  • Hello and welcome to the SPOOLIN UP channel.
    In this video I upgrade my interior speakers on the Golf from the worn out standard set to some crisp, new Alpine units. These speakers were a straight swap out for the standard units so there was little modification required.
    The job itself was easy and did not cost a lot to complete this upgrade. Now I have four brand new speakers in the car so I can not listen to my music with better quality sound.
    Thanks for visiting the channel, please don't forget to LIKE, COMMENT and SUBSCRIBE!!

    Great install video bro👌🏽Noticed you're still using the stock head unit. It's worth noting that the stock head unit has a really low output power, so you'll notice an even bigger improvement if you swap that out. I've got a Pioneer double DIN head unit (similar ones can be picked up for around £60 second hand) with stock speakers and it sounds really good - bit rattly when there's really heavy bass, but I've narrowed that down to my interior being a bit loose in places.

      Yes mate nice one, I think that will be my next thing to do along with the tweeters and get it pumping in there nicely. Thanks for the advice mate I will keep my eye out for a nice little bargain. I too have a loose interior in place but that is just the car showing its age a little bit.

      I'm replacing the standard tweeters up front which isn't turning out to be a bad job to do. It would have been cool to have another pair on top of those though. Where are you thinking of putting the spare ones you have? You might be able to get them in the door card. Black and beige will be a nice little colour combo in the car or. Having a nice interior to sit in definitely makes for a more pleasurable drive. The speakers are a nice little touch. Good luck with the work 👍🏽

    nice upgrade! i have a 5dr mk4 with no rear speakers, was just thinking of getting some kicker component speakers, sound deadening the front doors and upgrading the stock tweeters and getting the 12” edge active sub but keeping the stock head unit purely for the aesthetic as i prefer it to aftermarket head units (sacrificing a larger delivery of power and sound quality i know, but ah i’m a sucker for aesthetics) 😂

    • @SPOOLINUP
      @SPOOLINUP  Год назад

      Nice one mate, I hear you with wanting to keep originality. Someone actually suggested a stock looking head unit to buy and it looks pretty cool, its called RCN210. Maybe you would consider it if you didn't want to sacrifice the benefits of a more powerful unit. I still haven't bought a new head unit, I know a lot of aftermarket ones don't really suit and they can look tacky. Sounds like you will have a nice setup though. I'm yet to get a head unit but will wait until payday. Good luck mate.

    How are you liking the Alpines? Upgraded the head unit in the Leon some months back to a Idoing android unit and it has really improved the sound but some bass/mid tones cause some distortion from the speakers.. guessing they might be kinda on their way out. Been thinking about changing the speakers but honestly really clueless to the available options haha.

      The speakers are cool man, will definitely do my head unit next as well to get the most out of them. I will also do the tweeters as they are a little more challenging. Its a nice little upgrade to do especially before the summer comes so you can cruise with some nice tunes.

    Nice video. I have the same car, same problem. lots of rattle with deep bass. I’ve been torn between upgrading from the stock head unit or getting speakers like you did. Did these speakers fix the rattle? Do you have the factory head unit?

    • @SPOOLINUP
      @SPOOLINUP  Год назад +1

      Nice one man, so I think the main bad audio is coming from the front tweeters. There will be some modification to their mounts required to change them for the new ones I got in the kit. The new speakers are great so I would recommend it and yes I have a factory head unit, should I change that?

      @@SPOOLINUP I’ve heard that newer head units have better sound quality. If I could just do one or the other I’d be happy, and I do kinda like my stock 1999 navigation radio. Thanks for the info, I might just do what you did.

      I know what you mean, I think the stock units look so much better in the car because it just matches everything else. I do however think it would be nice to have something more modern there to use in terms of Bluetooth and better sound. It's a tough decision.

    • @SPOOLINUP

      Hey, I didn't cut anything, but I had to drill the rivets out of the old speakers behind the door cards. Nothing was cut and pretty much everything is reversible. The speakers are the same size. The only thing I had to alter was the panels that house the tweeters.

    The stock speakers are actually very very good. I was very pleasantly surprised when I swapped out the stock head unit for a quality double din unit, not going to win any sound offs but I feel no need to upgrade the speakers at all (I've done the route of amps and subs etc etc with many previous cars). That glass in your door panel was more than likely at least contributing to vibration noise but maybe just interior in general was a bit 'buzzy'. Mine has the full leather so that alone probably helps with acoustics being a more solid and weighty build, don't know if they had better speakers as stock in leather models (is also 5 door)?
    Great vid as usual anyway, are you happy with the upgrade?

    • @SPOOLINUP
      @SPOOLINUP  Год назад +1

      Yea actually I think I will go for the head unit next, was it an easy job to exchange for the double din? I think my interior being a low quality one and just a little aged now but I'm planning on revamping it all soon. Full leather definitely helps either the acoustics for sure man. I am happy with the upgrade but will continue to do more bits, not going to mess with a sub or amps so will keep it simple. What head unit do you use mate? Thanks as usual for your comment and advice.

    • @Just_James_79
      @Just_James_79 Год назад +1

      @@SPOOLINUP Yep it's a very simple upgrade and if you get a quality unit (not some naff Android touch screen thing) you'll be blown away by the difference. The opening in the dash is slightly bigger than a double din so you need a facia / adapter plate, they're about £8 on Ebay. I went for a Sony WX-900BT (got one boxed as new with microphone etc for £60) which brings you up to date with bluetooth and hands free calling etc but also has fully customisable colour for the buttons and display so was able to tune it to an exact match for the dash illumination. It's really neat and just looks like it's meant to be there, for less than £70 it's the best upgrade I've done to the car.

    • @SPOOLINUP
      @SPOOLINUP  Год назад

      Sweet man thanks so much, I will look into that now, I've always wanted to go a head unit but some of them look tacky and almost too modern for the older cars sometimes they stick out like a sore thumb. Gone are the days of people smashing windows to take them as well thank god. I am looking forward to getting this done to get some more out of the new speakers. I don't really want an android screen so this one should be perfect for me. Only thing is those android screens are really easy to use which is a plus point and being touch screen it makes it even easier. I want to get something that fits in so I will make sure I make the right choice. Thanks again

    • @Just_James_79
      @Just_James_79 Год назад +2

      @@SPOOLINUP Obviously it's down to personal choice what type of head unit you put in there but I'd advise to stick to a decent brand like Sony or Pioneer. My personal criteria (aside from being very good audio quality) was to have an actual CD slot (I like to burn my own MP3 discs), something that looked cool without being ultra modern but with the bluetooth functionality for hands free calls (phone just synch's when I turn on the ignition) and above anything else I wanted a proper knob / wheel for volume control! I can't stand having to press buttons or touch a screen to adjust the volume, sometimes I want to instantly crank it right down for whatever reason and don't want to be fumbling around holding buttons down or pressing a screen! Some things I prefer to have mechanical practical function rather than annoying gimmicks.
      The other thing that sold the Sony unit to me was the mentioned customisation of the colours, I have the climatronic heater controls (annoying buttons, would rather have dials) which has the blue lcd display so was able to match the head unit to this and the rest of the dash display exactly.
      If I get around to giving the car a clean at some point I'll do a walk around vid including the stereo and dash setup at night.

    • @SPOOLINUP
      @SPOOLINUP  Год назад

      Sorry for the late reply man. I definitely agree that a decent brand has to be the most important thing. I don't know if I need a CD slot because I actually don't own many any more because CDs from my childhood got destroyed and I can't make any. Bluetooth for the hands free is needed 100% mate im with you on that as at the moment I use a FM transmitter which is good but nowhere near as good. I would also need the audio control know probably as I cant turn it up and down on the steering wheel. I too enjoy the mechanical controls as you get a bit more of a feeling with them. The customisation bit sounds cool as well. I am sure I will make the right choice in the end but I think it will take some searching.
