I used to live in Taman Keramat (the other side of Kampung Berembang) in the 1990s until 2006. From what I know, Kampung Berembang was a village occupied by mostly the Malays and some Chinese and Indians since 1950s. The Selangor State government in 2000s wanted to implement zero squatters near city centre and the village was demolished in 2006. It's said that this event sparked the hatred towards BN government and as a result, in less than 2 years BN state government lost the state to Pakatan Rakyat (predecessor to current Pakatan Harapan government) in March 2008. 5:24 It's not water treatment but a flood retention pond for SMART tunnel 6:59 It's not a high school but a primary school so it's normal that it is smaller in size 10:32 The colourful building is not a government house but one of first apartments built up in Kampung Berembang in late 1990s Nice video by the way
Berembang is the name of an old village in Kuala Lumpur, believed to be the site of your apartment now ❤ BEREMBANG is a Sonneratia caseolaris, commonly known as mangrove apple, is a species of plant in the family Lythraceae. The fruit is noted for its outward similarity to the persimmon fruit,This tree is a type of mangrove growing up to 20 m in height and with a trunk reaching a maximum diameter of 50 cm. It is present in tropical tidal mud flats from Africa to Indonesia, southwards down to northeast Australia and New Caledonia and northwards up to Hainan Island in China and the Philippines.
Considering KL is even cheaper than Bangkok (from what I understand), it' seems an incredible place to live. The Bangkok chaos just gets a bit overwhelming.
Bkk is terrible to live, very hot, humid, traffic is bad and I don't mention the sleazy bars and horde of backpackers and losers (sorry to be blunt!). Kl is definitely much better.
The cost of living in KL is 30% to 40% cheaper than in Bangkok. Rent costs more or less half in comparison to BKK. However, in Bangkok we have much more business opportunities and a more cosmopolitan lifestyle.
Good morning Taylor.. Ampang area has many embassy offices including the American embassy, and many foreigners especially expats live there and also those rich people with big bungalows and mansions are there. And that's why it's quite a quiet place with many international schools and private land and clubbing. It's my favourite place, especially for the Zainal Satay in Ampang Jaya, soo delicious 😋 Btw, Berembang is a Malay word for a fruit, its sour with white and sometimes pinky flesh. I remember I had it in my kampong when I was child 😅 Thanks for sharing👍😄
Taylor im happy for you that you've found a better place to live and a location that you like and wishing you well for the converstaion with mgmt about access
Hi Taylor! You didn't give the name of your apartment (or maybe I missed it), but from your video, I think it's D'Rapport Residences. It's pretty close to Gleneagles Hospital, and to Great Eastern Mall. A really convenient location. Enjoy your new neighbourhood!
@@andrewtaylor4558 Hi Taylor, enjoyed your vlog and thanks for showing us around your condo and neighbourhood. May I ask which estate agency helped you with rent your unit? I'm interested to stay around there as well.
It looks very green Taylor which I think brings more calmness and the wonderful sound of birds etc. 🐦 Glad you are enjoying your new home and neighborhood.
Hi Andrew. Thanks for the vlog. It looks so nice where you are. The swimming pools are ideal to keep you healthy and so close to the centre. Take care. Ashley.
It’s so nice! Quiet too. Love your property, nice for strolling around. Looks like you have some local places to check out. Can’t wait to see more Taylor! ❤
We went to KL from Thailand for one week in January. Funnily enough we stayed at Neu suites which is a condo also doubling up as airbnb. The 2 bed apartments were quite nice but some of them had been converted into 2x studios which were awful. The facilities were good but lift wait times were poor I can highly recommend the al safina restaurant a few buildings down from Neu suites as the food was very tasty and extremely cheap. It was always full of Malay locals so definitely worth a visit. We went at least once a day whilst we were there 👍 KL shopping mall was too far to walk especially in the heat so we always took a grab taxi
Maybe they don't want outsiders to cheekily hitch a ride on the lift with residents from retail level up to the facilities level. I think in some other apartments there are cases like that ...
I enjoyed your walk around the complex. The neighborhood looks quite nice. I’m sure you’re looking forward to more retailers in the empty spaces. Cheers!
Hi Andrew.......not too sure if anyone told you already but the pond at the back is actually a flood retention pond for the Klang River. Should the pond filled up and it will over flow to the SMART Tunnel. The tunnel would direct the water to the Taman Desa retention pond to the south of the city where the water would discharge to the Kerayong River. First time commenting on your channel and I love how you bring us around and explain things. Keep it up and hope you would love and enjoy Malaysia more.
Very nice Andy! I love it and would be very happy to be there. Thanks for showing us around and I'm very much looking forward to the "Cook's" tour inside.
Hi I am fairly new to your chancel, very interesting and interested in relocating when I retire in 4/5 years in relocating from UK to Malaysia. Have you done a pros /cons of living there? How much is fully inclusive, covers all, monthly healthcare costs? I guess in KL no need to own a car? Love your channel, help greatly appreciated too. Hope you are well. Kind regards Gerry
Delighted to hear you have landed on your feet once again . And glad to hear that your medical trip to Penang went smoothly . I recall that you once mentioned you also favoured the dentistry of Penang rather than KL . Is it a matter of sticking to the familiar or are they really superior up in Georgetown ? Good health .
I walked past Glen Eagles once. Your new place isn't that far from the old place? Was that you carrying a sofa down the street?😂 It looks like a nice, quiet place. May get noisy as they build, build, build.
the traffic on the road jalan ampang right beside the neighborhood will be another different story 😂. i think the neighborhood road can leads to u-thant? the whole area is surrounded by embassies.

Hi Taylor I am an Irish citizen considering retiring to Malaysia in 3/4 years. Does a foreigner have to buy a property there to live there permanently or can they rent only? Thank you so much for any reply. I hope you are well. Great channel too. Kind regards Gerry
Hi Taylor! Since KL is on my short list for early retirement, how long did it take you to get "keys in hand" with this new apartment once you started looking?
I'm sure your apartment and condo is very comfortable. It looks great but I couldn't live some where like this in a city with so many high rise blocks. Everything is man made. The small pieces of jungle left can't be that many. The other thing I am curious about is does any one in KL cook at home as there are so many restaurants and cafes? Does everyone eat out all the time? In recent years I have become so conscious of diet and what I am putting in my mouth because of my health that I seldom eat out now as I just cannot be sure that restaurants cafes etc use the best ingredients. I try to stay away from highly inflammatory seed oils and processed foods. I only eat OMAD around 4-5pm. I do a lot of cycling and walking. I urge you to do more swimming and walking to help you stay fit and healthy. The pool at your apartment building certainly looks a good size for a daily swim which is a big bonus. Necessary in such a warm tropical climate. How is Earl Grey settling into his new accommodation?
Omg l just watched your video of you on your bike driving through the city it made me car sick l don’t know how you can drive over there with all the crazy’s on the road 🥺
?What? ?You go to the retail area for breakfast and have to return through the garage? Sorry, that's insanity. Great pool. Thank you for the tour of your new neighborhood.
