If you haven't heard of just who Nas is until now, he's arguably the GOAT of the rap game, with Illmatic (1994) being lauded as possibly the best rap album of all time - and he's released 8-9 great albums since then, not counting a few just 'good' albums and a few uneven/mid ones (which still have several top songs in them). You should check out the entire Illmatic album (10 songs, not too long) - I've seen many young ones listening and getting their mind blown. It's 30 years old and still timeless. If you love that you can pick up some of his newer shit or however you decide.
Bruh.. If I ruled the world was my fuckin joint back in the day. One of the first songs I remember having completely memorized. It was written was banger front to back🔥🔥🔥🔥
Jaz was Jay-Zs homie and they rapped together in a group with songs like Hawaiian Sophie. They originated the fast rap tongue twister style that Busta, Fu Snickens and Twista made fanous. Jay-Z dissed Prodigy and Nas 1st in The Takeover
This is a big moment as a hiphop fan for you. You’re entering one of the greatest catalogs in Rap🤣 Here are some important Nas songs: ‘NY State Of Mind’ ‘I Gave You Power’ ‘You’re Da Man’ ‘It Ain’t Hard To Tell’ ‘Nas Is Like’
ANas killed jay and his crew by himself. Ether even became a verb for destroying someone after this, and its tupac saying "fuck jay z" in the beginning. Nas is the greatest to ever touch the mic untouchable. The goat 🐐 do nas "i gave you power".
Jaz -O helped Jay get into the rap game. So Nas mocking fact he based his artist name (Jay Z) on another man’s name. Ether a classic diss but in terms of Nas skills as an MC. This light stuff. Check out ‘I gave you power ‘
I been on Nas Escobar since 1994….came up on this era nas is my number one. ….yo here some shits that’s hard and wasn’t tha popular radio songs….. Nas…..life we chose… Nas….I gave you power Nas….undying love Nas….god love us ……man there is so many songs dog
Nas removed himself from the music industry to attend to his mom who was dying of cancer. Fast forward and jay z dissed Nas on the song , “The Takeover” at Summer Jam 2001. It was kinda outta left field so nas was like wtf you calling me out for?? At first, he wasn’t sure if he was gonna get back in the industry (which he did). THEN Nas waited to drop his album, Stillmatic and this fire track right here on Jay’s birthday too. 🔥🔥🔥There was no real response either. Best diss track ever bruh. “Hit em up” by Tupac is a close second.
When someone loat they say you got ' ethered ' not hit up or Vaselined . Ether is a new verb in ghe dictionary after the beef . Clear winner Nas , best diss record ever did the most damage
Saw Nas in concert when this beef was going on. This was the song he came out to. They must've looped "Fuck Jay-Z" for 5 straight minutes. Crowd was going wild lol
If you wanna know where this beef started listen to Nas’s “Last Real Nigga Alive”. It was on the album after this one (God’s Son). He explains the whole 90s Hiphop situation. Ether is the funeral, Last Real Nigga Alive is the nail in the coffin. He explains why he had to body Jay-Z. 💯
Em said that in an interview he was going to get in a beef with Nas I guess for using the word stan until he listen to the words of Nas dissing jay-gay-z and Em said quickly that I don't want no smoke with Nas 😂 nuff said period
Nas was ON HIS NECK! I was in 9th grade when this dropped. On his bday 😩. It was so unexpected bc nas didn’t make diss tracks like that. I didn’t see this coming at ALL! We were stunned! At that time Jay z was the radio favorite. Nas was more authentically hip hop and not as radio friendly I guess. He ate him UP!

This Nas vs Jay Z beef was alot back then. Too much to explain in a comment section. If you wanna know more about this beef deeper go watch the Nas vs Jay Z beef, Who Won documentary.
Jay-Z slept with Nas's baby mama Carmen Bryan. Late 90s sometime. It's no allegedly, they ALL admitted it. She said it on Vlad. It's no secret. That one reaction the beef started but they was beefing then.
You-probably should do Jay Z Take over, that's when he finally said NAS name. Before that he took cheap shot subliminally. He also tried to do what ever Nas did creatively. Like Nas would put out Money is my Bitch, and use all metaphors to to equate money with being his girl, then Jay Z comin out using diamonds and tried to equated with them being his bitch. He did it a lot of that. It was the timing too. Nas would drop a song and it was right behind it. To the point were the whole hood was like didn't Nas just do that. He never tried Rewind. Not even Eminem tried that. I would suggest doing Blaze a 50, by Nas. the story telling is just on another level. Its like a movie you can see it. That's he's my G.O.A.T. or you could choose Rewind. Really it doesn't matter what you choose, I never heard a bad Nas song.
Nas didn't call Jay-Z a stan by accident in the song. He heard Renegade and thought Jay-Z's storytelling was weak compared to Eminem's and of course Eminem has a song called Stan which is a story about an obsessive fan that idolizes Eminem at first and then gets mad at his idol. Like Nas arrived on the scene in 1991 and was seen as one of the greats after just one album whereas Jay-Z came up later, wanted to be like Nas but was seen as just another rapper who at times was biting Biggie's style and even copying his bars sometimes word for word without acknowledging that they came from Biggie
Jay-z " Take Over". The first 2 verses are about Pridogy from Mobb Deep. The 3rd verse is about Nas. IMO, even tho ether is amazing. I like Take Over better. Its truth and more personal. Jaz-O was Jays big homie. They grew up in the same projects and Jaz-O help put on Jay.
Takeover has been debunked and most of it is lie MC serch clarified that Nas owns 50 percent of Dead Presidents he still paying Nas till this day. Takeover is lies and narratives opinions. Ether is the diss with the Facts
Check out Nas Death Row East, it's all about him and Pac. Last Real Nigga Alive goes a bit more into the JayZ stuff. The Cross is a banger produced by Eminem. All of ILLmatice is worth the listen, It Was Written has some great songs ad well. I am is alright, again some absolute bangers (NY State of Mind pt 2, Small World, Hate Me Now and Nas Is Like) but was rushed, Nastradomus is easily his worst album then STILLmatic (which Ether is on) is again worth listening to completely. God's Son is also a great album, I love Street's Disciple which is a 2 disc album. Just so much, thats just up to 2005. He's a beast!

Blueprint was Jay Z album, not Nas. Nas didn’t show up to a recording he had scheduled with Jay in the 90’s which started the hard feelings and when Biggie died, Jay Z tried to lay claim as the king of New York rap and Nas felt some way about that and this is what started years of them firing shots at each other. They are cool now though. And his line about Eminem murdering him on his own sh!t is funny bc Eminem murdered Nas on his own song too so he ain’t got no room to talk and I’m a huge Nas fan
Depends on how you look at it - he gave him much more time and let him shine, which IMO was a mistake. For me Em's verse on EPMD2 was needlessly tryhard shit that overstayed its welcome - he only cared for ultra fast rappity rap bars and in how many ways he could flip syllables - but there was no other feeling or intent or actual smart bars in there. The only thing I remember of that overlong verse was him rapping some corny scheme about santa and reindeer and shit. Nice beat and I love Nas' verse because he still raps fast while letting you absorb the bars and had better lyrics - but when Em comes in I press skip and go to the next track on the album.

They said this around the time Nas mom was dying so he probably hurt immensely around that time

Jaz is Jaz-O. Jay Z and Jaz were tight, and Jay started Roc, and tried to get Jaz to sign, and Jaz turned him down.
