you cracked me up about the placard on the auto pilot. I am a A&P (mech. want to be pilot ) in the states and had the pleasure of working on a Fairchild PC-6. I absolutely love this aircraft.
I'm flying this aircraft in MSFS now. I learned a few things from your video, such as not forgetting to put the cutoff/mixture control into high idle before takeoff. Actually I've only started on the runway so the simulator already had the aircraft running but not in high idle. It took a while to realize that BETA comes on automatically at idle throttle and below 100 knots. Some advised almost never touching the prop control as it will seek about 2,000 rpm on it's own but I suspect you want it feathered during start for less drag on the engine. I liked your use of the prop lever during taxi as I find the brakes on the weak side -- not sure if this is actually the result of a significant amount of thrust even at idle on the power lever. I tried some 3-point takeoffs I'd seen in videos, where all 3 tires leave the runway at the same time. This "may" reduce the tendency to yaw radically when the tail lifts but in my case the wheels starting squeaking as they tried to leave the ground and it would lift off too close to stall speed. I've retweaked my joystick rudder sensitivity and it seems a bit easier to keep on track now with normal takeoffs.
Yeah the POH talks about leaving the prop at 2000rpm and almost all PT6 engines require you to feather the prop at shut down 1 because it would take a long time to spool down and the other is to prevent it from windmilling in brisk winds.
Fun aircraft. The reason you were having a problem with the generator was because you were operating it while the propeller was feathered. The manual makes a point of saying, “Do not operate the generator while the prop is feathered, and do not feather the prop while the generator is on.”
The manual does however that is because of how the simulator runs ancillaries off of the prop rpm and not the turbine rpm . The PT6A-34 has the generator on the turbine side.
@@wollyxl we also switch it off IRL during feathered ops, to allow better cooling as it put torque on N1 and so decrease it by small ammount. Having prop spinning normally eases it
What are the required electrical devices that must be turned on before the engine is started And the generator activated ...If you are starting the aircraft with it's own batteries this becomes a concern.
If you watch the video you will hear me Explain why both avionics is turned on. Also generators don't function without the engine running the generator is part of the ancillary gearbox on the engine
@@wollyxl I now realize that in this model the engine instruments critical to startup are not visible without powering the glass screens. I definitely know how generators work which is why I thought some things should not be turned on until after engine start and generator operating. Perhaps today many lights don't draw as much current as in the past so not a huge factor in taking battery current away from the starter motor etc. ( and rotating beacon is now either required or strongly suggested before the prop moves )
Just curious on a few things. I thought you couldn't use the WT NXi in this Porter. And you had mixture at cutoff until you were lined up on the runway - is that right? Not even in low idle.
@@wollyxl hello. Great immersive video ! Would you share your trackir settings so I can get trackir better working for my 81 year old father ? :) your smooth movements are great.

I'm a simple man. If you yell clear prop into your wall for immersion's sake, I subscribe instantly.
this aircraft is really amazing, the sounds and the way it behaves is amazing! Really nice video!

Nicely done Sir, came down like a falling cannon ball, and landed without any fuss. 10 outa 10.

Super video. You fly the Zebra Porter F-GLEU!
WOW Excellent mastery very interesting thank you
Interested for the ATR 72 600

That's awesome. A baby C17 :)
Oh it's a tank for the sky love the thing.
any checklists for this anywhere ?
how do you place the prop in beta during flight ?
Basicly close the throttle all the way and hold it untill 90kts the low speed will allow the prop to go to beta by itself.
You didn't need to keep your airspeed in the white arc if the flaps were up.
Correct however I was going for best rate of climb witch is 77kts
Good one Wolly 👍
You are making me want to buy this airplane. Don't like the stock G1000, so good to see the NXI sort of works.
Buy it if you want it's very well modeled also there is a steam gauge verssion comming witch if yoh buy now costs yoj no more.
@@wollyxl I hate the tail wheel physics in the sim too. We will see. Looks good
@@CCitis plenty of rudder trim and there is a tail wheel lock plus at 65knts shes flying so no worries with that.
EU: Beeeta!
USA: Bay-ta
nice aircraft!

If it was low idle cut off and the engine would shut down, nothing to say you cant use the nxi but its not currantly supported by the model.
Which VR goggles did U use? Thanks
Awesome plane. Thanks for the video. Alas not going to buy it untill they remove that DRM junk (which may be never i know)
Still worth buying anyway as a steam gauge IP is coming but ince it des yhe price will go up.
Very nice ! Are you using a mod for the camera ?
I using trackir www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/ you can get them cheaper on eby direct from the manufacturer

You need to use some rudder in your turns man....
Unless am in IMC conditions am not to concerned by coordinated turns
Nice vid! Are you using Track-ir?
Thanks yes using track ir with the head clip
