This is awesome. I did something similar to get my parrotlets used to bed time. I stuck to a strict schedule, so everyday at the same time, I called them over to the cage with treats and closed it behind them. Set a timer on the lights to have them dim slowly (Philips hue lights) and allow them to settle in. Then covered them with the blanket once the light turned off. After a while, it became a habit and they would tell me when they wanted to go to sleep. And if I have to go out, they put themselves to sleep with the help of automatic lights and automatic window shutters. I come home and only have to close the cage, cause they're already sleeping and snuggling on their perch. When I introduced my new girl it was easier and only took about a week, bc she just followed my other parrotlets schedule and behavior.

I always put a short perch on the inside of the door. That is where they have to go to come out of the cage, where they go to get their nutriberry every day, and at night, an hour before bedtime, they get millet. By the time I’ve cut my piece, they are on the perch on their door. I target trained them using that perch and it’s a favoured spot. If they are all out, all I have to do is say “Perch” and they all fly to their perch or the top of the door. If they are on the top of the door, I go “well?” And they climb down. I gives quick scritch and close the door. I also don’t open the door until they are on the perch. I never have a problem getting all 8 of my parrots into their cages.

I use similar with the perch on the door to get my abused rescues kinda out of their cage lol. Perch that's normally inside their cage, moving out of their cage, but still near it, tends to give them the security they need to be willing to kinda come out. Bath time we do with a bird bath set up under that perch, with the door open at a 90 degree angle to give them a sense that they're still within the safety of their cage while having a bath in a big birdbath (although boy jumps from bath to the perch inside the cage, shakes the water off, then jumps back out to the birdbath, splashes, jumps back to the perch inside the cage, shakes & so on until the entire cage is completely & utterly drenched lol My bathroom floor is also fully drenched by the splashing in the bath, I hide behind the bathroom door to try to stay dry, then just use a couple of towels to dry the floor after & do a full cage clean to dry. Girl comes out to her door perch & gracefully climbs down into the water from there for a nice, subdued bath, then climbs back up to that perch, then back inside the cage once she's done.
Mine are the opposite to yours though, if I want them to do something, they tend to do the opposite & just look at me & kinda laugh. My boy loves to drop his food dish out of his cage, onto my floor & seriously sounds like he is laughing as he vocalises after doing so. My girl, if I did the "well?" to her, would respond by intentionally pooing on me, just for fun. That's her favourite little party trick! and I know it's on purpose, cause she often doesn't even have any poo when she tries to do it, so she does her little bum wobble as she tries to poo on me, then gives me a kinda look of "well dam, that didn't work"

@@mehere8038 I put a chair near the cage and did my clicker training on those perches. If they tried to climb out, I would just close the door for a second and start again. It built the value of that perch. If they feel they deserve to come out, they go to that perch. If the want their nutriberry, they go to that perch. My Quaker Wally didn’t like the movement of the door so he negotiated a different perch. But he still goes to that perch until he’s sure I saw him and then jumps to the internal perch where I hand him the treat. I have great birds. Not destructive because I make lots of toys for them to tear apart. Try hey have access to the whole house but most of them stay in their room. But they do come out and perch on the tree and sometimes my shoulder. They will also play on the the play stand at the other end of the room. If I’m in the kitchen, one of my moustaches likes to fly in behind me and make me look for him. And my conures usually fly to my shoulder if I’m heading into my craft room to use my cricut. They love trying to get at the boxes I make as I partially assemble them.

I love how you explain everything when working with that little cutiepie Quaker. I never saw you before. I just love that cage and how you have it furnished with the toys & rope.It looks like this cage would be adequate for my Timneh. He has a big dome cage and wearing out with tiny hidden rust spots.I do not want anymore dome cages and I think the white vinegar was instrumental in putting some rust on his cage. Thank you for sharing.

Nicely done, basically if not identically, this is how I trained my bird, works perfect!!!❤ it only took my guy about 2 hours, with breaks inbetween, and I point and give him a verbal que, my que is the word "inside", I also used target training❤😂❤
