New World feels eerily similar to Wildstar's evolution. Wildstar also had a disastrous drop in player population after launch but eventually managed to stem the bleeding with a multitude of decent changes, and was a pretty decent game in the end. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to reverse the initial damage to the game's brand and they had to close shop 4 years after launch. I can't help but feel New World is going through the same cycle.
Except Wildstar offered players different races, starting areas, unique towns per race, and overall player variety. New World missed the memo on how to keep players engaged beyond their first few days/weeks. Alts are a fundamental requirement in MMORPGs, and you need to make players WANT to try different races/classes/templates/etc. that they didn't have on their previous character. That's what keeps them engaged for more than a month. If WoW had launched with 1 race, 1 faction, and the same starting zone/experience for every player, it wouldn't have turned into the MMORPG to dominate the genre for nearly 20 years. It would have just been another failed MMORPG.
@@SlickMajestic you are wow andy, looking at every mmorpg thru actiblizz eyes is why your comment is irrelevant. Who the fuck cares about races or what not? New World had completely different issues to fucking races and factions
You can sort by attribute. They're listed under the perks as the RNG item suffix (i.e., "of the Soldier"). Yes, it's needlessly obtuse, but the devs have implied that they're completely overhauling the trade post (front and back end), expect the process to take a while, and are slapping what bandaids they can on to it instead of making players wait for the new interface.
It's not sorting by attribute. You can't check "box" for strenght. You need to choose between full str, str/int, srt/dex, str/foc, int/str, ect... there are how much? 10 types of attributes roll with strenght?
@@fupidox5642 yes you can, as he mentioned they are in the same tab as atributes, they have different names like knight, warrior, cleric for example. Each has its own type of stats, either one or a mix of two with one higher than the other.
@@samwise_thebrave I know fanboys will defend this dissapointment of a game. But this is not sorting by attribute. You can't sort by strenght and expect to see gear with strenght. You need to sort by 10 different things with weird naming that most player doesn't bother to remember to find gear with strenght.
He asked for a filter, to sort. Not knowing the name of the different categories (Nomad, Soldier, blabla) and so forth. Game is still absolute crap and will never return
@Geeksalot "we need players like this to stay away anyways" You and the other 20k players can stay 🤣 Enjoy being in a dead community feeling you're apart of something worthless and irrelevant - Glorifying a total fuck up of a game which had potential with sheer delusion. Like he said he wont, I wont and nor will anyone with any brain mass that actually enjoys an active thriving community with meaning😂
Imagine if they’d *launched* the game at this state, people would have been willing to overlook it’s flaws and wait for more updates. It may just be too litlle too late now.
Lol no way. There’s still little competition. 3-5 updates of this caliber away from being top MMO. Also, if No Man’s Sky can come back, it’s never too late. For any game. It’s just where they go from there.
@@hunt6872 Exactly, people are so stuck up with sticks up their asses about how "bad" NW is and that it'll just die and never recover. I just enjoy the game for what it is, and honestly its a game, with no sub, so you can always go back to check it out and honestly it's been improved upon a hell of a lot compared to launch. Is it perfect? Hell no far from it, I'm not delusional but will it get better? Based on what's been patched added so far? Yup. I do believe so.
My thoughts exactly, after watching the video in it's entirety the game looks almost decent, but it wasn't ready at launch. Even now, I think it would be ready with maybe 10-20 more mob types at least, a vibrant world instead of an empty vastness of copy paste
@@dannykuang9433 yea, as if any sane person wants to come back to a game that's now mainly ran by "exploit-to-win" sweats. This is the thing people forget, people duped items and gold heavily and progressed ridiculously fast and since this also is a pvp game, dare I say more than it is a pve game, good luck coming back and competing against the old duped accounts.
@@hunt6872 don’t compare this to NMS when NMS had its company hanging on that singular game to succeed, NW on the other hand is owned by Amazon, if its not feasible they’ll most definitely cut support for it like its other published games. Hopefully it doesn’t happen ofc but this aint no NMS.
Great video, nice to see you jumping back on! As someone who plays this game alot I am really hoping they continue in the direction they are headed right now, its been getting steadily better particularly the last couple of updates and with May set to bring us the 3v3 arenas & a PvP reward track that progresses through all types of PvP content hopefully that spot you mention at the end of the video with 'what to do when I hit gear cap' is somewhat filled as that's where I am sat right now! There is a long way to go and certainly more in-game content needed but improvements are certainly much more noticeable!
"You can access every storage in the game from the same area, transfer goods back and forth between each storage and it costs nothing" Yeah, you know what would have also been good? One fucking generic storage which every MMO since the beginning managed to figure out.
THAT!!! Some changes he mentioned sounded really great and probably would have kept me longer ^^ maybe in 1 or 2 year i will try it again(When i can play a 2h Sword xD)
Such a love hate relationship with this game. I stopped playing just over 2 months ago due to not wanting to climb gear score bs. however after returning and finding pretty much anything i do in the game progress my GS, its actually really fun and chilled to play. I highly recommend players to return, however give it another month or so to see if the next pvp update with 3v3 arenas is like as more changes are yet to come
@@silverjohn2888 whilst yes it does, but not as efficiently as pve. OPR chests can have a chance to increase your gs if you loose or win. But considering a OPR game can take as long as a dungeon it isn't effective. I'm hoping this 3v4 and pvp track change this
For what it's worth, New World is seemingly fully-funded with their pre-launch budget, with no apparent shedding of staff to other games. I get the impression that they knew they needed another year of development to complete the switch to PvE, but also knew that they couldn't announce another one-year delay after teasing release so many times already. Brimstone Sands (originally intended to be included at release) will launch around the 1-year mark, and I expect that's when a determination on the future of NW will be made by AGS.
@@TheCaitron I'm not sure the game will ever be able to thrive. It suffers from some serious engine and 'spaghetti code' issues that frustrate continued development. Whenever a bug fix is listed in the patch notes, there's a 50% chance it's actually fixed, a 25% chance it isn't fixed at all, and a 25% chance it creates new bugs. With staff turnover and loss of institutional knowledge on the workarounds needed to make things functional, development is just going to get harder the longer the game survives.
@@squid1661 Lmao dude literally every game has some bugs introduced in huge updates. Every. Single. Game. Minecraft, fortnite, pubg... whatever. New world devs fix hundreds of bugs a month and then like 3 are introduced but instead of focusing on the bugs fixed you will focus on the few minor ones introduced (that get fixed within a week too)

Squids is absolutely on point, this game will never thrive due to the serious engine issues that it has had since day 1
I was really hyped for the game, but never got past level 40. The levelling was too boring for me to enjoy it and get to max level. I really enjoyed life skilling in the game and going out mining/harvesting etc. They should really have expanded more on that cuz the combat was really lackluster imo.
I played 60 hours of the game and got to lvl 40 or something. I was just extremely bored of running around the map all the time. It was a pure walking simulator.
Don't worry you don't miss that much. I still remember I was rushing to lvl 60 end up 1 to 2 weeks later I finally out from the game until now. Haven't login yet.
Still will always appreciate your channel and content. Unlike most people you really get stuck in to a game and earnestly play it before doing reviews. Also I like the new format, seems more concise and entertaining equally
That was my favorite part, I quit after I ground enough gold for a house to solve my storage issues, only to find that there was a "property tax" that was insane and that i couldn't farm enough gold to keep up with
It was ment to be a survival type game like rust but that was scrapped and this is what we got. So all of this ironing should help over thr next year I dropped thr game about 3 months in but it was hella fun up until thr market crash and no true end game. If i wanted to grind for gear I'd play wow lol
@@Arty-j4t YEAH AFTER THE GAME IS FUCKING DEAD. They had to wait for desperation to set in to take actions and reduce the grind. I quit because of this and many reasons. 120 Azoth every time to fast travel, had to run everywhere for stupid repetitive quests. Good on them to realize it and reduce azoth consumption, but too fking late. The game is down 900k players. Can't recover from that.
Ive leveled my second slot recently, different than my main, they made it a hell of a lot better, still dry and stal from level 40 and onward, prolly from 35 already, but my god, with this pace, the end of this year with a new zone it will be cool
Yeah, I can confirm this. I stopped playing at lvl 18, yesterday logged back on and the overall experience felt seriously a lot better. Gonna keep playing for a while now.
I'm assuming they haven't added arena yet? That's what I'm waiting for to make my return to the game, I'm sure there are others thinking the same thing
This was probably the most fun ive had in years honestly. I dont play the game anymore, but man did I get my monies worth while it lasted. The crazy faction open world PvP and the scheming for wars with other guilds shit was the absolute best. Also prob the best leveling experience ive ever had.
Exactly. I wish it lasted longer. But I definitely got my worth out of it. I have over 300hours played on the game and absolutely loved playing with all my friends and made many new ones
Looking at the server populations, there's currently 15 servers that have 24hr peaks of over 1k and several more that are between 850-1k. Certainly seems like the game's recovered a little and providing you're on/move to one of the active servers would feel quite alive. This has convinced me to reinstall and give it another shot.
Hey just checking in to see if your still enjoying? I done the same at the beginning of this month and I can honestly say I'm having the time of my life again on the game! I hope you're still enjoying it
The levelling process was incredibly addictive in this game, and the graphics and gathering functions are best I've come across, but I don't know what is supposed to keep max level players interested. I don't think I'll ever go back to it unfortunately which is a shame as it had a lot of promise. The best thing they could do now is to keep updating the game until it's a decent MMO, then close it down and use what they've learnt to create the Lord Of The Rings MMO that we were all expecting from them.
@@riddert4966 I played that from launch until around 2011, then went back last year for 6 months before the launch of New World. It's a great game but it's 15 years old and has it downsides - I know - I amassed around 2 years playtime. The only way Amazon are getting a huge initial draw for an MMO game in the near future is by utilising a big name such as Lord of The Rings. They could use the foundation from New World and actually spend a couple years creating a good game and effectively relaunch as Rings Of Power MMO, or something.
... You should note that, the uptick in the Steam charts in April was the result of a freeplay weekend on Steam... Considering that fact, the uptick was tiny.
i play/log in every once in a while just to check what's new and the market.. i don't think people are coming back as much as you'd think; the people you've just been seeing are just the results of servers being more and more consolidated lol unfortunate at launch, but ags have been doing some pretty good work since then to make slight improvements, albeit slow and sometimes maybe even a little bit too late. you can even check steamcharts that they're still losing players pretty consistently except that one time they added the new dungeon by like ~4% and shot back down by ~24%. hopefully, they get on the plus side again when they finally remove orbs to dungeons as they've mentioned in their recent dev report video.
Some friends and I decided to pick it back up after souring on Lost Ark's progression. Game has some work to do but it is feeling better than ever so if you enjoyed launch and arnt maxxed I highly recommend giving it another try
As a player of WoW who hated every new datadisk that came after WotLK, New World really suprised me and it was really fun to play it and explore. The biggest problem I had was with the community in-game though. Where WoW severs looks alive, everyone in chatting or trading - you meet new people around every corner and just stop and talk with them, or people in main cities are recruiting for raids etc... New World just seems dead in this regard.
The need for “ninja-ing” chest isn’t needed. The gypsum system has given end game many avenues to progress gear score and eventually give you umbral shards to upgrade your gear to 625
I knew it was a train wreck yet i still bought into it because i wanted that new fresh MMO feeling that i never had. Game got even buggier week after week instead of getting fixed and i got bored until my level 35 and i dont intend to return
@@adjacent-smith because people don't enjoy dead games. MMO is an experience shared by a "community" Josh Strife explains that quite nicely. All the people on the forums white knighting the shit out of the game got what they wanted now. Their "true community" instead of allowing any feedback to actually go through lol. Almost everything in this game scream neglience besides the soundsystem and people just don't like that, it leaves a bad taste in whatever you do. I really enjoyed New World but it won't come back unless they start heavy investing. It still has chance due to most known streamers giving it potentially some other chances draggin ppl with them, but it's unlikely NW will get back to life within 1-2years.
@A. Schulz people need to temper their expectations as there's more games and communities become more niche. Every game is a dead game by old-timey metrics. *I think adding PvP on servers would maybe be helpful to make the world more dangerous and interesting
@@Bankai90 You don't even know how wrong you are about almost everything you've said. Pigeon is telling us that you are getting staggered in pve combat all the time which is not true and you can see that in the video. Every kind of mob has it's actions and attacks that are without stagger and some with stagger that are stronger and usually come with longer animation or whatever. It's your job to recognize these moves and block or dodge them instead of crying that there is a stagger in the game at all like wtf. You are talking about a feedback, but they are literally the only AAA game developers that constantly listen to players feedback and address stuff that players want. I don't get you. This game is very far from being dead and the only thing that would kill it in the next couple of years is people continuing the hate train like it's a second fortnite or something. It's just sad
Guild Wars 2 is still gonna remain my main MMO since I don’t see any other MMO doing things better as much as I wish there would be a new one that genuinely does things really well and different
i think this is the general mind of many people who played new world. its like...why should i play a game that is at maximum, average, instead of my favorite mmorpg. also if you mention gw2. you go to new world and instantly miss so many QoL features that are kind of standard by now. best example is the transmog system. i mean thats at least another reason to hunt specific gear that is, otherwise, useless to you.
@@cptnhero6116 that and Guild Wars 2 encourages players to team up since the rewards are never selfish which should be standard in the MMO genre yet it isn’t somehow
I might go back since everything has value now. Gathering was my favorite part but I was always held back by how much it cost to move large quantities of stuff through all the settlements
This video actually got me in to New world. I stayed away from it at launch and decided to finally buy it now. Maybe the endgame isn't great, but i'm having so much fun right now with gathering and exploring.
It's because they changed their goal from being PvP centered to PvP and PvE with a year pre actual launch. Not estimated launch, they shot themselves in the foot with that, stunted dev time on literally everything while they throw together some rag tag pve system. Should of stuck with the pvp guns, or made the swap way earlier.
Opening the video with so glad it’s not p2w then a minute later trying to sell us on a p2w mobile game. Well played sir, good RUclips didn’t corrupt your morality.
I basically quit the game when I noticed the prices of materials dropped from a decent price to 0.1. I actually feel the game has potential to be great, just as ESO; the sound design is amazing, the gameplay is smooth, gathering and crafting is enjoyable, but the biggest problem for me was the lack of content.

I played during the recent free weekend and the combat and movement really need to be overhauled. I didn't get too far over the free weekend, but the combat and movement really killed any motivation to even think about purchasing the game. The enemy pathing were really wonky too. I think New world could be the diamond in the rough later on, but damn the devs will really need to polish the rough edges out.
You start. You level up. You improve. You reach to the end game. You enjoy. Then you take a break. Play again when new things are introduced. That's, my friend, is called a good MMO. Thanks Peon.
As someone who has played non-stop since the beginning, New World has improved by leaps and bounds. They're in a good spot to release more content which is really what is needed. I think the game has bottomed out at this point and should start to grow a bit by bit. I don't think we will see a big infux of players until the Ember Sands drops this fall though. We might even see a nice bump this month as 3v3 arenas are coming to the game and seem to be popular on the PTR right now. So I think the future looks good for New World, especially if they can offer compelling content in the near future outside of dungeons (but dungeon group finder is coming in the next month or two which will make those more accessible). Also if you are healing, as of the April patch, you can switch to "Group mode" and instead of manually targeting your party members you can assign hotkeys to heal them and you can toggle between this and manual targeting. Just so you know.
You can filter for attributes on trading post. Weapon Soldier for Strength, Weapon Sentry for Con, Weapon Scholar for Int. They all look like the ^ symbol when filtering for perks on trading post.
"I don't know what they've done to change this.." Fewer people chopping wood means logs are worth more. I think the "change" was people stopped playing.
No because server cap is still 2k and with about 30k ish people playing still plenty of room for full servers. I play on high pop server and you can sell stuff, what has changed is they fixed all the gold duping shit that made the economy worthless.
The realistic skills were amazing at first. Trees falling, rocks breaking, but in the end it got disgustingly boring and monotonous. Went back to my favorite God tier mmo: Old School Runescape.
@@mathiasplans Fair enough but there's more than enough content in RS that provides variation in the gameplay. Not to mention the quests in osrs obliterate new worlds

I came back after barely playing until March and I don't regret it. It's finally getting closer to what they should have released with. At least things are usually getting better with each path. At least the devs have been way more open and responsive and making the changes with the things people really despised. The servers have consolidated through mergers and transfers. Anyone who decides to come back needs to look at server population because it is a way better experience on the servers people transferred to. New World's combat, in my opinion, is far better in opr than with pvp. AI can never match a human opponent, even the noobs.
This is nitpicking. People still enjoy this game. It was never meant to be a story driven mmo. The pvp is what makes new world shine. The bugs however are a different thing.
As someone who played the shit out of PvP, fought consistantly in wars and is max level with multiple voidbent gear, the PvP is great but they seriously need to add more PvP quests and maybe some dynamic PvP events because there really isn't enough for a PvP based MMO. @@fupidox5642 yes you can, as he mentioned they are in the same tab as atributes, they have different names like knight, warrior, cleric for example. Each has its own type of stats, either one or a mix of two with one higher than the other.

But this is not sorting by attribute. You can't sort by strenght and expect to see gear with strenght. You need to sort by 10 different things with weird naming that most player doesn't bother to remember to find gear with strenght.
You can sort by stats. You have to sort with “main hand weapon soldier” for strength for example.

@Geeksalot this

"You can access every storage in the game from the same area, transfer goods back and forth between each storage and it costs nothing"
Yeah, you know what would have also been good? One fucking generic storage which every MMO since the beginning managed to figure out.
THAT!!! Some changes he mentioned sounded really great and probably would have kept me longer ^^ maybe in 1 or 2 year i will try it again(When i can play a 2h Sword xD)
Agreed. Once they made travel basically free and markets weren’t localized to each town they should have made storage global.

@@silverjohn2888 whilst yes it does, but not as efficiently as pve. OPR chests can have a chance to increase your gs if you loose or win. But considering a OPR game can take as long as a dungeon it isn't effective. I'm hoping this 3v4 and pvp track change this
Why not try other games at this point use ur time wisely my bro maybe come back to this after a long break
I think when the new expasion arrives, the game will thrive again. I started playing recently and actually having a good time with some friends.
@@TheCaitron I'm not sure the game will ever be able to thrive. It suffers from some serious engine and 'spaghetti code' issues that frustrate continued development. Looking at the server populations, there's currently 15 servers that have 24hr peaks of over 1k and several more that are between 850-1k.
Sorry to break it to you man but Amazon cancelled the F2P LOTR MMO, last year I think
Just play the current LOTR MMO if you desperately want it. Apparently its still quite active and its a polished game.
I agree, Amazon has some LOTR rights so they'll probably make one in the future with New World being a foundation for that
@@riddert4966 I played that from launch until around 2011, then went back last year for 6 months before the launch of New World.
And today they introduced a very fun 3v3 pvp arenas in ptr!
i play/log in every once in a while just to check what's new and the market.. i don't think people are coming back as much as you'd think; the people you've just been seeing are just the results of servers being more and more consolidated lol unfortunate at launch, but ags have been doing some pretty good work since then to make slight improvements, albeit slow and sometimes maybe even a little bit too late.
you can even check steamcharts that they're still losing players pretty consistently except that one time they added the new dungeon by like ~4% and shot back down by ~24%. hopefully, they get on the plus side again when they finally remove orbs to dungeons as they've mentioned in their recent dev report video.

Pvpers only stayed and they ruined it for all so I'm not so sure anyone will be coming back for anything

I can't comprehend how a company like Amazon game studios, with more money than God and Satan combined, won't hire Devs with experience in making MMORPGs, but rather assign only their fresh interns from AWS to the project.
Gotta hit that DEI quota
All the haters are searching for that feeling of being 15 years younger when mmo's were new. You'll never be satisfied.
Or the game just sucks?
@@divinecomedian2 With this mindset, the next mmo in line with suck too. Peon himself said he was tired of the genre, but it appears he keeps making mmo videos because that's what his base plays. Between his ever-expanding sponsored content and his saying a Korean mmo's monetization isn't that bad and its RNG gind fest is enjoyable, who believes this man anymore? He's a businessman milking his base, now making clickbait. Half his points in the video are wrong or outdated; no research was done. He knows trashing mmo's gets clicks so he trashed an mmo. $$$ in the bank.
The problems with the game were as clear as day way back in the beta's. Glad I didn't waste my money on this game.
"The WoW killer we've been waiting for"
WoW hasn't been top for ages, and has never been the best MMO. It's always been a "my first MMO" for kids, but with amazing advertising, then these kids just grew up and couldn't get off of it.
MMOs are addictive, and WoW kept players because having friends online, in an easy "my first MMO" setting, it was popular.... not amazing though.
😂😂😂
No MMO comes even close to WoW in terms of raid design and general quality of high end PvE, it was 2x truth back in day and it still is truth today.
@@jj7741 TERA in its prime.
The one positive review during the outro “I like cutting down trees”
FYI ... you can sort gear by attributes by selecting the respective "Title" for the attributes, i.e. "Sentry" is CON , "Scholar" is INT etc etc , its still a pain if you dont know what the terms are for stats off hand, but yeah . Other than that , more or less spot in in youre re-visit Assessment .
*Edit just realized numerous people have already stated the thing about the attributes lol, mayhap i should
read other comments first xD.
its stupid
2:07 there is a reason why you don't use Cryengine forked engine for an MMO. Most if not all real game companies stopped using Cryengine for anything other than FPS.
Excellent editing and music
Really enjoyed this video and glad to hear you came back. New World will always have a special place in my heart and Im happy to see that theyre seemingly on the up in terms of game quality and updates. I think this year will be impactful - if they can make all the content and updates it needs then I could see this game coming back!
That moment when a mobile game ad looks more intriguing than your "WoW killer"
was going to to log back. Thank you for saving my time. Algo gods bless you.
I honestly watched the ad because the game looks 300% better than most mobile game ads.
You get a roll after being staggered a couple of times consecutively. You can sort by attributes on Trading Post. 2/4 of the things you didn't like are from a lack of knowledge/experience. Glad you came back to give it a try.
editing is fire holy shit that was so funny
Combat that feels straight out of 1999 and nothing more than a run simulator.
Insane mob aggro range and a de-aggro range which is ridiculously long.
Do you think New World can make a comeback and will it?
Personally, I've stopped playing around 1-2 months after release, but after a while, it sounds like it really got some of those much needed fixes and is becoming better, but I've yet to hop on and see for myself.
that´s one thing I always rofled over: Your money is literally made of gold, but gold is worthless... so your money should be too... but contrary to what should happen, the prices were massively deflated...strange economy :D
Haven´t played it since like a month after launch tbh...
