During Maarva's speech you see Luthen finally see all his efforts beginning to come to fruition, and that simple expression of his lips tightening is him vindicated
i think he realises that Casian does not need to be killed, because he knows rebellion courses through his veins passed down from his mother. (who he sees deliver a speech verbatim with his own ideology) He returns to his ship after deciding Andor does not need to be killed as he'll never give the empire what they want and when he gets there, and Casian says what he does he's taken back by his equal skills as a spy and smiles because he was right about him.
Completely agree, but I think this may be the first time he's seeing the results of his actions in person and the effect it has on the people in Ferrix. He's seeing, first hand, the cost of sacrifice. And I think it unsettles him. I'm sure he was relieved in many ways when Cassian gave him the option to take him in. Enough bloodshed for one day.
Man that moment is what hit me the hardest, his little expression of vindication, he found someone else who understand his entire life decision to the very core of its idea. It was confirmation to him that his decisions and goals is something that is felt by others throughout the galaxy
Well, I'd say he was displaying his understanding of the cost of what he's set in motion... The death and suffering that many must endure as a result to regain their freedoms whilst he stands back and pulls the strings.
You misinterpreted the ending: There is no cliffhanger; Cassian says "Kill me or Take me in" meaning take me into the Rebellion. Luthen smiles saying "You're in". Perfect ending.
@@scrappytracy5557 It wouldn't shock me if they didn't even notice. I don't mean this as a 'knock' on them, but these guys are more concerned about talking during the reaction than actually watching the show. They spend the whole episode making connections that don't make sense or rambling about all the things that could be happening instead of just watching what is actually happening.
@@SonicBoyster Actually, if you scroll through the comments, they’ve since posted about this whole thing, as so many people have commented about it. They did see everything Andor said.
This show is what I’ve always wanted from Star Wars. Something more adult, something more serious, something more well thought out. It’s blown by my expectations. I salute you Mr. Gilroy 🫡🙌
How about a reboot of Stars Wars into this style with the Jedi having a samurai story. Mysterious, adventurous and tragic. The empire and rebellion like it is in this series dark and raw. This series is so immersive it pulls you in because its not about big effects and explosions but the politics, death, fear and survival. No force powers to save you.
Yes, I think the Star Wars fandom is ready for the long form character and story arcs that is evolved from Lucas's original 13 year old boy/serialized approach. Nothing against the movies, and other shows (love it all). I'm ok with the YA aspect of some other titles, but as long as things tie together that is important to me too. But I'd love-LOVE-more content that is adult focused and edgier, appropriate, but edgier.
I just realized the Band players for the funeral playing unharmoniously at the start when they are practicing then playing together is a analogy for the independent rebel cells acting on their own before they form the rebellion
There are a lot of symbolism in this show, like for an example people complained about how the heist members used AK-47. It was intentional. IRL, AK-47 is a popular firearms among rebels/insurgents.
Brasso starting the riot by clocking imperials with Maarva's brick was just the best. His character is such an underrated part of the show. That actor is damn good. I hope we see more of him next season and in other things.
LITTLE AWESOME DETAIL: when Cassian avoid getting catch on the tower, he actually did what Luthen told him when they first met.... "Rule number one: Build your exit on your way in". Just awesome. What a show.... Respect to the all the actors even the secondary ones, still made us so emotional during this season.
That was rule #2, but what’s really great is that he used the tunnel into the hotel that Maarva dug up in an earlier episode because “the rebellion will need it”
Yeah he simply gave Luthen a choice, whose answer was clear as day when he smirked. It wasn't a depressive statement nor a cliffhanger ending at all. They might've missed the dialogue from all the talking.
Fantastic! Maarva lit a fuse right in front of Luthen while he was trying to clean up his "loose end". For once, he wasn't in control and pulling all the strings, and it was fascinating watching his reaction.
I pretty much cried all the way through the second half of this episode. It was so emotionally draining. And what’s with all of these epic speeches?! I was ready to storm the beaches by the time Maarva was done. And can I just say that the people of Ferrex obviously love B2 as much as the rest of us do, since his abuse was the spark that ultimately kicked it all off. I loved every second and everything about this show. Brilliant job, Tony Gilroy. Brilliant.
That bastard flipping B2 hurt as much as that storm trooper hitting Grogu. I legit stood up when that happened ready to whoop that dudes ass. One of the best shows this year and can’t wait for season 2.
@@martinjrgensen8234 yes, that too. But great actors need great material. Just think how Andor has demonstrated how utterly wasted Stellan Skarsgard's talents were in the MCU. Because they only gave his character bland exposition lines there.
@@martinjrgensen8234 There have always been phenomenal actors in all of the star wars films, but the majority of them have felt like B list actors, because of the god awful dialog. I wish all the films/tv shows had such amazing dialog
@@memento81 this. The reason other Star Wars stays afloat is because of the good actors holding up bad dialogue. Now with good actors and good dialogue it’s all coming together. I know I’m replying to you specifically but it’s more for the conversation as a whole lol.
I think Vel just isn't as hate filled as Cinta is, I don't think she even wants to kill Cassian, so seeing Cinta that focused bothers her. And Cassian at the end was "yea kill me if that's what you see, a loose end. Or bring me in, make me a part of this because i'm all in." This show is amazing, the manifesto is just full of truths. "Authority is brittle, oppression is the mask of fear"
Vel throughout the season realizes being part of a rebel network and having a relationship isnt working - smiliar to Mon Mothma. They hint at it several times when its told to her that the cause comes first by people she cares for. Beside a relationship already is difficult with Cinta being a total ice-cold killer thanks to the empire killing her family. ^^
It’s exactly his own thoughts in the prison, what he said himself to Kino to inspire him. The manifesto clarified everything he’s been feeling since Kenari.
@@Philipp3022 yeah by the end of this im forsure Cinta murdered that whole imperial family during the Aldhani heist I think is why she walked away with such a blank look on her face as they could identify all of them
This show did not just elevate Rogue One and Episode IV: ANH, it elevated the whole Star Wars lore and made it even better. I’m already on a binge-watch.
It took me a minute, I also thought "is he depressed? Wants to die?" ... But I think that's not it... He is ready for the rebellion and ready to die for it. He is ready to be a rebel
I took it to be that Andor was showing that he was serious, that him joining the cause isn’t just some trick or scam because he literally gives Luthen the gun and gives him an easy way to tie up the loose end he initially came there for.
25:26 did you guys miss the "or take me in" part? Cassian is offering himself to the rebellion and Luthen realizes he actually cares about the cause. It's not really a cliffhanger. Pretty obvious Luthen accepted him.
I feel like we have to repeat this all the time - We watch the show with subtitles, so we know he says "...or take me in." You're watching a cut down . Just because it's not in the edit doesn't mean we didn't see it. Yeah, obviously Cassian lives. As Agustin said - "clearly" - It's a cliffhanger ending of sorts because it's left ambiguous as to what happens with characters like B2, Bixx and Brasso, what the events of Ferrix mean for the Empire, particularly Dedra and Syril, what taking Cassian into the Rebellion means for the overall story. Just because we know that Rogue One happens doesn't mean the road to getting there doesn't have it's own hurdles, otherwise it would be boring storytelling to tell a very linear narrative without consequence. "Take me in" doesn't only have to mean "to your Rebellion." It could also means, "to the Empire" and let them have their way with me if you think I'm a liability to your plans. That's a risky proposition because the Empire could then find out more about the formation of the Rebellion, so Luthen could've then decided - Yes, I'll take you in (to my team). We're exploring all the possible narrative options the dialogue is giving us and not just - "well, he's in Rogue One so he must mean Luthen's team and that's the only option ever". And yes, there is an end credit scene. Keep watching until the end.
Only one word can be used to describe this show, MASTERPIECE! I can’t remember the last time a show made me hold my breath from anticipation this many times throughout a season. And I’m completely with Cassian, if my mother gave that speech with that much heart at her funeral I would fight the Empire to my dying breath! If this show isn’t nominated in damn near every category at the next Emmy’s of BAFTA’s then no one deserves to be nominated.
I love that even without Wilmon's bomb, or Maarva's speech, just the fact that the people of Ferrix said "Fuck you!" to the Empire by maintaining their tradition, and not rescheduling for them is a great act of rebellion. Every action like that, however small, moves the needle.
Brasso had told B2 earlier that the Daughters needed the droid's help. Obviously the Daughters, at least, had heard Maarva's speech and were preparing a minor act of resistance. If the Imperial governor had let them finish the ceremony, that might have been the extent of their resistance that day. Wilmar might have even thought twice about his bomb. But, yes, even that much would have moved the needle. It's likely that Dedra will be able to pin the debacle on the Imperial governor, since he directly sparked the riot.
Give everyone in this show a god damn emmy. Cast, crew, vfx, catering .etc. What a special show. Cant wait for s2. Thank you guys for giving us gr8 rxns. Made the rewatches so much fun.
- if I could do it again I’d wake up early and be fighting these bastards from the start. Fight the empire!” Probably one of the most inspiring speeches in Star Wars. I felt like throwing one of my stormtrooper action figures
Even better, I looked back and the kyber crystal that Luthen gave Andor was a "sky stone" made to honor the fight against the Rakatan Infinite Empire. It was always stone and sky.
I guess I don't feel that was a cliffhanger ending at all. Seemed to wrap things up very nicely. And of course Cassian knew that Luthen would not stop going after him, and would not believe he was willing to join the cause unless he offered up his life as an alternative. You could see that Luthen was affected by Marva's speech, so he was already softened to the idea that this was the woman who raised this man, and passed along her ideas to him, so I think Luthen already sort of felt that maybe killing Andor wasn't the best option.
Same. Im excited for season 2 but this feels like a perfect ending that can still meld right into Rogue One. It solves its major issues it presented. This season shows how he fully joins a part of the Rebellion with close ties to Mon Mothma. Can easily see how he works closer with them. And even with Mothma, she solved the problem she had. Her joining her daughter with a gangster is less suspicious with saying her gambling husband is sneaking money away and giving a story of why money is gone and back. Its brilliant.
Same, when u think about it season one was like levelling up of the characters, cuz if noticed syril ends up with dedra, cassian ends up with luthen, spark of rebellion has started, mon mothma got around the funding and has no more problems with money, so season 2 will be all out. Cant wait 🔥
There are 100% cliff hangers from previous setups for characters. For example, there are obvious setups in us seeing Mon Mothma having a massive character development as not only a founder but powerful figure in the Rebel Alliance. The have setups for a 2nd season and it is most likely going to conclude when the Rebel Alliance is in full swing and the masks are off. Andor is not just about Cassian, but a show about the birth of the Alliance.
The only thing not wrapped up per se is what started the show, the search for Andor's sister. Possible spoiler***** Don't scroll further unless.. . While Cassian was taken from his home by Maarva, the rest of the children were taken and raised by the empire in a nazi like youth program. One of those children fully embraced the indoctrination dyes her hair blonde and takes the name Deedra. She is Cassian's sister in a classic Star Wars "I AM YOUR FATHER!" plot twist.
This show has everything I've been missing in Star Wars TV shows. My heart races and I hold my breath in equal parts dread and eager anticipation. So many subtle things that come out upon repeated viewings. The crowd in the front of the funeral procession are wearing orange work outfits. My first thought was how they looked like xwing pilots in orange! Only the first rebellion dude's were huge men all brute strength and rage filled. No blasters but lethal in mass. It was an amazing unforgettable scene.
The thing that is going to stick with me the most about season 1 of Andor is the writing. It had some of the best character interactions and monologues out of any show or movie I've ever seen. Not once during this show did I wish for a big space battle or light sabre fight. A simple conversation between two characters was more gripping than any action sequence.
he did not created the weapon, Galen Erso did, Cassian only, forced to build some interlocking couplings. SW universe already has enough cruel irony, it doesn't need us see what is not there.
To be fair, you could also look at the situation that Andor helps destroy the weapon he was forced to help construct … I think the writers meant for it to be a more heroic rather than tragic arc …
I'd like to point out that Gilroy and crew made a *Marching Band* the single most threatening expression of rebellion in Star Wars in the last 20 years at least.
Tony Gilroy already confirmed that there will be a one year time jump. I love how he doesn't make it a big secret or whatever, he is so confident in that show! He doesn't need to be secretive about the silliest stuff, he doesn't need to put cameos in the show or trailer for people to watch and stay tuned, he and his team simply created an amazing show and that's it. Now that they made that first season without any shortcuts, they earned the right to bring in cameos, if they wanted to. That's a thing Mandalorian did pretty good as well, they wrote a standalone story, made it strong enough to stand on its own feet and when that worked, they brought in cameos in season 2, which worked great since we already had establish our main characters. I'm so happy about this show man!
@@betaich I wouldn't think so. I would say a camo is when the main point of a scene is "Look at this character" But the scenes with Saw are primary about Luthen, showing us how he is connected to the wider rebel alliance, his role as a facilitator and his goal to unify the rebel cells together as well as the issues he faces because those rebel cells don't like each other "Separatists!, Cultist!" You would want to show that even if you didn't include Saw and having Luthen talk to another rebel organization is a very easy and organic way to do that, so you would likely end up creating a character that was very similar to Saw anyway.
@@betaich the thing about asohka and Bo Katan is both of them feel like characters from another story. a part of this is the story structure of the Mandalorian which is very episodic and has a lot of characters show up for one or two episodes and then vanish. but even then they are completely chance encounters, the camera lingers on their first reveal to play up who they are and they never really given a reason to tie them to the plot for an extended time whereas Saw benefits from being tied into the plot by both his internal motivation (fighting the empire is going to lead him into the "season 3" Rouge One) and by his personal relationship with Luthen. He is an important foil to Luthen and I think We'll see him being very important in season 2 with Andor being more involved with the rebels.
@@betaich Andor is the prequel to Rogue One. So Saw appearing wasn't that big kind of Cameo. I mean Gilroy put many deep subtle easter eggs into the show but like he himself said when he tries to do this for SW fans it shouldnt be random just for the purpose of fan service but needs to directly fit in the story and makes sense. Saw's partisans was one of the earliest rebel cells which fits into a espionage thriller exploring the birth of the rebellion.
What a beautiful journey for this character! Cassian starts the show performing what is seen as an act of rebellion while trying to find his sister and reclaim some semblance of a normal life. Luthen’s first meeting with Cassian involves essentially begging him to, “fight those bastards for real,” but Cassian only agrees to help for the money and still wants to cash out after one job and make a life for him and Marva. And by the end, after Marva’s last words echoed Luthen’s plea that he fight those bastards, Cassian finally comes to the same place where Luthen is and accepts the fight without promise of reward or respite.
Interesting observation; Turns out Mon Mothma's desperate solution she tearfully tells Vel last episode is to not only match-up her daughter to a thug's son, but to also blame the banking red-flag on her husband's _*gambling*._ Yowch. Gambling is paralleled with Andor when he tells the escape pilot, "All in." And for Luthen, he wins the jackpot by witnessing Marvaa's open incitement to rebellion and Andor's commitment to the cause.
Cassian's evolution as a leader Ep. 3 Needed to be saved by Luthien Ep. 4-6 Paid attention to the small details and fixed potential problem, i.e. who should be on the right and left when marching. Ep. 8-10 KIno made the speech, but only because the other prisoners already saw him as someone with authority, but Cassian was giving orders in his workgroup early on and made the escape plan. Ep. 12 Giving orders to his friends in a strong, positive manner. He stopped and praised B2 for being a stalwart friend.
i have never screamed so much. it was so palpable! Maarva's speech sent me! Bix sent me. and i HONESTLY sat there hoping that that young man got to live peacefully to a ripe old age because he [and the rest of them] have been through enough.
So the irony is that Cassian was building the thing that would eventually kill him. it is also even more ironic that Cassian was building the thing that he would eventually destroy
One of my favorite little things in this is the "try" from Nemik's manifesto. It's the opposite of the advice Yoda gives Luke and it's what all the rebels have to choose. They have to choose to try. This show was perfect for me. Wildly excited for season 2.
Loved the marching band music score and everything from the first second of episode 1 right thru to the last second of episode 12. BRAVO! Gilroy Bros, the Cast, ILM, and all the magic film technicians that made this the best dam television ever!
29:09 i'm from malaysia, wishing all well. i am literally missed this postcredit scene and thanks for the reminder. for me, in terms of entertainment and rebellion at its best, director nailed it. season 1 is a success in terms of build up, funding for all techs and keeping in shape. 10/10. different level of drama
Cassian helped build the weapon that will end up killing him, but ultimately he'll die trying to take them down rather than dying giving them what they want.
Both speeches in this episode gave me so many goosebumps, Maarva's had me tearing up too. Loved this show easily one of my favorites from 2022, seeing your reactions and hearing your thoughts each week made it even more enjoyable too. Thanks guys, here's to s2!
Gilroy builds tension like a maestro and we dance to his steampunk marching band tune. Superb show and in my mind the best SW show every made for television. A shout out also to Nicholas Britell's amazing music score which as been simply brilliant. This show was for us old farts who watched A New Hope all those decades ago, the one we have waited for. Waiting for SW to catchup up to us. The no holds barred Empire that will fuck you up. The Stormtroopers that don't miss. A Mon Mothma that sacrifices her values and morals for the greater good.😍 Nothing was 'played' for laughs here, these people had to work to survive, they sacrificed blood and bone and barely came out the other side.
Agree. Star Wars never really grew up with its original fans. We all found out about life, sacrifice and politics as we grew older but Star Wars (prequels and sequels) remained cutesy to tap into the lucrative kiddie market. Rogue One and Andor very much reflect the realities of the world its first fans grew to know and became aware of. Ewoks and Baby Yodas are cute, but give me the gritty, dark underbelly that is more closely tied to the realities we see happening right before our eyes in america and the rest of the world.
In the interview with the guy who did the music, he said this was the first thing he worked on -- all the other music in the show is derived from and works to build to this moment.
This finale was so good. I love the writing so much, the parrallels to other arcs in the show is one of my fav touches. Deedra is a mirror to Syril, thier overconfidence and lack of experience in combat situations cost them and thus Syril has his hero moment cuz he learned and grew from his failure and hes gonna be there for Deedra, i imagine she's gonna be much more dangerous in s2. Cassian gives himself entirely to the rebelion and puts himself in a vulnerable position like Luthen did in the third episode, he could easily have been killed but he clearly seems to be all aboard the rebellion now. I love how we dont see much of it but we see enough to know how Clem and Maarva shaped Cassian and the love they had for him. Maarva's speech was brilliant, i was hyped as hell. this show is just so good.
Oh my...oh my...oh my...do you think the internet could handle that? That would be sweet, ESPECIALLY after you see the pathetic live action intro of Thrawn in Ahsoka. I need something like a Gilroy team treatment of Thrawn to wipe that bad taste out of my mouth.
Totally agree, Hector! Definitely my favorite show this year. Best thing I've seen in a very long time. Surprises me to say, but even better than HOTD.
Such an emotional episode. Finally Andor starts his journey for the rebellion. He has nothing to lose now. Like maarva said, Andor is now a formidable foe to the empire.
The end scene between Luthen and Kassian is so great. it shows what Nemik wrote in his Manifesto. Specially the last word "Try" combined with the "I assume i am already dead..." line from Kino before, makes this confrontation where he says "Kill me, or take me in" more meaningful and purposely placed as a scene.
Guys, I think Perin will be redeemed... we have been questioning his motives, calling it a "loveless marriage"... I think we're gonna be surprised at the end. We are set up to believe it will go one way, and watch it go another. This show was a great surprise... not that I liked it- I would LOVE most anything Star Wars themed- but that it had no Jedi, no force lore, and no "main" characters... and STILL was 100% STAR WARS! The runners treated the universe with a lot of respect. And it shows. And we all love it because of that! Great stuff as always, bros!
I think the Vel and Cinta scene is a censor-friendly way to imply that they knocked boots that evening. "Come To My Window" by Melissa Etheridge is the most lesbian song that ever lesbianed. So when Vel says "Come away from the window" (and come to mine instead) she's keeping it Disney but you do the math.
in that moment when Cassian asked to be killed, Luthen realized that Cassian was all in for the cause, because he was willing to die to keep Luthen a secret.
Cassian gave his gun to Luthen and said “kill me or take me in” which meant that he was giving him a choice on what to do with him. And making it clear that he’s ready to fight for the rebellion if Luthen will let him. At this point Cassian either wants to die or fight. There’s no other option for him anymore.
So much to digest in this episode, which I’m very satisfied with, a good cliffhanger and the ending credit - here are my highlights - Mon Mothra surprised me with the daughter situation. I know that they’re doing anything for this rebellion because they need funding. It just kind of broke me a little bit. Maarva’s funeral and her last speech telling the truth about the Empire & Cassian hearing it. Then everybody rising up was great!! I do believe that Cassian had to go through the certain events like meeting up with Luthen, going to prison, coming back & hearing his mother pass & her speech, seeing what the Empire did to Bix, leading him where we find him at the end of this episode that “woke” moment, he wanted in, I believe he wants to be a part of this rebellion! Great writing, so sad this season is done, what the heck am I gonna do on Wednesday’s?! This series, gave me more faith in Star Wars again!
There's another element to the daughter - the Empire is homogenizing everything and making everything into fascism, so for many youths the return to old traditions, even toxic ones like Chandrilan arranged teen marriages, is a backlash against that kind of crap. It's not healthy, but it's very common. So the daughter probably thinks this is a good thing. Whereas Mon, who has lived in a mostly loveless marriage, knows how harmful it is. So she's both being supportive of her child, while abusing that trust, and also dreading for her child's future that she's helping potentially wreck.
After the Aldhani heist another episode where they built tension to an exceptionally masterful degree. And it's oh so rewarding when that tension is released, the damn breaks and the fighting starts. Just one thing... it's a shame the, uh, anvil-hammer-guy didn't dome that Stormtrooper coming for him with a hammer. Kicking him down the tower was great, sure, but just not the same. :D And i loved seeing Brasso (low-key one of my favorite characters in this show), being the big guy he is, go to town on the Empire's goons. Also, Stormtroopers getting shit done is slightly terrifying. As a side note - i like this funerary rite the have on Ferrix. The whole procession thing with the marching band, the idea with the bricks, too. Love it.
Sometimes the simplest methods are the best. I was expecting a blasters v hammers showdown ... No. Just kick him off! - good riddance! Much more efficient (and truly a nod to the "dumb stormtrooper" trope - although these have very accurate aim compared to previous Star Wars) It was a rare moment of humour in a grim battle to the death.
The only cameo I’ve been campaigning for since this show was announced is the return of Cassian’s Rebel Intelligence commander from Rogue One movie, General Draven. The novels explored a very interesting relationship he has with Cassian and with Mon Mothma. If any pre-existing characters should return and get some more nuance and depth, it’s Draven. If Andor could give more to Melshi and recontextualize his moments in Rogue One, then I’m hoping Draven gets the same.
The only character I could see having a cameo or big role in S2 that we already know is Bail Organa. Could be cool to see him connect with Mon Mothma and how they pull their resources to really find the rebellion. Maybe even Cassian does a mission with him or something. Other than that I don’t see any other character coming in. Maybe a name drop of Krennic and his “project” and how that affects the ISB funding or something but I don’t think we will actually see him. As always great reaction and man did this show really surprise me! I absolutely loved it. Bring on season 2!
The kill me or take me in line is Cassian showing Luthen that he is now 100 percent commited to the rebellion. It was the only way to show Luthen that he was all the way in.
I'm glad to hear Andor is in your top 3. My top sci-fi/fantasy shows of the last decade: Game of Thrones House of the Dragon Andor The Expanse The Rings of Power Westworld
TV Tropes: Kill Me Now or Forever Stay Your Hand. Either kill me right now or we bury the hatchet between us. Cassie gave Luthen 100% of the power to show how serious he was about joining the rebellion.
Great reaction! I don't know why you're calling it a cliff hanger though. We see Luthen smile and that absolutely means he's taking him in. Plus we know Andor lives so, there is no cliff hanger. Cassian totally understood why Luthen would need/want to kill him. So he also knew that he needed to do something dramatic to show Luthen he could trust him. That's why he went ahead and offered his life - so he would know he was sincere. Cassian showed other times where he was very astute and knowing what it takes to get people to trust him - like when he admitted he was hired.
My blood pressure skyrocketed when you called the holo in the kid's workshop, Cassian. Like...I just DO NOT get it. How...HOW does every single reactor think that? I cannot fathom it, at all. The hair is wrong, the beard (even before Cass shaved) is wrong, the shape of the head even in rear profile is wrong. I mean, it doesn't even slightly resemble Cassian in any way. I am just totally blown away by everyone thinking that every single time. Is it based on the assumption that all holos are Imperial wanted posters? Are people's expectations that easily manipulated? Did it sincerely, not once, occur to anybody at all...that it's also how they keep images of loved ones? Is everyone so completely ruled by their preconceptions and expectations that nobody at all thinks to look even a little carefully for just a moment? I just do not get it. They look about as much alike to me as Thrawn and a Rancor.

And it’s interesting that he wrote such a show even after admitting he doesn’t like Star Wars (to my knowledge I think I heard that in an interview)
I just realized the Band players for the funeral playing unharmoniously at the start when they are practicing then playing together is a analogy for the independent rebel cells acting on their own before they form the rebellion
Great insight!
Just watched this show after kinda skipping it and now I can’t stop looking into every single detail now
OMG, how did I miss that?!? Everyone starts out playing to their own tunes, but then finally comes together to make something together.
There are a lot of symbolism in this show, like for an example people complained about how the heist members used AK-47. It was intentional. IRL, AK-47 is a popular firearms among rebels/insurgents.
You can hear the star wars theme in the mix of the "unharmonious playing"
Brasso starting the riot by clocking imperials with Maarva's brick was just the best. His character is such an underrated part of the show. That actor is damn good. I hope we see more of him next season and in other things.
Yeah Brasso is a great side character.
I love Brasso. He's like Cassian's adoptive big brother.
The brick I respect, the bomb was foolish.
That is my opinion.
And the Empire didn't do what Cassian's father told him: look down!
@@alfje5492 true that! brings a whole new meaning to the scene where all of them are looking for him on the top of the buildings only.
That was rule #2, but what’s really great is that he used the tunnel into the hotel that Maarva dug up in an earlier episode because “the rebellion will need it”
@@alfje5492”a surprise from above is never as shocking as one from below” -Nemik
When he said kill me or take me in, he meant take me into your rebellion. As in, Cassian is all in.
Yeah he simply gave Luthen a choice, whose answer was clear as day when he smirked. It wasn't a depressive statement nor a cliffhanger ending at all. They might've missed the dialogue from all the talking.
@@bowkatze mainly Hector asking questions that would be answered if he would take a breath.
They were with Luthen, thinking it was a game. But it was Andor completing his arc. Cynic to believer willing to die for the greater cause.
@슈미츠얀 They would have absorb more of the story if they just kept their talking to a minimum
@슈미츠얀 Talking is not a problem. But they should know when to shut up. A lot of what they say is just joking around.
Brilliant.
Maarva's speech and manifesto address alone are worth an Emmy.
I'll drive
"Fighting these BASTARDS!" Mad chills and even teared up a little.
What do you expect Gollum an Harry Potters Aunt know how to spit hot 🔥 😆
That bastard flipping B2 hurt as much as that storm trooper hitting Grogu. I legit stood up when that happened ready to whoop that dudes ass. One of the best shows this year and can’t wait for season 2.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, the dialog is what sets this show apart from (and in my opinion above) all other Star Wars media.
The acting too.
@@martinjrgensen8234 yes, that too. But great actors need great material. Just think how Andor has demonstrated how utterly wasted Stellan Skarsgard's talents were in the MCU. Because they only gave his character bland exposition lines there.
It is indeed the best SW ever. And that includes ANH, ESB etc.
I'm hoping for Bail Organa, mainly because I want to see Jimmy Smitts performing dialogue from this writer's room.
Same. Jimmy Smits can have a little good Star Wars, as a treat.
I’m sure Bail is how Mon Mothma cuts her ties with Davo and possibly saving her family from a crime syndicate
For real. The Obi-wan show made him look like an idiot

Absolutely that would be amazing.
Yoda: There is no try, only do.
Nemmik: You know nothing, space muppet.
The Death Star scene at the end is the opening sequence that kept evolving at the beginning of every episode.
The score is also the funeral dirge building.
Good catch.
@@martinjrgensen8234 hmm you're right
hmm... I am trying, but I don't see it :(
there is no death star scene

Power doesn’t panic. Luthen and Cassian didn’t panic
What a divine show.
The show took Star Wars to the next level.
several levels!
Exactly, he's telling Luthen that he doesn't have anything left.
It could be both. Like without the rebellion, there’s no point to life anymore
I took it to be that Andor was showing that he was serious, that him joining the cause isn’t just some trick or scam because he literally gives Luthen the gun and gives him an easy way to tie up the loose end he initially came there for.
Yeah it's a blood oath. "I give my life to you and the rebellion" basically. Luthen understood it. "Cassian is 100% on board now" etc.
The fact that all the opening credit music was compiled into Maarva's stone March was a cool detail
25:26 did you guys miss the "or take me in" part? Cassian is offering himself to the rebellion and Luthen realizes he actually cares about the cause. It's not really a cliffhanger. Pretty obvious Luthen accepted him.
Yeah, Hector was too busy talking for a change 😂
They made stormtroopers scary and proficient again.
Thanks for clarifying!

Amen!!!
- if I could do it again I’d wake up early and be fighting these bastards from the start. Fight the empire!”
Probably one of the most inspiring speeches in Star Wars. I felt like throwing one of my stormtrooper action figures
STONE AND SKY!
ONE WAY OUT!
CLIMB!
The speeches have been fire but the one liners have been bangers too
TRY!
FIGHT THE EMPIRE!
Way better than "The Sea is always right!"
Even better, I looked back and the kyber crystal that Luthen gave Andor was a "sky stone" made to honor the fight against the Rakatan Infinite Empire. It was always stone and sky.
ON PROGRAM!
Great post. I felt the same!
It's funny that there was that one quick scene with Brasso swinging a droid arm to whack imperials with. The Spanish word for 'arm' is 'brazo'.
14:45 B2 is like FUCK IT. WE'LL DO IT LIVE.
EXACTLY how I felt!!!
the cruel irony, that Andor created the weapon that lead to his death, yet his sacrifice awoke the destiny of the hero that would forever destroy it
he did not created the weapon, Galen Erso did, Cassian only, forced to build some interlocking couplings.
JUST FINISHED WATCHING THE EPISODE MYSELF.. WHAT AN END.. AMAZING.
ONE OBSERVATION I HAVE IS THAT B2MO WAS SILENT UNTILL HE SEES CASSIAN
Saw wasn't a Cameo?
@@betaich I wouldn't think so.
I would say a camo is when the main point of a scene is "Look at this character"
But the scenes with Saw are primary about Luthen,
showing us how he is connected to the wider rebel alliance,
his role as a facilitator and his goal to unify the rebel cells together
as well as the issues he faces because those rebel cells don't like each other "Separatists!, Cultist!"
You would want to show that even if you didn't include Saw and having Luthen talk to another rebel organization is a very easy and organic way to do that, so you would likely end up creating a character that was very similar to Saw anyway.
@@blobmaneatsme Same thing can be said about Asohka, Bo Katan and all the other cameos iin the Mandalorian.
@@betaich the thing about asohka and Bo Katan is both of them feel like characters from another story. a part of this is the story structure of the Mandalorian which is very episodic and has a lot of characters show up for one or two episodes and then vanish. but even then they are completely chance encounters, the camera lingers on their first reveal to play up who they are and they never really given a reason to tie them to the plot for an extended time
whereas Saw benefits from being tied into the plot by both his internal motivation (fighting the empire is going to lead him into the "season 3" Rouge One) and by his personal relationship with Luthen.
Finally, we get to see The Empire be shown to be as much of a Force in the galaxy as the Jedi and the Sith.
Cassian's evolution as a leader
Ep. 3 Needed to be saved by Luthien
Ep.
The music of the Funeral March is the evolving score for each episode of Andor's opening titles!
Nemik: Remember it, try
Yoda: A disturbance in the Force, I felt.
i have never screamed so much. it was so palpable!
And not to forget - he was already effectively working at sabotaging it before he knew it existed, too!
One of my favorite little things in this is the "try" from Nemik's manifesto. It's the opposite of the advice Yoda gives Luke and it's what all the rebels have to choose. They have to choose to try.
This show was perfect for me. Wildly excited for season 2.
I commented this on another video. Now I need a re-edit of Rogue One with an end credit scene showing B2 in a room asking, "Where's Cassian?"
Loved the marching band music score and everything from the first second of episode 1 right thru to the last second of episode 12. BRAVO! Gilroy Bros, the Cast, ILM, and all the magic film technicians that made this the best dam television ever!

I gotta say, I want the dude who played Brasso to play Ben Grimm in the MCU!

Great idea!
This show is a masterpiece from a filmmaking perspective, it's just an added bonus for me that it's set in the Star Wars universe.
that crew that escaped, the kid, Bix, Brasso and the rest would make a great rebel cell/strike force...
Cassian helped build the weapon that will end up killing him, but ultimately he'll die trying to take them down rather than dying giving them what they want.
I didn't expect this show to be so good, props to everyone who made it :) Cant wait fpr season 2!
The guys "are they going to steal the brick?"
Me: "oh they're gonna do something with that brick" haha
Both speeches in this episode gave me so many goosebumps, Maarva's had me tearing up too. Loved this show easily one of my favorites from 2022, seeing your reactions and hearing your thoughts each week made it even more enjoyable too. Thanks guys, here's to s2!
Glad they used Marvas brick for the actual fight. Easy to predict but symbolic none the less. Honestly hope Cassian doesn't find them in S2
A Mon Mothma that sacrifices her values and morals for the greater good.😍
Nothing was 'played' for laughs here, these people had to work to survive, they sacrificed blood and bone and barely came out the other side.
Thrawn written under Andor writers is something I didn't know I wanted to see soo bad!
Great idea 💡 Hecto
Oh my...oh my...oh my...do you think the internet could handle that? That would be sweet, ESPECIALLY after you see the pathetic live action intro of Thrawn in Ahsoka. I need something like a Gilroy team treatment of Thrawn to wipe that bad taste out of my mouth.
Seeing Luthen predator smile when Cassian asked to join him was what he wanted. Luthen wanted Cassian on his side.
I can't believe you thought he was there to steal Maarva's brick… like, imagine rolling up to your mother's funeral and stealing her casket.
Totally agree. Andor hit the top of my list, above Severance AND Interview With The Vampire
10:16 "Maarva from beyond the grave."
Oh...just wait.
LMAO HECTOR WITH THE CALLOUT ABOUT GRIEVOUS
I know right! Did lol at that potshot, it was well deserved.
Do you guys remember in the movie "Clerks" when they have the discussion of who built the Death Star?
I think the Vel and Cinta scene is a censor-friendly way to imply that they knocked boots that evening. "Come To My Window" by Melissa Etheridge is the most lesbian song that ever lesbianed. So when Vel says "Come away from the window" (and come to mine instead) she's keeping it Disney but you do the math.
in that moment when Cassian asked to be killed, Luthen realized that Cassian was all in for the cause, because he was willing to die to keep Luthen a secret.
Love the shot at Star Wars Theory with the General Grievous show idea 😂😂😂
Y'all, that post-credits scene means that Cassian was a builder of his own destruction.
Cassian is not 'depress', he is committed. 'Kill me, or take me in'. That's his offer of commitment.
Def top 1 show I’ve seen this year. Just phenomenal story telling.
It's not that Cassian is depressed. He's proving his commitment in a way that will be understood. He's all in or nothing
"Marvas last wishes, light em up"
You know I'm pretty sure that's in character for her 😂
Cassian gave his gun to Luthen and said “kill me or take me in” which meant that he was giving him a choice on what to do with him.
Much more efficient (and truly a nod to the "dumb stormtrooper" trope - although these have very accurate aim compared to previous Star Wars)
It was a rare moment of humour in a grim battle to the death.
Totally agree. Bail is the only one who makes sense in this story.
Y’all have the best reactions to these shows, man. Feels like I’m watching with good buddies with takes similar to mine. Love it.
The kill me or take me in line is Cassian showing Luthen that he is now 100 percent commited to the rebellion. It was the only way to show Luthen that he was all the way in.
I'm glad to hear Andor is in your top 3.
My top sci-fi/fantasy shows of the last decade:
Game of Thrones
House of the Dragon
Andor
The Expanse
The Rings of Power
Westworld
This is the Star Wars I wanted and finally got
a year later and i've still not found folks talking about "the escape route".... Marva fell deathly ill while clearing these tunnels.
Not really a cliffhanger when you know that Cassian is obviously not going to be killed in this moment. That leaves you with only one other option.
TV Tropes: Kill Me Now or Forever Stay Your Hand. Either kill me right now or we bury the hatchet between us. Cassie gave Luthen 100% of the power to show how serious he was about joining the rebellion.
so glad we all got to share this

Thank you Kathleen Kennedy and Disney for producing this show!! You two SAVED STAR WARS AGAIN!!
You didn't cover the post-credits scene
Great reaction! I don't know why you're calling it a cliff hanger though. We see Luthen smile and that absolutely means he's taking him in. Plus we know Andor lives so, there is no cliff hanger. Cassian totally understood why Luthen would need/want to kill him. So he also knew that he needed to do something dramatic to show Luthen he could trust him. That's why he went ahead and offered his life - so he would know he was sincere. Cassian showed other times where he was very astute and knowing what it takes to get people to trust him - like when he admitted he was hired.
Meow? Cass said "... or take me in" not take me out. He's ready to join the rebellion & fight the bastards for real.
@@manofsan they do! It interrupts their post episode discussion :)
Maybe you guys should have subtitles on, at the end cass said “kill me….OR TAKE ME IN”
My blood pressure skyrocketed when you called the holo in the kid's workshop, Cassian.
It’s been so fun watching this season with you all! Happy Thanksgiving Adam, Hector, and Agustin!
When the episode ended I remembered that Marva was checking the tunnels for the rebellion, the tunnels tha Cassian used
What? That's not a cliffhanger, we obviously know he takes him in and joins The Rebellion! 😂😂
18:30 here goes the rebellion
