    Yippie - going forward at last mate - when i had my first appointment at my NHS clinic in Glasgow (all those years ago) I was asked the same types of questions I was in there for about an hour and seen two different doctors - I go back to my GIC in Feb and hoping to get the go ahead of drop surgery if I've dropped enough weight. Good news is though that next year IS your T year and i'm so very happy and excited for you!

    Congrats on having your first appointment. Things will love so much quicker now. I’m from Doncaster too (live in Manchester now though)

    I’ve got my first appointment with a private clinic tomorrow and I’m scared because I feel like my mums going to say “he’s never been boyish he was a girly girl” and all this

    • @JaysJourney
      @JaysJourney  5 лет назад +4

      They don't care about whether or not you were a girly girl as a kid or not, they're just getting an idea of what your life was like leading up to realising you're trans & now. Not everyone was stereotypically girly or boysterous as kids, they know that & assess accordingly, there are no right or wrong answers literally just answer honestly and talk about your life.😊👍🏼

      @@JaysJourney I appreciate you are very sincere about how sure you are about transitioning.
      But, by detailing what the clinic asked you, do you worry you are subtely influencing or suggesting how to 'properly' answer questions so that youngsters watching know what to say in order to fast track medical interventions?
      Sorry, let me be blunt. Is there any danger your experience could be used by viewers as a crib to more easily access therapeutic regimes which could lead to irreversible changes? Shouldn't each person enter their interviews w/ as little outside influence as possible? These assessments should reflect the honest state of the patient. I just worry kids are learning how to respond rather than honestly responding.
      I really mean no disrespect. I just wondered if this was a concern, not only to you, but many others who've discussed their interviews on social media platforms lk YT? Your's just happened to be the one that popped up.
      Thank you. And, again, I mean no ill will or disrespect.

      @@ytehrani3885 No, because as I said, they aren't look for any kind of specific answers, they take everyone's situations on as individuals. All I'm doing to informing people about what to expect so that they're less nervous, a lot of what people are nervous about is if they have the "right answers" as you're asking about & there aren't any. They're thorough in making sure that you seem sure about everything & fit the criteria they need you to.
      There's no way to cheat the system & get access to treatment through what you say, there are care guidelines & procedures that NHS staff have to follow.

    • @ytehrani3885
      @ytehrani3885 4 года назад

      @@JaysJourney That's reassuring to understand. Thank you for responding. Again, I wish you all happiness & that all the young people who look up to you appreciate the honesty of your experience. Take care.

    I'm 14 and ftm, I'm slowly going through my transition.. Alone, when it comes to my family. My family aren't accepting at all. I went to the doctors on my own and they've referred me to CAMHS on Monday I'm ringing to arrange my first appointment, I'm really nervous. Any tips?

    How did you make your voice so deep mate?

    • @JaysJourney
      @JaysJourney  6 лет назад +12

      My voice was -luckily- fairly deep naturally, I used to actually get the piss taken out of me for it so I tried to make it more feminine and now it’s just starting to drop cause I’m 2 months on T so that sick.👌🏼☺️

    When I had my first appointment and since it was over a zoom meeting I got kind of confused. And then they asked me my goals and stuff and I was just like wait what I don’t know if that was just my social anxiety but yeah I was very confused I’m going through transitions I feel like it’s gonna be very different

      Fingers crossed you're seen soon, GICs are doing a lot of video appointments, including your first / assessment appointments so it shouldn't affect things too much 🤞🏼
      I feel you though man, I had top surgery scheduled for 18th March 2020, they called me the day before to cancel & I got it rescheduled finally on 11th November 2020, JUST as well, Kneeshaw's last in theatre before elective/non-emergency surgeries got cancelled again 😬 shits mad

    Was your first appointment with your gp like getting the referral to the clinic, Was that awkward?

    • @JaysJourney
      @JaysJourney  5 лет назад +1

      I was referred by the doctor at the mental health team I was under at the time so it was actually pretty comfortable. It shouldn't be an awkward experience if you just go in & say you need to be referred to *insert gender clinic name here* because you're trans etc. :)

    • @JaysJourney
      @JaysJourney  6 лет назад +2

      Honestly buddy, there’s nothing to be nervous about (easier said than done I know) but literally everything I went through it what they asked. Remember that they’re not testing you, you can’t say anything wrong, you’re literally just answering questions about your life, that’s it, super chill. Then you’re one step closer to what you need. :)

      Thanks for the support! I'm going to the Tavistock clinic in London, dunno if it's much different to what you talked about

    • @JaysJourney
      @JaysJourney  6 лет назад +1

      Nice & yeah it’ll still be very similar, they all follow the same guidelines in terms of assessments and the processes they need to go through, you’re just not able to start T until you’re 16 & if you’re under that they tend to put you on hormone blockers for a year, from what I’ve heard from people who’ve been. :)

    Damn that’s a lot, are u still considering gendercare?

    • @JaysJourney
      @JaysJourney  6 лет назад

      The plan has changed with GenderCare, it probably wouldn’t speed things up much in terms of getting on T & would cost me a lot for the appointments and travel to continue going.
      I’ll be updating on that at some point. :)

    • @exclusiveboi1723
      @exclusiveboi1723 6 лет назад

      But doesn’t Lorimer prescribe after 1st appointmemt

    • @JaysJourney
      @JaysJourney  6 лет назад

      Yes, but the issue is that once it’s prescribed, you have to either pay for appointments to continue having them manage it or have your GP takeover. GPs often refuse to prescribe / administer HRT, even through an NHS clinic & my town is one of the worst for it. My NHS gender clinic can’t administer it unless they’ve prescribed it either, so I’d have to pay £150 & about £180 (from my last check) for me and 1 of my parents to get to London, each appointment. Far too expensive for me to afford & in hindsight, not worth the few months early I’d start T. :|

    • @exclusiveboi1723
      @exclusiveboi1723 6 лет назад +1

      Damn, I’ve got a student loan and earn around £300 a month from part time work so for me it seems like the easy route. Mind you, I emailed gendercare 2 weeks ago and have still heard nothing so the waits aren’t exactly a whole lot different I agree. Best of luck tho
