My lever doesn’t do this. It goes down but it doesn’t open up.

It is caked with old flint and you will need to add enough force and lubricant to get it to open so you can clean out the old flint. Old flint can turn into rock if the lighter gpt wet. The flint absorbs the water and then expands. Then it locks in like glue or mud. You can submerge the lighter in hot water to help breakdown the old flint and get it open. Then clean it out and lube it so it works again.

I am not sure but the original Dupont flints can be purchased on Ebay for not too much money or you can try a local DuPont dealer
