    To all my fellow ’Perfume enthusiasts, welcome to the #1️⃣ RUclips Perfumer, Sam Macer !!!
    …So I’ve been following SM for awhile now, and when this video was posted 2 months ago, without even finishing it, I jumped headfirst on ordering the 35+ Raw Material kit…
    I’m here to say, that at just shy of turning 60, I’ve been having the time of my life every day since, creating new fragrances, while gaining more knowledge, with these very fine materials & Sam’s professional videos 😃
    Since I live in Canada, the exchange & import fees were not great, but ultimately worth every penny,… Please gift yourself this opportunity, you’re worth it, and I can assure you that you will be thrilled above & beyond 💫

    Oh, your channel is soooo helpful! I'm thinking about trying to mix fragrances by myself and realised that there is almost no information in my native language (I was so surprised that last proper book in Russian on making perfumes was published in 1955), but luckily I found your channel. I have experience in making face cleansing gels and cold process soap, and very much excited about fragrances.

    Am so glad someone is doing this - I’ve been into collecting frags for a bit , and have a bunch of mostly designer, cheapies, mid east, vintage/discontinued - couple of Chanel’s/ysls etc. But I also have about a hundred ingredients - which I dabble with, for fun mostly - am not too serious about it. I have just started ‘dabbling’ again - so your guidance is extremely useful. Thankyou 👍🥂

    Great video. I stumbled upon this subject as it relates to a couple of my projects. To us newbies you are speaking another language. So remember to treat your videos like reference material. Breaking the materials into groups,👍🏾! Using the screen to separate top, mid and bass notes 👍🏾. To help us understand the different qualities of a material I would suggest good-better-best model.

    If I could give 300 likes, I would. 💚 What a fantastic vid Sam. The landscapes made it fun to follow! In terms of the musks, I would personally go for Romandolide myself; and good call on the Sandalwood. Even Javanol can get pretty pricey real quick. Para mi, I might add an indonesian patchouli (since the absolute is way too pricey) and a spice like cinnamon or pink peppercorn oil, but you've nailed the essentials. Very well done!

    Great vid Sam. I am a perfume collector first, and this is my newest interest - making my own. I’m not necessarily interested in business ventures; more of a personal hobby. I have some very expensive perfumes and have acquired exquisite taste ($$$$) so I am interested in recreating my own versions of beloved accords/scent profiles with super high quality ingredients; however, I don’t want to waste expensive ingredients either. How do we determine whether to use the super expensive floral absolutes vs. commercial bases or molecular version?

    I'd add Tonka bean (ou Coumarin) to the Traditional notes.
    I'd also replace Lavender EO with Lavender Absolute.
    I would've started with workhorse materials as a category, and add Ambroxan in there.

    • @JayMannStuff
      @JayMannStuff 5 месяцев назад

      I'd also recommend Patchoulol crystals instead of Patchouli EO.
      I'd also highly recommend anisyl acetate as a mat.

    • @sammacer
      @sammacer  5 месяцев назад +4

      @@JayMannStuff Since it's meant to serve as a first step in perfumery, I think it's more appropriate for students to learn the traditional canonical materials first in most cases instead of more nice (even if arguably nicer) variants. I like anisyl acetate too but I think anisaldehyde is more universal. Many of the notes fit into multiple categories such as coumarin, however I had to organise them due to screen space / populating each category, of course these same notes could be categorised many different ways.

    • @mickeyconnor830
      @mickeyconnor830 5 месяцев назад +1

      Tonka beans are readily available on Amazon in the US, and a simple alcohol tincture is incredibly cheap and easy to make. Roughly 12 dollars US (including the glass bottle) can provide you with a dozen large batches of very potent and long-lasting raw material. ❤

    • @pami333
      @pami333 5 месяцев назад

      @@mickeyconnor830 with less than 6€ for a gramm of tonka bean absolute I wouldn't bother tincturing, actually.
      @JayMannStuff the problem with lavender absolute is, the quality of a bad one compared to a good one is way way worse than the quality of a bad lavender eo compared to a good one. Also way more restricted, thus already less beginner friendly. Patchoulol is also a bad replacement for patchouli eo, it's use is rather limited to fresh transparent creations (which not everyone is looking to make) or as a minor modifier (which again makes less sense in a beginner kit)

    Im creating parfume now and my process is really common, im using chat GPT to create new unique fragrance.
    Seems like chat GPT have a great knowledge in parfumery and in science of olfactive molecules even giving me percentage for each ingredients,
    Ultimately you still have to test and balance for your own preference, but he give a base of witch ingredient would go well toghether and at witch ratio. You can even ask him to create you a parfume around 2-3 ingredients you would want and chat gpt will create a formulation with scent going well... even explaining why each element complement each other... i already made 3 parfume using that Process and for now they are very very nice, I even made one with 19 ingredients,,, with no knowledge in parfumery almost and just following chat gpt ratio of dilution and ratio in the mix of the parfume.

      For sure AI will be important in the future of perfumery, however it also isn’t a replacement for human input anytime soon, rather a tool

    • @FulguroGeek
      @FulguroGeek 5 месяцев назад

      @@sammacer Yes, it will never replace himan creation, but for pafumery what is nice is if you are not a professionnal and you would like to have lets 3-4 certain ingredients but would love to add 2-3 more to create a more complex scent.. the ai can poit you in the good direction, instead of experimenting blindly with raw materials and maybe prevent wasting materials. Thats where i find AI interresting.

    • @FulguroGeek
      @FulguroGeek 5 месяцев назад

      If you have3-4 ingredients you absolutely want in your parfume, go to chat GPT, Ask it to take the role of a master parfumer so it can acces the data on parfumery and science of olfactive molecules, than ask him to create a more complex parfume with your request on the type of parfume. Example, i would like to have Yuzu, pineapple, vanilla . thansk ask chat GPT something like this, can you crate a more sophisticayes parfume with those 3 ingredients, i would like you to create a parfume with 5 ingredient in top notes, 5 ingredients in mid notes and 6 ingredient in base note including those i asked you, Each ingredient should complement each others and go well toghether. I would also need the correct ratio of each ingredients... Something like that

    If I have your fragrances analysed by a few labs and triangulated the results, what ingredients doesn’t this kit include? Do you think perfumery could be the second oldest profession? Either way, all your AI automation experience could lead to a thriving and respectable career on OF if all this doesn’t work out. 28:08 more midjourney? 🙈

    I am very interested in perfumery, and I will get going asap, so I have a question. Is 10 ml of Bergamot FCF or any other top, heart, base note enough for testing in the beginning? It looks very little, as I imagine it'll take several attempts to land a decent perfume. What is an adequate quantity in your opinion for such notes?

    • @sammacer
      @sammacer  4 месяца назад +1

      If you predilute everything to 10x you give yourself 10x more (in a sense) to blend with so I'd say it's enough for a while

    possibly very stupid question but is this the type of stuff that perfumers in big or niche houses use? like do they just test out different little concoctions made from raw materials they experiment with just like you?

    • @b.nugent733
      @b.nugent733 4 месяца назад +1

      the process is more or less the same. perfumers for large perfume houses/fragrance companies usually have years of training in chemistry and perfumery and access to hundreds upon hundreds of materials. they also usually have a brief and their product has to be approved by more people unlike the creative freedoms of a indie perfumer. but they are likely to use all of these materials and I'm sure a lot of the process is experimentation based

    Question: How does someone create perfumes with 20 - 30% concentration when they create 10% & 1% dilutions of their raw materials? Would the scent that smells good using the 10% dilution still smell the same way at 30% and the dilution level only affects longevity of the scent?

    • @wib6044
      @wib6044 5 месяцев назад

      You just go down your list and work out how much actual raw material there is The formula is the dilution number 1, 10, 20, 50 % etc. multiplied by the amount on the scale. Then divide by 100
      So a 20% Oakmoss dilution that weighs 0.120 grams with the alcohol would be
      20 x 0.120
      Divided by
      100
      = 0.024g of actual Oakmoss.
      Once you have the true amount, then add up all of those. Then do your juice to alcohol ratio for 10,20, etc %
      Yes dilutions do make an impact on smell, and certainly effect performance.

    • @sammacer

  • @andreaandric4273
    @andreaandric4273 5 месяцев назад +1

    What happens when we create 1% and 10% dilutions of raw materials and use them? If we use only diluted raw materials, will the finished perfume still be 20% if we created 20ml of perfume essence, and added 80ml of alcohol? Will it still be 20% perfume (eau de perfume) if we used diluted raw materials or the finished perfume is therefore diluted even more than 20%? Can you elaborate on that?

    • @sammacer
      @sammacer  5 месяцев назад

      You use a mixture of 10% dilutions and 100% pure to get a dilution in the middle. An app like Formulair helps you do this easily without the maths
