    Many of you guys have suggested that Faye went out for weeks to mark they way for Kratos and Atreus and I can't believe I forgot about that. But this still doesn't explain how she does, so all add marking the way to my idea of her being injured in a battle 😉

      Kuba, any thoughts on Faye returning in GOW5? Since K and A spread her ashes
      amongst a giant gravesight, could it be possible that her spirit ends up joining them or assisting with a revived armada of giants almost parallel to the events in the Greek panthogy to prepare and escort them through Asgard to the battle with Odin? Crazy thought

      I think she knew she had to die because she died before. When Kratos battled and killed his version of the fates, he traveled back in time and then got time traveling abilities. When Kratos and Boy fight the Norns (Past, Present and Future), my theory is Loki will be sent back in time, without his memories and be adopted by Odin. He will trick the builder, play is role in Moljnir's creation, give birth to his four children, etc. Then he will get his memory back, meet his mother and tell her of his journey and his father. I think they're stuck in a loop and Kratos (killing his own fates and being unbound by it) will help break the cycle.

Also Kratos has many many years of experience when it comes to combat. I believe he would know if Faye was sick from a wound as he may have seen comrades fall from such wounds during his spartan years.

    Your theory is highly plausible and, in fact, it goes kinda well with my own about her: Faye will turn out to be the real main villain of the whole norse saga, much like Athena was during the greek saga.
    Why am I saying so? It's kinda....twisted, but please bear with me. What do we know about Faye? She's a Jotunn, she's the guardian of Jotunheim and basically the champion of her own kin, much like what Thor is in the real world mythology. The protector of giants. We also know that in Jotunheim, where Kratos and Atreus spread her ashes to the wind, there are a lot of murals depicting the very same journey that father and son just faced, and they're most likely centuries old. Now we have the basics, let's delve deeper:
    Being the guardian of Jotunheim, Faye shared a common purpose with the other Jotnar: the demise of the Aesirs. At some poit it was predicted that a Jotunn named Loki would've been the very cause of the beginning of Ragnarok, which would've marked the end of the Aesir gods. It was also predicted that Faye would've been the mother of this child, and that an ashen warrior (Kratos) would've been his father. At some point after Kratos made it to the realm of Midgard she met him and imediately recalled of the prophecy of him being fated to be the father of Loki, the harbinger of Ragnarok. And this is where my theory and yours meet: she fought on Jotunheim not because she wanted to win or anything, but because she knew that eventually she would've been wounded in such a way it would've caused her death. So prioor to this she marked the trees she wanted to be used for her pyre, which in return lifted the magic barrier preventing Odin from spotting her and thus allowing Baldur to track her down. And this is all part of the plan: she knew that Baldur would've been involved and that the following events would've marked his demise, effectively starting Ragnarok. Her request to be taken to Jotunheim after her death wasn't for her wish for Atreus and Kratos to bond, neither the will to be with her people, but only due to the fact that she knew that pursuing that quest they would've clashed with Baldur, eventually killing him.
    The mural depicting Kratos death does not only show the most obvious thing, but also another detail: Atreus (hence Loki) giving birth to Jormungandr, as you can clearly see the magic coming out of his mouth, in the shape of a huge snake. If I'm correct, Faye knew that from her death the course of events would've been shaped to eventually come to that conclusion, so ultimately she didn't marry Kratos and bore his child because she loved him but to fulfill the prophecy and start Ragnarok.
    It's true: there are characters talking about her being just, kind and compassionate, such as Brok, Sindri and Mimir, but all of them hold a distinct grudge against the Aesirs and have all the reasons to speak ill of them. Moreover, most of the stories we hear about them come from either Faye herself or the aforementioned characters, mostly Mimir, so it might be possible that we heard only one side of the story. You might argue that there's a labor where you meet a spirit angered at Thor for killing his mother in a drunken rage, but then again that's only a part of the story, and the spirit clearly tell us that Thor himself came to them to give his condolences for her worshipper.

  • @polybius3765
    @polybius3765 2 года назад +14

    At first I thought her death could have been related to Atreus' earlier sickness. That Faye had to do something that sacrificed herself to cure him such as magically taking the illness into her own body or by paying a mystical price to remove it. There is not much evidence for this since Atreus' does also get sick during the game events. It may not be the same illness brought on by his inner conflict as it was earlier in his life. I do think that would add an interesting dynamic and perhaps be a factor in why Kratos is initially so distant from him.

  • @mdrw13

    My only problem with these theories is that yes, while time distortions can be used to travel in time, time dilation shouldn't allow time travel. You go to jotunheim and a week passes outside, doesn't mean someone can access future jotunheim by waiting outside. So either Ragnarok has happened or will happen.
    It is possible that besides traveling to jotunheim the gate Kratos and Atreus went through, either through the Unity Stone or some other means is now different and besides the normal time dilation can also be programmed for specific times, via for example Mimir's eyes, the black rune, etc... something they left beind for Kratos and Boi to find, and therefore it isn't a normal phenomenon.
    I think either Ragnarok is divided into 2 phases the aesir won the 1st and now time manipulation will bring about the true result via time manipulation in a "You can't fight fate" kind of way, OR There was a future ragnarok which happened normally, but the addition of Kratos to this timeline via Faye's influence, because of receiving visions from/about the first Ragnarok, made her change the future by acting differently.
    Basically
    Ragnarok->New Visions->This Timeline->New Visions->Different timeline
    Everytime you see the future and act to avoid it, the prophecies and visions in the past change to match the new series of events and therefore the people in the past with different information take different actions, therefore creating an infinite Ragnarok loop until people stop messing with future sight, It is like the time machine paradox that dictates that eventually the only stable timelines would be ones where time travel does not exist anymore.

      I would like to add a correction here. I agree about the time dilation but everybody is forgetting that Odin was basically on the hunt for the giants and he wanted to kill them because giants were close to equal to the aesir gods and refused to worship them as they wanted. This is the reason Tyr helped them hide the jotunheim tower in the 'lake of the 9 realms' or whatever that lake is called. They wanted to evade their extinction from Odin and Thor's hands but eventually they failed and Thor or Odin got to jotunheim and killed all the giants. I feel faye was fighting them, she saw they are losing the war, she got mortally wounded and that's when she started marking path. She returned home telling she was injured during hunting and then succumbing to her wounds, she died. Or it is also possible that kratos would've known that she was fighting a war and she would've taken promise from kratos of to not get involved in this and take care of their son as he was the only parent. She probably didn't even tell the details out of which half of them kratos comes to know at the end of the journey that faye was a giant and odin and thor hated and killed giants. So in short, Ragnarok didn't exactly happened but WILL happen later on. Also there are specific signs before the beginning of ragnarok like the death of baldur, the start of 3 year long winter or fimbulwinter and loki will be the catalyst for ragnarok and pretty much both events we witnessed in GOW4.

    • @abhibhoir027
      @abhibhoir027 4 года назад +2

      Also, another theory I feel is that at the end we see murals on the wall depicting the journey of atreus/loki and kratos. Then there is the last mural where we see someone die and loki crying beside. I feel that a fight might take place between Thor and Kratos and kratos might die. So in anger for killing his father, loki just might end up causing ragnarok and probably kratos may end up in helheim getting a peaceful/chaotic (it depends) afterlife. Later on we also might se kratos coming back from helheim probably at the end.

    • @alexseguin5245
      @alexseguin5245 3 года назад

      The way I understand it, the timeline is cyclical, and would only make sense if Ragnarok happens at the same time for all realms. If time doesn't elapse at the same rate in all realms, that means that Ragnarok happens quicker or slower from your perspective if you live in one realm or another. If Ragnarok happens every thousand years in Midgard, then it would happen every few years in Jotunheim, which would explain why we still see the corpses of the giants from the previous Ragnarok.

  • @BattleTroll

    After playing Ragnarok I’m convinced Faye isn’t actually dead. The “soul magic” introduced in GoWR opens up the possibility that her soul is no longer present in her body but could be inhabiting some other vessel. This may have been necessary due to some significance of her ashes being scattered in Jotunheim ( they effing glowed! There’s something there). I’m surprised this wasn’t explained in GoWR, though I expect we’ll learn more in a stand-alone Atreus game. Faye being alive would also help explain the “dreams” Kratos has throughout GoWR where Faye is seemingly communicating with him. And… AAAAAANNNDDD I’m calling it now, you heard it here first… Faye blew the horn!

    For kratos its takes us a few days or so but for Faye, doing some 4D chess, trying to piece together when and where they needed to go for the journey must have taken a while, and maybe at the end of that journey when she goes to jotunheim she did fight, or maybe she sees the dead giants and thats what makes her sad, or maybe its reversed, she has the battle in jotunheim and then backtracks all the steps needed to get there for Kratos and Atreus.

As far as I understood it Faye already knew everything that was going to happen (e.g: her death, death of all the Giants, Kratos and Atreus Journey) before she even met Kratos. I think Cory also confirmed this in the interview with IGN or Easy Allies where he said that the Yellow markings around the map were all drawn by Faye way before she met Kratos. So she would have already known everything.
    That being sad I think she was just sad that she had to leave her family? I mean wouldn´t you be sad if you knew you are going to die and never see your family again and your family loosing you and never being able to see you again?

She had seen the prophecy of Kratos and Atreus in Jotunheim, so she knew that in order for them to leave their home and start all the things that lead to Ragnarok she would have to die. She knew that her part was over, and it was time for Atreus to step up and become the Champion of the Giants. Her death does not make sense if you just sit there and think about. She was a Valkyre they are essentially live forever unless directly killed and even then they can be resurrected. She was a incredibly powerful magic user, had the deep love of the dwarves and as far as we know the giants.
    The protective ring around their land in the beginning only dissipated when the tree she marked was cut down. Meaning nobody could of poisoned her or killed her, and someone would have to know they where there to use magic to kill her and who knows if that would of even worked with the protective spell she cast.
    The reality as far as I can see it is that Kratos is the only thing that could/would kill her and that doesn't make sense either because you can tell he loved her deeply and cares about Atreus. Ragnorok is going to have so many huge revelations and I cannot wait.

    I'm pretty sure her time away was probably her laying out the path ahead of Kratos and Artreus. She probably looked unwell because she knew it was time and obviously felt sad that it meant she would be leaving Kratos and her son. As for why/how she died, I don't think her dying naturally can be ruled out but I do think there's more to her time gone than we're led on. For one, we still don't really know why she was in Midgard (probably to find a father to Loki) but I think there could be more to it. When Kratos lays her to rest he says "you can go home." He knew she was from a far away land and from the sounds of it, she told him that she couldn't return. Something, if the case, we can only speculate as to why. My theory is that whilst Jormanganr was sent back in time, perhaps other giants experience time backwards, or none chronologically, at least, (wouldn't be that big shocker given their powers of prophecy and Mimir even illustrating this very idea when talking about many of the murals or Ragnarok) and she is already aware of Jotunheim's destruction. Thinking about it, it could be something to do with her eyes though. If she had glowing yellow eyes, I feel like Kratos would've caught on that she wasn't a mortal. No runic eyes, no traveling to Jotunheim.

    I think one of the reasons she was gone for weeks is next to that she knows what is coming she needed the time to put a the markings up for kratos and atreus so they would follow the right path. See it as docter strange looking at all the possible outcomes. She knew this would be the only way for them to win against the gods like thor and odin and the fall of ragnerok by changing enough in the past to change the future. While she lost the battle in this life, its the only way to win it for the future. Its a sacrifice to change the past so the future will go different. Not just for her husband and son but for her people. Those carved stone ruïnes in the land of the giants wasnt made for kratos and atreus but actually for the giants. She told her people (the giants) not to fear because one day a man and a boy will save all of them from the battle of ragnerok. Its like a prophecy she told the giants and she would be the only sacrifice to save all of them

    Kratos has once said that she fought beautifully,then Sindri stated that she was a fierce warrior these are two strong indications that Faye was possibly on par with Thor or possibly stronger than him. I believe she died of old age cause if you remember one of the panels in Tyr's temple had a Giant name Bergelmir who actually died of old age. Faye could have been one of his many children,it would make sense since she is the guardian of Jotunheim and why she was talking to the Giants when Kratos and Atreus were looking at the carvings of them.

I don’t think that “ragnarok” has happened in jotunheim but I believe that the Aesir has found their way into jotunheim and fought with the giants in a battle leading to giants death. that makes more sense because ragnarok is meant to destroy all worlds so that another world can rise from the ashes of these worlds and because of the fact that this battle between giants and Aesir did not have an impact on any of the worlds (except for jotunheim obviously)
    I believe that this battle was not ragnarok. sorry for my long comment😅

Keep in mind the World Serpent has been around for a while in the Lake of Nine, and when we see him for the first time, the water level is as tall as the torso of the statue on top of Týr's Temple. I don't see Faye diving to paint markings underwater (and I doubt she even could paint anything underwater, it would dry-up, DUH). Those must've been made long even before she met Kratos.
    There are markings in places like Týr's Vault, which has been locked with special keys for A LOOOONG WHILE. The most logical explanation is that Týr was involved in her mission, at some level, and let her enter his vault and Reversed-Temple even before the Jotunheim Tower was phased off.

If there were other ways in, then what was with everything just to get the Jotunheim gate back when we could have gone the same way Faye did? Faye being gone weeks at a time could have just been her marking out the paths for Kratos and Atraus, because all those yellow marks had to have taken a while. Her death probably happened on one of these excursions, ran into Thor or someone, and knowing it was her time took the hit but slipped away somehow (maybe a world tree door) back the the safety of home where she said it was a monster attack and slowly died.

    You ever think about how perhaps the Giants also wanted Atreus dead? When Kratos and Atreus read the Jotunheim murals, it states in the book that Faye is depicted as pregnant, when she's shown arguing with the giants, it could mean that she was adamant about staying in Midgard, but it could also mean that the Giants were angry with her that she mated with another God, Kratos. The last time a God(Odin) produced a child with a Giantess(Fjörgyn), Thor happened, and that brutalized the population of Giants. Perhaps the Giants feared that Atreus would bear the same mark of a killer and wanted him dead, and why Faye used protections runes that prevented both Aesir and Jotunfolk from being near her family. Just a thought, I'm not sure if there were other half god and half giants mentioned in the game.

    Firstly I agree with some of the comment below in how time distortion doesn’t equate to time travel. So I have a theory that may make some sense, Faye predicted they would lose the battle of ragnarock in the future so to prevent this she got some wolves to bring Kratos to Midgard in doing this she believed they would have the extra power to win. Faye was captured and tortured for information by Odin who wished to enter the realm of the giant to prevent ragnarock from happening by killing all the giants. In the original time line she never gave Odin this information causing ragnarock to happen 100s of years later however now being a mother she feared they would track Loki down from her tracks and kill him causing her to give Odin a third way to enter the realm of the giants
    Now in the real of the giants the gods killed all of them preventing ragnarock from happening. While Faye was being tortures she may have said something like Kratos will kill you all which would have made Odin believe there was one left. Odin believing there was still one giant alive and tasked bolder to track him down and kill him
    I think this would explain a few issues you have mention within the game without time travel being needed. For how all the giant will return in the realm of the elves may have what we need to bring a soul back to life. This does have its own issues but could work.
