My two boys are my biggest expense. I AM bill free, rent free, and most importantly, Stress free.
So I guess for those skinny jean wearing objecters, I do have expenses. It's just pocket change.
If those same skinny jean wearing complainers have an issue with that, You can Waaa! Waaa! Waaa...! somewhere else.
Living on four hectares, no neighbors is the perfect life for me. Living the true Sigma-male, Guru taught lifestyle. Nothing matters and it's OK! to be selfish. Because if You cannot take care of Yourself first, You cannot help others second.
Remember this! You cannot be looked at as other peoples problem solver. Or You will have the swarms of people asking for help. And You're left with nothing to help Yourself.
GUESS WHAT! You cannot live in the U.S. on social security. Because the U.S. government will suck You dry into homeless.

I'm a Filipino who came to US in California And became a naturalize US citizen. I was thinking when I retire I will go back to the Philippines for good. I heard the I need to apply dual citizenship in order for me to stay back home with a time frame of getting penalize for over staying in the Philippines. Is that true and what process do I need to do to get my social security pension to be remitted to my account in the Philippines and can I open a bank account in the Philippines even you are a US citizen.

People believe their currency has the worth it does because they have no other option. Even in a hyperinflationary environment, individuals must continue to use their hyperinflationary currency since they likely have minimal access to other currencies or gold/silver coins.

@@Ex-Pensive_Expat I know you can do it. I live in Melbourne Australia, one of the most expensive cities, I save half my pension every fortnight yet still live a good life. I'm single, live in a Mc Mansion, share with several others. Drive my car although only 3rd party property insurance so I drive carefully. I'm a body builder so I have gym membership and eat a high protien (200g)/day plus plenty fruit/veg. I dress better than the majority of people I see. Play in Poker Tournaments 3x/week. I have a laptop/smart phone ect like everyone else. I come to the Philippines for a month each year but I do have the goal of spending no more than the pension income for that month when there, I enjoy myself. The key is to not waste money needlessly, I don't drink much, don't smoke, don't gamble, don't do drugs, don't date local woman, too expensive for too little return, I expect this will not be the case in the Philippines. As a single man my rent should drop to a quarter of the current amount that I pay here for somewhere clean and functional of course it won't be the same as where I am currently residing but I'm not so egotistical, I just need what I need. Same as here I will cook for myself local fruit/vegetables/meat/fish/eggs ect so the costs will probably be the same or even lower. I intend getting a scooter but really love the public transport in the Philippines jeepneys/buses/trains in NCR, avoid the tricycles prefer walking as the skin tax irritates me. If it's a bit slower I don't mind, I just enjoy the local vibe checking out life swirling around me. Should need a VPN so that I can watch the shows/ movies ect back in Australia. I intend settling in the Cavite/Batangas area, close to Manila and ferries travelling to so many islands from Batangas City so it should be pretty central plus I know expats in the general area if I ever need some western company. Just packing the last Balikbayan boxes ready to ship and should be back in the Philippines permanently in a matter of weeks, I will be so happy to be away from the cold here, spent a large part of my life in the tropics and outback where the temperature is often between 38C and 48C during the day in the shade so the Philippines is like coming home. One thing that I do love about the Filipinos is their ingenuity and ability to make the most of what they have no matter how little that may be. They inspire me. Just my two bobs worth. Cheers Aussie John

I had a few thousand in savings when I first arrived so I was able to buy a small motorcycle for me and a 3 wheeler EV for her plus furnish our house ( rental) with everything necessary...... Its a bit precarious living month to month on such a small amount but we're making it by ok ..... Id still rather be here than in the US because I didn't want to work the rest of my life just to survive and I love the tropical climate and friendly people!.... Of course you can and eat exceptionally healthy as well, avoiding most or all processed foods. Some videos floored me saying you need $2000-$5000 month, wondering what kind of lifestyle or if they are way overpaying. For those who cannot be frugal and/or paying for a lot of others, it isn't possible. The litmus test is doing the math on paper and see if the numbers add up. You'd be surprised what you can do if you manage carefully. Kudos to this expat for showing us how.

@jerryteague6508 Best plan of action is do some initial research, and then plan an exploratory "suck it and see" trip (2 weeks minimum). Many expats miss out on this step, and just sell up in the US and move, sight unseen to Philippines - very, very, very bad idea. I've known people who didn't even last a week. You'd be surprised what these exploratory trips can reveal - For example, I thought I'd be a "province boy", but I found myself quickly bored in the province. After initially hating the place, I ultimately fell in love with Manila, and wouldn't live anywhere else in Philippines, although I do have to escape to an island every now and then. Good luck!

Retirees who struggle to meet their basic needs are the ones who could not accumulate enough money during their active years to meet their needs. Retirement choices determine a lot of things. He changed several things like furniture . Finally his wife said for 40 years you drove a hour to work 6 days a week. Worked 10 to 12 hours a day and drove home a hour. During that time the house was mine and you slept here . So she didn’t want any of his changes . So he bought a two bedroom trailer and went back to work to pay for it . A couple of nights a week he sleeps in the house and a couple of nights a week she walks down to the trailer . Their both very happy .

My motivation for possibly coming there is exactly the things Darrell talked about in this video. I want a much slower lifestyle, I want to be surrounded by nature and most of all, I want to be with people that are kind and friendly. I get so tired of such poor attitudes and all the negativity in America. I grew up without a care in the world and saw that money does not buy happiness nor contentment. I was the true rebel in my family and saw worth and enjoyment out of friendships and simple experiences, not trying to appear perfect and keep up with the Joneses. I want to connect with others who have the same mind space. Who appreciate the little things and are not full of ego and desire for materialistic possessions. I would feel more comfortable living in one of the condo buildings at first. I have no clue how to fix up anything and was wondering if Darrell or Paul might be able to recommend an area. I would really appreciate that. Thank you!

A very interesting and uplifting interview Paul. Not a lot of people maybe will replicate what Darrell is doing 'exactly' - but -some degree of it or % of what he is doing could be done for some people and help their situation ? Attitude is a big part of his success and transformation - simply because he has the "goodness of fit" in who he really is - as a person ! A wonderful addition to the locals and they welcome him with open arms. He helps the community provides some work for them and uses their services for transportation. His success comes from also providing for some locals ! = A - win - win scenario.

Wow Thank you for the kind words. We all be need a base line ($600) in order to plan savings, material purchases and other living life activities. In my case living like that I have another $1,200 of discretionary income for what ever else I choose. So I am doing well. I am doing better than most in this country. I have just completely evolved and adjusted to a completely different mindset than those who still live mostly in a western way of thinking which also works awesome for them. These days I find more pleasure and joy experiencing activities than collecting material possessions. So I live more frugal than I ever did but I also travel more than I ever did. I live about 250 meters from the pier in siquijor town. my wife has a place in the province and I escape out of town regularly to regain my sanity.i also go for trips to other islands and travel around on my bike. 25k is less that 500 US dollars a month. that money is about 20% of my income. Probably the best interview you’ve done with another expat. Not everyone is interested in recreating a version of their western lifestyle in the Philippines. I’m always disappointed when I see videos of Americans (westerners) talking up how well they can live, how big, how more, more, more they can have in the PI. Please, more videos of people like this guy who’s courageous enough to do it differently
Last thing I want to do is travel half way around the world and do what I did in the US. Why move to the PI and sit around in a bar all day talking to other Americans??
