  • In this video, I review my flight from Reykjavik to Chicago in Icelandair's 737 MAX 8 Saga Class cabin. I explore the flight experience and assess the seats, service, food, drinks, in-flight entertainment, and amenities. I also share my thoughts at the end of the video as to whether I think Saga Class is worth the extra money.

    A wonderful informative review covering everything one would need to know flying Saga class on IcelandAir. Loved being able to see everything through your camera, including the size of the seats, leg room and even the meal. It felt like I was right there with you on the flight.

      @@MelsMilesandPoints I am looking at booking a business class flight from Europe to Portland OR - icelandair is showing as the cheapest by a few hundred pounds. Its an 18 hour flight though (via Seattle) and even though there is a stopover in Reykjavik; I think for me, on a long flight, given the fact it is a few hundred £’s different - having seen the difference between what I saw in your video and the lie flat options available with other airlines, your review has made me rule out flying with them this time. I would have regretted my choice if I had booked with them; it looks like premium economy with a business lounge added to me! You did well to get your flight via the auction process - but as you say, that is NOT guaranteed! Thank you, I am now subscribed❤️

    • @MelsMilesandPoints
      @MelsMilesandPoints  5 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, for an 18-hour flight, I would want a lie-flat seat too. My flight was from Reykjavik to Chicago, and I don't sleep as much going that direction, so it was the perfect fit for me in that situation. But for a longer, overnight flight, a lie-flat seat is the way to go. Thanks for subscribing! ❤

    Thanks for the review. I think it would be helpful if you shared what you actually paid for your ticket and how much you bid for your upgrade, as well as a comparison to what it would have cost to book Saga class from the beginning.

    • @MelsMilesandPoints
      @MelsMilesandPoints  5 месяцев назад +1

      I don't have the exact numbers unfortunately (I didn't record what the original Saga Class price would have been - wish I had), but I remember it was much cheaper to do the bid. The only risk is that it's not guaranteed😅

    I am a retired Flight Attendant and here to tell you unfortunately today in 2023 , this is actually more and better then what you will get in the so called “First Class” in the US. Sadly the new generation running the airlines have no clue wha5 they are doing and running the companies 8k to the ground….

    • @MelsMilesandPoints
      @MelsMilesandPoints  4 месяца назад +1

      I generally prefer the international airlines for that very reason. Honestly, Icelandair was a nice surprise! 😄

    2:51 Love your videos. This one is really great too. I have been flying to Iceland from the USA since I was a little kid. My father is an Icelandic immigrant and we have a ton of family there. While I don’t speak fluent Icelandic, I can tell you that the brand you tried to pronounce is something like this “ha-ness doe-tidd” it actually is a woman’s last name. I know this because in Iceland, your last name is not a family name, but an indication of who your father is. So this woman is the daughter of Hannes. So her last name is “Hannesdottir”

      I’m so glad you enjoyed the video! And thanks so much for the information on that name. That’s really interesting! Iceland is so beautiful - you’re so lucky to have family there and be able to visit so often. You’ll have to watch that strange movie next time you go. I’d love to hear your thoughts on it!

      @@MelsMilesandPoints no problem. I miss Iceland so much, I’ve been dying to go live there for a year or something. It’s almost that time. I have dual citizenship which is something I was born with, but had no idea until I was in my late thirties, so I had to reclaim it which was a process, but now I have two passports which is cool. And arriving in Iceland is nice bc even though I travel out of the USA on my American passport, I can use a separate line by scanning my Icelandic passport and walking right in. It’s nice. That passport has some European perks If I ever want to stay for extended periods in the EU.
      I love watching Icelandic movies and shows. It actually always helps me learn more of the language with the English subtitles, I just wish there was a way to see more of them here in the US. There are minimal options on Netflix, even with a VPN.

      Yes it's definitely not lie flat seating 😂but honestly, I thought it was fine for a day flight from Iceland to the U.S. I don't think I'd love it as much if it was the other direction and I wanted a good night's sleep though 😅

      I didn’t put the upgrade amount because it varies for each flight so I wasn’t sure that the information would be helpful. Since you’re interested, though, I’m happy to tell you. For my upgrade, I paid $291. Icelandair gives you a range, and I bid just a few dollars over the starting bid. Hope this helps!
