I met Doug Bradley at a convention one time and I asked him why the sudden change in Pinhead's demeanor in this movie. In the other 2 he was cold and calculating. He basically told me that after he died in the 2'nd movie, he was feed and was acting on all the suppressed impulses he had. I said, "So he was feeling a bit giddy then?" Doug goes, "That's not typically a word I would associate with the character but I take your meaning." That really made me laugh.
U forgot to mention that we see pinhead delighted, happy when he shows up in the boiler room and starts the carnage. An epic scene. Pinhead totally happy & free!
don't want to spoil the new movie..opens up a plethora of new hellraiser based movies.. the auditor spin-off, Kirsty re-unites with elliot Spencer, the butcher prequel..etc ...yes you will get surprised!!!
Hellraiser: judgement wasn't very good. It was more gross than horrifying. It felt like a SyFy network production. I did like "the Auditor", he was the only interesting character.
I was never a fan of this one. In the first two Pinhead was this intriguing, mysterious creature that was beyond traditional notions of good and evil. The third film just turned him into a bog standard cacklingly-evil horror monster. There's nothing aside from aesthetics that sets him apart from the likes of Freddy, Jason, Leatherface, and their ilk. It took away everything that made Pinhead unique and interesting. Unfortunately, that's a common theme among horror sequels. They boil away all the subtle undercurrents that made the movie special and we're left with the same old in-your-face murderfest we've seen a thousand times before. Take the Saw series, for example. It started out with this cool mystery element that really explored how the two main victims' lives were intertwined and how people with every reason to hate and fear each other might react if their lives suddenly depended on one another. Then, as the movies plodded on, they just devolved into "What new gruesome ways are they going to mutilate and kill people this time around?"
Sad the actress that played Julia said no. However, Julia pretty much got killed with finality just as Doug Bradley’s Preacher did (I refuse to call him Pinhead because that is NOT what the creator of these characters had in mind).
I really liked this movie I love the expansion on the mythos I like that we meet Elliot and how the window of her mind in the end is the window to everyones own hell and all of her friends come to kill her I liked it a lot as for the acting...well I grew up with it so I can forgive them but I watched it recently and I still like it not everyone has to agree with but all I am saying is it does have it's audience
i actually prefer 4 though i think both were under done neither as good as 1 and 2 and 5-8 aren't really hellraiser just forced to be don't get me wrong it feels like hellraiser in other movies and don't even start to the massive screw p that is revelations
This holds kind of a special place for me. Parts of it were made in my home town. The scene where they're chasing Joey down the street and stuff is blowing up is in front a police station.
I liked Hell on Earth ... it is all 90's. I love it. Anyhow, I liked Hellraiser Inferno but to me it was more like Se7en crossed with Groundhog Day. I would like to see Joey make a cameo in another movie. (If she hasn't been snuffed in a comic or something)
When I first saw the church scene my jaw dropped! I was like HOLY F*CK!!! Hilariously blasphemous!!!! Loved it and also had the same thought as in 'how was this ok?'. I was in highschool and at a friends cottage in the summer. It was like a thing to watch 'scary' movies late at night there. And I most def had a few beers in me and by the end was laughing hysterically at the cynobites. 1rst two are def darker but I still liked this one.
Mr. H, I see you took your video down. I feel terrible that other people feel like they are entitled to tell you what to put on YOUR channel just because they are subscribed. I know you were sticking to your guns for a while, then I don't know what happened. I'm sorry you had to do that. I'm a big fan of all your work as are a lot of other people. We support you Mr. H!!
I've got this on a boxset. I don't have much love for it but the creations are good. I was lucky enough to see the Pillar in Bob Keen's studio at Pinewood, along with a life-size Pinhead figure. Brilliant and creepily realistic artistry, even without the cameras. The film has moments but the characters are awful and they made a huge error in trying to Freddy Kruegerize it. Terrible dialogue. I laughed at the "Jesus Christ" "Not quite." delivery, though.
I was pretty young when this came out and honestly I watched it specifically for Pinheads sake. That and the good ol ultra-violence ;-) Story wise it did suffer but I still hold this as one of the best sequels outside of Bloodlines. Just my opinions though
This was the first Hellraiser movie I watched, and I consider it to be the best after the second one. Hellraiser 3 also has the best Pinhead quotes, like: "I'm gonna enjoy watching you bleed, and I'm gonna enjoy making you enjoy it" & "Don't debate with me girl, just come here and die while you still have the opportunity of doing it quickly" Oh, and this classic: J. P. Monroe: "Jesus Christ", Pinhead: "Not quite!"
The Church Scene WOULD make it last censors now. It mocks Christianity, which despite being a religion, is totally acceptable to mock in the current day. Now if it were another religion, then it wouldn't make it past them due to the "bigotry" of the scene.
darren p my own Father got me into these films when I was fairly young. I've got some of the comics and some of Clive Barkers books. I love his work. Mr. H truly does the series justice in his reviews.
Yes, I remember back in the day after watching the first 2 and being so excited for this 3rd installment to come out, only to be massivly disappointed. The new cenobites were a complete joke designwise, many of the central characters were unlikable, and the only redeeming qualities of this was the backstory of Pinhead and that the ending connected directly into part 4. Interestingly, I recall reading that Doug Bradly liked this one the most. Thankfully, the next one was a great improvement over this one and was kind of the final chapter in the Hellraiser saga from a chronological perspective. Great job as usual, Mr.H!
The movie as a whole is definitely inferior compared to the first two, but it does have a few saving graces. I liked the way they expanded Pinhead's backstory as well Doug Bradley performance, I feel this movie has some of Pinhead's best lines, and a cameo appearance by Armored Saint, one of my favorite bands. Aside from that, the cenobites, the supporting performances, the kills and special effects could have been done much better. The scene where Pinhead is pulled back into the box makes me cringe everytime, even with that budget they could've done that scene better.
I don't understand why this movie got flack. I enjoyed it and we got the back story to Elliot becoming my beloved Pinhead. The slaughtering in the club was awesome. Tbh, you don't watch HR for great acting. Lol The church scene was iconic to me. My problem with the franchise starts after HR 4. The life messages in HR are what's important. I liked the cenobites. People have to remember they had to keep it watchable for mainstream media aka the movies. Most has gone to video. These types of movies have a hard time getting a passing grade rating wise too. I appreciate your review but this time, we'll have to just agree to disagree. 😘
What a bad movie. A few good scenes in an otherwise terrible movie. It starts OK for the first say 45 mins then it just goes horrible after that. By the time the psuedo-cenobites arrive that's it, it's irredeemable after that. I actually use to say its not too bad but after watching again recently I could almost feel the vomit coming up lol. Especially after watching it straight after the first 2. Bloodlines I do enjoy however. I know that is far from a masterpiece but it has a lot more to love than 3 and actually adds some good stuff to the lore. Hell on earth is truly a shame as it was so close in date to the first 2 movies they could of made a great sequel with original cast members still around. What the hell were they thinking. I assume it was a cocaine fueled production and no one stopped to ask "what the hell are we doing?"
Mr H I don't think Paula Marshall was that bad, her character was supposed to be kind've a ditzy bimbo to begin with and she pulled that off nicely. I think that might come off as bad acting to some. She pulled off the crying scenes pretty well IMO and she looked scared shitless when Pinhead finally busted out of his pillar of souls! That blonde chick who gets flayed was a horrible actress but you could also make the same "ditzy nightclub bimbo" argument for her performance as well. IDK, it's up to the viewer in this case, Hellraiser 3 is a strange sequel.
what Pinhead did to her was evil by skinning her when she was alive=making her very ugly without her skin like frank cotton in 1st film but pulling her into the pillar then to hell afterwards
This was the point at which Hollywood shook it's glitter all over it.. That said though there were moments and concepts in it. The fourth one was in a similar position, though this brought a wonderful history into the fold.
Totally agree with this review. If you pay less than a little attention you notice this movie is dumb. They tried to compete with Freddie Jason Mike and old Bubba with these dumb sequels. However Doug Bradley is always great as Pinhead. And if he wasn't in all the sequels it would have been worse. Unfortunately they misjudged that it can go without the other 3 original cenobites
I always thought the Cenobites in this film were simply "rushed" in that Pinhead needed foot soldiers quickly, and didn't have time to crank out better quality minions.. Hence the somewhat corny/shoddy versions we got instead.
I love the Blasphemy of the Church scene.........Kinda goofy when the Priest runs up and says "You will burn in hell for that" proceeds to get bitch slapped LOL
This seems unrelated, but you should do a video on Lord of Illusions. Reasoning: he goes up against Pinhead in The Scarlet Gospels. Now, the Pinhead in that book is very very different from the one in the movies, but they are both interesting universes that have canonically came into conflict.
This was really the first Hellraiser film I watched as an adult I wasn't really able to watch the first 2 I wasn't allowed anyway after watching the first 2 this one is crappy I love the first 2 Doug Bradley is amazing and I liked Julias evil ass and Frank, Kirsty too
I'm t hunk the reason Joey is back at that war setting in her dream was because that's were here father was killed. Well left alive and his troops left him supposedly to die from the movie.
The World don’t beat to the sound of just one drum, what might be right for you may not be right for some. For me personally this film diverged too much away from the ethos of the first two films and was just a cash cow really building on the momentum of the growing fan base of “Pinhead.” I love your Hellraiser videos and your passion for this series. Could happily talk about the books/films all day. (I absolutely love them) Looking forward to the new film although am slightly nervous.
1-3 made sense. The 4th one really confused the hell out of me. 1-3 kept to Elliot Spencer the 4th one claimed that he was never human and has always been in hell.
The original premise for HR III was for Julia again to be the main villain who starts a suicidal cult for Leviathan! It would have been a much more interesting concept! But as usual, the suits know more than the creative people who really make things! This mentality is what destroyed HR IV! The producer refused to have his name attached to the released result of the all-knowing suits and the decline of the franchise and theatrical releases!
The Pillar scenes are some of my favorite Hellraiser movies, where the subCenobites are really wonky. The disc guy, the smoker, the guy with the machine on his head. Too much.
I like this and the second movie. The second movie made Pinhead, not knowing his true self, a sticker for the rules of the box. Then when he finally remembers, he became something more. The third movie brings Pinhead back to life, without his human concious. That is fine and all, but when they become one, Pinhead should have acted like himself in the second moive, when he regained his memories. This whole thing of making Pinhead the demonic figure that is only out for the pleasures of Hell is just stupid.
After getting put down with too much ease by Channard in part 2, I was at least happy to see Pinhead as an actual menace. Along with the church scene, the nightclub massacre salvaged the character.
I actually believe that having "Julia" become the villain that surpasses (or joins) Pinhead would've been a great idea, and kept the franchise true to its roots. Even bringing "Frank" back in some capacity would've been good. There's still time to save this franchise from those mediocre sequels.
I've seen all of them. Doug Bradly is the ONLY one who can play, Pinhead. Same with Robert Englund playing Freddy. Ya just don't mess with perfection. I hated the recasting of Pinhead in the newer movies. That was just a slap in the face to DB who did want to reprise his roll. The new movies suck. Ugh! Great vid as always, Mr. H.
Mr H Reviews Yes. I know this. Something about Clive and Doug not getting along. I watched a few videos and articles to support this a few odd years ago. :)
I personally didn’t hate this film at all. It’s a lot better than part 5-9 IMO. I know I’m in the minority but I think 3 and 4 are a lot better than most critics say. Critics don’t determine my tastes. There’s not enough pinhead in 5-8 and the pinhead in 9 was just a joke, period.
What? People bashed the first two films for questionable acting? Maybe some extra here and there did not deliver an Oscar winning performance but the overall acting was quite alright, far better than most films with such limited budget can offer.
I marathoned Hellraiser 1 through 3 one summer as an angsty teen. I didn't mind 3! It had more of what my weird deluded teenage mind wanted- more pinhead and cool kills. But yeah, besides the 4th installment the series went downhill faster than a lead balloon. Crossing my fingers that Judgement will be the revival we need!
All the best scenes belonged to Pinhead, especially the church scene. I still don't know what the hell they were thinking when they created the 3 stooges cenobites. According to IMDB, the budget was around 5 million $$.
Yeah, after the first two, this one kinda devolved into slasher film territory. Terry Farrell (Dax from DS9) was in it. Many kills, and a lot of one liners. The film is quotable though.
I love this movie. It's fun and campy (which Hellraiser should never be, but still). But I disagree that it "chugs along nicely". You say that several times. I swear when I watch this, which I just did today, I fast forward to when Hellraiser is in the night club. Before that the movie is sooooo boring. I don't care about Joey or Terry, and there's like 100 god damn boring Vietnam dreams. Ugh! I do really like the 2nd...half (maybe) of the movie tho. And the pseudo cenobites a lot tho.
I met Doug Bradley at a convention one time and I asked him why the sudden change in Pinhead's demeanor in this movie. In the other 2 he was cold and calculating. He basically told me that after he died in the 2'nd movie, he was feed and was acting on all the suppressed impulses he had. I said, "So he was feeling a bit giddy then?" I did like the Elliot Spencer backstory.
then you will like the new Judgment movie...

It’s about Attempting to satisfy the fan base. What do you think is the number one thing fans wanted? MORE PINHEAD.
Pinhead was separated from his human self making him purely evil with no rules or boundaries. This was dougs (pinhead actor) favourite hellraiser
@@shanenephilim2727 which sort of makes no sense. The cenobites had a blue/orange morality before
I'd argue Freddy isn't 100% pure evil. it was never proven he actually did what he did in the original movie before they took his child away
Sad the actress that played Julia said no. However, Julia pretty much got killed with finality just as Doug Bradley’s Preacher did (I refuse to call him Pinhead because that is NOT what the creator of these characters had in mind).

I abso-fucking-lutely hated Inferno when it first came out, but it's really grown on me. I'd put it in my top 3 Hellraiser movies now.
Famous Pinhead line "We will tear your soul apart". Brilliant🤗😎
Eliot Spencer is stuck between limbo heaven and hell it's the soul that was freed in the second one 👍
did you give yourself a thumbs up? lololol
This holds kind of a special place for me. Parts of it were made in my home town. The scene where they're chasing Joey down the street and stuff is blowing up is in front a police station.
I would have liked to hear Pinhead read bedtime stories as he has such a soothing voice.
What’s hilarious to me is that this movie was filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina. They did an ok job passing it off as NYC.
Surprised they didnt call it "Pinhead takes on Newyork"
Haha! Yeah, because hell on Earth sounded like it should have been total hell on Earth. The cenobites totally free and fleshed to do what they do...
lunatiksAlterEgo New York not Newyork
Wasn't it set in L.A. actually? It certainly seemed more L.A. then New York.
@@Nick_Nightingale It was filmed in North Carolina. Tax breaks, maybe? True it mostly doesn't look like NYC apart from a few stock footage scenes.

My guilty pleasure movie. The nightclub massacre is a highpoint of the series and Pin-Head is surprisingly well written here.
One place the Hellraiser series messed up is they stopped using that bell sound whenever the Cenobites showed up.

I like the movie, it was something different and it opened the door to pinhead's wild side.
This is ten times better than judgement.
To cut Pula Marshall some slack, this is her first project.

I watched this in the nineties. Yes it was very mintiest. Their should have been a grunger in there too
I really they would make a 2 part movie on " The Scarlet Gospel" that would be amazing...watching Pinhead fight Lucifer...amazing
I live near where this film was shot in Greensboro NC .
Church scene is great. Indeed.
I kinda like it lol. Just rewatched it after so many years
I've seen all of them. H.
Doug Bradley refused to reprise his role for the latest movie. It was his choice
Mr H Reviews Yes. I know this. Something about Clive and Doug not getting along. I watched a few videos and articles to support this a few odd years ago. :)
I would like to see a explanation video on the ending of Hellraiser 4, on Pinhead death... Could evil really die
I was done after this movie, like I saw the one where they were in space, and Hellraiser Deader, but that's it.
This movie was worth the Hellraiser music video by Motorhead.
Doug Bradley played Pinhead in the first eight movies
Crossing my fingers that Judgement will be the revival we need!
just saw "judgement" something mindblowing happens to Pinhead at the end of the movie..
+Moiz Audio how did you see judgement?
got my copy via amazon, used a american post box.( jetcarrier service)
+Moiz Audio I think you need to burn it to you're computer and send it to me 😂
nice one...it should be VOD on youtube next month i guess :D
I love when they r running from pinhead and the hide in a church... so cheesy
All the best scenes belonged to Pinhead, especially the church scene. I still don't know what the hell they were thinking when they created the 3 stooges cenobites. According to IMDB, the budget was around 5 million $$.
Yeah, the church scene is epic
So the hell razor is kinda like the starwars series
Spartan A111 Hellraiser*
Like *raising Hell.*
NO
Hell Razor would be an epic name for a death metal band
"Its not a fantastic film, not even remotely. I'm shitting on it in this review... but its not all that bad." lol
like macdonalds, you know its bad food, but you like it all the same.
Shall we begin?
I don’t know why they didn’t have felixson as a cenobite scared the shit outta be in the books 😂
Jesus Christ!!!!!!!! Not Quite My sister says that line to this day.
You are right that this is the first of the film's to truly suck
i'm sorry pinhead will always be THE Hellpriest to me no one will ever take his place. however they could continue without him.
are you going to review all of the Hellraiser movies?
+Troy Lucas more than likely
cool i have only watch the first five movies are the rest worth watching
More Hellraiser/Clive Barker-related videos, less Kardashian-related ones, capice?
+DoctorPretorious616 I'll make whatever I want. Capice
Watched in the cinema. Was so disappointed. Bloodlines broke my heart. I’ve been done ever since
Yeah, after the first two, this one kinda devolved into slasher film territory. Terry Farrell (Dax from DS9) was in it. Many kills, and a lot of one liners. The film is quotable though.
Liked this movie.
Only thing I didn't care for was the Pseudo Cenobite that threw disks around like shirukan.
And the pseudo cenobites a lot tho.
god i hated this movie when i saw it, what they did to pinhead and cenobites was criminal, he was basically a bad reskin of freddy krugar at his worst
I happen to enjoy this movie
+jarrott anderson oh I enjoy it, it's still bad lol
Mr H Reviews True.
