Runrig - Going Home

- (The Highland Connection - 1979) live at Stirling Castle - (Donnie Munro's Farewell) 1997. My very first VHS rip, excuse the video quality (I tried to keep the highest possible sound quality though)
------------
In the distance day was dawning
Comes to me the early morning
Something tells me that I'm going home
The brand new sun was shining bright
From the darkness fields of light
Something tells me that I'm going home
Going home
When the summers coming in
And the moonlight on the river
Shows me where I've been
Soft the rain is gently falling
Light across the city morning
I get the feeling that I'm going home
Across the moorland, past the mountains
O'er the rivers beside the new stream
Something tells me that I'm going home
(Chorus)
(Chorus)
As the trains rolling nearer
Ah, the feeling just to be there,
Something tells me that I'm going home
Now the skylines reach my eyes
The ridge stands out in highland skies
I just can't believe I'm going home

I´m not scotish but this song is a hymn for me. In 2005 I visited Scotland and just love that beautiful country. I´m absolutly sure that somewhere in another life I´ll be scotish and I´ll live there. I will go home then. Until then ..Love to all scotish people. From Portugal.
I cry at this all the time and I am 67 years old

Scottish!
I'm Italian, I've been some times in Scotland and seen Runrig (LochNess2007, Scone,Barrowlands and more). I understand why you Scottish people are so proud of your nation ! It's simply wonderful !
Hope you're still listening. Love from Scotland.

Hi, I used this song for my beloved brother.....He loved the mountains, he loved runrig and he loved scotland and i cry buckets each time I listen to it...RIP Eddie Milne...Love u so much, your sister Marie x x x
Hi Marie. What you've said I understand totally, with my big brother, John. The very same. Nothing will ever compare to this eternally spiritual song for both our familys. Eternal peace for our brothers and families.
This song makes me so emotional so proud to be Scottish an absolute magnificent peice of music 🍻👌
Scottish! Howard goin Hamish ?

DONNIE'S VOICE IS AUDIBLE HEAVEN
Want this played at my funeral when the time comes.
How can people not like this song. Sends shivers down my spine every time I hear it. Brings tears to my eyes ALSO
IF EVER A BAND FEEDS STRAIGHT TO THE BLOOD IN MY VEINS ! IT IS RUN RIG !!
robert mobsby Me too!!!
+robert mobsby ME tooooo. Loved them when Donnie was in charge!!! Happy Memories at Loch Lomond !!! So many years ago
Donnie made Runrig what it is - Runrig will never be the same. A lovely man with a lovely family. Genuinely a super guy with a talent second to none. Skye knows Donnie is fab!!!!
Ever since the first time Runrig graced my ears, i was in love with their music. They are truely talented, and have so much heart and soul in their music. They are the greatest band ever to stand upon a stage, in my humble oppinion. May they forever be blessed.
you" ro so right greetings from tartan army supporter hanne from the german capital BERLIN alba gu brath and RUNRIG forever
Jesper Lassesen couldn't agree more ...I first heard them on an advert and tried to find out who's tune it was ...smitten since 😀
There's no question that your request they forever be blessed was granted from on high.
I absolutely love this song. Was at this concert at Stirling and l remember so well, Donnie singing it. I felt so sad as he left Runrig after this. Runrig were never the same for me after that. Donnie's voice made Runrig what they were. Wonderful. Even hearing Donnie in concert in his own band, it sounds like Runrig. Thanks Donnie for many years of beautiful singing.
Bruce saved the band - and brought a whole new dimension. Both lead singers deserve their place in the bands history. Both were iconic in bringing the "word" to millions. 💔
@@number9loyaltv
Yes, he helped the band carry on but the band never sounded half as good, regrettably.
@@eileenmoore1269I whole-heartedly disagree. Bruce was as wonderful as Donnie. If anything, they got better with age.
This video is brilliant. Donnie is the only one who can sing this song. No one does it better than him. His voice is so special and it goes straight into your system. Especially when you hear him sing the ballads they made.
A wonderful and moving song which gets better with the years (or is it with age!!!). I was at the last night of these concerts in my hometown of Stirling - a brilliant night and great send off for Donnie.
Heart of Scotland Ancestry I was there too. I worked the first night, and was there with my wife for the last. Great nights.
I was born in Kingussie 1947; have lived on Tyneside since 1967; I saw Runrig play at the Newcastle City Hall gig - I just love 'em boys !!
When I die, I am "Going Home" [back to Kingussie] and this 'will' be played ...I guarantee it !!
Alba gu Brath !!
I am a Lowland Scot and have travelled and worked many places overseas,But God gave me the chance to work on the A9 at Kincraig and live in Kingussie, great folk here
Richard Fraser can’t fault ur decision
Are you still with us Richard? Let’s hope so sir. ✌🏻🏴
Always brings tears to my eyes . I was at the second last concert Donnie did . Brill song . Hope the reunite for another concert, but it'll have to be somewhere that holds a lot of folk as it will sell out
Still has the power to reduce me to tears even after so many years. I always used to listen to this on the train when returning home to Scotland.
dieser Titel treibt mir immer wieder die Tränen in die Augen! Traumhaft - einfach unglaublich.
I actually Cry every time, home or away, leaving home and coming back from overseas work! happy Cry and Sad Cry's. :) :(
I remember going from Glasgow to Oban on the train and listening to this on repeat. Wonderful, Ive got tears in my eyes.
I know what you mean. Evokes many memories
🤗
Runrig...one of the greatest bands ever to grace a stage. Songs that will live forever,
Pure class, what a voice, what a song. So emotional.
First time I ever heard Runrig my heart was in love went to see them in Bradford , York Sheffield so brilliant they melted my heart my son saw them at loch Lomond when he was 14 yrs old best group ever xx miss them please come back xxx
a great reminder of my Runrig days, cried my eyes out when Donnie sang this, broke my heart when he left,i will not go see Runrig now, been to see Donnie in concert a few times now.xx
Runrig....A band that made the most atmospheric music, wonderful heartfelt lyrics and delivered with sublime artistry. Runrig has delivered.
Superb - great slide guitar. I'm Cornish not Scots but the yearning for home is still there! Thanks Runrig for 40+ beautiful years.
My mum wants this played at her funeral. Good choice an amazing song
This song of Runrig with Donnie always reduces me to tears!!!! I don't know why but there is something very special going on.
That song was on my ears when my son and I with the help of many Runrig fans and friends made it back home to Germany after a hell of a life in Peru. Still makes me cry. And many Riggies are still friends for life :-)
Loved Runrig but gave up when Donnie left. The other band members were great but that Canadian singer did not live up to Donnie.
This makes me cry every time I hear it! I want to go home to Scotland. What a beautiful, heartfelt song. Thanks for sharing.
Runrig were by far the best Scottish band in history. We need a reunite! What a concert that would be!!
I first seen RunRig in Lochaber 29yrs ago for £6.00 Would love to have one last Mega Memory !!
Their rendition of Loch Lomond was brilliant. Saw them several times. Im now in America, but wish they would organise a tour over here...complete with Donnie, although his replacement had a great voice, too!
Joel Murdoch If anyone from Runrig reads this, I know just the highland venue ( and the land owner :-) where you could hold a mega concert!!!
Thanks Joel...I'll do that right now! :-)
Ein wunderschöner Song mit viel Gefühl. 5*****
what a damn god number ... Just love Runrig
I get goosebumps. Such a beautifull song.
I was there, Going home had the audience and the band in tears. Absolute magic
One of the best live performances ever
Cant fake the chills going down my spine every time I hear this song. Amazing!
A real heart tugging song even though the furthest I have been to Scotland is Loch Lomond, but this band is exceptionally emotionally talented !!! I hope Donny Munro has a good future !
When we sold our house in London and I knew we were coming home to Scotland at last I played this endlessly; beautiful song, beautiful voice.
Beautiful song:) a friend told me to listen to it and i am so glad he did because this song made me think of being in Highlands of Scotland where my heart and soul shall forever belong where it is truly my "HOME"..Thank you for sharing ..Scotland i love you forever and always in my heart and soul xxx
One of my favourite Runrig songs, and I remember being there at the final one of the farewell concerts, just praying the rain would hold off :)
used to play this all the time when i was coming home on leave so many times i put a smile on my face
davie mcpa Me too.
I moved up to Scotland from England in 1980. I knew I was "coming home". That evening on the local TV I saw Runrig for the first time and they blew me away. They sang in Ghallic and I didn't understand the words but the energy gave me shivers and this is home now.
My days will end here and I will be at peace.
Perfect voice.
Come back Runrig with Donnie singing. Scotland needs you all right now!!! So much talent and gave so such pleasure to us all. X
superb song one of donnie at his best I remember listening to this with tears pouring down my face.
RUNRIG best of scotland i"m reaaly proud to be part of the tartan army greetings from the german capital BERLIN from Hanne Hertha BSC and of course tartan army support we stay with ye every time alba gu brath

Love this song it is brilliant what else can one say.
I am far from being from Scotland but this song takes me to people and places which are only memories. Beautiful, loving memories of so many ... my parents, Nanny, aunts and uncles, cousins, friends ... houses that no longer stand, others full of laughter and tears of the past. Going home ❤
Great Band, another great song from them.
What a band, what a song. Fabulous.
This makes me cry every time I hear this, I wish so much I went to this concert, but was working abroad! - Still like Donnie singing with Runrig! :(
Just listening to Runrig makes me cry and miss this wonderful land. Never felt more home then in the Highlands...Even I moved from Germany to Finland I will never forget how happy I was in Scotland!
played this at my young brothers funeral, he loved this band.
I recall listening to this when working in Somalia in 1995 - never been one for homesickness, but it proved prophetic, within a month I was back in Scotland.
Runrig, one of the best bands ever! Saw them live in Lerwick in the 90s - so glad I did see them before Donnie left but they are still incredible, original, without him.
lovely song . I remember when I worked in Kyleakin (Skye) Most of the people there remembered Runrig. They also remembered the fact that once they had found fame, they also forgot their roots.(Runrig now v Runrig then)
it was all Gaelic. I loved it!
I Love this song. Brings back so many memories
Auch habe da Erinnerungen!
A marvelous outpouring of Scottish love, very beautiful and heart- centred moving song.
Denke es ist normal das bei diesem Lied die Augen anfangen zu schwitzen.
Nicht dass einzige Lied von Runrig.
Es sind einfach Emotionen und dazu braucht es keine Worte
Ifirst seen the band at Motherwell Concert Hall in the 80;s and this song stuck in my heart and always will , as will all their songs , all with Donnie Monroe
Simply beautiful! Your and your daughter will be together eternally, over that rainbow. Until that day, Runrig's music brings everything together in one place, whichever side of the rainbow! Travel well..... x
so heartening to see my countrymen / women can put a band like this on a pedestal. ------ scots ! you are no ordinary people. ----- thank god. from new zealand.
My Mum told me I was in charge of making sure this gets played at her funeral.
Every time I hear this now, it makes me cry because I think about that day. =(
My mother was a Runrig fan. I had t heard this until after her death. I played it at her funeral. 2019. I struggle to listen to it now as I tortured myself with it on repeat. 😊✌🏻
this is amazing song it reminds when I went back home to Glasgow where I was born
A beautiful song for those simple feelings of that longing for home...we all know them!!
The best band I ever has seen , love you..... I am ready for Aalborg in 2017.......
I totally agree with you... Donnie gave it the celtic sound..wish he would come back or do a solo album....
Ooh, I've got chills. First time hearing this and I'm in love with it
Today is the eve of my husband's passing, 5 years ago... left him more or less at this time the evening before, the doctors said: go home and rest, your husband also needs to rest... I believe he was getting prepared to go home. Got the phone call at 4:30am on Oct 13th... took him home on Nov 1st and scattered his ashes somewhere in Peebles, where "we used to go fishing and climbing the hills when we were kids, were so happy there"... we all miss you, darling.
Very sad Zaira, I am a Peebles boy who emigrated to OZ in 1970. Our son died aged 19 in 2000, brought his ashes back to Inverness & scattered near the river to this tune. Feel your pain. (Ken).
@@KenBuzza747 so sorry for your loss... nobody should go so young... but as a Peebles boy maybe you'd like to see the video I made one year later in my husband's memory. Some of the photos are of Peebles. All the very best... xxx ruclips.net/video/g5GLZIvU4V0/видео.html
would love to re live that day again :) loved every minute of it
This takes me back to when it was just me and Emma stuck in the barrack block after all the others had left, blasting Runrig, waiting for our turn to go home.............now I listen to it everytime I cross the Mighty Atlantic and can't wait to again touchdown in my beautiful Scotland.
i love and hate this song at the same time i love it because the vocals are so beautiful but hate it because this was the song that was played at my dads funeral runrig has never been the same without donnie he has such an amazing voice :)
My great great and great grandparents came to Australia in the second half of the 19th C. My ancestry is 75% Irish [Sligo and Kerry] but, for whatever reason, the 25% of my genes that hail from Ross-shire have the greatest tug on my heart and my sense of who I am and where 'home' is. Donnie and Runrig really 'speak' to me and, no, I can't explain it any more lucidly than that. It just 'is'.
This always makes me Cry, Sitting here in Spain and thinking of my home of Scotland. I know its just aflight away but always so short a time I have to spend due to family commitments I hav eto come back here. But soon I will go back to stay !
Ahh yes, Thank you RUclips. It dosent get better than this... Donny please come home for a one off with the boys. I would be there in a heartbeat...
I want & wish to live in Scotland!
