It's SO COOL that the longest field goal in NFL history wasn't some before-halftime meaningless 3 points in a blowout or to win a meaningless game. Instead it was to decide a early season game, and the darn thing even dramatically hit the crossbar! Seriously a highlight they'll be showing for years in NFL films!
Next level legendary! 60+ yard field goals and attempts are happening with greater regularity. Brett Maher has a total of four 60+ yard made FG and has never missed from beyond 60. One day, some kicker will hit a 67 yard kick in a meaningless game at a meaningless time but there will never be a better, longer, more clutch FG than Justin Tucker's 66 kick.
I think this record will stand for some time, maybe all time. So many factors have to be in play, a close game that can be won (otherwise why chance the field position/runback), too dicey for a hail mary, having a great kicker who actually has a shot, NOT having adverse weather conditions.... I've seen a couple vids about a special fair catch kick rule where you can run up to it, maybe it could be done that way. Tucker is at the apex of human ability, it would take some wild circumstances for this record to ever be beaten, like kicking at MIle High, or having the wind at your back, etc. Still requires a great kicker to start with, who has a "normal" range of at least 60 yards, if the normal range is 55 yards and some outside factor adds 10% to range, still only 60.5 yards.
Field goals of this length are only ever attempted at the end of the 1st half or 2nd half. Tom Dempsey's 63-yarder was a game-winning kick. The Giants have lost three times on 60+ yard field goals. No team would ever willingly attempt a 60+ yard field goal with time on the clock because a missed kick gives the other team incredible field position; if this were, I dunno, with 5:00 left in the game and Tucker misses it, a 66-yard miss puts the ball on the Ravens' 44 yard line (56 yards in the field + 10 in the endzone = 66 yards). Obviously the risk isn't worth it most of the time, but when it's an end-of-half scenario, the only risk becomes on a potential return, but not for where the ball gets placed on a miss. (Obviously, in this case, there's no risk of a return either, there would be no reason for the Lions to do that, it's a desperation play because, of all the improbable options that could win you the game, Tucker's leg had the best chance of succeeding.)
Someone hit a 68 yd fg in a preseason game in Denver. Cannot remember the kicker's name, but it didn't count as a record because it wasn't regular season or playoffs.
They won't attempt a 60+ yard field goal at a meaningless time in the game. Unless it's the last play of the half, or the last play of the game in which you need 3 or fewer points to win or tie, you don't kick a field goal from that far out.
The one where he beat Texas A&M on Kyle Field the last time Texas played them, is my sweetest memory. Now every time Aggie fans see a Justin Tucker highlight it triggers them somethin' fierce
Can you imagine being in this situation as a head coach? 95% of teams lost the game right there when the offense wasted their last play, but Harbaugh looks over his shoulder and he has Justin Tucker in wait. That's a good feeling right there.
@@sir_cartier112 The field goal team shouldn’t have needed more time, unless you think they just wanted to give the kicker a few more seconds to think about how the whole game was about to be decided by his kick, and how everyone in the entire stadium would be watching him attempt it. That could have been what they had in mind, but it definitely wasn’t, because that would be ridiculous. I’m guessing that they wanted to try to get a quick couple of yards, if possible, and then get out of bounds, immediately, because they knew they were right at the very edge of their kicker’s range, and a couple of yards could have very easily made all the difference, as to whether or not his kick ended up going far enough to get over the crossbar. It looked to me like the receiver must have screwed up, snd forgot what to do in that situation, because the route he ran was totally pointless and stupid. He could have gone out 2 or 3 yards, and then cut to the sidelines. Then, if he’d been open, he could have actually caught a pass and gained some yards, and gotten out of bounds with time left for the field goal. Instead, I guess he figured he’d just go ahead and run his regular 15 or so yard down and out, as if the time had been running out in the 3rd quarter, rather than the 4th. Luckily, the QB wasn’t nearly dumb enough to even think about waiting for the receiver to run his deep out route, like a moron, and he did the only thing that made any sense. He could have possibly had 2 options on the play instead of just the one, of course, but it turned out that the play was absolutely pointless, because there was no one there to throw the ball to, so the other option, which was to just throw it away, was actually the only one he had. The cornerback could have literally dropped dead on the field, before the ball was even snapped, and it still wouldn’t have even made a difference, because the receiver ran to a place where the ball couldn’t have been thrown. That there is really stupid, too, I tell you what. I don’t care who you are, that’s just plain stupid 🤦🏻♂️ 🤦🏼♂️ 🤦♂️ 🤦🏽♂️ 🤦🏾♂️ 🤦🏿♂️ 🙈

From 1970-2013 the longest field goal on record was a 63-yarder by Tom Dempsey as time expired to win the game against...the Lions. Congratulations, Lions! You're back in the field goal record books!
For the 2nd time in franchise history, the Detroit Lions are beaten by the longest field goal in NFL History. In 1970 the New Orleans Saints Tom Dempsey kicked a then NFL record 63 yard field goal to beat the Detroit Lions 19-17 on the last play of the game. Baltimore's Justin Tucker did it again today with the now NFL record 66 yard field goal. And yes the final score is exactly the same 19-17. Talk about irony or just plain coincidence.
This man could hit a FG from 87 yards *against* the wind. He just makes it hit the crossbar to add a little suspense. He was *aiming* for the crossbar, that's how good he is.
That isn't possible even with a strongest leg the ball will start curving to gravity the furtherest scientifically possible is 78 yards and you have to be perfect

@@tincanmaniac1931 It's hilarious how you tried to clown my comment, but completely failed in all aspects. It's more hilarious that you don't even know it. 1, it was the Cardinals that tried the 68 yard field goal. Not the Jags. Oops. 2, the context of the situation matters. The Cardinals tried it at the end of the first half in a tie game...Not the last play of the game. Also for context being indoors (or in Denver) versus outdoors matters. So which teams might try the kick still depends on a plethora of circumstances. You'll never see most teams attempt it period because they do not have the confidence in their kicker. You'll never see any teams kick it from that distance with substantial time on the clock because of the field position if they miss (unless maybe you're playing the bears and you're expecting 1 yard net passing).

What Justin Tucker did was absolutely speechless and mind-boggling that kick put him in the Hall of Fame right there among his brilliant career!

Try 100 percent all the way up until now bro.
Wasted the last play? They didn't get the defense they wanted so he threw it away? It's not that hard to understand
98%of the teams
pretty sure they did that to give their field goal team more time
@@sir_cartier112 The field goal team shouldn’t have needed more time, unless you think they just wanted to give the kicker a few more seconds to think about how the whole game was about to be decided by his kick, and how everyone in the entire stadium would be watching him attempt it.

I’m not a Ravens fan, but I still was going nuts that he made it. I’ll be damned if I ever forget it, because that will probably mean my memory has taken a huge hit. I’ve watched too much football (30 years) to remember all the great plays and games I’ve seen over that time, but that will definitely be an exception.
So the replay will make us remember the win then 😁
Nah the fact that it was a game winning kick to go along with that’s now the record distance for a FG, it’ll be added to his legacy cause not only he broke it but also won them the game
I can’t believe I went so far down in the comments and didn’t see how the refs screwed the Lions by not calling delay of game on the play before the kick!!!
Why does no one care about this? Kick never should have happened.
The game clock and the broadcast clock are supposed to be synchronized, right? No lag or delay?
@@3dbadboy1 they aren't necessarily, the broadcast clock makes mistakes sometimes. So the clock on the field may have been different
Because it really wasnt that big of a deal.
@@kansasXcityXstealth wasn’t that big of a deal!!! If they call the delay of game they get a 5 yard penalty! First, they would never had tried the kick since it would be a 72 yard kick then; secondly he would have missed by 5 yards as his kick hit the crossbar!
About as big a deal as you can get….they would have lost the game.
Impossible kick.. one in a billion. Still gives me goosebumps.
Almost as impressive as Poté goal against Arsenal in the Europa Cup.
the moment of impact was so powerful he literally crunched that ball...
This is what happens when someone who's born to be a Marine Corps sniper decides to play football instead.
is it? Didn’t know marine Corp snipers were known for their field goal abilities.
Your videos along with Sam helped me get back into the faith thank you so much for that
@@dseabee hahaha apparently they are??
Or what happens when someone trains to be a field goal kicker their whole life.
Eat the apple F the corps
Know what's even more amazing? 2:39 Tucker's plant foot slips before the kick, and he *still* made the 66-yarder!
I just saw that. Impressive.
00:07 You see the FG Target Line five yards beyond the FG line of scrimmage. They clearly considered 61 yards the maximum.
As a Packer fan, this made me jump off my couch. Ridiculous.
no one asked if you were a packers fan tho
Works for us bear fans too.
I understand wanting your rivals to lose, but it's Detroit. Bear and Packer fans are that scared of Detroit? You guys have sad standards.
Of course you did lol theyre in your division.
I bet you jumped off your couch for another kick a few hours after this one!
Justin Tucker kick power should be 100 in madden just like when Devin Hester speed was 100 at one point of time. Just saying
Yea, but only teenage boys play games like that.
@@Supergoat76 hey brian not everyone is 65
@@Supergoat76 you can be any age to play any type of games.
@@Supergoat76 I be you where the water boy who got cut

I still marvel at that kick. I was instantly reminded of the shot Kawhi Leonard made against the 76ers in the playoffs years ago. Both being deflected but having the right spin to score game winning points!
Amazing ending. I was just looking for the other angles, such as from the side or from the back of the goal post.
Imagine a kick like that being done in front of your home crowd. I think everyone would be rushing down to congratulate you. The mad man is the GOAT amongst kickers. Well played on both sides of the ball!
The fans in Baltimore absolutely would have rushed the field 😂
Looking at the crowd and their reactions were priceless. Lions fans had a feeling he would make it. I would hate to be a Lions fan in that moment
I hate being a Lions fan every moment.
@@toddbailey5366 can't say I blame you
It’s been 52 years for me suffering. Just kinda’ numb to it at this point.
Look at that dumb ass lions player on the end who didnt even bother to try and block it. Tucker took a very long run up to the ball to get power, it would have easily been blocked if the guy just tried lmao
@@jonathang1700 The NFL decided to create the rule known as the "Stroud Rule," which states: "Goaltending by any player leaping up to deflect a kick as it passes above the crossbar of a goal post is prohibited. The referee could award 3 points for a palpably unfair act."
I won over a couple grand on a huge parlay bet because of this. I went from devastated on that final 4th to absolutely pumped when he sank the FG. It was a crazy day.
As a fellow placekicker and NCAA National Champion, I can honestly say there is no better feeling a kicker an have....congratulations Justin!!!
That’s dope, who did you play for?
@@joshwilliams2437 weird he hasn’t responded 🤨
@@psycho_mantis2114 He probably doesn’t check RUclips much. The world is so big, he might not be lying about his experiences, he might be lying - who knows?
Oh totally bro, as a former NCAA champion guy myself I too like football players winning and making plays.
Who’d you play for if you’re telling the truth? OST? Bama? LSU? Clemson?
