- Instructions from a professional on how to replace a Dyson DC50 change over hose (COV hose).
If this was helpful and you would like to send me a tip as a thank you: venmo @Brett-Magnuson-3
This cov hose has the same gasket as the original: amzn.to/45x8lRc
This cov hose will work except you need to peel
off the flat gasket and exchange it with the flat gasket on the broken cov hose: amzn.to/3KZIZTN

One of the best instruction videos I have watched. Clearly filmed and well narrated. Was able to fix my DC41 by myself after watching it several times. 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks, great clear to follow instructions. Just ordered the part and glad we don’t have to buy a new vacuum cleaner.
where did you order part. I'm having issues finding the part
Very helpful video, thanks. I also took off the other hemi-spherical, that helped with access and light. It took me a while to get the washer style gasket seal completely seated but all good now. Cheers from across the Pond.
Great video. Dozens of videos available that were no help. This video was easy to follow and not lengthy. Saved me a lot of money.
Rocking video! So clear and wonderful ‘flow’. I would have no problem performing this repair myself. Excellent!
I've never written a comment on a RUclips video before but this video is a life saver!
Thank you so much for this useful video and clear instructions on how to replace those parts have saved me a lot of money on a new hoover. Thank you!
You’re welcome!
Excellent Video with good clear explanations . You have saved me loads of heartache. I thought I had to remove handle assembly etc just to replace this split hose. Many Thanks John😁😀
Im not exactly a handyman but after watching this video once and then following it as I did the work I got my vacuum to once again work like it did when new. Thank you. Tip being sent.
Great instructions. Had a problem getting the clip off but otherwise fine. The detail on clipping the top of the hose back in was good. Many thanks. (UK).
Excellent video! It made the replacement far easier than I expected and worked perfectly to restore my vacuum to new!
Excellent video! I changed everything on my DC50 EXCEPT for the COV house, until I watched your video, which identified the exact problem with my vac. I found the part on the internet and used your video to walk me through the replacement. Just like new!! Thank you too much!
Perfectly pitched instructions, and a well produced video.
Thank you for this post. Just followed your guide stage by stage 👍 much appreciated.
Great video and guidance. Job done after I'd diagnosed the issue. Works like brand new again ! Thank you !
This was a great video. It helped me fix my vacuum.
My only wish was that you re-assembled in exact reverse order. My small screws were slightly different diameters, and evidently I flipped them. While my one hose screw is in there, it doesnt seem to have only lightly grabbed so I suspect I accidentally used the wrong one and bored it out. It's still holding, and if it does come out I'll find a fix.
Other than that, really nice detail. Vacuum is running like new again.
Thank you! Worked great on my DC41, after 9 years it's working like new again. Luckily we had a screwdriver set with the T8 and T10 on hand.
Thank you for this, just changed mine, the toughest part was getting the spring hook off and back on 👍
Mine will not come off at all.
excellent video , we used it to fault find our problem , buy a new part and fit it - all works perfectly now like brand new ! thanks so much !!
I did this myself without knowing about this video. I had a bit of a time figuring out the spring but after a while I did. I so wish I had found this and watched it first I would have saved a lot of time and removed far fewer screws, The audio is concise and succinct. Really good stuff Thank you
We have two DC50s, one inherited, and both with the same problem. The video was excellent, and I doubt I could have worked out how to do it without it. Still a fiddly job. Thank you.
Thank you for the great video, am having to replace mine. very good step-by-step process.
Great video. My giddy aunt...what a hideous job and not one many people would be able to do. Definitely need the right tools to start - the T8 screw was one not readily on hand. We found many of the pieces/parts difficult to access and manipulate and the job took wayyyy longer than expected. Excellent that we were able to break it down into the individual sections to complete. We are both pretty handy and when finished ... vowed to never ever buy a DC50 again!
Thanks. I was able to replace my tube. Had trouble at first until I watched your video again more closely to see where all of the screws went.
Excellent advice and demo thank you.
Most helpful, couldn't do it without your help. Thank you so much.
fantastic, so very helpful - thank you. I used it on a DC50.
Man you are great! I had exactly this same issue with this broken piece and I struggling to understand how to dismount that piece, I was dismounting too many screws and pieces. Thanks a lot!!!
Yw!
VERY Clear instructions
Thank you for posting, fantastic instructional video. I thought you're framing was fine, even reconnecting the spring shot.
Thank you very much - really helpful video - once replaced the vacuum was like new.
Great video! Made the repair easy.
Thanks so much for the video! Was a great help and all fixed now!
Thanks! Our DC50 is back to new!
Great detailed video
Thank you so much for this video as I was able to replace this hose. It would have taken 10 minutes if not for taking the spring on and off. It added another hour lol. It was very difficult and did not slip off and on as easy as yours did. It did not push on and off with my finger, I thought I was going to bend it. I had to use a small flat head screwdriver to push on and off. The post was notched somehow. My DC50 has a gold canister top, maybe a different design? Thanks again!
Thank for the video. Very helpful.
Took me about 30 mins to fix using your video, thank you so much!
Great job! Thank you!
Great guide, thank you
Great help thank you!
Thank you very much for your excellent video and explanation - was a great help....cheers..
Maybe I'd have figured this out on my own, but this saved me a lot of time and frustration!
Thanks I wouldn’t have been able to work this out alone!
Great video. Exact same issue for me, the split in hose only visible when NOT in upright position. The giveaway for me was a high pitched whistle.
Thanks. It’s great video
Very good instructive video . Makes this seem possible even for me 😂👍
I had a problem with my Dyson DC50. I believe I have suction problem. Before I open the parts, I will do basic cleaning and see what happens. I will reach out to your channel try to get more help from you. Thank for giving me the courage to even touch it. Bye for now.
Thanks for this.
Amazing. Thank you.
Thanks! This saved me a lot of money. I appreciate it!
Glad it helped!
Thanks. This video really helped. I noticed though on the UP15 Mag (UK if that matters) there was an extra plate blocking the spring from popping out. So, it's easier to remove the other end of the spring than shown in the video on this model.
Thanks for the input!
Very helpful and saved me having to buy a new vacuum
Nice. Work,,,thanks
Thanks man. that helped
THANK YOU!
Thanks!
Thank you
Saved me l thought it was going to be new Dyson after your video l will put the money saved to a 65 inch 4k tv thanks
Thanks
this is very helpful, but please check your shot framing, because key parts are out of shot.
Thanks for the feedback. It was my earlier videos with very little experience. I had already finished the repair and sent it out the door before I reviewed the footage 😭🤣
@@richardsvacuumcenter I can understand. Some Dyson bits are very tricky to dig out & that link tube looks designed to wear out.
We found one of these vacuums on the roadside collection and it had an identical fault.
Bought the replacement part from Amazon for $20 AUD (shipping from UK to Australia).
Just fixed it today, and all working!
Thanks mate!
Great video. I have a DC9, which is almost the same machine. When I popped the spring, which you show at 4:34, the post which held the spring snapped off. On the DC9, it's a replaceable part, held by 2 screws. I cannot find a schematic parts or parts numbers schedule for the DC9 so that I can replace the plastic part. Can you help with that? Thanks very much. I hate to lose the machine for lack of a $2 part.
where did yall order the part?
Dyson DC50 Internal Hose Cuff Seal Vacuum Cleaner how to replace it please
Hi mate, I did this fix via your video (very helpful btw) but I'm finding it's not fully sealing when in floor vacum mode, the valve doesn't seem to be coming all the way down. Is the spring to blame or something else?
Could be the spring. Did you buy an off brand cov hose or a genuine dyson one? Some of the off brand cov hoses have been know to do that.
Hi, great video but I'm still trouble shooting. I looked over a Dyson Total Clean vacuum, new hose, filters look good, no apparent obstructions in any of the hoses nor wand nor in the roller bar area itself. I'm not getting suction thru roller bar area nor at the hose handle. When everything is removed and I turn it on the Motor sounds good and at the top of the ball is very strong suction & air exits the side where the filter attaches. I feel no suction where the roller bar attaches. I have tried both handle positions (upright & down) I am baffled cause I see no obvious issues, the part you mention in this video appears to be in working order. Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks in advance : )
Check in the center of the cyclone where the debris needs to travel to enter the clear bin. I often see clogs right inside there.
Richard, I've got a DC41 (Same System) and it's missing the COV hose's Rubber Gasket. Dyson doesn't have parts for that model any more. Any way to get that part someplace else?
You will have to replace the entire COV hose. Unfortunately it looks like those might be harder to get. The last time I looked for one they were selling for $60!
My change over hose is fine, but it is not seating fully to give full suction to the sweeper head. Will replacing the hose fix this or is there a spring that has weakened somewhere? Thanks.
Is it the original hose? Did you verify no objects were stuck inside preventing from moving fully?
Original hose and nothing blocking.
Where can I get the rubber washer for the top?
The top of what?
My hose is bad but also vaccum makes loud sound would that possibly fix both issues?
Replace your hepa filter and the cov hose. That should solve both issues
I called the Dyson service phone number today and was told that this part is not available for purchase by an owner of a Dyson vacuum. It can only be repaired at a Dyson Service Center.

What if you don’t need the whole thing just the rubber gasket that is attached to the part of the hose that flips back and forth ?
Please help
Can’t find it 😢
I'm not aware that the gasket is available separately. However, trust me, if the gasket is broken, it's a matter of time before the hose splits. Just replace the whole hose.
What do you do if it's not creating a seal properly? I've followed your video and it creates a seal perfectly at the top, but not at all at the bottom.
Hmm just double check everything.
Great video. I've noticed with a lot of these internal hoses and changeover hoses, that have breaks in them, that they are yellowed. I think the common problem is that people are using these for wrong application purposes and going to town on heavy soiled or slightly damp carpets that have been shampood and not dried properly or vacuuming animals slightly on the wet side or lack of filter maintenance. Another thing is, heavy smoking households causes this as well. I have a DC 43 upright, which was properly maintained. Never vacuumed drywall, filters maintained, never seen moisture for the most part. And never vacuumed oily substances like spilled coffee grounds in the kitchen or even sticky sugar particles which can chemically take their toll on plastics. Moderate vacuuming is good. Proper shampooing of carpets should also take place so no dried chemical residues get left behind. I've maintained a lot of Dysons and most households have super heavy carpets and they rent out shampoo vacuums like rug doctors and don't do a proper initial cleaning. Dysons should never be used in finishing jobs of shampood carpets. If any residual chemicals go through those cyclones this could centrifuge unwanted gases out of the residual chemicals used. Hence cyclone separators are also used or were used in the coal and gas industry to centrifuge not only harmful particles out of the air but also gases. Cyclone separator technology is also used in the perfume industry to extract essential oils out of plants. I've never seen this issue in properly maintained uprights and my DC 43 is a circa 2012
Thanks
I have the exact opposite problem the floor and carpet have decent suction, but the tools through the wand has little to no suction. Should I replace this part?
Make sure your wand isn’t clogged first.
The entire wand and hose are easily removed to check this. At the base of the hose where it connects to the ball there is a red clip that you push to release the hose. You'll need to take off the dust collection bin to see the red clip that you depress like a push switch. To put it back on just push the flexi hose back into position, you should hear a click when it seats.
I’ve replaced the hose but it still isn’t picking up? When I check, the hose isn’t right against the vac when in floor position, I don’t know what to do now? 😭😭
Or simpler put, the valve isn’t lining up flush when in lowered position, there’s a massive gap.
@@tasfish1 I would recommend taking it out and installing it a second time paying close attention to each detail. I'm not quite sure what the problem is based on your description but most likely it wasn't installed properly.
Very fidely. It's putting it all back I will struggle with. ......
Yes re assembly is always the trickiest part!
cannot find the screws to fix it. Purchased on ebay, don't fit. Not at Lowes, Tru Value, HomeDepot, Dyson, vaccuum repair won't sell them to me. help
What screws are you referring to?
a long one in the side ( a clear view of it in your video at 0:42) . I cracked and took it to the repair guy. $129 for a screw (and they will throw in a tune up). Im still interested in where to get these course thread 6x32 408a Grade 4 or 5 screws. thanks @@richardsvacuumcenter
Can do video on how to do one on a dc41 please?
I'll put it on my list and when one comes in I'll be sure to record it! Thanks for the request.
@@richardsvacuumcenter Ok thanks👍
@@thedysonvacman5516 just uploaded it today!
@@richardsvacuumcenter Thanks
Все предельно понятно. Молодец!
I must have installed it wrong! It has a lot of suction from the “exhausts” on the top of the ball, but none from he hose or tools. Help!
Check for clog inside the center of the cyclone.
I got it to work perfectly now. Just set you a tip for your assistance.
GREAT VIDEO BETTER THAN MOST SAVED MY BUTT
The difference between the DC49 which I've got and the DC50 which I haven't is like chalk and cheese....

I’ll never buy Dyson again. The most plastic garbage vacuum ever. To think Dyson was attempting to manufacture a car! No thank you!!!
😂😂😂
Do you work for Dyson???? 🤗
No I don't.
try to keep the camera focused on what youre doing, just stick to what you need todo, no screws that we dont need to remove, please stop dribbling about the notch, we got it already, get a camera for the head if that helps, but what ever you do, please keep the camera focused on what youre doing aka no eye focus to the edge of the video else we may miss a detail we'd need to see, no point on an instructional vid where you cant see what the instructor is talking about? i had to go else where to complete my fix, if you make it look hard, you didnt help that much.
Most 'stuff' is made on a conveyor belt, manned by people that arent paid much, which means, they probably arent there by choice, which means their intelligence probably isnt academically recognised, which includes most of the worlds population, which may imply anyone can fix anything with enough correct instruction. just a thought. nothing is too complicated if you break it down small enough.
Appreciate the feedback. May I offer you some feedback on commenting on videos? Next time you give feedback try not to insult the person who is attempting to help people for free. Perhaps season your words with gratitude rather than entitlement.

By far best description of how to do this. I had trouble getting the spring off but found it was possible to do the job without removing the spring.
