I’ve just started to develop salesforce at my company and they are teaching EVERYONE that is available there. So, competition grows everyday is a fact. On the other hand, I came from a technology which was on fase 3 when I started coding on it. Salesforce is a way of getting up to date with recent technology. Thanks god.
My dad has worked for Salesforce partners for years. He's managing architects now and has supported my family well. I'm 25, majored in Nutrition, went into the healthcare industry, but after a few years in it, I'm not sure if I want to work in patient care forever. I've always had a knack for Excel and would be interested in learning to code as well. Currently working on the admin cert on my days off. Great stuff David! I might suggest to all who may read learn Salesforce and all about SaaS platforms in general and pursue selling. Trading your life for time will never get anyone rich. Selling is residual. Companies keeping signing year after year and the checks keep coming in. That’s the life I’m talking about😉
Another angle on this is Salesforce is now strategic. So the skills you need are enterprise level implementation (COE / DevOps / BA / Architecture). So BIG projects, with big budgets and big problems. And you get paid based on the size of the problems you can fix. Big problems = big $$$. Expand horizontally as well. There are heaps of salesforce developers in India.. No judgement I mean I have many talented colleagues in India, platform II with annual income of 30k. Think about how else you can add value, add on training/ project management... but I must say doing my first exam 5 years ago, more credentials n add ons enable me to maintain a new job at 6 deg after being retrenched at this climate.
I totally agree with you. I got to know about Salesforce back in 2014 during my Masters degree and I completed DEV & ADM certifications at that time. I got an internship on the basis of those certifications only but never got to work on actual SFDC project. I ended up getting full time job as Data Engineer and never worked on any Salesforce project in past 6 yrs. I kept learning on Trailhead and still get fascinated with Salesforce. But I feel like the technology and platform has evolved so much in past 6 yrs that it looks really tough to get into SFDC development. At the same time, I feel I can still get into SFDC BA or Consultant roles as I am into Consulting now. What are your thoughts on this, David?

I've worked in the customer service department and the accounts we handle uses Salesforce as CRM. I guess we can say I'm an end user. Due to the pandemic, I'm loving working from home and would like to continue working at home in the future. I can take both paths, as an Administrator and Developer, but I have no experience on coding. Does the learning plan teaches me basic coding or the coding skills needed for SFDC? I have been learning SF since 2018 and at this point, I am not sure what to think. In 2018, I was so excited, but now 2 + years later, I often wonder is it worth it. I have had my admin since Feb of 2019 and I still have not made any salary or money off of SF. Coding may be a better route now.

Times are kinda weird right now with the whole virus thing and I recently started a $15/hr. warehouse job just to somehow generate some income. Problem is, this warehouse job is leaving me with no time or energy to continue making progress with Salesforce's Business Analyst path. I'm considering taking a couple days off here and there solely for Salesforce training, or possibly even quitting the warehouse job entirely and completely diving in head first into Salesforce and staying in as long as possible. Your thoughts on MS Dynamics? Lots of people are talking about Dynamics overtaking SF's core business in a few years. Dynamics can't beat SF head on but the MS Cloud and the range of their products are very enticing for organizations. MS products integrate very well with the biggest tech platforms meanwhile SF hasn't done a good job integrating some of their biggest acquisitions (Tableau, Mulesoft, etc.).
Does salesforce curve is more flaten than entertainment apps like insta, fb etc...? We have excel for a long time with us now. And Salesforce is an upgrading platform as well. What do you think??
Hi David. I am a 3d Artist currently, and have been fast tracking myself through Trailhead and will be taking my admin certification within the next few weeks. I know that I am basically already done with this path, and I do have an interest to learn some of the coding a little further down the line. I just am worried about getting a job... even more worried after watching this video. I live in the Charlotte NC area and all of the jobs around here (of which there are only between 5-10) ask for years of experience and college degrees... which I have neither of, will just have a certification. Do you think there are ways I could get practical experience in the meantime to look better for employers, or have I completely missed out on the craze and dont stand a chance when compared to an admin who has learned salesforce but also has business degrees and etc?
All the best to you! Many things I'd recommend. First watch my "how to fake experience..." video. Then get more certs. Finally ignore the years of experience "requirements" on job descriptions. I believe if you're willing to put in the work there's a guarantee chance of success. But if you're not then it's better to roll the dice elsewhere. Coding will make things significantly easier but will also have a higher investment!

How about developers? Are admins taking up the mantle to become dev? Ex-dev here looking to get back into a career change. (almost 30 -- yes i left dev because i wanted to try something new). Like you I've wasted my early career earning a salary developing 0 skill. Realistically do you know somoen that past an exam in less than 30 days?

Ended up watching all ur vids of u giving opinions on Salesforce as I’ve recently started an internship role as a Salesforce dev I’m just worried that SF dev skills arent really transferable outside of SF/CRM and if it’s too late to get in now since it’s a phase 2 tech. As a graduating student would it be worth it to start deepening my knowledge in SF now? Or should I keep my options open by learning other tech stacks?
Thanks! Yes the younger you are the less I'd recommend Salesforce honestly. It depends on whether you want to take on longer term bets or commit to something that'll for sure be strong in the short term
Get a good grasp of your OOP fundamentals its implementation depending on flavor(C#, C++, C,...). What you learn in school ONLY scratches the surface. Stay busy learning new technologies and improving on the ones you understand. Good luck to you!

I started out as a software engineer, and migrated into development in Salesforce. The transition was a lot less bumpy with the coding experience.

I’ve just started to develop salesforce at my company and they are teaching EVERYONE that is available there. So, competition grows everyday is a fact. On the other hand, I came from a technology which was on fase 3 when I started coding on it. Salesforce is a way of getting up to date with recent technology. Thanks god.

My dad has worked for Salesforce partners for years. He's managing architects now and has supported my family well. I'm 25, majored in Nutrition, went into the healthcare industry, but after a few years in it, I'm not sure if I want to work in patient care forever. I've always had a knack for Excel and would be interested in learning to code as well. Currently working on the admin cert on my days off. It seems like such a leap though since it is hard to get a job without experience. Anyways, this video was very helpful! Thank you.
Hello there. I am a former Software Engineer that had to become a trucker for some reasons. I never heard before about Salesforce. Another angle on this is Salesforce is now strategic. So the skills you need are enterprise level implementation (COE / DevOps / BA / Architecture). So BIG projects, with big budgets and big problems. And you get paid based on the size of the problems you can fix. Big problems = big $$$. Thanks for the video david, I received my first SF admin job last week for 74k in Utah! I still haven't decided which SF path I should choose. There are quite a few; admin,consultant,developer, solution architect etc. Could you make a video on pros and cons of each SF role?
Expand horizontally as well. There are heaps of salesforce developers in India.. No judgement I mean I have many talented colleagues in India, platform II with annual income of 30k. Think about how else you can add value, add on training/ project management... but I must say doing my first exam 5 years ago, more credentials n add ons enable me to maintain a new job at 6 deg after being retrenched at this climate.
I totally agree with you. I got to know about Salesforce back in 2014 during my Masters degree and I completed DEV & ADM certifications at that time. I got an internship on the basis of those certifications only but never got to work on actual SFDC project. I ended up getting full time job as Data Engineer and never worked on any Salesforce project in past 6 yrs.
I kept learning on Trailhead and still get fascinated with Salesforce. But I feel like the technology and platform has evolved so much in past 6 yrs that it looks really tough to get into SFDC development. At the same time, I feel I can still get into SFDC BA or Consultant roles as I am into Consulting now.
What are your thoughts on this, David?

I've worked in the customer service department and the accounts we handle uses Salesforce as CRM. I guess we can say I'm an end user. Due to the pandemic, I'm loving working from home and would like to continue working at home in the future. I can take both paths, as an Administrator and Developer, but I have no experience on coding. Does the learning plan teaches me basic coding or the coding skills needed for SFDC? I have been learning SF since 2018 and at this point, I am not sure what to think. In 2018, I was so excited, but now 2 + years later, I often wonder is it worth it. I have had my admin since Feb of 2019 and I still have not made any salary or money off of SF. Coding may be a better route now.
Thank you for the insights! Very interesting! I'm currently on the last module of Salesforce's Vetforce Business Analyst path. I don't have a job working with Salesforce yet. Times are kinda weird right now with the whole virus thing and I recently started a $15/hr. warehouse job just to somehow generate some income. Problem is, this warehouse job is leaving me with no time or energy to continue making progress with Salesforce's Business Analyst path. I'm considering taking a couple days off here and there solely for Salesforce training, or possibly even quitting the warehouse job entirely and completely diving in head first into Salesforce and staying in as long as possible. I'm not shy about learning code at all and I look forward to it. It's nice to hear learning code might place me in the phase 1 growth section. I'm glad I found your channel. I actually started out to learn Salesforce Admin few months ago. And now I can move internally within my company for much better job. Though I am in Paris so the salary is not so high compared to US I'd say around 45-58k~ (mine is a bit lower). Do you know which Salesforce certificate pays the most? I literally woke up today as a state case worker and just felt like “I can’t keep doing this for the rest of my life” and literally just remembered someone telling me about Salesforce before and started looking it up. What job would you recommend as a transition for the time being as I learn Salesforce? I do have sales experience but would prefer something else if possible. I went back to school and got a BA in Bus. Admin and can’t buy a job right now, thank you again for your advice ❤️

Cool David.. i made my dad learn salesforce for past 3 months , since i started WFH.. he is 40 years experience in IT , worked. in oracle n other old tools like cobal. he loves salesforce.. and completed 60 trailhead badges in 2 months..

Your thoughts on MS Dynamics? Lots of people are talking about Dynamics overtaking SF's core business in a few years. Dynamics can't beat SF head on but the MS Cloud and the range of their products are very enticing for organizations. MS products integrate very well with the biggest tech platforms meanwhile SF hasn't done a good job integrating some of their biggest acquisitions (Tableau, Mulesoft, etc.).

No, haven't seen any deals lost to it. More likely another competitor will take #2. No idea who that is yet

Hi David. I am a 3d Artist currently, and have been fast tracking myself through Trailhead and will be taking my admin certification within the next few weeks. I know that I am basically already done with this path, and I do have an interest to learn some of the coding a little further down the line. I just am worried about getting a job... even more worried after watching this video. I live in the Charlotte NC area and all of the jobs around here (of which there are only between 5-10) ask for years of experience and college degrees... which I have neither of, will just have a certification. Do you think there are ways I could get practical experience in the meantime to look better for employers, or have I completely missed out on the craze and dont stand a chance when compared to an admin who has learned salesforce but also has business degrees and etc?
All the best to you! Many things I'd recommend. First watch my "how to fake experience..." video. Then get more certs. Finally ignore the years of experience "requirements" on job descriptions. I believe if you're willing to put in the work there's a guarantee chance of success. But if you're not then it's better to roll the dice elsewhere. Coding will make things significantly easier but will also have a higher investment!

Hello David, I would like to know if the situation have changed or still remain the same. I've seen your later video you said that Administrator role have been slowly disappearing. How about developers? Are admins taking up the mantle to become dev? Ex-dev here looking to get back into a career change. (almost 30 -- yes i left dev because i wanted to try something new). Like you I've wasted my early career earning a salary developing 0 skill.
Realistically do you know somoen that past an exam in less than 30 days?
I know people that passed 5 exams in 30 days. Many such stories on my site SFDC99.com. As for admin vs dev, nothing really new, the industry still skews heavily heavily dev

I’m just worried that SF dev skills arent really transferable outside of SF/CRM and if it’s too late to get in now since it’s a phase 2 tech. As a graduating student would it be worth it to start deepening my knowledge in SF now? Or should I keep my options open by learning other tech stacks?
Thanks! Yes the younger you are the less I'd recommend Salesforce honestly. It depends on whether you want to take on longer term bets or commit to something that'll for sure be strong in the short term
Get a good grasp of your OOP fundamentals its implementation depending on flavor(C#, C++, C,...). What you learn in school ONLY scratches the surface. Stay busy learning new technologies and improving on the ones you understand. Good luck to you!
