Today's video is a comparison between the PS1 version of Spider-Man and the DreamCast version of the game. The dreamcast and PC both share the same cutscenes so this video is mostly made up of all 3.

It was on pc, it was the second pc game I bought. nfs3 was the first, collecting all the comics and covers was the best and seeing venom and carnage and mistero very underrated game 100%
I always loved the small cameos from other characters from throughout the Marvel Universe in this game. I miss the days when they were more willing to have all their characters crossover together outside the comics without movie rights making everything so darn complicated.
It felt hella organic too such a shame we never got more games like this.
In terms of the games they've been always able, only the movie rights are split. However i see what you say, while they do make avengers type games, for the 'solo' games seems like they never put anyone else anymore

Disney owns the avengers characters, x-men (after fox series ended), and the now fantastic four as well. And, spoilers below for a certain marvel film that just came out:
At the end of Venom: Let There Be Carnage, at the mid-credits scene, Eddie and Venom are transported to the MCU universe after a quick flash (presumably Doctor Strange's spell in No Way Home) so yeah Disney pretty much has 99% of Marvel Rights. Venom's transfer into the MCU also confirms that Morbius will be set in the MCU presumably as well.
What did things complicated was the Marvel's bankrupt
It's 2021 and I'm just now learning this game was also on the Dreamcast and had way better graphics than the PS1's version

I like this game because it doesn’t try to give you an origin story for every character in the game, it assumes that you’ve read the comics, you know who these characters are, and you know why they’re here. It allows the game to spend more time telling its story rather than having to recreate other stories.

That's the main issue with all the new marvel movies. They're usually just an origin story.
another thing i love the most out this game compared to so many spiderman games is they went fucking WILD with some of the ideas. still havent seen a moment more badass than monster ock
(ill put this here pre-emptively: no i havent played web of shadows, i heard that it was meh back in the day plus i didnt have cash back then so i never got around to it)
@@superiordeftrex4196 The difference is in the MCU they're setting up characters in ways that might be different than the comics. So it can be important for world building.
It also lends itself to be a good introduction to people who genuinely DIDNT know who these characters are beforehand
Someone already mentioned it but starting off stories with origins isn’t alway bad (and for stories like the mcu’s, it can be mandatory)
But starting a story at the very beginning can create a skewed idea of who thwse characters are because the characters don’t know who they are yet either.
What better way to introduce Venom than to show what its like in an average day in his life? All the things thst the story doesn’t tell you helps leave room for curiosity, interpretation and a need to seek out more from them.
Kinda like what its like meeting people in real life.
I can't help but smile and/or laugh every time Venom is on screen. This version of him is ingrained into my childhood 😭

I always appreciated the fact that this game already follows it's own timeline instead of copying and pasting the base timeline.
MJ and Peter being married, Venom knowing Spider-Man is Peter, Spider-Man already being around for years (decades even according to Mysrerio)

Based on the logo of the game... I think these 2 games were set in the same universe as the 90's animated series.
I assume sometime before the Spider-Verse saga of that series, or way after the last episode, after he's rescued (and married) MJ off-screen and everything's been settled for a while. A few months or years of Spidey taking down common crooks up until the events of the game.

As goofy as he is I can't help but love Venom in this game. Dunno whether it's the voice acting or the fact they actually make him a proper hero (after the misunderstanding gets cleared up), but I can't help but wish he got more spotlight opportunities like this
In the ultimate spiderman game you play as venom for half the game
For me, this will always be my favorite Venom, cause he's the *only one* that can troll Spider-Man like that, since he's immune to his spider-sense. The agile hero that always mocks his enemies while fighting them, getting a taste of his own medicine, while channeling "David vs Goliath" themes.
"Huge braindead evil monster" Venom can be replaced by a thousand other villains, but goofy Venom is truly unique, and I think the last 2 movies have done a great job at replicating that silly aspect of the big guy.
Also what helps is that Venom is rather comic accurate for the time, they're a lovable goofy character

I had this game when I was like 8 years old and I stopped playing when I saw him
Finished the game when I was older though. Carnage has the creepiest laugh in this game I've ever heard. Too bad it won't reflect in the movie....
Dreamcast looked better although i had the ps1 version still a classic
I beat the ps1 version but I also played the n64 port as well
I had the PS2 version, and the graphics looked like the Dreamcast version.
They need to add this into PS Now or remaster it

Man, I feel shafted missing out on the Dreamcast/PC version. I only experienced PS1. Also Venom and Cosmo from Fairly Odd Parents having the Same VA is hilarious to think about.
I know. They're voiced by Daran Norris, and so are Mercurymon and Sakkakumon from Digimon Frontier.
The Watchers, they Sing! Lalalalala. He also voices the thing that possesses Manah in Drakengard.

Never knew why I loved this game as a kid. But looking at these cutscenes, the angles they use, the voice actors, even though I didnt understand much back then and the sick music all make a pretty good experience. Good times

I freaking love Carnage's voice in this game!!! Especially when he's fighting Venom before jumping away. His grunts and screeches is so damn eerie, but perfect!
that psycho voice that Carnage has in this game was my childhood and I expected to hear a similar voice in the movie Venom Let There Be Carnage

Carnage looks genuinely terrifying and Monster Ock some how looks more terrifying.

Kind of interesting how most people refer to this game as Spider-Man PS1, but the DreamCast looks way better. Genuinely surprised me to see that the graphics look a little better
Well the Ps1 was more successful and popular than the Dreamcast so maybe more people played it on Ps1 and associate it with that console?
It was also on Nintendo 64 with graphics trailing a little behind the ps1 version.

@@zeroattentiongaming820 It’s because Neversoft developed the game on PS1 exclusively for the summer release in 2000, while the Dreamcast and PC version was ported over by Treyarch. As for the graphics in cutscenes, the PS1 original has more detail in animation and effects, while the Dreamcast/PC had to rework the new models in, causing some of the extra details in the cutscenes from the PS1 to be missing (Eddie’s Transformation in the intro) or frame rate issues.
Wow, up until this point, I was never familiar with the Dreamcast version.
It’s good to know that they were able to make that bastard Symbiote Octavius model look even more terrifying than the PS1 version.

The cutscenes are more coherent to Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro and also in the cutscene where Spider-Man runs towards ock and carnage you can see the Spider-Man 2 model for a brief moment
It’s crazy how different the game looks on PC and Dreamcast, especially the Venom model not looking as creepy. Even tho I always have had the PS1 and n64 copy
What do you mean? The PC and Dreamcast are the same version. PC just has higher resolution options.

I got this game when I got my Dreamcast like 2 years ago, it's definitely rough nowadays and kinda jank at times, bit it's still amazing how much it's like an actual Spider-Man comic or an episode of the 90's cartoon. Wish it would get a remake or spiritual successor

Yeah I like that one better most people don't but idk I find its just really clean but I do like how Spider-Man has no lines in the PS1 version lol it just fits with the classic 2000s theme.
@@MissedThePart People don't like the DC/PC version because Treyarch (DC) & LTI Gray Matter (PC) used the beta animations which shows slight sync issues with the cutscenes. Oh, and PC is practically glitchy if you have a computer over 30fps

Even though the Dreamcast and PC versions are better, I'm still bias towards PS1 since I grew up on it
Carnage Looks So Horrific in Both Versions.
Its really interesting how this game had it's cutscenes reanimated to fit the higher quality character models used for gameplay and in-game cinematics. Its a nice attention to detail you didn't see a lot with games from that era
Anyone notice when Black Cat is taken captive the Dreamcast version fails to black out Ock and Carnage in the ambulance. You can clearly tell it's Octavius driving making the "Twist" of his involvement visually obvious.

I almost took a dump when Mysterio turned giant when I was a little kid.
I prefer dreamcast version by gameplay and graphics, but they used beta cutscenes and just switched models in them without any smoothing, also they didn't switch them in every scene which is annoying, also, audio was slightly out of sync in cutscenes too, even more annoying.
Exactly, they used the same texture for Monster Ock for the PC and Dreamcast.

@@kikiphallin They did. Look at the PS1 Models of Venom and Carnage compared to Dreamcast/PC.
The latter is more Detailed and Menacing. The PS1 Models almost look cutesy.
Notice the Monster Ock face textures, it's very similar to PS1 Venom and Carnage.
So I guess it's safe to assume they either didn't bother updating it, or they just had one design that was originally in the theme of the PS1 Models.
Spiderman Web Of Shadows always felt to me like the continuation to these games.
I mean, they all technically take place in a universe within a universe with the events of the comics. So maybe...
I like how in the first cutscene Doc Ock's projection on the screen moves before Doc Ock himself does when it should be the other way around lol.
I played both versions back in 2000 and 2001 respectively. I would eventually buy the Dreamcast version years later. Looking back at the cutscenes, I never knew they added some details in the Dreamcast version until I watched this video a few days ago.

I grew up with the N64 version... it's almost comical how instead of animated scenes we got "pictures" and they didn't even bother to paint/draw them to look any better, they were just screen shoots from the ps1 version, and no dialogue except for maybe a couple screams or mumbling
Its cause the n64 cartridges couldnt hold that much info than the regular disks of the ps1 or other consoles. something nintendo still

I remember that at the beggining of Enter Electro there was a recap of the first game , and the cutscenes looked different from the ones from the previus game , always wondered why . Now I know why . And I find funny that at some moments they give fingers to Spider Man , but in others he only has his closed hands , like on the PS1 version
This version of carnage is what i think of every time i think of him. The laugh, the way he moves. That fight near the end of the game is what sticks in my head and i just cant except a carnage that doesnt laugh like that and have that tone of voice
I remember playing this in my ps1 and then the "sequel" to it in the same platform and always wondered why the cutscenes of the "previous game" looked more detailed than what I remembered. It's clear to me now that they reused the same cutscenes from the dreamcast/pc version hah who woulda thought

I loved Black Cat's version on Dreamcast cause of the eye mask details and how Spidey actually has lines on his costume but I like Doc Ock's look better on PS1.

Yup, which is totally understandable. It still looked pretty cool and overall Edge Of Reality did a solid job porting it to the N64.

I grew up with the PS1 version. Surprised to see the differences! Not all of these are simply higher resolution textures and separated fingers, there's totally different models as well. Peter looks completely different. Not to mention some stylistic choices like the color of the street fog and Venom's darker shade.

I loved this game as a little kid it just always felt like there were so many intimidating levels as a child and even kind of scary, level 1 wasnt big but i had a blast swinging around pretending and it was a lot better vibe

I love how this game isn’t just another one of those instances where every other marvel character has seemingly just vanished when the city is in trouble (insomniac). Instead, they include a small cast of characters that would most likely appear, like Daredevil and The Punisher, it just makes so much sense for them to show up. I wish the insomniac games would follow in this games footsteps because I know they can.
