Thanks. Makes me think I might just be able to do this $$$ job myself instead of going to a $150/hr stealership where they 'cut you a deal' for $1000!

Pay special attention to the boot to airbox sealing joint area. This model has a known issue of not sealing there well and letting dirt into the engine.

Did you rebuild it because you look at the hours or did you just discovered it had not much compression anymore ?

Did you check your ring end gaps? Did the new piston come with the holes drilled to lube the exhaust port bridge area?

next time u should Thorougly wash and Detail bike to remove all dirt and crud before diassembly as you have a better chance of not acidentally letting a chunk of contaminate fall down into the bottom end as u remove the piPe so i realize u can be carful but its a great peace of mind knowing no forirgn objects are going to make thier way in legitametely or otherwise 1!!!!....lol

Anyone doing engine work on a bike without cleaning the bike and engine is foolish. Dried on mud all over the frame is a recipe for getting sand and dirt in the crankcase when the barrel is removed.

still runs to this day no issues after 14 rounds of 250b racing . bike was pressure washed before working on it.

I like when people use a wiseco pro-lite pistons and complain that they cold seized after only a few hours.... forged vs cast.
You gotta relieve the exhaust bridge and drill holes in the piston.
I always stick with pro-x or vertex for that reason

On certain year models you do. My 01 doesn’t need it because there isn’t an exhaust bridge. The 02’s definitely had them though. He definitely should have drilled that piston.

Is that good to do for older vintage bikes? I'm in process of rebuilding my top end on my cr250r

Dude, you should have hosed the mud off before tearing the engine down

Is that a pro-lite piston? You have to drill the exhaust side

On certain year models you have to drill the piston to relieve the exhaust bridge on pro lite pistons. Thankfully I don’t have to do it on my 01 cr 250 because there is no exhaust bridge but I believe the 02’s had the bridge. He definitely should have drilled it. Also, some of those cylinder studs looked to be in questionable shape lol.
