John Gibbons is a registered Osteopath, Lecturer and Multi-published Author and in this video he will be teaching pathologies of the Shoulder and cervical spine and how they cause pain to the back, neck, shoulder, arm and hand.
Shoulder and Neck (cervical) pain can be caused by a multitude of issues like a SLAP tear, Bicipital tendinopathy, AC Joint, SC Joint, Ligament injuries, Rotator cuff tears of the Supraspinatus, infraspinatus, subscapularis and trees minor and also to the subacromial bursa under the acromion. John mentions the Gall bladder, spleen, liver that can cause shoulder pain as referring via phrenic nerve of the diaphragm to C3, C4 and C5 of the cervical spine. He also discusses murphy's and kerning sign and also pancoasts tumor from lung cancer and Virchows lymph nodes enlarged due to stomach or intestinal cancer. Cervical Facet joint and disc pathology is also another cause of shoulder and arm pain. Frozen shoulder or adhesive capsulitis is mentioned and is a tricky one to treat.
John also has Hip videos and he discusses an acetabular labral tear and also a femoroacetabular impingement called an FAI - these are cam and pincer type of impingement. He also mentions perthes disease and osteoarthritis of the hip joint. John also discusses how the hip flexors (psoas) are involved and the iliofemoral ligaments and how they cause an inhibition to the gluteus maximus (Gmax) through the hip extension firing pattern test. Janda and the lower crossed syndrome is also mentioned and how this can cause lower back, facet or disc pathology of L5 or L5 and involve the nerve roots.
John also shows you in his other videos to assess the nerve root level of the adductors (obturator nerve through L3 reflex), patella tendon (femoral nerve through L4 reflex), semitendinosus (tibial / sciatic nerve of L5 reflex) and Achilles / plantar (tibial nerve of sciatic through S1 reflex) and a normal response is classified as 2++. Any reduced hypo-reflex (1+) or increased hyper-reflex (3+++) with Clonus and Babinski positive as might indicate some form of upper motor neurone lesion like Multiple sclerosis, stroke, spinal cord tumour or brain injury.
These techniques and more is taught on the Shoulder and Cervical Master-Class at the University of Oxford.

Thanks your information it helps
Did you get it done yet ? How are you doing now ? I am going to have one soon.
What if it’s top left chest and shoulder discomfort
I have pain in the top part of your diagram mostly, but I put it down to calcium deposits forming at a site of strain. I'm a right-handed comic artist and have candida and gut dysbiosis. Interestingly, I've been doing the liver flush and gallbladder cleanse for almost a year, about 30 flushes. And something I always noticed was that the shoulder and neck pain diminishes or vanishes for several days depending on my mood/stress. I put down the recurrence of the shoulder and neck pains to simply a buildup of bile sludge and congestion again, but the more flushes I do, the less strong overall the pain has been when it is present. The entire domain of inflammation is also a lot worse when I am in low mood, depression/suicidal ideation. I suffer from.stress quite badly. But when I have been good and things are going well, the liver flush feels better than any other health supplement or practice ever has and I've had several days where the shoulder pain is largely absent. I do believe that the arthritic symptoms are caused by strain, I have a poor technique with a pencil, but this exploration of the nerve impacted by a gallbladder and liver I know to require the flush makes some very interesting reading. Following your logic, working to decrease the inflammation and poor state of my liver and gallbladder will lessen the symptoms of the shoulder blade pain, which is what I have demonstrably seen. I suppose I just need to keep going. I was convinced it was calcium deposits that were the problem because sometimes when I flushed I'd get kidney stone pain afterwards. Taking a lot of chanca piedra and so on during the week up to the flush stopped those symptoms.
Thanks for the interesting comments - regards JG
Kickitnaturally channel has some great videos about thinning bile & increasing stomach acid .
Chanca piedra removes oxalates deposits. It may be helpful to have a look at Carnivore diet & intermittent fasting once your liver & gallbladder are working properly. Sally Norton has some very interesting info re oxalates.
But after surgery my mother has still pain in shoulder and fingers of right arm ?

Hey. Thanks. Please help me explain Troiser's sign and Torticollis' in relation with the lymph and cervical plexus.
Troiser's sign is a palpable supraclavicular lymph node (Left side) - related to Virchow's as explained in video, I dont mention torticollis as not related, regards jG
Can gallbladder issues appear in CBC? If so, which ones to you look at?
If you have Gallstones then the white cells are normally elevated when you have the complete blood count (CBC) checked, regards JG
Dr.. I have a chronic digestive issue. Since 2012 I get up 3-4 a.m. every morning with a slight discomfort on the right side of my abdomen right under the rib. I feel gas but cannot expel it. I take Mylanta or baking soda mix with water and vinegar. It clear gas and I go back to sleep. I also have left shoulder pain and when my stomach problem is aggravated, I get severe shoulder pain and frequent urination (4-5) time during the night. It disturbs my sleep and I feel tired during the day. Sometime my sternum gets a little swollen. I have done: Colonoscopy, Endoscopy, Ultrasound, C.T. Scan, Blood Tests but doctors cannot determine the cause. I just had Hida Scan and the result is pending
I have done 3-4 times Physical therapy. It does help temporarily shoulder pain but it keeps coming back after a couple of months. My stomach gets upset when I eat oranges, Papaya, and Pine Apple. I lactose intolerant, Allergic to eggs, aspirin, and sesame seeds. Overall, I am healthy. No cholesterol, diabetes, or heart disease. Ihave mild hypertension. I am a male in my sixties.
I live in west side of suburban Houston area and would appreciate if you recommend any test to determine the cause of my issue. Any physician or chiropractor or natural doctor who might be able to help? You can reach out to me via email at wshaikh22@yahoo.com
I would try and see an Osteopath where you live as sure they can help, regards JG

I have stones in my common bile duct (gall bladder removed 4 years ago) now have left shoulder pain. I had an episode of pain in my left side for 2 weeks and persistent vomiting. Eating made the pain 10x worse. I also had greasy stools and slightly yellow skin. My gp thinks I had a tummy bug but I think it was pancreatitis. What are your views?
Sounds a bit more serious than 'just a tummy bug' - especially if you have a jaundice appearance, try and see a specialist privately if you can as need more testing done for sure, regards JG
Any update?
Hello. Thank you for this interesting video. I am 44 yrs old, use to do gym, weight training. I have a stiff back when I wake up for the past year. Both hands fingers are also stiff. This goes away once I start moving around. Then I developed left shoulder pain 6 months ago. One doctor said, cervical spondylosis, prescribed various rounds of painkillers and muscle relaxants. Another doctor sai d muscle spasms and bad posture. Did dry needling. Now since 1 month I have pain in both shoulders when I go for a walk. In my case is it the pancreas or the gall bladder? Could you help please?
Hard to comment if honest and especially without looking at you as can be a host of issues causing your symptoms and hopefully its not from the pancreas or other organs, see another doctor privately if not sure, regards JG

Hello doc
I am having fatty liver and high triglycerides and cholesterol and also neck and shoulder pain, my age is 27, male, weight is 71kg and height is 174cm
It would be pretty rare to have shoulder pain as a result of a fatty liver etc, especially at your age and your weight is fine so alter your diet and participate in more aerobic type of exercise. regards JG
Hello Sir! I'm having ain on mt shoulder while taking deep breath. . Also I'm having gastric problem past few day. Can you please tell me how to relief the pain !?
Not without seeing you I cant so try and find someone close to you who can help, regards JG
I think we have the same problem. When i eat and drink plenty water suddenly my left side arm from neck and ledt side stomach is in pain.
hi doc. im just 25 yrs old.. i dont have issues or pain in my stomach in any part of it but sometimes, just sometimes when im i've eaten a lot I will have a little heartburn not so painful but the pain goes through my back, in my upper center part of my back, just like the pain in front going through the back. the pain is just tolerable and just last like 1-2 min. and it will be gone if ill stand but comes back when I bend forwrd. the pain is not located in the upper right part.its in the upper center part of the back. is it posibbly a gallstone or just an acid reflux.
Get a ultrasound see if you have gallstones
Sir I'm Rizwan sir my left shoulder pain all simtmes in my body plz tell me which medicine use for pain go my bodie🥺
See someone where you live as sure they can help, regards JG
Thank you John for your clear explanation it was very interesting and informative. I’m 45 and tick all 4 of the risk factors. I have over a dozen gallstones which seem fairly large on the ultrasound over 1cm and my right upper arm has been extremely painful for well over a month. I have fibromyalgia and automatically put it down to that. It’s extremely persistant. I have many pain points in all the areas you suggest so again it’s difficult to know exactly. My appetite is significantly reduced yet I’ve put on weight. I’ll chat to my GP and ask for a referral. Kind regards.
Thanks for the message, and good luck, regards JG
I have pain in the left rhomboid pain of my back sir.what is the reason for it?
See an osteopath or chiropractor as could be many reasons, regards JG
sir plz its very urgent.
my mom CA stomach patient n her spleen was also removed by doctors,, after surgery of spleen she is having chronic pain on left shoulder tip.. she can move shoulders easily but she is having pain in shoulder.
plz sir suggest some medicines or excercise.. anything
Sorry to hear that but cant recommend anything without seeing her and she is already under the care of the medical profession and they should know what they are doing, regards JG
I had my gallbladder removed yesterday 6/27/22 and I'm getting shoulder pain, heard the shoulder pain is due to the gas they use for surgery. Ty
Thats true and hopefully the pain will subside, regards JG
Great John..is this more common then with women generally?
Thanks and yes more common, regards JG
I do have a lot of gallstones, but I dont understand my pain is almost immediately after eating (anything) everytime. And its on my left side. Getting some left side shoulder pain as well.
Probably best to see an osteopath where you live as sure they can help, regards JG
It's exactly what happens to me right now after i eat or drink.. Suddenly i am im pain on my left shoulder
How are you now?
Hi Very interested in your video, I have suffered for nearly 2 years with a pain in my left shoulder, I had a steroid injection but that didn’t help. I now have a stabbing pain in my right shoulder blade with a burning pain between blade. Last week I had a stabbing pain in my gallbladder area, now waiting for results of scan. I also have excruciating pain in my left side of my neck.
Probably best to see an osteopath where you live as hard to assist via a text, regards JG

My dad has been diagnosed with liver cirrhosis and liver cancer. Recently he has pain in the left side of his body. The pain is running down from shoulder to ribs. What could be the cause? Peritonitis?
Not fair to answer the question, especially as I am not looking at him. Take him to see the Doctor if you are concerned, regards JG
Definitely need some systematic reviews testing these theories of ?visceral referred pain?
Thanks and hope you liked the video, regards JG
Sir I have liver Cirrhosis. There is a lot of pain in the right shoulder since 2-3 months. Is it due to liver cirosis???? pls suggest me sir
Once the liver heals - if it is not to damaged the shoulder pain will reduce - in reality the Liver is the most important so focus on that...regards JG
@@JohnGibbons Cirrhosis simply means that the liver is damaged. For which TACE was done in 2020. Just having shoulder pain since 2-3 months.

Thank you. I have been having left shoulder pain for the past 5 months specially the left trapezius and left rhomboid muscles and sometimes to the sternum
5 months earlier it started with pain near the gallbladder which i called it as kidney pain then I did ultrasound of the whole abdominal and nothing was found but they gave me urine infection medication and still have the pain near the gallbladder which doctor said might be gastritis.
Then had done cervical MRI but really nothing is found for shoulder pain. I could lift my left hand easily.
But trapezius pain and pain near the gallbladder and sternum. Now i saw your video I am bit worried
Sounds like the viscera might be causing the shoulder pain, regards jG
@@JohnGibbons after watching your video at first I thought it. It might be gallbladder but my left shoulder and trapezius are affected.
I am going to share this with my doctor and see what he has to say at least no more gastritis.
I am already advised for Thoracic and shoulder MRI.
Thank you for sharing.

I was in a very significant auto accident. I rear ended a stopped vehicle, at 65mph. I cannot recollect anything, from 30 minutes after. I have a throbbing, acute pain, that initially I assumed was a broken bottom rib, on my right front torso. Then, as time passed, the pain emminated to my right rear torso. I am thinking, liver, pancreas, or...
The pain is best described, as somebody digging a police baton, into my right rear torso, just about the height proximity of my lowest right rib...only now its transitioned to the rear of my torso.
65 days, and the pain is still present. No blood in urine, or stool.
Or gallbladder?
Very dull pain, I would suggest two or three finger widths, below external. No longer believe a broken rib. I had x-rays evaluated, from night of collision, dr assessment, stated possible cysts present on liver, but I do not drink alcohol significantly.
Have an MRI / CT scan and full bloods and see what the results are, regards JG
If it hurts, remove it. like an old piaggio. Lots of pieces falling off. Well it still works... my ankle hurts, remove ankle. Head hurts, remove head...
I sometimes have said that, if your arm hurts then take it off.....no arm no problem, in reality thats not going to happen though, regards JG
