  • Andor, a spy thriller from Lucasfilm filmed over two 12-episode seasons, takes place five years before the events of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.” The era featured in “Andor” is filled with danger, deception, and intrigue, where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero. “Andor” presents Star Wars from a different perspective, focusing on everyday people whose lives are affected by the Empire. The decisions they make have real consequences, and the stakes for them-and the galaxy-couldn’t be higher.

I think one of the most fascinating character journeys--which isn't really going unnoticed, but maybe the full implications aren't--is that Mon Mothma, while trying to start a rebellion, is still trying to use the system the way it's meant to be used to solve these problems. And the thought-provoking question is what do people of conscience do when they've played by the rules and nobody is listening?

Kino had to be bullied, cajoled and persuaded to break out and only did so when it became clear there was only one choice, one way out you could say. That's not a heroic act it's made out to be. And Kino had to be cajoled into making a more forceful speech by Cassa.
The real heroes of the prison break are Cassa and Birnok, who planned and executed the break. Cassa used Kino to help him him 'rally' the other prisoners but they already knew what to do, to insinuate otherwise would be incredibly insulting,

They are ALL heroes including Cass, Birnok AND Kino.

@@PaulMcElligott He needs not to know if Luthen knew about the ambush. That will still look very suspicious (not even for someone as paranoid as Saw), considering how hard he tried to "sell" that cooperation with Kreegar. Now he might think he was being set up.

I have always, always, always equated Star Wars with space WWII. After seeing the more well known side of things (Axis and Allies) in the films, we’re finally, FINALLY getting the resistance fighters. The French, Belgian, Polish, and German Undergrounds. Lives will always be sacrificed for the greater cause. Fifty men here, 100 men there. Real “The good of the many outweighs the good of the few. Or the one.” type shit. Brilliant.

Ive been thinking about it why i love this show so much and this episode settle it, we are learning the stories of the heroes behind the heroes, to have a Luke, Leia, Han, there was Andor, Mitch, Lony, Vel, Cinthia people who gave everything not knowing they would succeed or not, sacrificing for something most of them would never see, so tell me whats more Star Wars than that?
For the first time a couple of civilians with no lightsabers or powers made a vow to defy an empire they paved the way fought through darkness for the last jedi to end it all, how poetic is that and how this opens our eyes for the whole triology when the rebels are a well oiled machine, this show made me love Star wars again.

6:17 "This is how the rich get richer, y'all." Absolutely correct. And he's also right about Mom Matha is being courted in this moment by the "Dark Side." Luthern has already been seduced by the Dark Side (hence his symbolic attire). The only thing is that they are not force-sensitive, but the Dark Side is about PERSONAL enslavement. Andor was tempted by the Dark Side to kill the two men in the courtroom, but he chose at that moment to spare them. Their motivations may be good, but the personal cost...is it worth it? Man this is a great show!

I think another thing that’s so great about Kino’s arc is that if you re-watch this episode you see in the subtext that Kino knows he’s not going to make it out alive because he knows the only way out is one he can’t survive but he also knows he is the only man who can lead this jailbreak. Regardless, he gets to free his fellow kin and die on his own terms. Pour one out for this unsung hero of the rebellion.

Luthen reminds me of the Operative from the Serenity movie. Both men allow themselves to become monsters in the service of something greater. Luthen chose correctly, the Operative didn't. That's the only distinction.

Luthen’s view point on letting the 50 men go reminds of a scene from “Imitation Game” - a movie about WWII code breaking. To keep the nazi’s from knowing the allies had broken their communication network, they had to let some bad things happen. A rough series of decisions

The reframing of all of SW is the true power of Andor. It goes from a space opera about space wizards and stuff to very stark warning against fascism, the banality of its evil and how, once good people have been complacent for long enough, it takes sacrifice of epic proportions to get out from under it. And it is warning addressed to us today.

    "And what do you sacrifice?"
    "Calm.
    Kindness, kinship.
    Love.
I've given up all chance at inner peace.
I've made my mind a sunless place.
I share my dreams with ghosts.
I wake up every day to an equation I wrote 15 years ago from which there's only one conclusion; I'm damned for what I do.
My anger, my ego, my unwillingness to yield, my...my eagerness to fight, they've set me on a path from which there is no escape.
I yearned to be a savior against injustice without contemplating the cost and by the time I looked down, there was no longer any ground beneath my feet.
What is my...what is my sacrifice?
I'm condemned to use the tools of my enemy, to defeat them.
I burn my decency for someone else's future.
I burn my life to make a sunrise that I know I'll never see.
And the ego that started this fight will never have a mirror or an audience or the light of gratitude.
    So what do I sacrifice?
    Everything!"

So I don’t know if you guys are aware but Duncan Pow, he plays as Meishi (I didn’t have time to spellcheck so forgive me if it’s wrong), he reprised his role as this character from rouge one. I was re watching rouge one and you can see him in the last act of the movie. The raid on scarif to be exact. I even did some credits digging and you can see the character’s name as sergeant meishi. So that’s why the ending of this episode is so crucial to the story leading up to rouge one. So we just got a glimpse of this character’s backstory within Andor. And with that revelation alone gives me hope for the future of Star Wars. Like the Heroes said, I want a Lonni backstory now as well.

Fun fact, the guy that Andor ends up running with on the beach at the end is actually a character from Rogue One. He ends up being one of the team members on the beach who help steal the death star plans. It's the same actor/same character. Very cool continuity. (real)
Almost continuity as cool as the fact that Kino is then captured by the empire, tortured until he loses his mind, his memory and his identity, only to discover long dormant force powers where he assumes the new moniker.....snoke

Also think Andor heads for his mother and last episode is a big battle there where Luthen saves Andor but we lose Cinta, Vel, and others.
Mon Mothma ends on the Ghost and the rebellion grows in season 2
