instead of using WD-40 on the bodywork bushings, maybe try silicone? It probably costs a bit more, but one bottle/can is gonna last a very long time. That way, there's no chance of degrading/damaging the rubber mounts.

  • @MikeSmith-vb8ul

For the front sprocket you keep the chain on and just put a metal bar through the wheel and rest it on the swingarm. Now work the breaker bar and the front sprocket is off. To tighten it you do the same thing but put the metal bar *below* the rear wheel.

Tech tip: Change the hub dampers/rubber buffers every time you change the sprockets to keep the wheel from wobbling. Since Gardendick changed his sprockets early for surface rust, he doesn't have to. But, these dampers wearout pretty quickly on powerful bikes.

8:25 I wish it were that simple... On my ER6 we were beginning to give up and getting ready to cut the rounded nut off when we hammered a 26 on it and it finally popped off with a 1.5 METER breaker bar and 2 adult male's weight on it... Surprisingly it came off in 1 piece and left the shaft intact but it was FUZED to the washer which was FUZED with the sprocket, like it was shiny metal clean... We needed chain on, wood log in between the wheel and swingarm AND have the bike in gear...

Curious as to what you use to clean your wheels. I've got a ton of chain lube built up on mine (22k miles), but luckily I have black wheels, so it's not that noticeable... until I work on it and touch a wheel.
I've used the Sonax wheel cleaner on my cars with great luck, but wasn't sure that it'd have the ability to really cut through the grease/wax that is Motul chain lube.

4:35 and if you don't want wd-40 all over your bike... windex works as temporary lube that evaporates and leaves nothing behind.
5:45 the X1R from JT at the 520 size is for up to 600cc. for street use up to 750, at the 520 size, you should use the X1R2. be careful ordering from amazon... if you order the X1R2, make sure that's what you actually get. the 2 is a subscript to X1R on the front of the box.
6:36 i've never ground my rivets down. maybe my tool is better than yours because it has done the job and hasn't broken yet.
8:33 wooden dowel between the chain and sprocket works absolutely fine.
you keep saying things like, "you'll never be able to do that", "it's not possible". well, we're not all pampered mechanics with all the fancy tools. as my granddad always said: there's more than one way to skin a cat.
((disclaimer: the part about tools is not actually true... i've always been willing to spend money on tools, but that doesn't make for an interesting story now does it?))
12:16 if you don't have a caliper, for fuck sake, go buy one. they're not expensive and they have SO freaking many uses. ((case in point, hehe))

You’ll get acceptable performance this way, but if you really want to get it to hum it’s much better to use German flow meters that slip onto the throttle body and measure the actual airflow. It’s what race teams use, and they’re not very expensive. I’ve used it on all my bikes for 20 years and it’s the best way to get super accurate synchronisation. www.amazon.co.uk/STE-Synchrometer-Weber-Dellorto-SYN001/dp/B00DHGX2D6
