    Also if you’re in Wales you can only go to Charring Cross/Tavistock gender clinics because of welsh funding issues. :)

      Thank you for this, I'm turning 16 soon and live in Wales. I'm gender-fluid more leaning masc than fem, as in I know that if I was born a male I would stay a male and not be gender-fluid. I have no idea where to start especially in Wales and my area being small and all the big places being so far away for me, I'm also very restricted because my mother doesn't agree with testosterone's and the surgy.

    Thank you, I’ve just found your channel. I’ve known I am Male for a few years now. I told my mother and she told me to wait till I’m 21 and that I’m too young to make this choice. I’m 18. However, I didn’t know what to do, so thank you, you’ve given me starting points. Very informative.

      At 18 you're an adult, you have complete control over your decisions & your life, so try not to feel pressured by your Mum, there'll be plenty of time to consider everything while you're waiting to be seen by a clinic & the assessments are to make sure that you're sure, that you're stable mental health wise & that transition is the best thing for you so nothing is rushed in the process whatsoever.
      Glad you found it helpful, hope all goes well. :)

    Trans people of UK -
    Always Don't ever think the diagnosis is a test, the diagnosis is they just want to make sure you are suitable (meaning you won't regret it) and happy that the treatment will ease the gender dysphoria you feel (note there is no wrong or right answer to what causes your gender dysphoria), and you have some form of discomfort between your gender assigned at birth and your gender identity (don't think its mandatory, but is a requirement to help issue the diagnosis) and by having treatments medically you can live happier and more comfortable in your own skin, if they agree you'll be diagnosed 100% and enter the treatment plan of the treatment you choose to feel happier in your own body feeling at ease with your identity. I hope this helps!

    Hey there!
    I come from Northern Ireland, we only have one clinic here in Belfast and due to pressures it's not taking any more patients.
    They're just unable to. This kinda broke my heart, so I am planning to move and live in England and find GIC there.
    I thought about moving to Exeter, as they have GIC there.
    I had longer reading session and found out some people bound to wait 5 years before first appointment there!!!
    I can't wait 5 years, it's unbearable.
    My family is far from supportive as well, I never told them as I often overheard their conversations and they're very homophobic.
    Right now I live with mother, but I don't dare to come out of closet, as life would be torture. Community very homophobic in my small town as well.
    So right now I am in this purgatory state, where I know I am trans, but can't do much about it since I am trapped living with mother and lack finances for electrolysis etc.
    Sorry if I am being an ass here if you already said this in video, can I ask you once you have appointment with private clinic and second one after that, are you clear to take hormones.
    If so, do you just then show evidence to GP and they prescribe them to you?
    Happy for you that you can be yourself now!
    Much love to you, I can't wait to release all the pressure I held for not transitioning for so long.

      Idk how immigration & NHS care works unfortunately but I'm pretty sure that you won't be prioritized as an immigrant or be able to bypass the assessments. Even if you've been assessed, diagnosed & started hormones privately, for the NHS to take over your care you have to go through the same assessments, there's no other way of doing it, it can make the assessments easier, maybe slightly quicker but the NHS still has to do their independent assessments to take over care, but I don't know anyone who's been through this so I can't say 100%

    Yo this was a great vid.. just one small thing I wanted to comment on.
    No organisation or company in the uk can refuse a free deed poll because there is no ‘official certification process’ literally the only thing the law companies do when you pay for a deed poll is make it look ‘fancy’ because there is no way to officially certify it. Just thought I’d let people know cause I’m broke and I’m glad I know this cause it costs a lot to pay for someone else to do it. :) but yeh sort from that it was a great vid mate

    • @JaysJourney
      @JaysJourney  6 лет назад +2

      Yeah I’ve had a lot of people tell me that, I understand that man. The main thing that’s an advantage with it is that some places will still refuse it & even though you can explain it to them, prove it etc. it can cause delays & issues that can be uncomfortable for people, so in my opinion it’s just a lot easier to pay £15, which in the grand scheme of things is nothing to make sure things are straight forward.☺️👍🏼

    Can you change your title on deedpoll from Miss to Mr without medical transition or gender recognition certificate?

    • @JaysJourney
      @JaysJourney  4 года назад +2

      Yeah, generic titles (Mr, Mrs, Miss, Ms) aren't actually legal anyway, a woman can use the title Mr if she really wants to. The only legal titles are ones that you earn (Prof, Dr etc.) the only thing you can't change without a GRC is your name/gender on your birth certificate, everything else can be changed with a doctor's note & a deed poll certificate. :)

      Yeah, everyone's situation is different so the doctors at gender clinics will talk through what you need in your transition & how that'd all work. If you can't / don't want to be on hormones but do want too surgery you can do that ☺️

    • @JaysJourney
      @JaysJourney  6 лет назад

      If you have a diagnosis of gender dysphoria and were assigned, say female at birth, you could get it changed to male, if you were more comfortable with that. But, as of right now, there are no gender neutral or non-binary options, legal gender can only be male or female. Though, I do believe this is being reviewed currently, I read something about the GRA (gender recognition act) being updated to make things easier and adapt more to NB people, so maybe in the not-so-far-future there will be. :)

    I find it completely insane you can be refered to a gender clinic based on self diagnosis. When you feel unwell or something goes wrong with your health you normally go see a doctor you dont self medicated. You might try a few home remedies at first but eventually you would end up seeing a doctor. I don't see why this would be different.

    • @JaysJourney
      @JaysJourney  3 года назад

      You do realise it's the same process as anything else right? When I went to the doctor about thinking I had ADHD they referred me to the ADHD clinic because they specialise in that & could do the proper assesments to diagnose me before even thinking about medical intervention... That's exactly what happened with the gender clinic, waits were pretty similar too

    I just booked my gp appointment any advice on what to take with you

    • @JaysJourney
      @JaysJourney  6 лет назад +2

      You don’t need to take anything with you, my only advice is to let them know that they need to refer you, if they try to tell you that you need to go to therapy first or that they can’t refer you that’s BS. You can be referred to any clinic around the country just by asking, not just local ones and you don’t need to do anything first, GPs half the time don’t know what they’re doing so if they don’t make sure you do & that you tell them you do. If they continue to be shitty, say you’re going to complain, usually kicks them into doing something.
      Hope all goes well.☺️👍🏼

    So to transition you legally have to have a name that isn’t what gender you are for 2 years?

    • @aki_nter
      @aki_nter 7 месяцев назад

      It isn't mandatory but they expect you to change your name to what you choose and feel aligns with your identity. The diagnose is based on how you feel, treatment you want, make sure you won't regret it and if they agree they'll diagnose you to start treatment.

  • @EllaIlic

    Is there any chance you can get hormones under 16?

    • @JaysJourney
      @JaysJourney  6 лет назад +2

      In the UK, no. It is illegal to prescribe hormones to anyone under the age of 16, but if you’re under the Tavistock children’s clinic, they’ll have you on hormone blockers for at least a year or until you turn 16. So that’ll stop the monthly’s (presuming you’re a trans guy) and stop any more of the wrong puberty occurring before you can start hormones.
      Honestly wish I’d of come out sooner cause I’d of killed to have blockers. :)

    • @EllaIlic
      @EllaIlic 6 лет назад

      Thanks! The sad thing with me is that I started puberty at around 7 or 8 and I’m almost 14 now and I’ve finished puberty and I asked the doctor about blockers and they said it wouldn’t make much effect on me seeing as I’ve already developed everything. The waiting time sucks but I guess that’s what’s needed.

    • @JaysJourney
      @JaysJourney  6 лет назад

      They’ll still have you on them, most people at 14-16 are pretty much done with the massive effects of puberty. It’ll still be required for you to be on them for a year.
      Personally I think it’s daft unless the individual wants to be on them if puberty is over, but it’s the way they have to do things.

    • @JaysJourney
      @JaysJourney  3 года назад

      You can't just get any doctor to sign something, only through a gender clinic. It's the exact same process for any trans person, FtM, MtF or Non-binary, they have to assess & diagnose you with dysphoria to start the ball rolling for any medical transition. The NHS recognises NB people & understand that their transition might not be as linear as most binary trans people, they'll talk to you about it in depth before anything's done ☺️👍🏼

    • @aki_nter
      @aki_nter 7 месяцев назад

      A treatment plan will be Taylored to you and you don't have to have all treatment. Clinics as Jay mentioned do accept this. A diagnosis is based on how you feel inside, they want to make sure by transitioning medically that you won't regret it later on as some things are irreversible and have some form of discomfort (don't think its mandatory) between your gender at birth and your gender identity. If the clinicians agree at the clinic that you definitely want the treatment for your medical transition (I have asked people on how it diagnosed and that's it summed up). and you can explain how it will benefit you then you'll be diagnosed, and a treatment plan will be agreed on your needs going forward. Once treatment starts an appointment will be made to discuss top surgery and any questions you ask before they send that off to the surgeon you choose from a list.
      To prepare for clinic appointments is:
      1. Be sure what you want.
      2. Write things down to make it easier to know what to say to help gain that diagnosis.
      3. Write down the treatment you want and explain how it will help - this shows the clinic you have done research into things and know what you want
      4. Watch vlogs on top surgery (gives you an insight on people's experiences) and links to point 3.
      5. Social Transition as much as possible - sometimes it can restricted due to family issues or whatever it is but as much as you can socially transition e.g. calling you of a name of your choosing, dressing up in a way that makes you feel comfortable, wear a binder, come out your school, attend counseling etc. these things can help massively ease the dysphoria even if it's a little and shows the clinic more evidence
      6. Be honest and be yourself - if you tell the truth about how you feel you're more likely to get diagnosed.
      7. On day of having appointments take a day off work to attend as it will be a nerve wracking and stressful day.
      What happens at appointments:
      'Your first appointment is a conversation between yourself and the clinician, who may be either a psychiatrist, psychologist or a nurse. You will normally be asked a few questions to establish a bit of background about you and your gender as well as some discussions about what you are looking for from the NHS. Don’t worry if you do not have an answer for some of the questions, this is not a test, just a chance to chat and discuss your treatment.
      You will at no point be asked to undergo a physical examination. The appointment is simply to discuss your gender in the past, how you identify now and what treatments you may require. '
      'Your second appointment may feel very different to the first. This is where you and the clinician get into the details of what you require from us and how you would like your journey to look like going forwards. Second assessments are conducted by a lead clinician and will include further assessment questions and they will likely go into more detail on some topics. There will also be plenty of opportunity for you to ask questions. At the end of the assessment, next steps will be explained, and some people will receive a diagnosis of Gender Incongruence HA60 (ICD11) and entering the treatment programme will be discussed, some may be invited to further assessments and others may be discharged.'
      But again, I'll say please do note don't ever think the diagnosis is a test, the diagnosis is they just want to make sure you are suitable (meaning they assess to make you won't regret it) and happy that the treatment will ease the gender dysphoria you feel through the treatments you choose (note there is no wrong or right answer to what causes your gender dysphoria) and you can live happier and more comfortable in your own skin!

      Nope,there are different forms of Testosterone, they all have different pros & cons though. There are 2 different kinda of injections (4 weekly & 12 weekly), a gel or patches that you apply every day.
      You'd be expected to be researching these things to know about the options & how T affects you before startoyng.👍🏼

      Honestly mate, I have a phobia of needles (improved to the point that I can tolerate them but if I look I'm unconscious) and even then it's more convenient than something daily. My Dad does mine for me at home every 3 weeks & as long as you warm the vial and have it injected really slow the pain is like a bit of a bruise / ache.

    Since the time when this video was made, there have been Important developments of which any young person under the age of 18 thinking about this subject should be mindful. They're worth mentioning as this video makes reference to the children's gender clinic and several comments below are clearly from very young people.
    The latest figures of the NHS from Nov 2021 indicate that young people who were referred to the Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS) in 2018 were now being seen for their first appointment and that the number of young people on the waiting list stands at over 5,300. (ref. How long is the wait for a first appointment at GIDS?)
    The service is under very high levels of public and professional scrutiny as a function of various legal procedures of the past couple of years and also the Care Quality Commission's report of Jan 2021 which rated the service as "Inadequate".
    The service operates under a very detailed, comprehensive and lengthy "Staged Model of Care".
    Stage 1 - assessment and exploration.
    Stage 2 - a referral may then be made to an endocrinologist for hormone blockers.
    Stage 3 - cross-sex hormones may then be prescribed from age 16 after 12 months on hormone blockers alongside evidence of meaningful social activity (e.g. in education or employment) in the young person's preferred gender role.
    Stage 4 - surgical interventions may then be offered but only to people over 18 years of age. (ref. Puberty and physical intervention: GIDS)
    Given the length of time after referral before an eligible young person might receive a first appointment, the likelihood of that young person reaching the stage of being prescribed with hormone blockers before the age of 16 is extremely low.
    The waiting lists for first appointments following referral for adult gender services can be anything up to four years.
    As an interesting point of comparison, it remains illegal for any young person under 18 to undergo a tattoo procedure, a process with arguably far less significant life changing implications than any invasive gender related interventions.
    Similarly, motor vehicle insurance companies have always levied very high premiums on any customer under the age of 25 based on what are well recognised to be their (sadly, in this context) statistically well-proven limited consequential and potentially life changing decision making abilities compared to older adults.

      That's a lot of information (with no sources sited, which is a shame) but I feel like there was meant to be a point forgotten to be mentioned at the end of this long comment, did you have a point?

      @@JaysJourney YT's deleting my more elaborate attempt at an explanatory comment so I'll have to limit it to saying the references are parenthesised in my original post as easily searchable citation titles, not URLs (which ironically can also cause deletion).

    • @keyboarddancers7751

      Let's see if this works.
      The self evident points of my comments were:
      1. The few young people under the age of 18 contemplating any form of potentially transitional intervention who may be watching this and other similar videos should have a realistic understanding of the likely treatment structures and time lines in Britain.
      2. The law is arguably morally inconsistent with regard to the boundaries it sets around children and potentially life changing elective physical interventions.
      3. Insurance companies have recognised for decades that people under the age of 25 are statistically not as good as people over that age at making decisions which may have life changing outcomes. However on reflection, this last point is perhaps not quite so important given the obvious delays (and expenses) associated with the various treatment pathways (heavily subscribed yet poorly prioritised) associated with gender transformations. In short, these procedures are nowadays taking so long, that the earliest many people are likely to find themselves entering a surgical phase is the mid 20s - unless of course you’re in the fortunate position of having the money to bypass the NHS queue. Insurance companies are still pretty mean to young people though!

    I hope your paying for this transition not come g out the tax payers money when there are more serious illness like cancer that needs the funds more sorry honesty just cosmetics it's annoys me when boob jobs and other types are more priority over cancer

    • @JaysJourney
      @JaysJourney  5 лет назад +8

      Except it's not cosmetics, it's necessary & treating a diagnosed illness which is gender dysphoria, otherwise the NHS wouldn't pay for it. If you want something done that isn't considered necessary then yeah you'll be left to pay for it yourself.
      The cost of transition is tiny compared to a lot of things paid for by the NHS, learn the facts before you comment on things.😉👍🏼
