Doesn’t it amaze you how much we seem to take dishwashers, washing machines and other appliances for granted until something goes wrong with them? I guess it’s a good thing we have folks like you to help us out with fixing said appliances when something does go wrong with them. I was able to fix my mom’s washing machine with the help of your videos, so my hat’s off to you.
@@repairclinic I'm just now realizing that *after I started smelling funky things. I greatly appreciate the amount of detail and work that was put into this super informative video!
I just randomly came across this but it was one of the best videos I have seen on "tearing down" an appliance and learning about them. Quality animations!
After cleaning my dishwasher down to the impeller in the bottom, and listening to your video a few times, I have come to the conclusion that it is a pump motor. No water is getting to the arms, so washer is no longer a washer :). Thanks so much for this very very clear video (I have a Kenmore and the Sears repair guy is coming. I think I am one step ahead of the game here).
Oh, this visual video and schematic circuit diagram are very intuitive. The step-by-step explanation from the inside out makes people understand very thoroughly.
Thanks for the comment! Some dishwashers actually do have an added feature that allows for extra rinses. You could also install a water softener to your house water supply. This would improve your dishwasher's performance and would cut back on the amount of soap or detergent needed. There are many benefits to this besides improved dishwasher performance as well.
How the check ball works is actually a little complicated to explain in a RUclips comment. It has to do with the flow of water pushing the ball up and down a ramp, with the outlet port for the lower wash arms at the bottom of the ramp and the outlet port for the upper wash arms at the top. The timing of the water shutting off and starting again determines where the check ball is resting and which outlet port is blocked.
You're welcome! We are always happy to help. If you would like to give us a review on Google, we would much appreciate it: g.page/r/CcVUrahZNozMEBM/review We hope that you have a great day!
Hey RepairClinic, My dishwasher is no longer working, When i turn it on, it sounds like its trying to filling with water, but im not sure if it actually is, i cant visibly see water in the bottom, and theres still the dirt and particles on the bottom, if i wait for a minute or so, it goes to what seems would be the rinse cycle, but the only thing it does is make the whirring sound of the motor, no water shooting up or anything. Im going to try what was mentioned in this video about filling it up manually and try it again, I just wanted to get in touch and see if you have any tips. Thanks a bunch. Can't afford a new dishwasher and I just spent $45 on maintenance parts for this one.
Thanks for the video. Can you tell me what that little ball is for and how it works? I'm trying to understand how/when water gets diverted from lower to upper arms and vice versa. tahnks again.
I'm sorry, I'm not sure what repair you're referring to. The float does not actually determine the water level. Its only use is in case the dishwasher starts to over fill.
I was just thinking since the whole process requires it to draw more electricity from the power supply maybe the heat generated from the drying process of the previous cleanng can be converted to electric energy and then be used to run the machine in the next cleaning? is it possible?
That is really an excellent Idea, but the heat generated during drying process is infact transferred to the items to be washed (thermal equilibrium) so in reality there is no energy wasted in the process of heat transfer.
Thank you for this video.. So, the water level is not determined by the float, except when it becomes too high and the float switch stops it. Then what determines the water level? Is it simply a time setiing, the inlet valve stays open for a set length of time?
This is a general video that applies to all dishwasher. We also have GE specific videos that can be found under the "Dishwasher Repair Help" tab on our main channel page. You can get to that page by clicking on our user name, directly above this comment.
i just purchased a new one and it does not have heated drying to get its energy star rating. just open the door and let it air dry. works fine, no spots. i also have soft water, that helps.
Ok, well my point is we supposedly have these brilliant engineers designing these machines, and many never gave a thought to adding a second rinse option to the cycle? I don't get it. My particular Bosch SHE55m12UC dishwasher doesn't even have a rinse and hold option. And it's a premium dishwasher. ($800)
are their any manufacturers that still make a dishwasher with a mechanical timer? for some reason, controle bords on new dishwashers like to fail some times and their are 30 year old dishwashers with timers that have never been serviced. any info will be great. thank you
Yes, there are dishwashers with timers on the market; they tend to be lower-end models. You'll find these both in brick-and-mortar retailers and online.
You should not remove any water, my instructions clearly say you need to just pour the salt in and it will displace the water (Salt will sink to the bottom and water will pour out of the container). But that is ok since water will just drain through the filter and during next washing it will be drined out.
Our Fisher & Paykel dishwasher has all of a sudden started tripping the outlet RCD breaker today, after using it once in a long time, causing every single outlet in the house to lose power. Ran a full cycle with eco mode turned off. Was 97 minutes before it started, but 19 minutes remaining at the time of fault. After turning the breaker back on, I notice, the dishwasher drains fine, fills up and washes fine, the fault happens just right after that. Right now I have no idea what could be causing this. Any suggestions are helpful.
Another thing that wasn't mentioned is the hard food disposer. I know that many dishwasher manufacturers have done away with this feature to reduce noise. Many dishwashers now rely on just a filter, that needs to be manually cleaned. But many dishwashers currently on the market, including the Frigidaire model shown in the video, do still contain food disposers.
Just install my dishwasher. I think I cross threaded the elbow where the water feed line connects the nylon male fitting. Anyone out there know how I can fix this? I thank you in advance!
At first my dishwasher buttons weren't working. So I replaced the control panel then it started to work. But now it won't drain the water and won't turn on. Any suggestions or tips?
You have to put the dishes in the dishwasher yourself anyway, so holding them under a stream of water for a few seconds doesn't take much more effort. :)
I bought a new timer for a Dishlex dx102WB*00 part number 0574400063, but it didnt come with the plug in diagram, has about 12 small plugs. Can anyone help me to find that diagram. I put the plugs on as they came off the old one, but just want to check the wire colors to the rite pins I should have taken a pic befor dismateling. Thanks so much
It cleans most things well. Some substances it simply will not remove. For instance, egg, high protein and potassium items like soy milk shakes and dried banana it usually won't remove
my frigidaire is not that old and when it fills with water it will not start up, the unit knows the door is open and closed all controls work and it will drain when the start button is pressed for 3 seconds, it just wont start up after it fills with water, whats wrong with it ?
I enjoyed your video showing how a dishwasher works. However; your "diagnostic" presentation is lacking in continuity! At the outset, it was asking: " what are the symptoms experienced?" I clicked on "dishes are not being dried. I was apprised that perhaps my heating element might be the fault...so far that would be a viable solution. It went on to explain how the part might be tested for continuity, etc. Of course I already knew that! I've already replaced the heater element...and the "high limit thermostat". What your "diagnostic help" program should have offered is a simple: 'if that didn't fix your problem; test your high limit thermostat....and then it should have inquired: "did that solve your problem?" Your well meaning program needs to be "tweaked"; shucks; I could have presented a more cogent, helpful analysis than that! Wes Hill
***** Thanks...I did check it out and it is more helpful...I've replaced the "heating element", the "high limit thermostat"; and I have done a "continuity check" on both. The heating element was obviously defective since there was no continuity...I also did a similar check on the existing "high limit thermostat"; I found there to be continuity...so; is that good or bad? Should it be "normally on, or normally off?" I think there might be another possibility that I have yet to test....please advise me further.

RepairClinic.com my dishwasher is making a smoke-like smell. What should I do?
Yes they do! The dishes typically should be rinsed off before they are placed in the dishwasher.
this video should be included with all dishwashers sold
Thank you!
im gonna invest in a dishwasher when im older. Washing dishes manually is just hell.
Great animation! Thanks

Good video. So the tank never fully fill with water? There is no soaking of the dishes?
No, there is no soaking. If the dishwasher is working properly this shouldn't be necessary.
note to self: 2:49 shows how to remove filter for cleaning
Are Bosch dishwasher makes the dishes all sticky if we use rinse aid.
Love this video thx so so much!! :)
it is very usefull sir
it helped me a lot in understanding the principle
I like how someone recorded footage of absolutely burying the dispenser with loose powder to illustrate what's "too much detergent".
Do old dishwasher's internal components (i.e. internal tub) need to be cleaned out? Can they get any mildew or build up within the component?
Of course my curiosity of “how do dishwashers work” brought me to the boringest-most-informative video on RUclips
I'm sorry, I'm not sure what repair you're referring to. The float does not actually determine the water level. Its only use is in case the dishwasher starts to over fill.

Should hot water to sink be turned on to achieve hot water to the dishwasher faster and or less power needed to heat the water prior to washing?
I found those video is informative
Didn't know about that rinse aid stuff... I don't know if ours has that.
Most dishwashers have it. It is very helpful for keeping glasses clear.
***** Where does it come from... I certainly haven't put anything in the dishwasher... except the little dishwasher gel pack things.

how does pouring water into the sump helps when its drained at the start?
Keeps the seals moisturized and avoids warping and cracking as I understood it
