8:47 somebody who eats a crapload of protein shakes who has a very very controlled diet to make their body look this way.
your wrong this is normal this how an athletic person look like. you dont need protein shakes or a controlled diet. ( i did it myself your just lazy .so you call them unnatural to feel good ).
this is just simple biology when you use a muscle a lot . your body start to improve that muscle.THOR shouldn't be fat he is a god. being fat is not normal . fat accumulate inside your body
      ( Dangers of Visceral Fat
Too much of any body fat is bad for your health. But compared to the fat that lies just underneath your skin (subcutaneous fat), the visceral kind is more likely to raise your risk for serious medical issues. Heart disease, Alzheimer’s, type 2 diabetes, stroke, and high cholesterol )
( your muscles generate heat. Before this research, it was believed brown fat in the human body was solely responsible for heat generation.)
look at pictures of hunter gatherers. they always workout by the act of hunting. and low body fat because of the running

People who are surprised haven't paid attention. There were two massive clues in the first game hinting at Thor's appearance: Magni and Modi his sons. They were both tall and barrel chested so obviously their da wasn't gonna be chiseled and thin. Men shaped like him are tough sumbitches. I did a lot of martial art and my sparring partner has the same physiology. It's like hitting a wall and he can just absorb blows, wait me out and strike once lol. Gladiators, the best ones anyway, were shaped like that too. They were fed barley to fatten them up so they can bleed, give a good show and not die. Because no it wasn't to the death all the time like in the movies, these guys were rock stars. I understand that Thor not wearing a shirt might bother some people but to me, it's a power move. To show that the elements don't bother him and he's above that. It reminds me of the classic "oh you think THIS is cold?" Power play in my country. For sure the rest of his pauldrons is a bit busy tho.

Being someone who grew up with nordic mythology as part of my culture I mostly ignored the Thor part of the Marvel universe even though I loved the X-men and other things. Exactly because everything was wrong. No one had a beard, everyone looked like a body builder, thor was blonde. Loki was Thor's step brother even though in the sagas Loki is Odins blood brother and has no relation with Thor other than them going on adventures together a lot because they are the two most fun archetypes to go on adventures of the gods (warrior and trickster). Everyone had horns or wings on their helmets even though there is no archeological or written references to any of that.
When I saw people getting upset with Idris Elba being cast as Heimdal back in the first of the Thor movies I was feeling like "oh so this is where you draw the line of shitting on nordic culture? When you can be a racist about it. Thanks but no thanks". Now we have a game that actually makes a depiction of Thor that looks a lot more like what I imagined growing up and people are butthurt about it? Give me a break...

It's all about the human condition mate, we don't like change ( many of us ). The cinematic Thor is an idealization, it's the Roman/Greek idealization of the body, but in today's world, the media has sort of immortalized this idealization, and it's ingrained in our minds. Sadly most of the people who are genuinely outraged are people who probably have a feeling that people who are not skinny or ripped are inferior and not good-looking, it's a sad reality that our world has catered us to. So it's always good when games like these which are so beloved start to reverse this effect.

I've got this lower back pain; what do you recommend?", you'll be able to say, "Well, based on research carried out in the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology; I suggest you try getting a tattoo applied to the affected area."
This version of Thor does look great. I love the wild and woolly and, frankly, bonkers, tone to some of the Eddas.

Love love love it. As someone in the acting industry, there’s loads of pressure to look certain ways. I’ve been sent a photo of a casting for an “average” body type where it was a girl in a bikini who had visible abs which is incredibly unrealistic. As someone who pays attention to diet and works out every day, the effort to look like what Hollywood now considers “strong” or “fit” is insane and unrealistic. Glad to also see they went back to red haired Thor!

I see this sort of thing when it comes to a lot of game art and looking up 3D model references as well, especially as someone who wants to get into the industry. I had to completely do a character turnaround by hand for my project for class because so many characters are the 'lean and fit' sort to what you describe. Even if they don't have abs! It's really disheartening to know the entertainment industry in general is like this.

    My thoughts:
I like the basics of this look. Red-headed, bearded, biker-body.
The things I think they should change:
1/ wash the hair and give it some style. The sources talk about how his hair was beautiful not how his hair was a messy rat's nest.
    2/ He's outside in a damp cold. He should have a shirt/tunic.
3/ I agree that it would be silly to give him a Mjollnir pendent. But he should be wearing jewelry to show wealth and status.
4/ Give him the iron based gloves that go with the belt.
5/ The fringes look... messy. As does the jumble of things on his arms. I think he should have a cleaner sillouette.
6/ He's a storm god. Give his clothing a sky palette; greys and blues.

I for one ADORE this design for Thor. What quibbles I do have are pretty much just the clothing/armor, which the video has (as always) nailed; and tattoos/accessories, but what else do we expect from a AAA game title? So yeah, as a Heathen, I am THRILLED to see a pop culture Thor who is actually based on the closest thing we have to source material, and aligns Really Dang Close with my own personal mental image for The Strongest Of The Gods. AND HE'S NOT BLOND!!! HUZZAH!!
But for real, getting a Thor who is red-headed, beefy, AND fat? Love! This! For! Him! (Because yes, a character can be fat AND strong af. Characters should also be allowed to just, y'know, be fat. Because real people are shaped like that too.)
And thank you so much, Jimmy, for articulating why I can't stand the MCU's attempt at fat Thor. It really was just grossly offensive, and extremely tone-deaf towards the character's arc as well as members of the audience who might identify with it.

Just for sheer practicality it makes sense that Santa Monica Studios would want a radically different look for their Thor, its a very clear indication from them of "We Are Not Marvel!" But what I've noticed is a lot of the same people getting mad about GOW Thor being "fat" were also the ones that were clutching their pearls about Loki being bisexual in the television series. "Its a left agenda being pushed on the story!" No Phil its just developers reading the mythology sources.

Just kinda proves that all the race and gender swapping coming out of Hollywood lately, has actually done more harm than good for minoritys and representation.

    • @jodieg6318
      @jodieg6318 3 года назад

@@highlyopinionated5611 Considering not knowing much about the mythology is very easily solved by a quick google search or watching a Welsh Viking video; it’s not like Norse mythology is a big secret, it makes jumping to conclusions about non-ripped Thor or bisexual Loki (he had sex with a horse in the mythology!) worthy of a bit of an aggravated sigh.

    • @highlyopinionated5611

@@jodieg6318 Yes, they could Google it. But most people won't instantly make the connection and think "Hey, perhaps the Thor that I'm familiar with through Marvel and Victorian Depictions is historically inaccurate." Most people cannot even phantom that people in different parts of the world with different cultures, in a different time, had radically different worldviews. Heck, lots of average Americans probably don't even know that Thor is a figure from ancient Norse mythology. The only Thor they know is Marvel's modern beauty-standart conforming Thor and Marvel's Loki was never Bisexual in the comics (wich are supposed to be child friendly, so you can bet your ass of that he never f***ked a horse in the comics, either.) Most people won't even think about a deeper background, they just go off what they are familiar with. As a saying of my people goes; "The farmer won't eat what he doesn't know."

Good video, I would say that in the last game, Mimir says a few times during his stories that Thor has become fat. I got the impression from the story they’re telling, that this version of Thor hasn’t suited up for battle in a long time so his old armour doesn’t fit. Like Robert Baratheon at the beginning of Game of Thrones “The Kings too fat for his armour”
So whilst the thick stomach it’s reminiscent of a power lifter like Eddie Hall maybe Thor is also a little out of shape compared to his younger days and he’s been dragged into the fight by Kratos killing his sons

I'm a fan of the overall design. He actually looks like a strong, powerful, man. As someone who tends towards a lot of muscle and a lot of fat, if there is one thing I'd nitpick body wise (as opposed to clothing), it is the chest looking very low and flat. I know they didn't want 'man boobs' on Thor, but that's just what happens if you have big pecks and fat over it.
A lot of the dissonance apart from idealized body is what 'scary' is supposed to look like too.

This body imagine is everywhere and, as you mentioned, not natural or always healthy (e.g. hollywood actors having to dehydrate themselves to look extra ripped), so to give THOR, who's so well known and liked, this look is not only more accurate and making more sense, but brave and needed.
