  • A walk through of the 1000 square foot one story cabin house that is inspiring our latest cabin project at our farm! 2 bedrooms, 2 bath, full laundry room and a wide open living space with kitchen - including a big screened in porch with triple sliding accordion doors that open off of the main room. We rent this AirBnb property located in Buda, Texas every year in the winter for a month to write for our websites - and it has become our favorite floor plan ever! We are now planning to build a replica here this summer with a few Ohio modifications, including a fireplace or two! You can check out all of our DIY projects on the website at oldworldgardenfarms.com/categ...

    FLOOR PLANS... I contacted the builder on 06/03/2023 and was told by the very friendly owner that her and her husband designed it themselves, and do not have plans that they can share that are finalized yet. She said that they are planning to finalize them soon, and that she would keep me on her contact list and let me know as soon as they are finished. She said that multiple people have made the same request, and that she is keeping their contact info. I will update this post as soon as I hear back from her. Hope that helps.

    It is beautiful indeed for a cacation get away. For Ohio the one thing i would definitely add is a vestibule. An air lock that is large enough to hold a coat closet and somewhere to sit snd remove winter boots and things before opening the inside door to the rest of the cabin makes sense both from a comfort and an energy efficiency standpoint.

    One of my pet peeves is exposed wiring for entertainment centers. You put all that time effort, and planning into something that pretty and practical and then you have crappy wires. That is so easy to fix when you’re building something. It’s actually easy to retrofit any house to be wireless, but it’s no excuse to build something and not have the wires hidden.

      I’m in my 60s also. One thing you might want to change in this floor plan are the cement floors. They are hard on the joints and if fall you are sure to break a bone. Might want to go with lux vinyl.

      @Thomas63r2 2 дня назад

    • @kenhurley4441
      @kenhurley4441 2 месяца назад

      Not the best design for a disabled person. To build an ADA home all interior doors must be 36" wide. Closet and bathroom doors are too small. But with slight modifications this could be achieved! Start with the interior of the house and draw/build out. You'll probably come out to around 1,000 - 1,050 Sq. Ft. I've designed a 900 sq. ft. home with 1 bedroom with a 2nd bedroom upstairs. Heating and cooling it with a 2 zone mini-split system. I'll also be installing a fresh air system to prevent sick building syndrome!

    I loved the floor plan of “Frank’s” cabin. We live in Ohio (Mason) and have been actively looking for a wheelchair accessible cabin to rent for a short get-a-way. We just got back from Hocking Hills and stayed one night stay in their new lodge…we wanted to stay in a cabin but found none so far that was truly accessible(a bar in the bathroom does not make a living space accessible). Anyway the cabin you showed was almost perfect…I agree with you ..a great floor plan. In my dreams I wish we could build one but that’s not possible but we could rent one for a few days. The only thing that we would need to change for our adult daughter would be a bit wider hall ways and doors into bedrooms and bath. The bathroom would need to be accessible as well. The cabin will be so nice with a fireplace🥰. Would you consider renting your new build cabin in Ohio for short stays and would you consider a very few modifications to make it truly wheelchair accessible? There is a market for it since people in wheelchairs like get always too. Thank you for sharing the cabin.

    Personal preference incoming.
    1) Push the fireplace wall about 8 -12 feet and center the fireplace on the roof pitch.
    2) Put a tall window on each side.
    3) Replace the front porch doors withe widows currently on the fireplace wall in the dining space.
    4) Make the porch wrap around to the back deck.
    5) Shrink the cabinet pantry to one door width from floor to top. Move the Microwave.
    6) Turn the island 90 degrees and lengthen to fit 3. Make the counter top deeper.
    7) Even though the the fireplace is centered, keep the living and dining side by side. With the wall pushed 8-12 feet more space to accomodate heat and foot traffic. Install a built in for tv multimedia if wanted.
    8) Resize laundry space for only stackables and a basin with a removable countertop for folding. All extra space goes to master bath/closet.
    9) Wall up top windows in Master, turn bed 90 degrees onto wall with top windows.
    10) Replace windows on back yard wall with a slider and porch access.
    Boom! I'd buy one.

    Slab radiant heat can be 93% efficient. Why screw that up by installing gas fireplaces which are NOT efficient. Ohioizing equals making things less efficient and requiring more maintenance. My home is 1700 sqft r80 walls r112 roof in floor radiant heat with a combo boiler for my hot domestic water in michigan. My heating bill is $50-70 per month includes domestic hot water. Cooling with a multi head mini split 1.5 ton system. Cost in summer $40-50. Invest in insulation and reap the rewards for the rest of ownership.

    OH MY GOODNESS that is a gorgeous cabin/house! I would change a few small things like putting an electric fireplace/entertainment center in the corner with the TV on top to have the always on fireplace and heat if/when necessary without the cost of gas and the cost of wood. Its much easier to press a button compared to cutting, or buying and storing wood. LOVE the tall ceilings as it makes the room feel and look much bigger. Love the back porch with huge wall of glass sliding doors. Love the open floor plan, eliminating the walls makes it feel bigger and open. Love the open shelves in the kitchen. The only one thing I would love to be bigger is the laundry/utility/pantry/linen room. Mine is a 8'x10' coverted bedroom and it has my washer, dryer, standing freezer, pantry, linen closet, and wire shelving for extra storage. I guess I would just push out the wall of the laundry closet to make it about 10'x10' and pretty much keep the rest the way it is in the video and just make the second bedroom a guest bedroom/office.

    I love this home. Do you have a floor plan/blue prints for sale. I especially like the stonework. Watch this video all the time. Thank you for sharing

    Could you please send a link to the floor plans? Looking to build in Alaska you mentioned an Ohio re-design with fireplaces and on demand heat. I would love to see plans with those additions. Love this house!

      We will be creating one in an upcoming article for our build at the farm - we will also release a video of the house build - just wanted to start with this walk-through of the inspiration.

      @@oldworldgardenfarms2749 - I think that is awesome and will be looking forward to it. The idea of a heated concrete floor is just fantastic. And I think this, as a concept, is within reach of most people.

      Buddy, sorry you are making this plan in Ohio. I'd be going somewhere else. Ohio is Beautiful, but now toxic. God Bless.

    Nice and roomy, well planned; however, I would like to drop the ceiling in the living room and put the vents in the wall. My experience has been when vents are in the ceiling, even with a ceiling fan you lose a lot of heat. The footprint is great. I was wondering the cost.

    Very nice, would put in wood or pellet stove, only concern is security with all the nice glass.

    Cement floors practical but not good on many older bodies. I'd still need room for books & media & seasonal storage. Still, nice. Thank you.

    It's nicely done for one or two people, but the echo when the narrator enters the main room is considerable. Stick two loud kids inside there on a cold day with the doors closed and you'd have a nightmare! There's a good reason to have separate rooms.
