- Custom Pre-sets in War Thunder are finally here. After being promised they were coming after Winds of Change, we can now customise our armament for specific Planes.
In today's video, I chose to try some custom presets for the A-10! There are some strange decisions been made by Gaijin for custom presets due to the spawn point cost for certain loadouts. If you take the most expensive item, you can load your plane with anything else you like without the spawn points ever increasing higher than the most expensive one.
That means you can literally fully load your plane for the max cap spawn points with only the penalty of the A-10 flying like a giant sky barge!
The A-10 really relies on the AGM Mavericks so now you can load pretty much anything else you like on top, it's pretty cool to have!

Fun fact: The A-10 sends its spent 30mm shells back into the ammo drum to maintain balanced flight characteristics.

@@essaalnoon1768 Unless some current active duty personnel can correct me I'm pretty sure those empty canisters just end up in burn pits or otherwise disposed of.
Really hoping that they do bring custom presets to the rest of the aircraft in the game. Curious how it would work with planes that have internal bays (as in would you have to fill the bay with one kind of bomb or could you mix and match a little). Kinda disappointed that we didn't get at least a little bit of footage of the meme loadouts but I understand that they're probably a bear to be useful in game with.

2 gun pods, air targets belts, 2x aim 9l 6x mavericks fill the rest of the slots with hydras edit* use in air RB
Top tier CAS and Helis are balance breaking by their nature, don't see this custom loadout stuff making it that much worse

Using stryker with only 9 ammo instead of 18 is much more fun as you can show the enemy your entire side-view of your rear and you can bait shots by doing so. I highly suggest this tactic!

Yeah, Odd...really interested to see how you've key-bound your sensors in order to make the Mavericks work as well as you've used them in the video. My A-10 sorties NEVER look like what you just pulled off...I get 90 seconds and then a Tunguska/KA-50/KA-52/Gepard/FlakRakRad/Begleit/Ozelot/DCA/PUMA just slaps me to the ground. And I'm trying to stay 6 miles and around 8K feet of alt which is as far as the Mavericks can reach and they need 8K feet in order to go that far.
Climb to 6 or 7 km, then fly straight above their spawns, they never have the ability to fire straight up.

For tanks it would come with a negative impact as well though, rounds not in the ready rack aren't as fast on the reload.

Solution to 20:32; weapon selection keybind, very helpful and convenient. All you need is 2 buttons, one to select the weapon you want and second one to fire

Thanks for the good vid as always :) I took a quick look and I couldn't seem to find a video on the T54E1 US medium not sure if it's something you would consider featuring, I'm curious as to what others think about it too
imo it used to be good but with nerfed AP penetration and all the BR changes over the years, it's not really something to pay for. The 5 second reload is nice but that's about it really, 105mm M68 on the M60 already out-reloads everything but other L7's and autoloaders. I'd rather use the M60A1 AOS for the stabilizer, better APDS and slightly better armor for downtiers.
@@bighobo7745 Yeah I think its rather move it down tier, give it some more tools to be more competitive at its br, or for example which I think even Odd has mentioned is up the br of the t55am
@@JonR536 Would be fine at 7.7 as it is but I would rather see fixed APBC (many US tanks affected, probably never happening) and improved rate of fire. It was capable of up to 35rpm for the 9 shots (1.8s reload) but that would be ridiculously strong so for balance something like 15rpm for 4 sec reload is OK at 8.0.
I love how when I get A-10 in the test drive (I don't have it and I'm nowhere near that BR) I can't even figure out how to shot those missiles, I put seeker on but it doesn't lock on anything, only air-to-air works for me lol
ruclips.net/video/zCRVfCNpCYQ/видео.html is a great tutorial on how to use TV or IR guided bombs and ATGMs. Do note that the bomb has to be on a path to fall near your target, and the missile needs to be in range to hit; being higher up should help with missile range a decent amount.

I never knew the scoreboard shows what weaponry an aircraft is carrying. Noticed in the first A-10 clip when Odd pulled up the scoreboard it had a bomb and missile icon next to the vehicle icon.
Even tho im really REALLY tired of playing the game even tho im only bout 100h into it watching ur vids is always fun.

Is there a way for you to share your keybinds? I really would like to know how you have your setup. Being able to control the plane while freelooking and still being able to do other things is a big part of what Im missing in my game I think
For far too long, I've had to make due with the AH-64A not getting Stinger missiles with the 8x Hellfire + 38x Hydra rockets
Hopefully when they add this feature to helis next year I'll be able to fulfill my dream

The premium A-10 is just straight up pay to win at this point lmao. 9.7, can see 8.7 downtiers, fucking insane. New armament presets just set it in stone with the insane ordinance you can set up on it. Meanwhile the best thing you can get on the Late is mavs and some 2000lb bombs, crazy.
I think the presets will eventually come to every plane. You just have to be patient.
Yeah, the Late version doesn't have GBUs or the Gunpods (But has better AGMs) - Kinda mad about that. Also, hears to hoping that the rest of the pylons get more diverse options - I really wanna bring as many 500lb bombs as possible to mess around with in Custom battles.
I dont get it, my A-7D is limited to 4 Mavericks and 2x bombs along with 2 AIM-9Js at 10.3. Meanwhile this sing sits at 9.7 with better missiles, better loadout options and only marginally slower aircraft. A-7D should be 10.0, and the A-7E 10.3, they dont have speed unlike the MiG-27K, so why they still that high is beyond me.

How do you use the weapon lock for ground like that? Is it the same key bind just out side of the therms?
i find it verey neaeet that you finally can choosee what to put under your wings. howeveer the weight restriction should be a bit more refined because it's more the torque which impacts the airworthyness. so a bigger payload further out impacts more on the restriction.
The absolute chad loadout would be mavericks on every hardpoint. Complete team wiper so long as the other team isn't flying CAP
Hstv-L seems to do me well when trying to get me spawnpoints for a AH-64D Longbow with 16 hellfires and 4 stinger missiles which suck
I just realized that the A-10 is essentially the modern equivalent of a Stuka

I honestly don't know where the idea that the Stuka was intended as a CAS plane comes from. All the strategic documentation and doctrine around them gave them exactly the same role as other small, mid-range bombers in the Luftwaffe. The only difference in their mission targets was when something smaller like a bridge needed to go it was usually Stukas that got the job since they could more accurately hit the relatively smaller target.
@FirestormMk3 Smaller targets would include armoured columns, bunkers, gun emplacements, and the like. Very similar to what modern CAS aircraft would usually engage with larger munitions.

I find that being RIGHT above the enemy spawn at about 5km in this makes me pretty much invincible since SAM's typically stay in their spawn and can't elevate straight up all the way. You then dive on them and then go back up to 5km after you fire one of your 6 mavericks, rinse and repeat!
Yet people claim cas is balanced and AAA are over powered.
@@chiriematthieu Well, the A-10 takes a ton of time to get to said altitude, honestly, 5km is still too low.
@chiriematthieu The solution there is for the AA to not just literally sit in the spawn, and move. that's all they would have to do.

The only thing that could have made this even better is if we got the 30mm gunpods the A-10 was equipped with for a bit. Or if we could've gotten 20mm gunpods on every pylon.
Now we joust need different fuzes on bombs and selecting which bomb to drop

Well, this function is very usefull. I was able to take 2 AIM-9L or 10/12 500pnd bombs before, now i can take 16 500pnd bombs and 2 AIM-9L XD
I find it strange you can only take 6 Mavericks but at the same time I still like that I don't have to use Gaijins presets that waste so much wing space.
I wish the A10 got a A7E style targeting pod or we got Aardvark instead

Silly question Odd, how do you get the air to ground lock to stay on when searching for the lock, mine flashes and just goes bye-bye unless I'm like right on the target
It only stays on for like a second or so. He is probably hitting it multiple times

theres several things I see players do that I cant figure out how in the keybindings such as manual range finding and range setting for tank guns

Rangefinding: Settings -> Controls -> Ground Vehicles -> Miscellaneous -> Rangefinder (should be 5th up from the bottom)
and the range setting is the same as above except its the bottom one "Sight Distance Control"
@@jhorn64 controls. Tank controls. All the way to the bottom on rangefinder. Set bind to increase decrease and reset range.
Is there anything in the devblog about this like a test/trial of the functionality in the game, that they might add game-wide? Or is this just for these select vehicles?
It eventually will come to every plane that had this functionality. We'll see in time. It's incredibly buggy right now, sometimes you can't spawn the plane.
@@OddBawZ I really can't see gajin bring custom loadouts to non-high tier airplanes. The cries about other nation having viable Fighter CAS that isn't the the F4U/P47 will be too great. Reddit is already in a melt down.

Modern propeller military planes are going to be absolute hell to balance because of customizable modern weapon loadouts.
They will just be an A-10 but it'd a prop / turbo prop

How to you get that atgm lock? I have to actually go into the tv viewer and it kills me unless I’m miles away
