I recommend watching on RUclips if you want to see a classic Superbowl. It had everything. That was no easy kick for Norwood especially with all the pressure. Sports can be cruel and I still feel for the guy a little.
Norwood also had poor stats on grass fields-only 1-5 from 40 plus yards on grass (stat was shown on TV right before the kick). Kick was 47 yards-Bills needed to get inside the 25 to give their kicker a better chance and ran out of time.
@@andrewpadaetz5549 Exactly. That and add in all that pressure. He gets so much blame and it’s not right. Giants offensive game plan was run left, run right, and run up the middle. The bills defense couldn’t stop it and get off the field. By midway through the third quarter they were gassed.
Legit, life of a kicker is tuff, nobody cares if you make a 50 yarder even those are very tuff, and if you miss a game winner or short kick everyone clowns you and makes memes. They get absolutely no respect
That season was the birth of the 'Dirty Birds'. Vikings were 15-1, Anderson hadn't missed a kick all year, they would have been up by 10 points and put the game away. Falcons were 14-2, and needed just a touchdown to tie. Terrance Mathis caught a TD as time expired, Then in overtime our Andersen did not miss his kick and Falcons went to Superbowl 33!
Two things I want to note: 1) They would have played an equally stacked Broncos team in the SB who were defending champs. The Vikings went 15-1 but only played 3 teams with a winning record. Meanwhile, the Broncos started the season 13-0 and rested starters after their first loss and finished 14-2. Terrell Davis ran for 2k yards and 21 TDs behind the best o-line in the league. They would have been a nightmare matchup for the Vikings and I think they probably would have controlled the game and beat them. 2) Everyone craps on Gary Anderson and forgets how bad Dennis Green screwed up. Besides being out-coached by Dan Reeves for most of the game, right before the missed kick he decided to throw on 3rd down instead of running. The pass was thrown away which stopped the clock before the 2-minute warning. Obviously everyone expected Anderson to make the kick, but this essentially gave the Falcons an extra timeout for their final drive, where the Vikings kept playing soft zone coverage that allowed the Falcons receivers to catch multiple passes near the sideline and get out of bounds so they didn't have to burn their final timeout too early (they ended up having to use it when Chandler injured his knee on a scramble). Horrible coaching. Even then, Robert Griffith had a chance at an interception two different times during that drive and dropped them both.
@@georgeprchal3924Yeah, that is often overlooked. Would have made the lead 10 but 7 should have been good enough. I would also like to point out that a few years later the Vikings management phoned him up while he was fly fishing in the middle of a stream begging him to come out of retirement and kick for them again.
Al Michaels has the best reactions to missed FG's, like he's genuinely shocked and even offended. "That's impossible!" Also, the weird poetry of Tony Romo saying "it can't go on like this!" at the end after being featured himself earlier in the video...

As an Eagles fan, I want to set the record straight that Cody Parkey “ double doink” was actually a blocked field goal. The ball was tipped so I wouldn’t quite classify that as a missed kick that was just great special teams on the Eagles because if that ball had not been tipped, it would’ve went through 🤷🏼 and that poor kicker got all that hate from Chicago fans

And on that one at the Cowboys v Seahawks, Romo was then stopped just short of the very BEST thing that the Cowboys could have gotten from that play, the FIRST DOWN.
As a Colts fan, I was pretty surprised that Vanderjact’s kick vs the Steelers in the 2005 playoffs. Man, the Colts were stacked that year and imo would have at least made the Super Bowl if it wasn’t for that 😔
And for all those who say '40 yard times at the Combine are meaningless" rewatch Romo bumbling the snap and going for the endzone while the defender out runs him and gets him from behind.

Instead, Drew Brees connected on a long pass to send the game into overtime where the Saints would win it. Suisham was cut two days later. The win for the Saints preserved their #1 seed and kept the NFC Championship game in New Orleans where the Saints beat the Vikings, if that game would have been in Minnesota who knows but probably a Viking win, instead the Saints went on to win the Super Bowl and maybe all possible by this one missed kick.
