True. My husband is very "anti-pill". He would rather suffer with a headache than take an aspirin for it. And it's all because of when he was a kid his mother's doctors finally prescribed her one-to-many pills and she started hallucinating. While she was hallucinating, she would beat him and his sister. Thankfully this only lasted for a few weeks before he eventually mustered the courage to sneak out of the house and ride his bicycle to another family member's house to ask for help getting it stopped.

A few months ago, I submitted a question to Dr. Gupta. I never really anticipated getting a response back. I was worried about my new diagnosis of Second Degree Type 1 heart block. It was right before Christmas and it was really concerning me. I was shocked when I opened my email one morning and had a voice recorded response from Dr. Gupta. I have never experienced a physician care enough to do that - even the ones that I know personally and pay for! God Bless you doctor. Keep up the great videos. WARNING: MOST doctors will NOT like questions. They think they are being challenged, and they are used to being the bosses in everything. They will either blow you off, or make you feel like a dummy for wanting to know what they're thinking. Get used to it and keep pushing back if you don't mind an adversarial relationship with your provider, or find another doctor who's willing to take the time with you.

When my mum was diagnosed with high blood pressure 20 years ago, her doctor not just gave her bp medication, but also blood thinner, cholesterol tablets, and many more, I was busy working and was not living with mum and was very ignorant at that time and didn't know much about medication. Mum's health deteriorated quickly from constant cough, osteoporosis, bone pain, fluid in lung and then dementia, within a period of 15 years, she passed away from stroke. So sad and now I am living with constant guilt, I should have done more to help her but I had no idea but trusted the doctor treating her.

Yep, mine too.....impatiently at that. Don't feel truly heard and I am rushed, I just want a doctor who will enter into a sensible conversation with me, discussing the facts and options and hear me when I share what I already know so we can have a meaningful conversation about the issues, with the view to finding a solution that works.
Also one who will take what I'm saying seriously, instead of dismissing me before I've barely got a sentence out, as just a statistic.... I have ME and that has cardiovascular effects that may complicate my situation, do I have any idea whether my cardiologist even knows what ME is? Nope. And since my experience in a & e has been that people treating me didn't know what it is at all, how can I trust that the person making the decisions over my care has any understanding of my situation? They're just seeing a typical low-mid aged female and treating me as that without considering that I might fall inside a totally different risk category AND may very well have complications that might not be super obvious. VERY little testing done, very little concern... but zero discussion around this despite major symptom issues that are affecting my life. Very frustrating.
Same thing in different ways with different doctors though, since I got sick with ME 6 years ago, noone listens, then I get really sick and finally they accept what's happening.... but things could've been prevented getting so bad if I'd just been heard and taken seriously to begin with. Now it's my heart and I'm scared, because missing something early with THIS might not be so fixable. In the UK too.

Whilst doing so, my pharmacist had run out of Ramipril for a few days and I had none to take and miraculously my stomach pains vanished overnight. The pains then re-appeared when I restarted the drug and my GP agreed that I should stop taking them after 10 years. To compensate, I increased my dose of Bisopropol fumerate but at least I took onetablet less than before. Had my pharmacist not run out of Ramipril, I can guarantee that I'd still have stomach pain and I'd still be reviewing my diet 12months later !

Great video and one that has finally convinced me to get off my "essential heart medications" because it seems to me the supposed benefits certainly don't outweigh my probable risks and definitely lower quality of life. My mother who died in 2018 when she was 95, was on a cocktail of 7 or 8 tablets every morning for a heart condition diagnosed when she was in her 60's, spent the last year of her life in a nursing home with severe dementia. Her tablet regime stopped immediately once she went into the nursing home and it didn't have the slightest effect on whatever those heart issues were. I now find myself on blood thinners in case I have a stroke, and beta blockers for high blood pressure and to slow my heart (currently 45bpm) because of AF. I hope Dr Gupta does a video to help explain "the risks" of getting off this Pharma gravy train .

Unfortunately it is difficult to have such conversations with the Doctors. I was so surprised when my mom was prescribed a medicine to reduce cholesterol (statins) and the doctor said it was to reduce risk of heart attack. With that argument, she started to take it. Six months later, we changed the Medical Centre (NHS - UK) and the other doctor told her to stop taking immediately as for her case it made no sense given the risk of statins.
Unfortunately, none of the cases the doctors asked about her lifestyle or diet, which is how we improved her numbers.

True. I had my first stroke a few months ago, totally out of the blue, despite thinking I was healthy. I had no symptoms, no pre-diagnosed conditions, nothing. As I laid in a hospital bed recovering, one of the first things the hospital tried to do was get me to start taking a Crestor (a statin) pill. When my husband, who is VERY suspicious of doctors, immediately objected and asked the nurse what it was for, she said to reduce cholesterol and thus reduce risk of heart attack. My husband asked the nurse if they had tested me and determined I had high cholesterol.
The nurse stood there silent for a minute, then admitted they hadn't tested me, it was just their common practice to give Crestor to as many patients as possible, especially those patients over age 40. I was totally astounded and shocked to experience, first-hand, such deceit by a medical professional. I had believed my entire life that the doctors know what's best for you, and that my husband's claims/rants against doctors were just a conspiracy theory he was into. Needless to say, I did NOT take the Crestor. I then also refused to take any pill they tried to give me until 3 criteria were met.
      1. They told me the name of it,
      2. They told me exactly what it was for, and
      3. My husband did some quick research and gave his temporary approval.
I came out of the hospital only accepting 3 of the 6 prescription pills they tried to put me on. I take them, some of the time, while my husband diligently researches alternatives to these pills, as the idea is to get me off them as quickly as possible before they do long-term damage.

Thank you Sanjay, I have always researched any drug prescribed for me since almost dying from Graves disease caused by a mini contraceptive pill, ending up in hospital for 2 weeks and being given the choice of a thyroidectomy or radioactive iodine. I researched the pill, found it sometimes caused Grave's disease so refused both. Since then I have had a great scepticism for any drug prescribed which had bad side effects. You are an inspiration to other doctors who should all follow your example

Thought my husband was the only physician who felt like this way about meds. As a Pediatric ICU and CTICU nurse, for the past 40 years, this is the first time I hear any physician, specially a cardiologist being so honest and confident enough to speak out.... I also just need to add that meds are pushed to patients so that physicians can protect themselves in case they are sued. The more meds given the safer and more protected the physicians feel. Just saying!

I stopped everything, I felt 100 percent better, was able to start walking for 30 minutes at a time, started losing weight and started taking an interest in life again. The reason I ended up with so many was because symptoms were treated, not the cause. No coordination for services.

It’s a shame that none of the will change until medical schools are required to have more hours of nutrition and integrative medicine and physicians move to a new frame of mine on treatment and more importantly, cure and not just treatment. Thank you. I’ve seen my grandmother taking “heart” pills that put her to sleep trying to eat her lunch. She died of heart failure. I often wondered if the treatment was worth it. My Mum, was on a mix of diabetes, blood pressure and heart medications which was bad for her. She begged her doctor not to put her on the diabetes meds because the side effects were terrible for her. I wonder how much vascular dementia could have been prevented if the mix of meds could have been looked at. As a borderline and then officially diagnosed diabetic I was sent to an endocrinologist. As I have IBS-D she agreed that consistency of meds in my body would be difficult to determine to say the least. So that was the end of my diabetes treatment. That was 2017 I believe. There is no point in being tested for blood levels if I’m not even getting advice. No diet, no exercise, no referrals to a local group that has been recommended to him by his patients. It can’t be that serious until pills can be given, right. I may know my own body but I haven’t spent years learning what goes wrong with it and if there’s something to prevent or manage possible problems. I would enjoy visiting a doctor who uses intelligence and education to help me live a better quality of life. I’ll just have to keep looking for one like you.

Can't take meds as have NARROW angle glaucoma, excellent heart, slow HR, LOW blood pressure. Years ago GP put me on beta blockers for migraine as I was getting 4 in 3 weeks. Triptans worked well for me. I felt horrible on beta blockers. Would prefer migraines!

My blood tests now show good cardiac heath with 1/2 ratio trigs/HDL and 120/70 blood pressure, excellent hormones, and mood and energy are good. No more GERD, or insomnia, and I lost 20 kilos. Get rid of pills by cutting out carbs.
