As someone who’s into more advanced animal care I love your videos on behavioral solutions and training. A lot of the parrot channels on youtube repeat info that I’ve already heard, but your content actually makes me think which is really refreshing lol

    Another great video, thanks :)
Why does it have so few views? I would have thought the topic would have had much more interest.
My birds really love being rewarded with "good girl", so that's my go to if I don't have a food treat nearby & for super great whatever, I'll give a tonne of "GOOD GIRL", followed by a break while I go & get a high value reward & bring it back & give & I THINK they follow, but not sure, but what I really noticed watching this is for harder stuff where I really need to give additional value treat beyond talking, I don't have mine trained to do whatever it is unless the treat is RIGHT THERE, in view & accessible at the same time as doing the behaviour, so step up to reach the treat & immediately eat it while on my hand, so I need to work on a delay in that I think, so very helpful.
btw, how do you get Newt to just sit there while training with Toto? That is something I certainly can't do! my training is chaos because of both birds wanting to do it together normally. My girl's just laid her second egg for the season last night, so I'm planning on taking advantage of the next month to REALLY work with my boy while she sits on her eggs (which are not fertile, cause boy won't mate with her). I'm making progress on step ups, I think at least part of my problem has been him blindly stepping backwards to end the step up, so if I move my hand, that's a problem, so I've got a cross shaped perch set up & am really working on teaching him "step down" in a forward direction with my hand staying still between the right angle 2 perches & I'm starting slight movements with my hand occasionally & he's still being willing to train, so so far so good, I just have to remember to take it super, super slowly. I might try to add some delays in there but I'm currently also adding the stuff from the "proofing" video, with longer times on my hand & different rooms, so that's probably enough variation for now I think, will see how we go over the next couple of weeks
