  • In this talk, Jeremiah will demonstrate how to leverage the new workflows and rigging / animation authoring tools in Unreal Engine including Control Rig and Sequencer. By working in context, artists can stay close to their creations without having to bounce between software packages, making it easier to iterate quickly inside Unreal Engine. Find out how.

I'm not that much of an animator, I do more game logic/modeling/level design. But... I've done enough animating to know how much of an incredibly slow and tedious process it is - exporting, importing, re-exporting, messing with settings, dealing with skeletons and bone names, etc etc... These new UE5 features are potentially going to be a MASSIVE game changer, saving hours upon hours of work. Heck, at this point I could probably start doing some in-engine animating myself. VERY exciting!!!

Coming from a 2D animation and 3D animation via Cinema 4D... 2022 I think is the year for Unreal engine... I have minimal interest in game creation but Im just scratching the surface in UE5 and my mind is blown... especially the lighting and speed of the viewport... years c4d i almost dont want to touch it ever again if I can...

One of the biggest features !! Being able to create functioning rigs in engine and animate them all in the same place they will live will save so much time. I want more features like attaching 2 rigs together and animating them simultaneously (for things like First person arms & weapons) maybe an auto rigger tool that way we could set up a control rig once and as long as our bone hierarchy doesn’t change we could press a button and get a functioning rig..

Great video! May I suggest though, run your microphone audio through some processing while or after recording. It sounds very echoey, like record in a bathroom or something. I love those HyperX headphones (I use them myself) but the mic quality isn't that great without processing.

I'm just starting with UE but I like to watch this more advanced videos just to have an idea of the posibilities, this way at least I know what I don't know but at least I know that exists (paired with saving the link in favorites for reference!). For example that Backwards solve is something I would never expect to exist. Thanks for the very useful video!

Thank you so much Epic Games for explaining the process. Without this i would have felt overwhelmed while learning UE

I haven't been able to figure out how to animate multiple control rigs simultaneously. Is there a way to make characters interact with each other? The space switching feature seems to only work with objects local to the character. Also would be helpful for weapon animations where it's 2 independent control rigs.

Where is the darn apply button in the animation editor in unreal 5?
I want to make minor changes to animations but the darn button is missing to apply the change. Where did they hide it?

In Sequencer? You have to key the animation the circle with plus, on the body part u changed.

Great vid, Jeremiah - these new features are really exciting! From a pipeline standpoint, do you see the Control Rig/modified uassets now as source? From a high-level (as least the way I understand it) this approach fractures some of the anim development process -- as source can now bridge two authoring environments. How does your team handle this in terms of asset organization?
