Yuko, singer, was the catalyst for the forming of the band. Their purpose in creating the band was to bring the transitional instruments and music to the youth of Japan. All are masters of their instrument and teach. They have toured in the US and Europe and there are interview videos on YT.
I just love this band. The combination of traditional instruments and modern music complement each other very well. One of my favorite songs is “Senbonzakura”.
The flat lute is called a koto. The flute is called a shakuhachi (8-holed flute). Youko is singing in Shigin style...she is a legend among that genre of singers.

Wagakki Band is one the most talented bands all over the world. I love them from the first "sight" :) They are mixing traditional japanese instruments with modern instruments. And of course they have such beautiful Yuko's vocal. You need to check out more Wagakki Band songs. I will recomend "Senbonzakura" but you need to found live video because reactions to amazing music video often blocked on RUclips. But their lives are beautiful too. Also you can check out their collaboration with Amy Lee from Evanescence with song "Bring me to Life".

I discovered WB at the beginning of the pandemic, my playlist didn't go beyond American and european música, after them japonesese/korean /Chinese music entered in my life like a tsunami. But my first love is without a doubt Wagakki Band ❤️❤️❤️🥰

You should check out the Wagakki Band’s cover of the song “Senbonzakura”. But look for the live version from their concert in Yokohama Arena. The MV version would definitely get blocked.

They have done several anime themes. The list from myanimelist is Samurai Showdown (Sengoku Musou) open and ending, Twin Star Exorcists (Sousei no Onmyouji) opening 1, ending 1 and 6, Mars Red opening, and Holmes of Kyoto (Kyoto Teramachi Sanjou no Holmes) ending. There are other songs that have videos, but I would have to look if they were the original group, or just performing them.

"Domination" live, "Freedom" live, "Puzzle" live.........."Onset"......"Memorable"........"Influencer".......etc, etc etc. The list of superb Band-Maid songs goes on and on.
Everyone recommends this as an introduction to Wagakki Band, but I think 拍手喝采(Hakushu Kassai) is better.

Glad you got to discover Wagakki Band, especially this performance!!! There are some really amazing things going on in the Japanese rock and metal universe right now. Along with Nightwish, J-Rock is where it's at. Other bands like BAND-MAID, SCANDAL, LOVEBITES, and BABYMETAL are all highly recommended.
