  • I trialled using 30 lb test monofilament fishing line to try and keep deer from eating the Hazelnut trees on Gubb Farm and it did not work. The deer then ate the trees!
Fishing line fences do not "Keep Deer Out Of Your Garden FOREVER!" and no, it is not a "Cheap and Easy Deer Proof Garden Fencing using Fishing Line", or a "Low Cost Deer Fence Alternative" as it doesn't work.
I trialled it for a year and carried out repairs ensuring it was in good working order going into the winter before the rutting season. Initially, it stopped the deer, but eventually, they broke through it and damaged the trees. Once they got familiar with the fishing line, after repairs, they simply ignored it and walked straight through it.
In the video, I talk about what I plan to do at the next phase of planting to stop the deer from eating the trees. I also talk about some scenarios that fishing line might work.
