The current Ebola outbreak in West Africa began in Guinea in December 2013. From there, it quickly spread to Liberia and Sierra Leone. Cases also appeared in Senegal and Nigeria, and there was another outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Today, Liberia is at the center of the epidemic, with more than 3,000 cases of infection. About half of them have been fatal.
As President Barack Obama announced that he would be sending American military personnel to West Africa to help combat the epidemic, VICE News traveled to Monrovia to spend time with those on the front lines of the outbreak.

The mentality of many of the Liberians is quite amazing. "No, I'm not afraid because I am doing this for my country", "If I don't do it, who will?"
They're dedication is astounding.
There's nothing to be afraid of if you know why you're there.
most africans have this mentality, they were even surprised that the guy was asking. they are unspoken truths. resilience is what makes us humans amongst other things but the west sometimes forgets that and are shocked when people say these things
Eve Mnyr yeah becuz the west is no longer made up of nations they're just platforms for markets...back when the west was mono racial/cultural they were like that, they were proud and nationalistic
@@marcuslarwa9098 Wow, really? It's like "well, we warned you." Weeks later, they are sick and dying.
I really respect about that guy saying that. Atleast they are trying all they can do. The hospitals are full and there are not enough doctors to face the disasterous disease. They all need to get their act together. I do not think this kind of fear is enough to activate them. After all, it was 2014, I wonder what they are doing about it today.

Who's here after the coronavirus outbreak? Just me - okay
MVIIOS it is so scary bc the symptoms are very frequent to have like fever, runny nose, cough, sore throat etc.
How tf is it like Ebola, it’s an entirely different virus. Ebola is 10x worse than coronavirus. Coronavirus is a easier way of explaining it is like the common flu, but it is just a more aggressive type. As long as you have a proper and consistent hygiene, you will be fine.

There is 7.7 billion in the world and only 20-30 people have died which have been mostly the elderly due to their immune system being weak and 800 - 1000 people are infected. Paranoia gets the best of people I guess.

It was good that he told the reporter in a very objective and impacting way what he really needed to hear, basically stop snooping around and go home, this is not the place for you. At 7:47 when he was considering to go talk to the group of people that were vomiting and having diarrhea around the place I facepalmed so hard, like, "wtf man, are you dumb or what?"

Alperr stop waffling lad, its been under estimated now look whats happened, its alot worse than fucking flu
@@jamesoscar3083 can you explain how is it worse then the flu?
Wow i've noticed thats most africans speak english very well compared to other continents
This country was set up by former US slaves, the capital Monrovia is named after US president James Monroe. The former slaves did their best to impose their American ways on the locals. Speaking English was one of the things they tried to impart on the local population. That was one of the first hurdles in Liberia's troubled history.
Yes most Africans speak better English than you see on the Internet from a teenage American. That is because Americans never take the time to learn and master the one language they speak. When another country learns English, they learn it correct.
It's their primary language. All it is is English, but with an accent. People from other continents usually have poor English because that's their second language.
Hajima Hajima Fuck off

When the medical chief was talking about the treatment center and how the camera team shouldn't go in, it was truly horrifying, there was death in his very eyes, we might be past this, but we must not forget, for the people who we lost in this deadly outbreak, and for the future of humanity so that nobody has to suffer like this.

Ebola is transmitted through bodily fluid as long as you don’t kiss someone take in their saliva or blood you wont get infected.
Why isn’t the reporter wearing protection gear.
Ebola isn't airborne...not touching your face, hand sanitizer, and not touching others and you won't get it

jordan belfort this is inconsistent with medical records.
Covid-19 is SERIOUS!!! And not just dangerous for the elderly!!!!! I am a healthy 23 year old athlete and it almost killed me!!!! Actually research it don’t be a freaking idiot. Covid 19 causes puss pockets in your lungs and people who die literally drown because their lungs are full of fluid. Pneumonia in lungs is clear and kind of looks like a spider web. Covid-19 is white and you can’t see through it because they are full of mucus.
@jordan belfort because kids can have weaker immune systems that cant fight against Corona. If you acctually look not just come up with theories, then you will see that people who are over 70, young kids (or babies) and people with critical illnesses, are vulnerable because of their weakened immune systems
@jordan belfort Mate, I live in England, and we have been getting live updates by NHS everyday. And from what they're saying is that the scaring on the lung tissue is there because when you have recovered from Corona, your immune system is weaker. Leaving other bacteria to take over your body which is causing permanent scarring on the tissue which can cause long term illnesses or most likely death. Now you have a point, but people who have a strong immune system only have a 2.4% chance of dieing. If you do a deep deep deep web search you will acctually find malaria, Ebola, measles and even chickenpox have more chance of killing you. So those people who are healthy but died to Corona must of been unlucky. Maybe they had a severe case where they had shortness of breath. Sorry that this is a long paragraph just want to clean the air.
All these people who come from outside and help are true heroes. As much as I love to help and volunteer and the local community I would never be brave enough to do something like this.
I can't believe the reporter even thought about going near infected people.
Why should he care? He would come back to America and be cured within a few days. Those "infected people" don't have his luxuries.
The issue that I have with him is the fact that he was stupid enough to put everyone at risk of getting infected e.g. interviewees and camera crew.
*****
I still wouldn't risk it.
+Bat Man yes but some of those people are vomiting and "toileting" so he'd be at high risk if he enters a confined space (like a house) where they were doing that
Red Hood but one type is can be spread from the lungs like coughing and sneezing. Plus can you imagine accidentally touching something and casually rubbing your eye. Oh the bacteria coming through an exposed cut? Think...look at some of the people who are spraying the contaminated areas. They are wrapped up more than a mummy.
These paramedics are heroes.
