Hey Sebastian! You inspired me to do my favorite note vids as well. I of course had a more feminine take on the top 3 recommended fragrances. It’s was fun but definitely lots of work 😓 Thanks so much!
#1 for me is vanilla. Other faves (not ranked in any order): peony, honey, almond, marshmallow, pink peppercorn, tonka bean, tobacco, bourbon, coconut, coffee, orange family (tangerine, orange blossom, blood orange, etc.), bergamot, benzoin. Yes, I'm a gourmand lover! 🍬
Wow, just amazing! You took me to fragrance school. You have inspired me to push my boundaries and dig deeper to find those unique gems. My favorite patchouli is Perris Monte Carlo Essence de Patchouli . Keep up the great work!!
From these notes from number 1 to No 10: Tobacco, Patchouli, Coffee, Vanilla, Leather, Amber, Booze, Musk, Vetiver, Lemon. Still lot to try and to learn, thank you Sebastian, love these lists!!!
I took a complete chance and bought Indochine by Pierre Guillaume and it’s such a great benzoin perfume- 30% I believe. I hope you will get to try it. My favorite notes are: 1) myrrh/ oppoponax 2) amber 3) vanilla 4) patchouli 5) vetiver 6) musk (although what does it actually smell like?) 7) bergamot 8) blackberries 9) benzoin 10) pine At least I think haha
Great video! Thanks Perfume Guy for „enlightening“ me in the different world of notes, and suggested fragrances to try for each of these notes. Can‘t wait to get started!
Loved these two videos. I learned a lot. I am surprised oakmoss is not in your top 40 notes, but I guess I shouldn't be since you said it took you quite a while to like chypres.
#1 Vanilla and Tonka, Amber, Rose, Oud, Jasmine, Oranges and Neroli Orange blossom, Cinnamon, Patchouli, Tobacco, Musk, Ylang Ylang, Amber and Benzoin, Blackberry and Iris. But so many more.
I KNEW your top 2 would be vanilla and patchouli...I just wasn't sure the order. I laughed and told my husband - "Sebastian is what us fragrance lovers call a patch-hoe..." LOL! These 2 videos have been GREAT! I'd have to put my top 5 as: Rose, Honey, Saffron, Tonka Bean and Musk (although I am JUST developing a great appreciation for oud and its almost tied with musk)...But, that order - 1,2,3,4,5...Awesome Job - SO much fun these reviews!
Yesterday I found Encre Noire a l'Extreme at our major fragrance store here, Brocarde. It turned out there was a whole 'nuther wall of brands I had overlooked on my earlier visits and, suddenly, yesterday, there they were: Lalique, Tom Ford, Penhaligon's and others. I was stunned I'd been so oblivious. And I'd been dying to give the Extreme "Encre Noire" a sniff. Couldn't believe it: there was the tester right there waiting for me. Spritzed it on the wrist, rather heavily. Sniffed. .................Nothing. Tried walking away, out of the store and its perfumey cloud. Still nothing. Went back in. Sprayed some more on. A faint, vague something but mostly...nothing. The bare hint of a scent was pleasant, yes, but I'd certainly never fork over the money for, essentially, water. I am truly mystified!
I literally buy around 30 essential oils for each note so I can differentiate it better. LOL So here is My top 15 favorite notes 1. Vetiver 2. Rose 3. Sandalwood 4. Mint 5. Patchouli 6. Vanila 7. Jasmine 8. Bergamot 9. Benzoin 10. Ginger 11. Cardamom 12. Ylang-ylang 13. Neroli 14. Coffee 15. Basil
It would be great to do a video like this and listing three fragrances for each note… But a little different. Listing one niche, one designer, and one cheapie. Or just three different perfumes in three different price categories.
Realized all my favorite contained Patchouli. In fact my sister who is an intense thrifter/garage saler once bought a fragrance named Miscka (I think that was the spelling if not close) I think it was discontinued, but if you know what I am talking about and ANYWHERE I can get it again I would be so appreciative. Pretty sure it has Patchouli. The one she had was in a small solid black bottle. And it is not a Badgley Mischka as I have looked at all his. I saw a bottle online years ago, but not now,
Neroli is my favourite fragrance note and excellent choice of Van Cleef & Arpels Neroli Amara - absolutely superb. Not a fan of Patchouli but intrigued by your recommendation of Diptyque Tempo as Diptyque is currently one of my favourite brands that I had neglected until the past 6-9 months. Definitely need to try it.
I really need to get my nose on Floraiku AO, as I love figs and have been nurturing a little fig tree in my LA garden for years, a honey version. I must like orientals and have just received Xerjoff Dolce Amalfi, which they describe as oriental with a prominent quince scent. I must like quince -- it is almost citrusy. I forgot to list booze scents in my faves. I love cognac and bourbon scents (not much of a drinker, though). And orange blossom. I put orange blossom in the syrup I use on baklava. So now I have more like 12 faves.
Incidentally my sotd Carven Homme has all 5 of your top 5 notes! I think Sarah McCartney's Eau My Soul has all 5 too. That might be an interesting concept - Pick 5 - where someone gives you their top 5 notes and you recommend fragrances that have all of them!
Wow... just like choosing my top favorite perfumes, choosing the top favorite notes is so difficult. I'd just have to go with the number of fragrances I have featuring those notes. Here's a top 20. 20.Tea 19.Sesame 18.Styrax 17.Dates 16.Green Apple 15.Lavender 14.Cedar 13.Oppoponax 12.Pinapple 11.Cinnamon 10.Leather 9.Boozy notes (rum, whiskey, cognac...) 8.Patchouli 7.Cardamom 6.Rose 5.Iris 4.Benzoin 3.Tobacco 2.Amber 1.Vanilla
Cumin is pure body odor to me. My favorite galbanum fragrance is Creed Royal Oud, which doesn't feature galbanum (cedar is dominant) but uses it along with angelica to combine with the cedar to impart that "golden" vibe. It helps impart that regal character. And both fig and date fruit, nectar/milk are high on my list. And I like lavender, with Tom Ford Beau de Jour probably the best lavender frag I have. And I do like Guerlain Vetiver best for vetiver, with Terre d'Hermes Eau Extreme Vetiver and Tom Ford Grey Vetiver next. The Neroli featured frag I have is Floris Neroli Voyage. Cinnamon is at the top of my list, with Hermès Equipage and CK Obsession for Men at the top of my list.
Hi Sebastian I’m back again watching your videos you have perfumes that I’ve never heard of before and that’s what I like about you try something different sometimes & how you explain the notes. Maybe you can do a Video on Myrrh’s Fragrances I believe I like it. I do like Dolce and Cabanna for women and men I like the man’s better I own both. Thanks I am learning a lot I Guess I never really paid Attention to the Notes 3-29-2022👍🏽👍🏽
thanks Sebastian, I enjoyed this series...my top notes are Amber/ Leather/ Vanilla/ Veitiver/ Roses and Patchouli. not sure where the aldehydes will feature?
@@ThePerfumeGuy it's more polarising for sure, but a gorgeous blend still. Regardless of whether it's discontinued, if you had to choose one and forget the other, TO or TV, which would it be?
Ok at least I guessed your #1, #2, and #4 correctly :) Thought #3 was going to be vetiver, surprised amber beats tobacco for you, and surprised seeing vetiver so further down as #10. My guess for your #5 would have been rose. Some of my favorite notes: vetiver, cedar, tobacco, vanilla, grapefruit, orange, mandarin, lemon, incense, cardamom, cinnamon, lavender, iris, mint, gardenia
I binge-watched your videos all weekend and now I'm curious if you have tried Bois Impérial by Essential Parfum which was launched in 2020. It has vetiver, patchouli, in short, I can imagine that it's right up your alley. I'm torn in between purchase Bois Impérial or Rose Magnetic from the house 🤯
Outstanding! Really enjoyed this series. Have you tried Oud malaki by Chopard? Outstanding tobacco fragrance perfumed by Dominique Ropion. Interested in your thoughts.

Just discovered you this weekend and I called #1. We seem to have similar in taste. Cliniques Aromactics Elixir has been my go to for years
OOh. Are you a patchouli lover? Hello #patchho !! :)
Sebastian, you have missed sage and eucalyptus notes. Also if you could describe the each note first that how it smells.
I really need to get my nose on Floraiku AO, as I love figs and have been nurturing a little fig tree in my LA garden for years, a honey version. Vanilla is tough for me. But I love amber.
I learn so much from your videos.
I love this series. So many fragrances and great notes. My favorite note violet is missing though. :(
If almond was on that list. What are three almondy scents would you choose? Have you ever tried ETRO’s patchouli??
This is a great topic
tea over sandalwood and chocolate??
My favorite note is patchouli. Thanks to you.

thanks Sebastian, I enjoyed this series...my top notes are Amber/ Leather/ Vanilla/ Veitiver/ Roses and Patchouli. not sure where the aldehydes will feature?
I’m doing a follow up video in the series and I’ll discuss Aldehydes!! Obviously did not make the 40!! 😀
I was honestly expecting Tobacco Oud under the tobacco category. Do you feel Tobacco Vanille has more tobacco than TO?
I think he was just giving random options for each note
Tobacco Oud is discontinued and also hated by a lot of people!
And yes Eduardo got it I was giving random options and whatever was available and easy to access. 😀
@@ThePerfumeGuy it's more polarising for sure, but a gorgeous blend still. Regardless of whether it's discontinued, if you had to choose one and forget the other, TO or TV, which would it be?
Love roses. I love your top 10 notes.
U r a Legend Sebastian great Knowledge about Fragrance
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
For the amber, with jasmin and rose, Secret Amber from WELTON. It's an amazing perfume for men, haven't smelled anything like it with amber so far.
What a ride this was 👌
Wow so many perfumes from Chanel in this list
Ok at least I guessed your #1, #2, and #4 correctly :) Thought #3 was going to be vetiver, surprised amber beats tobacco for you, and surprised seeing vetiver so further down as #10. My guess for your #5 would have been rose.

Beautiful topic,, aroma from heaven
Creative sir!
My idea of an awesome perfume: coffee, rum, patchouli, tobacco, vanilla, lavender, rose, musk, cacao and rose.
Doesn’t sound good at all lmao. You can try some you may like tho : Little song, Naxos, Awake, Memory motel
hi sebastian. if i may ask you.. can you recommend me a fragrance that smells very close to lartisan seville a'laube ? its my fav
Neroli Amara is incredible. Best neroli scent in my opinion.
It’s quite good!!
Iris Dragees was unfortunately discontinued last summer.
That sure had a short life! Seriously L’Oreal is the most annoying conglomerate!
Outstanding! Really enjoyed this series. Have you tried Oud malaki by Chopard? Outstanding tobacco fragrance perfumed by Dominique Ropion. Interested in your thoughts.
Got a sample of that jovoy psychedelic and its is goooooooddddd!
Just had to add this: petrichor - the smell of rain.
Yeah :( I think tuberosa is getting discontinued cause I’ve been trying to get it for at least at year and it’s been out of stock the whole time
I guessed your top 3 correctly 🎉🤩
