After coming here 15 years and preparing for my retirement buying cars building houses and purchasing motorbikes living here debt free loving every minute tinkering in my shop, life is great!
Selling everything, check. House on market, check. Offer accepted, check. RUclips name created, check. Lord willing I’m less than 60 days from my start!
Lived in Cebu for one year. Left May 2024. Returning in December 2024 and will stay until the end of February 2025. Getting away from the winter weather in USA. I enjoy the weather and cost of living in Philippines but not a big fan of some of the food (they serve rice with everything just like in the USA they serve bread with everything) or quality of medical services. I have SRRV and PhilHealth. Also have USA health insurance from retirement that will reimburse me for most international medical expenses. I did do research before moving to Philippines in May 2023 and gathered useful information from numerous different vloggers. Philippines is what you make of it. Living in the Cebu Metro Area I found most Filipinos to be indifferent, a few resentful, and a few friendly. I found the friendlier Filipinos in the rural areas rather than the metro areas. I will probably move back to Cebu in 2026 full time. I do enjoy Paul's videos both for informative content and entertainment content. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
Gentlemen you better have deep pockets. If the ladies don’t take it the hospitals will. I went to Dumaguete 10 years ago, got married and Visa’d my wife the hell out of there back to the UK. Best move I’ve ever made. She has been a wonderful wife and has been rich enough and free enough to leave me for over 6 years and here we both still are happily married and will retire back to dumaguete both as Philippine multi millionaires. I didn’t just change my life, I changed hers and both of us changed the whole families. If you settle in Dumaguete on a basic pension you will be forever competing and paranoid that you’ll be pushed aside for a richer counterpart. The girls there are not educated, they have no idea of the real world. These are not my words they are my wife’s. Good luck gentlemen. Enjoy the magic of the Philippines
"If you settle in Dumaguete on a basic pension you will be forever competing and paranoid that you’ll be pushed aside for a richer counterpart." Just like if you take her back to the West.
I discovered when I lost my leg in a work accident that the majority of people are nice and helpful. That isn't to say that there is not some Butts out there as well.
At the point where you guys said "It's not for everyone." I am completely open minded to the idea of vacationing in the Philippines with the possibility of finding a spot that I really like with the possible thought of "making that jump." Only thing is, my wife is diametrically opposed, and opposed for all those archaic reasons of years ago, with no interest in learning otherwise. In fact, she becomes instantly angry at the mere mention of this topic. And all at a time when we were in between homes having sold one, with a nice bank account and decent pensions. So when you said, "It's not for everyone", I'm living with one. Thanks guys!!
Thanks Paul, I feel a whole lot better about moving permanently to Dumaghete area now. I have been a blogger for over 20 years and hope to contribute to the community by offering free consults and sharing my knowledge with vloggers like yourself. I look forward to meeting you and Alex and Mike when I come there in January. Im an old guy but I still have plenty of "piss and vinegar" left in me and so far I'm still healthy enough to be useful.
Well-being is often tied to meeting friends and enjoying a social life. When I first arrived in Cebu in 2006, I was told that Dumaguete was where all the tall, beautiful women were. Perhaps that explains why so many people are drawn there, haha. Many foreigners likely have a partner or wife with family in Dumaguete, which comes with its own mix of challenges and joys. Once you feel connected to a place, it’s natural to stay.
That's funny you used the windshield wiper example. I utilized RUclips to change my windshield wipers just 1 month ago. Also learned to put on tire chains for the snow about a year ago.
What he says at the start is so true. As a wise expat once said to me, every foreigner in the Philippines is running away from something back home (relationship problems, failed marriages, career disappointments, or just a disconnection) There is nothing inherently wrong with that - just a desire to start over or reinvent oneself.
Really? I know a couple of people who went to dumaguete, got married and brought their wives back to their home country. Perhaps they just want a better woman than back home.
I don't think I am the exception...I ran to "something". I was a widower who found a beautiful, loving, and caring Filipina in Dumaguete. I became an expat to enjoy my final life chapter with a woman with whom I can share my life. I came to escape the toxic turmoil of the USA. I have met Mike and look forward to meeting Paul and Alex. You guys are perfect examples of what the USA has to offer the rest of the world: compassionate understanding and acceptance. I hope you will continue to collaborate.
I think that the guys who make the move overseas have become so disillusioned with their lives in the West that they want to find out if an alternative lifestyle can change their outlook. I moved to Thailand 15 years ago and worked for me. I'm still content living here, and I have a lovely caring Thai wife. I also think that the lovely weather and warm smiley faces helps.
I was a go get-er before my divorce. I used to take her to work then go get-her. Now I'm just a giver. I giver hell... Contribute when I can though. Y’all go see Goldfinger’s latest endeavor. Give what you can. He gets a great price for the tablets for the kidos!!!
Another excellent interview. Rick (Richard Charles Jarrett) has been spreading the rumor that you are dead but his video got banned by RUclips. Serve him right. By the way, Alex, I agree with a few commentator who suggest you smile a bit more and focus on the positives. Respect you both for your sincerity and integrity, which Rick Drama, A.K.A Ho-Chaser does not have.
Nobody, and I mean NOBODY goes to the Philippines to take. What are they gonna "take"??? The majority of foreigners pay more than any indigenous person pays. That's why a foreigner husband or boyfriend should never go shopping alone to the local frest veg market. Obviously, shopping at a supermarket is different due to barcode pricing.
Yep an that drives up inflation and causes no benefit to society. They are taking housing from a native and a wife to be... 99% of foreigners are a hinderance to the community. Once they die non of the family can survive without the foreigner. Stop pretending your helping when you give a fish instead of teaching to fish... shits sad.
Greetings Paul, been one of your "crazy people" since you started your channel.Been to PH. twice but always through Manilla,Feb will try Cebu entry.Covid interrupted a move there.70 now,my long term Filipina, Camarines sur.Desirous to fellowship with you this time, then look at Iloilo.I am fairly sane and no burden to society financially so maybe a coffee?Hope your health remains good.Regards to Mae. Michael Bolletino
I believe that is the guy who did videos on chartering a freighter; a subject of interest to me. If I ever did come over, why not see how much I could bring; maybe my tools, and art collection, or is it supposed to be a religious experience, where one strips down to nothing, and rides a bird over like a wild cowboy, trusting in the God of all his fathers he never knew, while hoping to live by faith, and faith alone?
I live in a vacation spot where many Northern retirees settle also. The area is growing very fast and rents and property prices are sky high. I tell my City's leaders that we need to prepare for the changing demographics of the USA and our area. By 2050 the US will be a minority majority country. White people will be less than 50% and hispanics will be the next largest group (each group of Mexicans, Venezuelans, Hondurans, etc. -- will be competing with each other for power). Then there are many other groups from Asia and Africa doing the same. This means that the retirees planting their nest egg in my City will not be white. This also means that all groups will have choices of less expensive places and countries to retire. Perhaps Mexicans will retire to Mexico and Indians to India and Chinese to China etc.. All groups will have the choice to go to countries unfamiliar with their ancestries. White people are already retiring in droves to every country. After all, if I can't find an English speaking clerk at a Walmart -- why should I stay where I am already like a foreigner in a foreign land and pay high prices for the privilege? Why not simply move somewhere else with my wealth and let that plus my Western manners and appearance make me special there?
how many high school girls are being diddled by senior citizens.... Yeah thats almost as creepy as Biden Losing 320000 illegal children to sx trafficking... You know who u are and you are being judged.
Remember, if you are brown skin color and migrate to another country, you are a "immigrant", but if you are white from the U.S. and travel abroad, you an Expat. That name in itself is a change.
Paul I know you’re new to this, but I’ve been watching old dog new tricks for probably three years now and Geo and the Filipino pea and now you and a few others at Mike’s Filipino retirement and I will be in doom the yeti on 18 February this coming year and I hope I get to meet all you guys. I kind of feel like you’re already friends just because of the information you guys give out makes me feel so much better about the choices that I’m making because I know I’m on the right path and I’ve got the tools necessary. At least I think I do in my head to make it work over there for a long time. It was a big question because I knew right after I traveled to Thailand in 2013 that I was going to retire overseas at some point.
The Philippines has a lot to offer . You can learn humility, satisfaction, patients and respect. The multiple islands offer serene beauty and adventure ❤️
What would a foreigner take away from the Philippines? I have been visiting the Philippines since 1989 and I have taken nothing from it that I have not legally paid for.
How about humility Respect Non judgemental happy people that can live on very little . Genuinely a happy culture Beauty of the islands 😍 You may have been visiting for years , but your eyes were wide open and blind , you have learned nothing What a shame
a family land an livily hood from a local... Oh did you not want the truth? Did you take a local back to your home country? No ... just went an colonized a new land... good job.
I guess you guys have not heard of using filters. Women are almost all using them all the time. Everyone can win the handsome contest and be a Brad Pitt. LoL!!! But it raises the question if all the men and women are using filters is handsome or beautiful the same anymore? 🤣
Watched Alex's channel, and I'm sure he is a decent person, but as a youtuber he has too much baggage from his childhood. Can't watch his videos since he always has a negative spin on life outside Philippines. Reason I stopped watching Mark (Everyman) because he has nothing positive to say anymore other than "poor him" and his "escape stories".
VLOGGING: I've been thinking about creating videos for some time now along the same lines. My challenge is the technology, especially the software used to edit. What do you guys use?
you talk about the fairer sex which we rate a 1to 10. anyway, I don't rate guys on that scale. I rate guys 1 to 3. 3's are handsome, 1's are the other side of the coin. The other 98 are 2's. I'm a 2
Legends in your own minds.
You blokes live in your own little Duma bubble and really know jack outside of that.
Heh! It's not Monday. Why have you got a bee in your bonnet? A bit grumpy today, are we? Relax. Your gonna' get ulcers.
Unnecessarily aggressive, time of the month? 🤔😁
Thought if you were into reefer you'd be a little more mellow. 😉
One word you are jealous 😂😂
live and let live

Don't do it. Back out. Visit the Philippines first stay for 2 years and then decide.
@ some choices in life are made by yearning desires, & some are made by necessity. This one I can safely say is both.

"If you settle in Dumaguete on a basic pension you will be forever competing and paranoid that you’ll be pushed aside for a richer counterpart." Just like if you take her back to the West.
So if you have $40,000 USD this makes you a Philippine multimillionaire (2,000,000 Pesos). Congrats!
I discovered when I lost my leg in a work accident that the majority of people are nice and helpful. That isn't to say that there is not some Butts out there as well.
Old dog is so cool he can walk through a jungle in a tweed suite and not sweat
Well, I must admit, I've taken my whole life. But, from that I have given to so many. My whole life I've suffered from the Robin Hood Effect.

Nice to see Paul is still alive with the drama of the Dumaguete vloggers.
Carful man some of these guys are a bunch of back stabbers
Good interview kuya 🎉
Iv learned so much from Pauls videos
Its great that you can provide a positive effect on the community that you guys do

I think a cooking video with Mae cooking traditional dishes would be fun
Expats contribute monetarily, and receive a second lease on life.
Yep expats drive the prices up so locals cant afford to live anymore... ur not helping...
Sounding good Paul take care of those eye balls!

Please don't forget the update on your house, Paul
I thought Alex was leaving and going back home? Maybe I heard him wrong, from another interview? 🤔
Happy Thanksgiving Paul and Alex 🦃
Will be in the Philippines next Thursday. Met Old Dog last year hope to see you again.
Enjoyed the interview. How much longer will you be in the wirness protection program (j/k). All the best to you and BM.
Hey Paul, I watch your videos for the young guy perspective you give.
Seems like a bachelor course graduate
Alex is very natural and authentic like you, Paul. Great interview.

@@Chris._P._Bacon neither color, race or sex has an impact on either term, immigrant or expat.
Just too many channels down there, I will stick to the old dog for my Dumaguete info. Good luck on your YT journey Alex!

Happy holidays to everyone
Nice informative video 😊
The Philippines has a lot to offer .

where the house update that was supposed to be every week now?
Delayed due to health issues, next video will be about the build
Good guest, a good person I guess.
ALWAYS better to give :)
Always better to give
Dear Paul loved your video you should change your name to Wise old Owl.
If you're in jail, you better be a giver, not a taker, just saying
ALL convicts are givers, by definition. The big honchos got their backs, if you know what I mean. Wink wink.

Paul do miracles: put a smile on Alex face 🤣

Assuming the role of a negative Nancy this is what the Philippines needs is another You Tuber. LOL
I never get bored watching your videos, Paul!

It’s so boring it’s like just add this guy around again like pass the parcel we don’t want that get something fresh
