Ancient King of Kyrat sent many many men to find out a place called Shangri La which was fabled to be paradise on earth and report back to him. One of those many warriors was Kalinag. When he reached Shangri La, he found out that a Rakshasa (Demon) has overrun this paradise. So he endeavoured to defeat the Rakshasa and free Shangri La, even though he could've simply left and reported the location to his king and his official job would be considered done. Along the way, he found the fallen bodies of many of the other men sent by the king who made the same choice as Kalinag. This was a mental deterrent, protecting Shangri La had become their death sentence and it could happen to Kalinag too. But he persevered, because he had steeled his resolve. After defeating Rakshasa, Kalinag didn't stay in Shangri La but returned to Kyrat. People asked him why. He said he did that because Shangri La taught him that heaven on earth is not a location but a frame of mind. When we stand and fight for a cause bigger than ourselves, that is when we create heaven on Earth. That is the long-short of the story of Shangri La.

Can you imagine running around the Outback in a Jeep, mowing down bandits and ostriches? Or, as you said, running around Shangri-La, rising up the denizens of the forests to stop the evil taking over the land?
Being a Hindi speaker (among other Indian languages) when the Shangri La sequences ended, it felt very weird for me to listen to Yogi and Reggie speak to Ajay in English. I was so lost in the experience and accustomed to Shangri-La that I forgot I was playing an English game with a minor Hindi set piece.
Far Cry 4 is one of the best FPS games I've ever played. Its one of my personal favorites especially because of the Legend of Kalinag. These Shangri-La missions really interested me. Great work putting all these missions together!!
Chinese Buddhism and Taoism draws heavily from these historical materials and imagery. The power of the Bell is done really well here really. The writers and art direction for this game is very impressive these people did their research.

Voice of the first bell was soooooo damn dramatic, made me cry a looot, that was like "a Father releasing His own son to become a Messenger, but Father know His son would be tortured a lot for nothing, the Father looked into his son eyes so deep, brave, and stare further.... but when the bell been released His heart was torn apart, fallen, and drowned in really deep sadness, remembering that His son which He was sent would sacrificed and tortured to pay for the fault His son was never done, when the bell was ring the Father cried and His son gone into ashes flew by the wind.... Thats what I see, so dramatic...
such a beuatiful mythological story shangri la and kaali naag had .. i was lost in these sections of the game .. wish we could replay these missions again after game over
the giant bird is very likely based on Garuda/Gorur from hindu/indian mythology .. Garuda was a massive bird like the Rukh bird from Sindbad's story in Arabian nights and the Rakshasas were man eater humanoid demons in indian subcontinental mythologies/fairy tales .. in my language Bangla we call them Rakkhosh .. our fairy tales or indian fairy tales in general are full of princes killing rakshasas etc

The Thangka was Torn up and scattered across Kyrat by Darpan who was ordered by Mohan Ghale to do so. I never collected all of Mohans journals until recently and that's when I found out.
i have collected almost every single one of them except for those last 2 thangkas you can't find those in Kyrat, they need to be searched for in those himalayas mission maybe idk

He actually killed Luma there. The whole kalinag and white tiger thing in that mission was because he was hallucinating. kalinag was long dead as he simply existed in a different timeline
Besides the Valley of the Yeti dlc this was my favorite part of the game. Pagin Min was great and so was Longinus. But all the other characters were sort of boring. The games story and world were leages ahead of 3. But compared to Primal, 5, and New Dawn it's not even close
absolutely .. as i live in Bangladesh i could understand most of the Hindi Kaalinaag was speaking .. it helped me more to get immersed in the world of shangri la but the Hindi he was speaking felt a bit different than the current urdu style hindi .. is this a old style traditional form of hindi ? it sounds a bit more like bengali with like some hard or difficult bengali words .. words like aadhik sadharon lakshya and many more

Drakan Vegias you could continue the story of shangrila in free roam mode, find the shangrila icon on the map, explore (mostly in secret location ex cave, river, etc) and search for the scrolls, then enter the world of shangrila to continue the story, if you haven't open it, buy the map
It's none of that. It's something that Sadhus in India and Nepal paint their bodies with. I don't know what it really is but it is some kind of chalk-like stuff that has a certain fragrance. It's holy and they make markings with it on their whole body

this is bullshit. in 2018 on a ps4 slim those missions are 4 times more difficult. the last one has at least 4 guys shooting at me at all times and my walking is about one third slower than usual.

One of the rare occasions where side missions are just as fun, if not more fun and immersive than the main story.
Same with the DLC for the most part. Valley of the Yetis was excellent, and I'm really a fan of the setting there.
