Ah yes, when I began a relationship with a Filipina in Bohol 16 years ago (2007), a British ex-pat and business owner there took me aside and told me that I should be aware that, when you begin a relationship with a Filipina, there is an unwritten rule that you will be expected to support her family, even her extended family. I struggled so hard to keep this business at arm's length but, in the end, I returned to Canada 6 years ago (2017), bringing her with me - so demoralized, distraught and depressed over the never-ending expectations and demands! (Well, at least I survived it relatively unscathed while many other foreigners ended up bankrupt) Now, back in my home country for 6 years, I am unhappy that the Canada I knew and loved as a young man seems to have disappeared; overtaken by a culture of greed and dog-eat-doggedness. It's as if there is no room for a senior citizen with a very modest pension to enjoy life, even a little bit. And so now, your videos have got me thinking of returning to the Philippines. Hi Paul enjoyed this video like all you do... I messaged you told you I just physically got engaged 1 week ago in Manila and sent some photos.... I've known Jen 2.5 years and things are great, the only down side is the heart condition she has but will have corrected at Mayo Clinic here in Rochester MN.... she actually gets mad at me when I spend money on her... wanted to take her shopping for her birthday to get a new outfit.... she flatly said no because she likes thrift stores.... for her birthday dinner wanted to take her to Viking Buffet and even though her meal was free.... mine wasn't so she wanted left over pizza in our room... the 3 biggest things we did was get matching T-shirts from Hard Rock Cafe... but didn't let her see the price till it was to late to say no... but when she found out all she would say is that is 2 sacks of rice.... a Gondola ride at The grand canal mall and saw 2 movies.... as mentioned she has a heart we want to get corrected after marriage... and I can hear people rolling their eyes thinking she's using him she's probably not even sick... I wish with all of my heart and soul they was right... she sends me receipts for her meds and doctor visits as well as test results and most recently a letter from her Doctor... Jen had Rheumatic fever as a child and parents didn't take her to a doctor so Now Mitral Valve Damage his most recent letter said hoping the Doctor in the US who will do her surgery can do a mitral valve repair rather than replacement, but what made my jaw hit the floor its the first time he said she is in heart failure.... scared the Hell out of me.... im gonna do what ever I can to expedite her visa so she can hopefully have successful surgery and complete recovery anyone who would like to offer a prayer for her to God appreciated.... she's a beautiful woman inside and out and I really don't want to lose her this close to finally getting married
MVR repair can be a routine surgery in US. With improved flow the heart can improve. Some weakness will remain but hopefully manageable and she’ll do well. Godspeed brother 🙏🏽

That's why I invest in first trust deeds. You don't have any of the haste of renting out your property. You get plenty of return (7 to 12%) and a very safe investment that pays you interest every month.
If you're not going to own a condominium or group of condominiums the best is to lease to hold that way 25 years plus option another 25 years and you can't be kicked off the property and you could do whatever you want with the property put rentals on it whatever a business

Im surprised that I've never seen a vlogger mention something that was one of the first things that came to mind for me. After a few months i googled private investigative agencys in Ph. I found one that seemes to specialize in background checks in these sort of relationships They confirmed everything she had told me about her was true. I’m chomping at the bit to retire from my job, looking for that right time. This job allows me 6 paid weeks vacation that I religiously take. Spent a lot of time overseas. Took a US govt job in Korea. The govt pays your living expenses on top of your salary so we bought a nice apartment in Korea. It was great while it lasted. First snag, they didn't extend me beyond 4 years because I'd been in Germany for eight prior, and they told me I needed to go back to the states for a while. Second snag, our kids were in 4th and 6th grades and the tuition, which had been free while I was working, without my job they quoted me 20K a year per kid. Nope, can't afford that. We rented the place out for a year as we moved back to the US, then my wife sold it. It was not easy to repatriate that money back to the US, as her bank put restrictions on how much she could transfer every year. Also, Americans are permitted to own property in Korea, but cannot take mortgages. So she took the loan, I paid it, but everything stayed in her name only. Just know all the risks before you buy anything overseas.

I'm 66 and live in SW FL. I rent now after divorcing and although pay a high rent owning a home here is no picnic here at this time. High prices...high interest rates....homeowners and flood insurance costs through the roof...ongoing maintenance costs...and as an example pennies on the $ paid out for Hurricane Ian damage...when something goes wrong I put in a maintenance request and it's taken care of. Thanks for sharing these fails.
We sold our house 6 miles from the beach in SE Florida when our homeowners insurance went up to $7000. Plus they’re only insuring houses that have roofs less than 10 years old. So, we had to also replace a perfectly fine roof to be insured. That and the politics that are in your face everyday. It was enough. We sold and are now retired and renting in Mexico.

The question of rent versus purchase depends on your income and the price of property. In my case, even very cheap rent would swallow up most of my income but it was a modest outlay to buy a property. I had the cash to buy the place so there was not a question of getting into debt.
Buy a condo from the developer... I paid 2.4 m and I have been in it 11 years. Thats about the time the rent receipts is the same as the purchase price. We are NOT to buy land...

I M lucky because my wife already had a house and property when I met her. Any improvements she has made she has paid for. I would say for a foreigner tread very carefully buying in the Philippines. Cebu city condo prices are absolutely ridiculous. Renting is definitely the best option. 👌
Hello gentlemen. With all the firsthand life experiences on the ground with respect to this podcast, it’s very educational and informative specially viewers from the U.S.. Yes, i am a U.S. citizen, 63 years old, married to a professional Filipina for 25 years until she passed away five years ago. I am pretty much aware with the local culture, customs and traditions; including real estate, businesses, health services and other areas of concerns. Absolutely agreed to avoid using fishing rod to catch fish online, 99 % you end up a line without a hook. Great job gentlemen. Stay safe.
Hopefully U.S.Medicare will be available in the Philippines soon,.So text your congress representative in you state to make it happen. If The bill in Congress passes it will be for for a 10 years probationary period. The bill has not passed yet.
I really enjoyed listening to these two gentlemen! They seem like two guys you can hang out with and "shoot the breeze" in a casual atmosphere.
Great advice guys ,
Glad you think so!
Old Dog and World Traveler:
Tks. much.
Great interview, packed with great stories and information. Thank you. 👍👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
Less planning means less goals, means less stress in achieving goals 😆🍻
He has said elsewhere that one needs to change their way of thinking from consumption to retirement. Time is now not money.
Relax and go with the flow.
This was a very good collaboration video Paul. 2 of my favorite vloggers.
Glad you enjoyed it
Paul, great interview. Both of you guts provide honest information, and it's much appreciated.
Guys not guts auto correct sucks
“Know what you are walking into” That is a hard one, many timesI thought I knew what I was walking into…..
Great interview guys, thank you both for your info.
Paul- This was a very well presented humanly video that many already know but all in one video and presentation in this world is everything. Great job to you both.
Wow, thank you!
Very great points! Agreed completely! Rent and stay fluid.😊
Hi mate, Many thanks for sharing another great video. Hope you are well.
Good interview. Thanks.
Thanks for sharing I want to be like you when I grow up 😁👍
Hi Paul, One of your Best, if not your Best tube casts ever. Very smooth and extremely
Informative.
Lucky Ace Las Vegas re met you again at the water front Diner.
Great advice Paul! That's my plan to rent and so I can be mobile and move as I please. However, I do own a townhouse in Suburb of Manila. But I don't plan to live there. Foreigners should consider just rent.
If you do read a condo are you plan on buying a condo avoid HMOs
I came to see you from Dan's channel Paul!!!
I'm retiring in under 2 yrs !!!! Plan on touring around a bit I love the crash and burn stories !!!
Hi Paul from Panorama city California good followup interview
Thanks for listening
Dan is a legend in the travel space ……
Another great video sir and looking forward to seeing the next one
Mighty nice of those grandparents to give their house to the grounds’ keepers❤
Thanks Paul for a great insight into the common mistakes people do when relocating abroad to live a better life. Love your personality, simplicity and words of wisdom. I’ve watched part one of this conversation on Dan’s channel.
I enjoy watching you separately but together you guys are great! ☺
Hey Paul. I might never live in the Philippines but I love the people. Also, I love your videos they usually make me break out into a big smile. Thanks.
Glad you like them!
You have not been financially ripped off by Filipinos. After you have, you will not like them anymore. Not just one, but several disappointed me and it cost a lot of money. No monkey wife for me!
“ultra sound” was the word you were looking for. Great vid! 👍
Enjoyed the video. Entertaining and informative.
Great Video!!! I enjoy so much watching the videos of you and Dan talking together like this. It was nice this was done inside a house where it's quiet - lol
Our pleasure!
Two great youtubers....best info ever
Wow, thanks!
Thanks!
Im surprised that I've never seen a vlogger mention something that was one of the first things that came to mind for me. After a few months i googled private investigative agencys in Ph. I found one that seemes to specialize in background checks in these sort of relationships They confirmed everything she had told me about her was true. Such as marital status, children, living arrangements, workplace. Etc. Plus criminal background check and even asked neighbors and coworkers about her character and her family's character. It greatly reduced my doubt and skepticism.
Paul you are the man. Your so down to earth.
I've lived in Thailand, Philippines and Mexico. I was happy in all three countries but would not own real estate there. Compliments to folks who do own property, but it's not for me.
I rode my bicycle across India
I ran into an American who was retired in India. He inherited $150k and moved to India. I stayed in touch with him for a few years. Last time I talked to him he said he’s running out of money.
Drinking alcohol everyday
The good life 😂
@@markalejandrox
India is cheap. Alcohol is expensive
I’m chomping at the bit to retire from my job, looking for that right time. This job allows me 6 paid weeks vacation that I religiously take. The paycheck/benefits leash of my career pales in comparison to the statement “vacation mode is more stressful than normal mode”. It’ll be there tomorrow. I can watch the two of you all day. The older I get, the greater I was……. That fish is now in the rear view mirror and is no longer in front of you. Meeting the both of you is now on my bucket list.
Very sane and sensible advice Paul and Dan❤❤❤ more power to both your channels guys, stay safe and God bless 🙌 🙏 👍 🍀
In Costa Rica a can of Campbell's Tomato Soup from the US is $4. Meanwhile a can of Maggio's Tomato Soup from Mexico is 55 cents and twice the size, better and without all the preservatives that will embalm you Pre Mortem. Glad you brought that one up.
Note: Campbell's can soup is approx $2 where I live in the prairies of Canada 🍁Ridiculous! So buying it in Philly for that much I can do without complaining lol
Lots of good simple common sense advice 👍
Great great video! I subscribe to Dan’s channel also. Great couple. A lot of wisdom here. Thank you Paul.
Best advice for anyone wanting to meet a woman overseas.
'Don't even make an online profile'
'Get your boots on the ground & take it from there'
Brilliant advice Paul & Dan.
Great video guys. Some very useful advice.
Very good video
Thanks
This was great! Just a couple of great episodes. Thank you both!
Excellent advise.
Great conversation!
Loved it
I'm 66 and live in SW FL.
I just moved from SW Fl so I feel your pain. I am moving to PH in a few months and cant wait t to get away.
@@robertnunn3015 Here is a little FYI, I have a friend who was married to a pinay, they divorced and he is now having great success in Columbia.
And property taxes gone up as well
I think I'll just stay in the states.
I don't want to be a guest on one of Paul's Jerry Springer episodes
2 of the best sharing there knowledge. Thanks Paul and Dan
Hey Paul, great channel! I've watched dozens of your videos (and others) and I don't think I've heard anyone talk much about financial support for the wife or girlfriends family. Perhaps a lot of guys have no idea about that or what they should consider giving the family when they are in a relationship or married. That might be a helpful video to watch. Thanks for all your fantastic info. I'm going to Thailand in November for a vacation and check out retirement options there.
Sad but truth! perfectly said. Great information for everyone 👍
Paul, luv this but one very important thing. You can buy a Condo and own 100% of it. BGC, along with Cebu as an example. The values in BGC are increasing yearly, like in the US boom days.
Do your homework guys. The ladies aren't going anywhere. Slow down, there are more ladies to chat with and the Philippines are amazing! There's no hurry!!!
My buddy and I own a lot, via our wives, on one of the Camotes islands.
We paid $3,000.00 for it, 6 years ago.
This winter I will check to make sure none of the expats who built around our property have infringed on us.
Judging by the pictures my buddy’s in-laws sent, we now have utilities close, plus a nice, paved road! 😅
We paid for a survey, and have official title.
It's not just expats that will be close to your land locals will claim that part of your land as well
@@hillbillyintheasia6122 My buddies in laws are saying all the construction is by expats, in our situation.
Fortunately, we have official documentation, as well as a legal survey.
This conversation is very helpful and right on !! Love the two person format.
Thank you so much fellas as usual awesome info muchly appreciated)
Paul how to you acquire maintenance prescriptions in the Philippines? I have some medications that I will have to take the rest of my life.
I'm really glad that you two met. I remember suggesting to Dan to contact you regarding and American Dan met that was having a difficult time getting back to the USA. That was about the same time Paul met the ambassador and asked Paul to be a liaison for Americans having problems in the Philippines. I know I was not the only one that suggested to Dan to contact you Paul. My understanding is this man was able to speak to people in the embassy and get back to the USA. Anyway thank you guys for your content. Tom
You two on video just a blast 💥
You are talking about finance and government stuff just thought you would like a song called " Rich Men north of Richmond " 👍
Great information for the geezers contemplating living in the Philippines!
I will definitely not be in vacation mode 24 seven.
Even though I can afford it, that kind of shit doesn’t interest me .
This was a great discussion. Glad you guys got together for this and collaborated very helpful information. 👍
Interesting video. 👍
Great video and thanks for the advice
Hallarious but great information and advice.
You guys are very knowledgeable and professional about the things that can go wrong in the PI. I can’t wait to retire in 7 years from now. Thank you for the smart tips and suggestions. More power to you both. Thank you thank you thank you❤❤❤
Preach! But I understand....
Great Video/Interview Paul 😊. Dan is a smart guy. Living the Dream for sure.
I can Totally relate to sending money to people in the Philippines 🇵🇭. I have literally sent Thousands of dollars to four families paying for a house being built, funerals, weddings, schools, motorcycles, corn crops, ect......... The very BEST word that a guy needs to get in his vocabulary is the word NO. It sounds like harsh however, when sending to much money affects the way you live can cause serious problems.
Safe 💕 💞 🙏 🙏
😮Keep sending. A the scam goes on. Why don't you have maybe 30 0r 40 family that you provide for.
The regular can of Campbell's chicken noodle soup is about $1.20 in the Navy commissary here.
Not in the Philippines it would cost you three times that much at least double because it's imported and they are tariffs on it
Paul... Thanks for the honest info. I contemplated moving there and have concluded that I have a renewed interest in remaining in the U.S.
Another great video Paul.
I would wait till I moved there and talk to Paul before trying to find any women and make sure my life was on track before getting into a relationship. Am still not sure what to do, but if my rent goes up, I may decide to move to the Philippines and give it a try. My income right now is $1800 a month and I keep things simple. Hope you're still there at that time, Paul because I know ill be lost, lol. I was in the automotive biss as well and work the same years in the same part of town as you, Paul. Thanks for the video, Mike
1840 will put you in upper middle class based on a Filipino income monthly middle class is $89,000 pesos a month for middle class in the Philippine
This is another really great video on a really important topic. You are my hero!
What could go wrong? Very good interview guys.
Very refreshing Paul, like always. Thanks for a great time and cheers from Panama
My pleasure!
Good advise 👍
Great video!
Excellent
Thank you so much 😀
The biggest train reck might focus on men’s clothing styles as going tropo seems to be the modus operandi
hello from Algarve Portugal. very good advice about property and relationships, vacation mode.
Paul you are comedy gold and informative and interesting with your channel a great source of entertainment 😎😇🎯
I've been subscribed for a year.
Lots of information is given in an entertaining manner. 👏
Then, on one episode, Paul casually mentions he dropped 40 pounds since he arrived in PI. 😮
This is worth at least an episode. There are people that would come to PI just for the weight loss.
Details?
It’s likely the heat lol😅. I lived there when I was in the USAF and was down 27 pounds. It’s literally like a spa. 😊
The question of rent versus purchase depends on your income and the price of property. In my case, even very cheap rent would swallow up most of my income but it was a modest outlay to buy a property. I had the cash to buy the place so there was not a question of getting into debt.
Good point!
Buy a condo from the developer... I paid 2.4 m and I have been in it 11 years. Thats about the time the rent receipts is the same as the purchase price. We are NOT to buy land...
Great video.!!! Thats what its about
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Guys hit the nail on the head, never purchase properties in Asia full stop, you hear of some horror stories, with the country's Governments, and marriage failures, as the visitor will never get anything back if it all goes balls up..
You guys do make a great video together .. funny and on point !!
