I couldn't figure out how in the world to play this. Thank you for such a clear explanation. I saw a few students at school playing and discussing, so that is a good thing.
I had no clue at first. This video was key to understanding the craze over the game and how to play it. Thanks a lot for the time and effort and you are a great Wordle teacher.
two things you forgot to mention was that you can see what letters have not been used on the keyboard below. I find this helpful when try to decide which letters to try next. Also if you get a green on a letter, be a consonant or vowel, does not mean that there might not be another one of those letters in the word. For example ladle ... has 2 "l"s and if you got the l in the first box you might not consider there could be another one in box 4. That caught me out a few weeks ago on a double "e" word. Good tutorial. P.S. My start word is raise and so far got a 100% solve rate. Love it.
Hi Claudia! I’m a massive fan and I just wanted to share my starting words which are: 1. Adieu ( it has 4 vowels so it’s super helpful and quite a common consonant ) 2. irate / orate ( my personal fav is orate cos o is commoner than i and it has 3 vowels and 2 very common consonants ) 3. Opera ( it has the 3 most common vowels ) 4. Atone ( all of these letters are the top 6 most common letters - i not counted ) 5. Stoae ( 3 most common vowels and s and t are extremely common consonants I hope this helped you and have a great day!
@@yunjinsrosie My favorite starter guesses for 11 letter Wordle are... AUCTIONEERS and sometimes INTERPOLATE. (10 letter I use AUCTIONEER. Why mess with success? ;) )
I’ve decided to try this for the first time today, thank you for making this video so I can put my effort into attempting to solve it rather than a full learning curve.
I always start with a word that has 3 consonants and 2 vowels, focusing on the letters: R, S, T, L, N, C and E, A, I, O. I always used coloured letters on the next line (hard mode) and have had much better results this way than when I used to start with vowel-heavy words.
Another tip from a “pro” is start with AROSE or ARISE. I use one of them to start and I like knowing the status of common letters R and S right away too. Love this game!
@@jeweldenile8995 Me too! It has the same letters and A is not that common of a first letter. Also OPERA, ROUND and TOILE work well for me. Happy wordleling!
Yep. I agree with your strategy. I always start ADIEU and have played about 20 times, always solved, usually 3-4 tries. AUDIO would be a good starter too. I’ll try that one tomorrow!
Omg I tried Wordle out today for the first time and typed in “about” for the first word like you did and then guessed another word right after and it was the correct one 😂 beginners luck is wonderful
I watched several videos and no one was able to properly explain the game and how to play it in a clear manner and they left me more confused. But finallly, you managed to explain everything very well. Thank you!
Wordle looks like a game I used to play in the 70s called Mastermind which used colors instead of letters. There was a Super Mastermind model with 5 pegs in the row (the regular model had 4) and an extra color . We played with some pegs upside down, essentially doubling the number of colors, and also allowed doubles (2 or 3 of the same color) and blanks (essentially adding one more color). It was a challenge to get it in the 12 rows.
I just always start with 'ARIEL', 'YOUNG' and 'DEPTH' as my first 3 words. This move decides the fate of 14 letters.. you usually have a good idea by this point in the game and can start using your guesses to rearrange the letters you know will be in the word. If not, you can use 'MUCKS' to decide the fate of 4 more letters. There's a really high probability you have all the letters in the word right now and 2 more chances to spare, so you can guess the order of letters for the word
I started playing 2 days ago. I start with audio and entry. Focused on the vowels, but I can arrange the consonants pretty easily after that. This is great too. I tried it with today’s wordle and it worked great!
But if you do this you don’t get it in three! You can’t (effectively). No reason to limit yourself, look at the first results and see how it restricts the options, as it may, and work from there.
I start every game with “stare” “pious” and “lying”. These give you all the vowels including “Y” and high frequency consonants S,T,R,L, and N. Works most of the time.

This is good...thanks for this video and for sharing your strategy.
I always start with AIMED as it takes care of 3 vowels using hard mode. For the second guess, I try to use the 2-3 of the following consonants in a word: L, N, R, S, T. I'll add a O or U, if possible. I usually solve the puzzle in 3-4 guesses taking up five minutes or so..
Thank you for explaining WORDLE for me. I was about to play it, but wanted an explanation of the rules and how-to's. Now that I understand how to play, I realize what an utter waste of time it is. Thanks!!!
