  • This is my longest video yet! Someone in the comments of the last episode wanted me to include more of my dads thoughts on the albums. I tried with this one, but I didn't want the video to be overly long!! Would people sit through a 45 min video of mine?
Again, due to RUclips guidelines I did have to censor the album covers containing nudity.
Tomorrow is my birthday and I do have a scheduled upload planned, although it meant filming two videos in one day!

I have to say, this is probably the best new vinyl/music appreciation channel on RUclips. I think a lot of us “older” viewers enjoy the enthusiasm and opinions from a younger fan and your Dad has excellent taste.

It's great to see a father and daughter share a love for the same styles of music. My kids called my musical taste "old fogey" music and now my grandkids call it "boomer music" lol. A couple of quick comments, I love the Frank Frazetta's artwork on the Molly Hatchet albums, Phish is one of the best jam bands EVER, and Leslie West never had the success that he deserved and I loved the band he put together after Mountain with Ginger Baker and Corky Laing. Unlike a lot of reaction channels, I love how to you go in depth about the music and the bands. 👏👍🤘✌️

You should do a Spotify playlist. We share a lot of similar musical tastes but you've brought the younger enthusiast out in me which takes me back to vinyl hunting which I rarely do. And you've both introduced me to some gems. Amazing to watch you both share your passion. When I was a teenager we'd record each other compilation tapes in order to turn each other on to new music - You should try including a couple of tracks from each of your favourite Artists / Albums - A top 30. I would thoroughly enjoy that on my long commutes.

Wow! Quite the collection!! Again, thanks for sharing your collection, awesome video and loved the commentary. Totally agree with your Dad about Stewart Copeland and Fun Fact----"Vida Blue" was a very famous and excellent baseball pitcher in the 1970's. He also pitched for both Bay Area teams (SF Giants; Oak. A's) so he was a very very well known and popular figure during the decade and still today.

I've kind of run out of superlatives with the tour of you and your Dad's collections. When I saw the Burrito Bros. album yesterday I wagered to myself that Gram's Grievous Angel would show up today. Got to see Skynyrd several times in NYC back before the plane crash. They were crazy. Van Zant would throw half empty beer cans out into the crowd and the two guitarists would prance 10 rows deep into the seats up the flanking stage walkways. Long time ago now.
You must ask your Dad how in the heck he's kept every album cover we've been shown in such pristine condition. The more recent stuff I understand, but I've got a copy of Filmore: The Last Days and have taken good care of it. Still can't keep the white cover from yellowing somewhat. Your's looks like the day it was made. Amazing.
Super enjoyable. Thanks for treating us.

So many wonderful albums! I suggest that he adds a couple more Santana albums, like the first one, and “Welcome” and “Love, Devotion, and Surrender” with John McLaughlin. Also I saw The Verve’s “Urban Hymns”, that is a great album but more poppy compared to their first full-length album “A Storm in Heaven”. He needs that!

The Rolling Stones "On Air" is not an old album though. Old recordings from the BBC but was never officially released as an album until recently..
Second, Mick Taylor's last "passing shot" was not on "Exile.."! He was on both "Goat's Head" and "It's Only Ro'n'R" afterwards.. It's small details but it counts ;)

These videos are really fun! I would suggest finding a copy of Khan, (very hard to find on vinyl!) which features Steve Hillage and Dave Stewart... just a fantastic one of a kind early prog album. Right after Khan, Steve went to join Gong and Dave to Hatfield and the North. I'll also say that the two Hatfield and the North albums are essential if you enjoy the Canterbury stuff.

Carole King Tapestry - excellent what an opening. Animals as Leaders? - Modern Prog. Cool that father and daughter can nerd out to their favourite music. that's priceless. Phish, another band for me to check out. "Abraxas"- played so many tracks from those albums. I remember John Peel playing the Undertones album all night on his show. The rain was hammering down and i listened on a transistor radio - small and Japanese - yes one of those, in the guard room supposedly on duty! Naughty me! But no one was coming to check, they were all in their beds. SRV - the master. No Frank Zappa? I know he's not for everyone but going by other stuff you have there, I was half expecting him to be there.

I know your Dad loves The Grateful Dead, and other such Jam bands, has he ventured into the territory of "Widespread Panic" yet? They're a brilliant Jam band with elements of Southern rock, blues-rock, progressive rock, funk, and hard rock thrown in for good measure. My favorite album of their's is "'Til the Medicine Takes", but their first "Space Wrangler" might be a bit more accessible.

Also, I didn't notice any Nick Drake in either of your collections... he's a must have artist in any good taste collection, simply because he was the complete artist... a superb singer, song writer and musician!.
Though usually considered a Folk artist, in my opinion he transcends the genre, and there are many people who would agree with me, because he appeals to a very diverse audience.

Some great recommendations here and some great artists for me to check out. I would say that Steven Wilson/Porcupine tree are one of the best new prog kings but I would disagree with anyone who says there is not great prog music currently. The metal side of prog is another angle which goes completely overlooked by a lot of prop nerds. Here are some classic newer prog bands some that lead into more extreme sounds.
Opeth (There best albums are produced by Steven Wilson) - Heavy progressive death metal first 9 albums last 4 albums more 70's inspired prog rock/metal.
Haken - First 3 albums prog rock last 3 prog metal (The British equivalent to Dream Theater)
    Wobbler - Symphonic prog
    Motorpsycho - Stoner/prog
Riverside/Lunatic soul - Same guy, one is prog metal the other is more prog folk.
The Dear Hunter - Prog folk/indie
There are tons more but I would recommend checking these out!

Hi, I really enjoyed this. I'm in my early 30's and have a similar taste to your old man. Lots of tips here I will take advantage of!
How good are vinyl, it's such a rewarding hobby. It's expensive at times but hey what else are you going to spend your pennies on?
Have to say, I have been guilty of getting trapped in the early 70's with my listening. New music being rubbish is just a myth, there are so many amazing musicians and artists out there you just have to dive deeper now as the mainstream is pure garbage. I started listening to radio 6 in lockdown and it restored my faith in music a bit. (Although definitely not enough prog in it !)
Thanks, I've subscribed and look forward to more posts.
P.s I'm gutted at the lack of Neil Young in this collection. Check out On the Beach ⛱️ 🙂

Great content. Keep posting I’ll be watching! I love all types of music and love many of the bands your Dad likes. Flying Burrito Brothers, the Byrds, New Riders of the purple sage, the Grateful Dead , etc etc etc. You guys ever check out Kansas or Styx? Kansas Point of Know Return and Leftoverture are very good! Mountain's Nantucket Sleigh Ride. Term doesn't refer to a sleigh ride in the snow. In olden times Nantucket was a whaling community on the island of Nantucket off the Southern part of Massachusetts. Large boats would drop teams of row boats with 5-6 people in them. When a whale was harpooned the largest whales would drag the boat around the ocean. A Nantucket sleigh ride

Nantucket Sleighride by Mountain is such a familiar tune to me from my early childhood because it was used as the theme track to Weekend World, LWT's weekly political review programme, at the end of the 70s and the beginning of the 80s, hosted by the great, never bettered Brian Walden. At 7-8 I wasn't lured by politics but that coruscating theme tune etched an indelible impression in my memory.
Given the time period it feels whimsical to discover that it was a prog-rock track and not punk. I could completely have imagined it as a punk track as well because of the paint-stripping feel to the whole melody.

Back in the day i mostly listened to mainstream stuff. There's nothing wrong with some loud jamming rock & roll. But when i needed a break, prog was it. Great collection those were the best days. Best music ever.
