They didn't mention it in the live action (this isn't a spoiler) but the reason Sanji only fights with his legs is that, as a chef, his hands are the most valuable thing to him for cooking.

Zeff telling sanji to keep his feet dry isn’t because of water, he used to be called red leg zeff “because his boots were always stained with the blood of his enemies” basically telling sanji to be GOOD. I love sanji and zeff.
Mihawk's boat isnt shown in the live action because of scene changes, but its a dingy shaped like a coffin with 1 seat , 1 sail and its mast looks just like his swords hilt & guard, with 2 green flamed torches on the wide ends.
I'm so glad they kept Zeff eating his leg. The anime changed it because it was too dark. Also, if you think Sanji and Zeff were emotional, just wait until the next two episodes
I’m glad that for the zeff-eating-his-own-leg scene, they’re staying true with the manga version. Good lord, that was brutal. And Sanji's backstory hits so hard in this version. The kid actors really did a great job portraying the emotions in the backstories for such a young age. And those scenes of Nami with Zoro and Luffy with Zoro teared me up a little.

I love that you guys made the comparison between Sanji and Zeff's relationship with Yondu and Peter Quill's because that really does sum it up perfectly! I've watched a lot of reactors who didn't seem to quite catch on that for all intents and purposes Zeff is Sanji's dad, they just choose to show their affection by being smartasses and sniping at each other 😆
Its also perfectly fitting their shared background as cooks. Kitchens are gathering places for people with too much love for sarcasm and profanity for the suit and tie world.
@@apetpsdc that’s true. Without big spoilers: 1. Sanji knows who his birth dad is and that he’s alive. 2. Even on their worst days after their biggest fights Sanji would rather call Zeff his father.
Im glad they were able to show exactly how Zeff lost his leg. Taz Skylar really killed it as Sanji. He's awesome! Without spoiling, Sanji's backstory really goes from awful to just horrific. He's been through so much as a kid, now he gets to follow his dreams. Thanks to Luffy 🔥
well most of them won't need child actors again for a long while. The only 2 off the top of my head who will be needed are Luffy and (much later) Sanji. And they'll probably have to just recast the child actors by that point.
The author has explained, sea water doesn’t exactly turn powers off, rather it saps your physical energy till it’s too much to use them. The fishmen and human dynamics do get fleshed out more eventually, but it's gunna be a WHILE. You see that it's not fishman bad or human bad, but more complicated than that.
Ussop is an interesting character because he's just a normal dude in a group of super freaks. He is the liar, the coward, and sharpshooter, but his whole story is about him becoming a competent member of the crew.
Watched the show this weekend and now catching up on all reactions, it's great to see both new and old OP fans appreciating the live action production. :)
Usopp at the start was the regular Joe that got to hang with such monster crew members like Luffy, Zorro and Sanji. He is at points one of the best/ most loved characters in the story. Some of his character development is missed in the adaptation. But just for info he was in charge of maintaining the ship which they kinda established by him working in the shipyard. He is also an inventor that made gadgets for himself and the crew. Unfortunately, we will probably not get to a point where non manga or anime fans will get to see God Usopp.
2:32 Actually, we already do that!! Tilapia skin is used in medicine just like that, usually to treat burnt skin. It was a treatment created here in Brazil! It's pretty common here qnd it's very cool to see that in this.
All of the outfits the crew is shown wearing here are from the Oda's color cover pages. The anime doesn't change their clothes much in this Saga, but the Manga has special cover pages, which is better for LA.
Despite the show obviously being fantastical, one of the most unrealistic aspects for me is how they have so much variety of clean clothes while living on a boat 😅

3-5 seasons to get to the fishman arc? Are you insane? More like 10 seasons. Season 3 is probably gonna be Skypia. Season 4 Water Seven and Season 5 Thriller Bark/Sabaody
@@cooljo5881 adding to that, I don't think they can cover Alabasta completely in Season 2 even if they make suitable changes like how they did in season 1, so maybe even longer than that, I think Season 2 would end at a really important plot twist like the first battle between Crocodile and Luffy. And then Season 3 would cover the next half, and then Season 4 would be Skypiea. Atleast that's what I think.

Funnily enough, Zoro has already had 3 fatal wounds at this point in the Anime. 1 from Buggy, 1 from Unicycle guy, and 1 from Mihawk. His response to being stabbed is to sleep it off. 😅 I assume they reduced the number of times he gets stabbed to make it more realistic.
Aaron mentioned he loved how the outfits fit the characters well, and that's cause they all wore those outfits in artwork the author does for some of the chapter covers of the manga! I really appreciate the attention to detail they did there :)
Your discussion on the fishman parallel is actually very spot on. Although is not explained in its entirety untill way later in the manga, the discussion of diversity (different types of creature), conflict between ethnicity and nations is definitely also a huge part in One Piece as well.
Sanji and zeff’s story gets me every time! Ussop is the sniper and the guy who maintains the boat at the moment. He has quite and interesting journey :)
Nice wrap up for the Sanji introduction story and that emotional moment with Zeff is also as tear jerking as what is coming for the last two episodes for Nami's Seasonal arc. It got me in the show the same as it got me in the anime every time I saw it. The fish people are one of the groups that were done dirty by humans in the anime, but most fish people just don't trust humans and stay from them as much as possible. Arlong is a total A-hole of a character that justifies what he does by what was done to his people. The story of Nami's connection to him is heartbreaking which is why I enjoyed the fight between Arlong and Luffy later. Arlong needed a major butt whipping. Loved the Buggy appearance because he's one of my top villains like characters in the anime and the show. Enjoyed the reaction 👍👍✌out.
There's so much emotion in everything going on, and you feel it all culminate into a single phrase that is so powerful it hits down to the core of the matter "You shared the same dream as me" Makes me tear up every time.
The story Nami reads to Zoro is actually something that becomes very relevant later on in the series. It was a very blatant Easter egg for long time fans.
I like that luffy is challenged this early! This is a new angle! He learns here already that he needs his crewmates. In the manga its more lighthearded small moments that show this. But he does not have to question himself for a long time.
"I hope we see Zeff again, episode 823". Funny thing is the character actually makes an appearance around that time. And in the previous reaction you made a joke about Zoro and Mihawk reuniting in episode 500 and something, and thats also very close lmao.
Keep in mind that Usopp is the most familiar with ships in the crew. Specifically Merry. His role is more oriented around the ship, which was not a feature in these two episodes
i just wanna clarify in case you guys missed it: it’s said in an earlier episode that if you eat a devil fruit, the sea turns it back on you. you will immediately sink and it will weaken you.
Funny how Garp doesn’t want to be promoted for the same reason Luffy wants to be a pirate, freedom to do what they want. I think they’re more similar than Garp wants to admit lol
Ussop is the krillin of one piece... hes often used for comedic relief but his creativity and ingenuity comes in clutch several times throughout the series ... it just takes time for him to find his feet
"This is like Star Lord and Yondu" 4:56 This isn't the first time I see reactors comparing them and i totally agree, their vibes are the same, Yondu/Zeff looks like a bad guy at first for the way he treats Peter/Sanji (which it's tough love) but they actually have a soft spot for their kids and would sacrifice anything for them.
They changed a lot of stuff in the liveaction, and fans (me including) had mixed feelings about it, but watching reactions of newcomers like you guys have really made me appreciate the liveaction for what it is. For instance, Luffy's storyline with him doubting himself never happened (it happens a lot later), and zoro's vow of loyalty was basically what he says in episode 5 after his fight with mihawk, but new dialogues were added in this episode. Luffy is also overpowered at this point in the original manga so that fight and loss with arlong never occurred either. But these are the parts which made this episode better, initially I was doubting why we even needed another adaption when the manga and anime exists but the changes makes it feel not necessarily better but very fresh and fun for me.
I mean, I think his fight with Arlong was believable. He still wasn't really taking any damage because of his power, and Arlong exploited his weakness ending the fight before Luffy even really got serious.
He did in a sense lose to Arlong in the manga though. Arlong threw him in the ocean while he had his feet stuck in rock; he'd have been dead without his crew saving him.
I really enjoyed this adaptation my favorite thing was definitely the added scenes which helped bring out the traits of the crew, Zoro's loyalty was much better handled because of the talk him and Luffy had, Nami seems to care for the crew more, and also Sanji's kindness seems to show more as well.
I'm usually not a fan of live action anime, but I'll admit I'm enjoying this one so far. I also love how they added Zoro pledge to Luffy. It's not exactly like the manga, but it's good in its own right.
Ussop is not as useless as you might think. His eye sight is amazing and when hes in the crow nest it gives the team a huge advantange along with the fast ship. He has less combat exp at this point but certainly grows stronger. Finally hes a normal guy and brings perspective to the crazy dangerous stuff to come. Hes a sniper and is not meant as a front line fighter
Can’t wait for Ep 6! Lovin’ this One Piece journey of yours! I also didn’t watch the anime or manga so it’s delight seeing you surprised like me when I watched the series 🙌
They did gut Syrup village arc quite a bit in the LA, it had a bit of fluff but they did cut out 4 characters and pretty much all of usops useful sharp shooting. Though personality wise he is towned down in a good way most agree.
This is the point where I go into fanboy mode, since part of me can't fully separate what they changed from the original series when it comes to Sanji. At the very least his backstory is perfectly preserved, it's just as harsh and brutal as it was in the manga (the anime changes how Zeff loses his leg, from him eating it to him losing it while being stuck underwater with Sanji). Hell, dare I say it was the first time watching the Netflix show that I actually cried, specifically the part where Zeff confesses why he saved Sanji. Everything else about Sanji's character, up to and including actually going with Luffy, is either glossed over or non-existent. Because they had to cut back on stuff in order to fit in Garp's scenes and stay within 8 episodes, Sanji's main motivation for leaving the Baratie gets overlooked. In the manga/anime, Sanji doesn't fully understand what it means to commit your life to dream; this is why seeing Zoro take the final hit from Mihawk (yeah, he was actually present for that in the manga/anime, not so in the Netflix show) and seeing Luffy repeatedly assert how he's going to be King of the Pirates while standing up to Don Krieg's attacks (who was reduced to little more than a cameo in the Netflix show) were so important, Sanji is seeing what it means to truly go after a dream to the point of putting your life on the line for it. This is also why Zeff had been subtly trying to push Sanji out of the Baratie, because Zeff wants Sanji to follow his dreams as opposed to staying there out of the feeling that he owes Zeff for what he did for Sanji. This all gets removed, and Sanji joining the Straw Hat Crew feels almost like an afterthought, like Sanji gets into an argument with Zeff over not being able to cook what he wants and saying "hey, chore boy gave me a job offer, why don't I join him?" (which by the way, Luffy pays off his debt to Zeff by defeating Don Krieg, who was trying to take over the restaurant, in the manga/anime, but in the Netflix show Luffy just leaves and Zeff's fine with it for whatever reason). They DO keep some of Zeff's attempting to push Sanji out to follow his dreams, though again, because of how condensed this arc is, Zeff has to ditch the subtlety and outright tell Sanji to not waste his time in the Baratie and actually go after his dreams. Sanji and Zeff's final good-bye, while it also managed to get me misty-eyed, also was done much better in the manga/anime, because again, they had more time dedicated to it. I suppose what the Netflix show does is fine for people unfamiliar with the source material, but as someone who is, it's a big step down and easily the worst aspect of the live action adaptation for me. As for Arlong, he actually doesn't show up until the arc after this, and Nami being revealed to be working for him isn't revealed until that arc, but I suppose I don't have much of an issue moving stuff around like this. I will say, though, it's an interesting choice to bring the racism against and past enslavement of the fishmen to the forefront of Arlong's character here. In the original manga/anime, Arlong just gloated about how superior fishmen are to humans, and the history of fishmen and how human society tends to view them wasn't brought up until much, much later in the manga (noticing a trend here, with this show bringing up stuff earlier than it was in the manga/anime?); it also helps justify why there's a fishman working at the Baratie, to give Arlong a reason to rant about this topic. I'm also not sure how I feel about Luffy fighting Arlong here, some people take issue with it, but I guess I'm ultimately fine with it. I DO love that they're using Buggy as a means to track down Luffy, and that Buggy uses his Chop-Chop Fruit powers in a way we don't actually see in the manga or anime (that I know of). I love Buggy, and I'm always glad to see more of him. Also... Yeah, Nami, the person who despises pirates above all else, is part of the Arlong Pirates. DEFINITELY setting up some massive intrigue with this, and the fact that Luffy has such faith in Nami that he refuses to believe it even when Nami himself tells him this is a good show of how Luffy can tell something is not right with this set-up... either that, or he's just really stubborn or in denial. Either way, it's good enough reason to go after Nami and figure out what's going on with her! Other things: that fish skin trick is a legitimate as it turns out (The More You Know!), Mihawk telling Garp that he decided to see where Luffy (and Zoro) will go from here and letting him go is very much in-character for him, as is him telling Garp that he'd basically be doing whatever he wants with or without his Warlord status, Garp is... well, again, I'll save my thoughts on him at the finale, but for now, that one line of him saying "I went too easy on him" when talking about how he let Luffy become a pirate is kind of disturbing, especially knowing what he put Luffy through in the manga/anime. As for poor Usopp, yeah, he's a cowardly wimp, and while that has always been the case in the anime/manga, he doesn't get many moments to shine in the Netflix show. I'll have more to say about Usopp by the season finale.

Fun fact the person Arlong threatened is a random named character from the manga/anime after a fan noticed it stealing food from his daughter's plate. Oda named the character Motzel in the sbs.
In the manga and anime, Usopp did get more shine during the Syrup Village arc. Usopp is a character who will make excuses and show his fear, but when all the chips are down, he will put himself at risk to protect the people he cares about. I wish they showed that more during his arc. They did show it off more in the anime. Overall, they had to cut a ton of content in episodes 3 and 4 because of how they gave more time to Kaya and Koby, so there were some character moments that would have been better if they had a few more episodes. In the anime, that arc took 10 episodes, so you can imagine how much stuff had to get cut.
In the manga Sanji actually has curly eyebrows. While they didn't do it in the show for some reason its still shown in his Jolly Roger on the title card

Zeff telling sanji to keep his feet dry isn’t because of water, he used to be called red leg zeff “because his boots were always stained with the blood of his enemies” basically telling sanji to be GOOD. I love sanji and zeff.
That is so good

Mihawk's boat isnt shown in the live action because of scene changes, but its a dingy shaped like a coffin with 1 seat , 1 sail and its mast looks just like his swords hilt & guard, with 2 green flamed torches on the wide ends.
It was shown in episode 1

I'm so glad they kept Zeff eating his leg. The anime changed it because it was too dark. Also, if you think Sanji and Zeff were emotional, just wait until the next two episodes
How did he lose his leg in the anime if he didn't eat it to survive?
@@alexp601 His leg got caught in a chain attached to an anchor when he pushed Sanji out of the way to save him.
Agreed
Yeah, eating your own limb is counterproductive yada yada yada, it doesn't matter because it hits harder in that version

The author has explained, sea water doesn’t exactly turn powers off, rather it saps your physical energy till it’s too much to use them. When fully immersed in seawater, it reaches a point of near full body paralysis. Obviously this results in death by drowning for any devil fruit user thats in the sea and doesn’t get assistance.

i can't wait for these guys to watch the last two episodes - all the feels, all the fights and their reactions are some of my favourites to this show
Ussop is more vital to the crew then it seems right now just be patient he's one of my favorite characters and he proves it more and more as the one piece Story continues.
The sentiment they have of Usopp justifies Usopp's behavior in Water 7 lol
@sigmadleo8943 true but you gotta admit Merry is his connection to his home and his girl that arc is an all-time low for him but wanting to fight Luffy wanting to quit
Right, Reel Rejects look at him as useless and he just gave a ship and that s exactly how he feels when Luffy is trying to get rid of the ship, he feels useless and it becomes great growth for the character@@Diggz0609
That why is is God.
The fishmen and human dynamics do get fleshed out more eventually, but it's gunna be a WHILE. You see that it's not fishman bad or human bad, but more complicated than that.
As much I would love to watch the live action all they way to the one piece, I don’t think we will make it to the conclusion of that story thread
Never say never, Walking Dead got 11 seasons
this is my favorite episode. The reveal of the bigger bag being treasures all along gets me everytime 🥹
2:32 Actually, we already do that!! Tilapia skin is used in medicine just like that, usually to treat burnt skin. It was a treatment created here in Brazil! It's pretty common here qnd it's very cool to see that in this.
Love these reaction videos. I'm glad non anime fans also enjoy this show.
@@alexp601 well..that was a thing most of the new people watching the trailers pointed out, then post production did Dust all over them. Maybe they do wash their clothes?, as far as I recall, their clothes are hanged to dry off in the intro songs or Intermission slides.

I think One Piece actually tackles race very well, but the "resolution" to the whole Fishman vs. Human thing might take the LA around 3-5 seasons to get to the Fishman arc if it even gets there. But trust that if it does, it will be very worth it
I'd be more than happy if they atleast get to marineford but idk that's quite alot
Assuming they adapt one saga for season Fishman Island would be season 9. Doubt we get that far.
It needs to reach sabaody arc.
After this episode, Taz Skylar as Sanji might be the best casting of the Straw Hat Pirates
Other than mastering kickboxing and Taekwondo for the role, apparently Taz also become such a good cook and LOVE cooking so much that he frequently cooks fresh meal for the backstage crews

Inaki Godoy does a superb job playing Luffy! Love the enthusiasm he potrays!❤
I knew this character for like 10 minutes and I was crying at end when they said their goodbyes.
Funnily enough, Zoro has already had 3 fatal wounds at this point in the Anime. 1 from Buggy, 1 from Unicycle guy, and 1 from Mihawk. His response to being stabbed is to sleep it off. 😅
I assume they reduced the number of times he gets stabbed to make it more realistic.
Cabaji didn't do much to Zoro, Zoro hurt himself more than Cabaji did.
Idk if Luffys name is misspelled on purpose or accident 😂

Sanji and zeff’s story gets me every time!
Ussop is the sniper and the guy who maintains the boat at the moment. He has quite and interesting journey :)
the flashbacks are so good you don't want them to end!
There's so much emotion in everything going on, and you feel it all culminate into a single phrase that is so powerful it hits down to the core of the matter
"You shared the same dream as me"
Makes me tear up every time.
They nailed Young Sanji in this adaptation. Perfect actor.
Christian Convery also played Gus in Sweet Tooth. He's been doing a really good job lately. Young Zoro was great too
The story Nami reads to Zoro is actually something that becomes very relevant later on in the series.
ITS THERE ON EPISODE 825 I CANT BELIEVE IT XDDD he actually got it kinda right
Keep in mind that Usopp is the most familiar with ships in the crew. Specifically Merry. His role is more oriented around the ship, which was not a feature in these two episodes
Yall being hungry really suits the theme of the episode !!! 😅
i just wanna clarify in case you guys missed it: it’s said in an earlier episode that if you eat a devil fruit, the sea turns it back on you. you will immediately sink and it will weaken you.
I love how this show delivers the whimsy and action but also the emotional notes that are very sincere
One thing about Usopp is that they have cut out a lot of his moments due to time constraints. I hope they give him more time if there is a season 2
Funny how Garp doesn’t want to be promoted for the same reason Luffy wants to be a pirate, freedom to do what they want. I think they’re more similar than Garp wants to admit lol
After we see Sanji's backstory, "never waste food" hits really really hard.
A lesson you can and should really apply in real life too
Ussop is the krillin of one piece... hes often used for comedic relief but his creativity and ingenuity comes in clutch several times throughout the series ... it just takes time for him to find his feet
Funnily enough, the voice actor for Krillin (Funimation’s Sonny Strait) does indeed voice Ussop in Funi’s dub of One Piece.
"I'd rather die than have you season my food"
Oh the British.
The next episode made me sob so hard, I was really surprised (as a non manga read or anime watcher) just how emotional this show got
"that cadence...that Joy..."
Caught up OP fans: 👀👀👀
"This is like Star Lord and Yondu" 4:56
This isn't the first time I see reactors comparing them and i totally agree, their vibes are the same, Yondu/Zeff looks like a bad guy at first for the way he treats Peter/Sanji (which it's tough love) but they actually have a soft spot for their kids and would sacrifice anything for them.
Zeff isn’t the best parent. But he’s absolutely trying to be a parent and Sanji has sadly seen the difference.
That speech Sanji gives at the end just reminds me... how much Sanji used to say "crap" at first and then abruptly stopped doing it for no reason.
Every time I hear "Wadda Ichi Monkey" I am laughing my ass off. Names and Luffy bruh, even after 1000 episodes its funny as hell.
Luffy and his smiling eyes are amazing! I would tell him my dreams!
Needless to say, in the anime/manga, nothing makes Sanji beat up a guy more ruthlessly than when he sees them wasting food.
I’m happy you guys are enjoying it, it’s such a great series your making me wanna rewatch lol!!! Loving your reactions ❤
Early in the manga/anime, Usopp's role on the ship is being a sniper and repairs the ship. He improved Nami's baton by placing all sort of devices to help her fight future enemies.

I watched this series with my 2 boys who are 7….we are now tackling the anime.
And now they want to dress as the crew for Halloween. So Netflix has done an amazing job. Never would have watched the anime if the live action didn’t exist
Watching with you guys is fun
