    What you have there is what I’ve been dreaming of for a while now. I’m a commercial pilot and love IFR flying. Could you help me get set up like this? You know, flight controller used and firmwares, antennas and all, just stuff like like? I already have a Spektrum iX20 radio with crossfire installed. Really enjoyed you flight, and thanks!

      Ah yeah, that was a fun little project! lol I wish the foamboard planes would last a bit longer, I'd like to build up something again. They always tend to warp after some time though, maybe the humid air down here is a factor. Covering them with packing tape helps, but they all warp eventually... lol

      I enjoy building foam board and tape fuselage to match the wings that survived past planes crashed.

    That was a nice flight. Gets me longing for next summer. Been a busy year for me this year, so have only managed a couple of flights. Watching this makes me realise how much I miss flights like these. Will have to get my Volantex Ranger fit and ready for next years flying season. I am going to have to give some thought to my fpv system though, i have noticed over the last year that I am getting way more interference than I used to on the 5.8Ghz system, darn cell phone towers popping up everywhere i think. Even at 2 watts the signal struggles to punch through the interference. But really love your videos, they always give me the motivation to do some more flying!

    Is it possible for you to do a start to finish tutorial on setting up ArduPilot currently using INAV but want to switch over. There is not a lot of tutorials out there (at least I cant find good videos) on the setup e.g radio, ground control and settings for Matek boards.
    Current setup is:
    Ranger 2000
    FRsky Q7 bound to a R9SX
    Matekf405 Wing
    Telefly Tiny sending coordinates back to a MFD Crossbow Mini

      I plan to, eventually. I said I'd wait until I get confident in my abilities before making a tutorial. I hate when someone proclaims to be an expert and teachers other how to do something wrong... lol I see it far too much on RUclips! That said, I'll probably never be 100% proficient with all aspects of Ardupilot, there's just too much that it can do, some of which I'll never use. I think I have the basics down pretty good right now though, I'll work on something soon.

    Hi Bonafidepirate :) I just love Your channel, really amazing flights.
    May I ask, would it be possible to make some "build" video or share Your setup and some screens about Your hardware and placement? It would help to speed up the build :)

    How do you look around with the fpv servo while youre still controlling the aircraft? I love this video! Im looking into the dragon 2 or the atomrc killer whale. Id love to do this kind of stuff. I love listening to the aircraft too... can you hear it while youre flying?
    Thank you for your time.

    Great video mate 👏 About the gaps in the HD video, try to set the camera to 5 minutes loop recording in the settings! Long recording videos will indeed lose more than 2 seconds on each split! This is a problem in the Hybrid's firmware and this tip solved my problem :)

    • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  2 года назад

      Thanks for the tip! I haven't heard that before, but will certainly give it a try! It's one of my only gripes about this camera... lol It's one thing I really like about the Runcam HD 4K, just dump all the files on the timeline and they're already synched up with gaps anywhere, same as a GoPro... lol If it does indeed work for the Hybrid I'll probably use the HD from it a bit more. ;)

    Fantastic. You were talking about different prop efficiencies. I had some junky banggood 640 props, they were called KingKongs, they came out when companies started making indestructible miniquad props...any way, those little junkers were really super efficient. I still have them on one of my long rangers. They balanced out pretty well too. Enjoyable flight. I need to go check you out flying under that cow shed. I remember the first time you flew out there you seemed to be eye balling it lol.

    • @iforce2d

      I still have some of those, they're pretty good, I never had any complaints. Would be nice if they were 6045. The 5 inch ones they made for miniquad at the time were pretty good too.

    You mentioned at about 17:00 that other planes you have are more efficient in terms of watts/per mile. Unfortunately, I can't really understand what you said. Can you write that ?

    • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  2 года назад +1

      Hey Spike! I started using QGC purely for the aesthetics, I liked the way it looks better than MP. I still use MP to set things up on the ground, and use QGC only for telemetry while flying.

      lol They know it's me, no one else in the area flys anything R/C. I've often wondered if I've disturbed anyone on a hunt sitting in a stand or something like that, but one day a guy told me he was out making a hunt and heard my plane overhead following one of the bayous out in the woods. He knew it was mine, said he though it was pretty cool!

    Nice video! Do you like the Qiotek air speed sensor? Also in your setup did you connect the static side tube up as well?

    • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  2 года назад +1

      Yep, Qiotek sensor works fine! I do have both port connected, static and dynamic. I'm using a brass tube sticking out past the nose as you can see in the video, rather than the plastic one that comes with the sensor. The square nose on this plane made it so the air hitting the plastic tube was "dirty" and the reading was jumping all over the place. I do use the plastic tube on my AR Pro though, and it's perfectly fine there... lol I could probably make the plastic one work on this plane with proper placement, but I had this tube laying around so I used it.

    Actually, this bird designed take video by GoPro, (w/out any homemade pan/tilt) and pictire would be much better.

    • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  2 года назад +2

      Obviosuly, but I have no desire to stick a fixed mounted GoPro in the nose. ;) The only one I fly a GoPro on is the Skyhunter, which has a pan and tilt for the GoPro. :p
