Thank you for your review. If feels like everyone else was praising the game without sharing any of the drawbacks. Given what you shared, I don't feel like this is for me.
Is there a way to NOT trade shots SOME of the time, using ‘leaning out of cover’? Does leaning out of cover actually reduce incoming damage or does it contribute to stealth (get the 1st shot at the enemy/get the jump on them)?
Absolutely will be picking it up. As a gamer who fondly remembers the early pioneering games of the genre like System Shock, Syndicate/Syndicate Wars, Deus Ex etc I had to grab this. Scores seem to average in the mid seventies for PC/PS consoles and mid eighties for the Xbox machines (hmmmm, it screams ‘buy me buy me’ doesn’t it 🙄🫣) anyway, I pre-ordered even though I suspect it;ll be in the cheap bucket soon enough as I salute Night Dive for making this game.
Syndicate Wars needs a PS5 remake.
I loved thst game.
Especially when you blow up a bank and get money for upgrades.
This is a game for me. Even just to support Nightdive. If you watched this, I'd check some other reviews before writing this off. Just incredible atmosphere.
Does it have pointers of where to go? I heard it doesn’t and it’s easy to get lost is this true?
Yup, it is.
If you set mission difficulty to 1 you get the typical in game markers but they dont tell you what to do, just where to go. You need to figure out stuff on your own.
System Shock is amazing. Get it on PC because it is better to play this particular game with keyboard and mouse due to inventory. Not surprised that the reviewer didn’t care for it on console.
Glad I watched this. It’s just such a pity that Deus Ex seems to have gone bye bye. What else is there that follows this type of immersive sim genre that’s recent?
Try the Prey DLC Mooncrash if you haven't yet.
It's brilliant.
Just make sure you've played Prey first otherwise you won't have the proper context or skill set to enjoy it
Can someone please tell me how to DROP ITEMS in this game on PS5?
Everything online is about the PC version. I'm out of inventory space and I have duplicates of multiple guns just taking up all my room.
Hover over the item, press triangle to open the menu, then scroll down to the ‘drop’ option and press X. This menu is also how you vaporise junk items. Each floor also has a sort of dumb waiter type storage box that can move between the floors, but it doesn’t have much space

Just because something inspired what came after it, doesn't mean it's better or even of the same quality. Those later titles had their chance to improve on the flaws of the inspiration........... outdated flaws that like to be covered up by nostalgia.
I'll definitely get this when it's on sale.
This is a very good and sometimes unnecessarily frustrating game. I do understand why when I finished the game, only 2 percent finished it on Steam.
But truly, it's a very unique and ,when it does it right, amazing game

I'm fortunate enough to own both PS5 and XSX and I'm not at home and didn't realise this had released. So I use my apps - PS app says "PS5 version announced" but isn't available, Xbox app says "X|S version downloading now"
Do you think the PS app is wrong because the most flashy versions of System Shock are really X1X and PS4 Pro? And the PS app is missing this and being dimwitted about its presentation of the game?
I am fortunate enough to get both and realized how unnecessary to have an xbox and refund it back before return time runs out..

@@shannonbayley3684I have both consoles and barely use the PS5. I get free Gamepass Ultimate though which helps but as far as PS5 games go , the only decent game I really enjoy is Horizpn Forbidden West . Spider man 2 is a woke embarrassing disaster of a game.

I'm getting it. Soon.. Still working on Stellar Blade Platinum. Then I might do Bioshock Infinite. Bioshock + 2. Then I'll get System Shock. Never played it. Looking forward to it.

It’s not true that it is a perfect frame rate, there are minor fluctuations on both PS5 and Series. X but holds to 60 mostly on both. It does help to be totally honest as it is not a flawless frame-rate like you are making out.
Digital foundry has already proved this too.
It is such a shame about the brain dead AI in enemy encounters though as this is something that really should have been improved upon over the original.
Hopefully they take criticism on board for System Shock 2.
I am still glad this was remade in a mostly good way for console and you can use keyboard and mouse on Series X as well. Not sure about PS5?.
When I look at value for money between this and Hellblade 2 for those not on Xbox Gamepass though this is an easy victory offering around 20 hrs plus it is actually a real game and not a tech demo/ walking sim.

“immersive sim” is a meaningless genre descriptor. it means nothing. it means ‘a game that has systems in its world but is in almost every case a mediocre first person shooter.’ most of them simply aren’t well-designed games, although they’re all full of flavor text and voice recordings, if that’s what does it for you.
I agree. I loved all the Bioshocks, Prey 2017, the Dishonored series and I will buy this remake, but its undeniable the shooting part of all these games is luckluster. Imo the only one doing the combat well is the original Bioshock and Bioshock 2. I play from consoles and the controls are good, no input lag, the plasmids-weapons combo are fun to use, the guns are fun to use and sound good and there are many, many ways to kill your enemies, you can go the very optimal way of dealing with splicer which is usually boring or you can be very creative about it and the game wont punish you for it either. Only the pistol and a couple of Plasmids in Bioshock1 sucked imo, everything else was viable and fun to use. In lets say Prey2017, the only good gun was the shotgun, every other gun wasnt as good or as fun to use, if you used somenthing else other than the shotgun, it was out of necessity to save ammo for it. Like, using it on a mimic was a waste so you wrenched them to death or shot them with the shitty pistol. The other best weapon was the stun gun used to deal with humans for a no kills run and enemies weak to electricity. Bioshock also felt way less clunky and more polished. In prey you will literally die to furniture, and no, im not talking about the mimics, you literally jump on a shelf and randomly die cuz you get squashed by them somehow, or you get sent out of bounds 😂
AI in these games also usually doesnt have any intresting quirks, in Bioshock they go after healing stations if they are about to die, they fake being dead to ambush you, they go in the water if they catched fire, they kamikaze with grenades...Enemies in the games I mentioned just stand there in the open or rush you...
Idk, I don't think Dishonored can be called a shooter in the first place, so it's not meant to be the best part of the game anyway. Well, idk about 1, I've only played Dishonored 2 and loved it.
The point, and fun, of an immersive sim isn’t really about the shooting but the strategizing, exploring, and survival aspects. These are often hard games that demand you to think if you want to succeed and survive. It would be cool to have an immersive sim with top-tier shooting mechanics but it isn’t what these games are designed with in mind.

Boltgun is a very doom inspired game.
System shock inspired things like thief/dishonored franchises, bioshock, deus ex, and prey 2017.
Sounds like you just don't like this type of game.
And that’s actually a good thing. In my experience people who praise games in their reviews leave out important information that can make or break a game for you. That’s why it’s better to have a reviewer like this who gives you the positives but gives you down to earth reasons as to why they were turned off from the game. I’m tired of wasting my money because RUclipsrs wanna kiss the ass of certain franchises or games.

Well it would be. It's a more modern game. But without System Shock, you wouldn't have Prey.

I can't defend this. This looks like Doom 3 if they turned the lights up. OMG what a travesty and insult to the art of game design being more than putting the game into a relatively modern 3D engine. There is no artistic direction in this visual cluster of ducks I'm seeing. Nightdive need to offer everyone a refund for this and start again with the original director of the game in charge and if he was, he should be ashamed!
Play it. The game is excellent. I didn’t like the look of it myself, but believe me, it’s really good. The only thing I didn’t like was that it can be a little confusing where to go next.
Put it one way, I’ve waited for this remake since the day they announced it all those years ago, and I’m happy with the end product.

It feels like an update of the original. I only played the original around a friends because I never had a pc. But it’s an awful lot like I remember it. Don’t just dismiss it, pick it up on a sale or something. I really enjoyed it anyway. Hands down beats an awful lot of recent releases. My 2 favourite games last year were this remake and Dredge.
