i like that the vehicle is almost as much an optimus prime as any actual optimus figure, it just really has the right sense of spirit to it. the long-nose cab also gives me movie prime vibes, as if it were reaching through time to capture the essence of an optimus prime that didn't exist yet
Action Masters are cool, and I loved this thing. Prime is the size of an unwound Truck, and THIS TRUCK is big enough for him to drive! Imagine trying to overtake a block of flats on the motorway!
I'm really glad you brought up the micromaster connection, because looking at the size of the Action master playsets like this one, and the Micromaster playsets like Ironworks, I'm really surprised that there was no connectivity between the two. It looks like it would be so easy to slide a ramp or a connecting track to stick this Convoy to the rocket base.
Action Master Optimus's yellow eyes and increase in blue alongside annual Bumblebee's red visored face are some of my favorite alternate looks that don't appear enough.
You know. This has made me have a small idea, some third party company should go about remaking these action master playsets to fit with the RED transformers we got recently, they are basically action masters+, so why not give them some updated variants of the vehicles?
Now, just for shits-n-giggles, I want to see an Optimus Primal driving a truck and an Optimus Prime riding a gorilla, just to piss off the rabid 'trukk not munky' and 'King Kong Prime' fanbois. Wait! Hold up! Idea incoming. How about a triple changer Prime that turns into both? A robot that turns into both a semi _and_ a gorilla? Just to see all the "fans" foam at the mouth in rage. xD
Action Masters are one of my top two G1 subgroups, the other being Pretenders. I'm not turbo keen on just a regular robot mostly but something about them being transformers and existing next to transforming robots just recontextualises the whole deal and makes it so much more interesting there's RED and those Super7 Ultimates but they're different enough from the mainline toys that it just isn't all the way there. if only they would make some deluxe-voyager AMs that matched the generations aesthetic... if there ever was an actionmaster pretender it would be the least transformery transformer ever
I had this when i was a young lad, the front truck/jet section was my favourite part, many hours playing with that flying optimus and his pals around the house.
When the Action Masters were released, I was starting in college. I was still collecting toys. I had a job and money to spend. I bought Action Masters, Pretenders, Micro Masters and even, dare I say it, GI Joe. When Beast Wars was released, I was all over that... Sorry, Off topic. I had the Optimus Prime. I actually used the trailer and cab with the Micro Masters more than anything else. It was a neat little toy to explore the Transformers universe. And yes as a college kid I still played with my toys. For some reason I was alone in college. No dates, no girls would talk to me, so I just played with my toys. I don't think the 2 situations were connected at all, but...Oops, Sorry Off topic again.
One of Funpub's last concepts, had they not folded, would have been Titans Return Laser Prime into Action Master Prime. Unusually for Funpub, it actually looked good.
The toy is good, but its the box art that blows me away. A gang of Autobots all blazing away on a giant truck like they're in 'Mad Max'. If I ever have kids, that image is getting painted on the wall...even if its a girl!
1:44 they look like they're in a wee funfair ride you'd see on the shore in the summer you know, like one of those ones that spins you around a lot and costs like £2 to ride
I have the Microman '99 retool of this. It came with a Microman to drive it, and was cast in a very nice green color. The figiure is around 8cm tall, and fits easily into the cab. Overall, I thought it was a good retool, and it was interesting in that back in the 80s, several Microman toys were rebranded as Transfomers (Megatron, Soundwave, Blaster, and the minicars), so having a Transfomers toy become a Microman toy was neat 'what goes around, comes around' situation. There's probably pictures of it on the web somewhere, so it wouldn't to hard to see what it looked like.
Looks like a fun toy. Reminds me of a MASK vehicle, especially with the transformation. Now if only Action Masters weren’t the primary Transformers toyline of that year. Then maybe most fans wouldn’t be too harsh on it.
Only action master I own is grimlock, who I got as a freebie with some other stuff. I keep meaning to track down his accessories-- he looks a little lonely without them, even now that he has reaction grimlock keeping him company.
Hey, it looks a lot like the Armada one! That truck is absolutely incredible, all the different base modes and the ways you can peg the little guys into it are wonderful. I guess that's the play pattern they were going for with Titans Return, eh?
There are sticker sets out there that can turn TR Voyager Prime into a pretty credible Action Master Prime. FunPub had planned an Action Master-focused box set that made the obvious connection, but they folded.
@@manjackson2772 Nah, it was the Voyager, since that has a tanker truck mode and all. The Leader of the set was planned to be Megatron as a reworking of Sixshot.
They looked so much fun on the box... I do miss my Shockwave one. I wanted the Megatron set, but my mum said "We'll see" which meant exactly the same as "no fucking way" and now I am [REDACTED] years old and I have a couple of shelves* of Transformers that I have collected. *slightly understated this bit about the "couple of shelves" but if there is one thing I have learned in the last [REDACTED] years of my life is that you can say any old shit and people will eat it up so why bother ever telling the truth, eh Boris?

Optimus Prime: If I can’t transform into a truck, then I’ll drive the biggest, most heavily armed one I can find.
X-Men and Action Masters teaming up feels fitting

he has knees!? miraculous! toys have come so far since the original Optimus Prime figure, known far and wide for its... uh. knees.

I think its a scale thing, the vehicles would be huge
They could do em for the Super7 action masters as well. Just a neutro-fusion tank the size of an average dog
Six-inch scale vehicles tend to be stupidly expensive. Look up some Star Wars Black Series vehicles and cry.
Always love the little Quip at the end of the video, really ads something I dont see often online
seeing optimus driving a truck kinda breaks my brain... now if there was a truck driving a giant robot, well, that'd be pretty ridiculous too 😂
Well, there are robots piloting other robots so nothing surprises me.

I think closest you'll get to a truck driving a giant robot is Megas XLR
@@insanimal2 Had to look that one up-- that looks frikking awesome 😂

The fact that RED is NOT doing Action Masters BAFFLES me
I heard they were gonna repaint Titans Return Prime into this for a BotCon that never happened. Would've been neatsauce.

Y’know… if you really squint… this almost looks like a… no…
It’s a *BATTLE CHARIOT*
*_BATTLE CHARIOT!_*
Congrats on making a better Transformers/X-Men crossover than Hasbro
Ha ha Armored Convoy... I see what they did there. Very clever Hasbro.
1:44 they look like they're in a wee funfair ride you'd see on the shore in the summer you know, like one of those ones that spins you around a lot and costs like £2 to ride
The elevating turret looks like it would be great to use if the Autobots visit an outdoor concert and arrive late.
G1 Action Masters = MOAR DAKKA

TFwiki has a page on Microman, I think it has a picture of what you’ve got.
@@mechanwhal6590 there was a pretty in depth section for Microman '99 on the microforever website (if it's still up).

The 80s were something else in regards to articulation lol. You’d think adding just 2 extra hinges would be minimal effort but alas
The armoured convoy has a great color scheme. It's all Primary colors, but with a cheddar yellow-orange. Reminds me of Star Convoy.
I bet we are getting a laser prime repaint with the er trailer of this
“Who wil join me? Who’s willing to to give up their power transform to become faster, stronger and more alive!?”
Honestly if these were still a thing when I was a kid I’d kill to have had this
The box art is so fucking cool. Love those feet pegs on the toys
I'm loving these action master reviews. More please 🙏
People say Action Masters were the last nail in the Transformers' coffin, but i really liked them as a preschooler.
Pre-High School right?
@@TRDQ Right. And i still don't give a fck if a Transformer can't transform. The Super7 Bombshell, Banzai-tron and G2 Megatron is on my wish list.
hells yeah, truckdriving Optimus Prime
You...
...you're evil, because I've been wanting this one
The trailer battle mode reminds me of G2 Laser Optimus's trailer battle mode.
Optimus should give Phoenix a ride to the Moon.
BRO DID YOU HEAR SKULLGRINS GETTING A NEW FIGURE IN LEGACY WAVE 3?!

Action masters are cool and always have been
transcendent! great review 👏
Autobots! Transf... Well Shit....
I miss when non-transforming figures did this instead of just sitting there like RED figures do.
Is it me or did Hasbro simply recycle the gimmick of MASK (transforming vehicles with pilot figures) for Transformers? Kind of a cop out innit?
Maybe - but a fun one
MASK was fine but the figures were juet boring humans. Action Masters did it better
Oh damn I made a comment about how next you'll be collecting Mask, but got in too late. Okay, I'll just change my comment to something different...
hello there
GENERAL KENOBI
General Kenobi!
General kenobi
what have I done
Greatness because the prequels are good
Sorry but no, this was a toy of my childhood I don't appreciate this transformer if you can even call it transformer.
