The first part was pretty accurate LOL! I would like to run a drum carder once. I dont want to own one or rent one for a week or whatever. Just a one time thing to see what its like.
Fiber festivals are a great place to get to try out equipment like that! And often they'll have classes if you want an in depth trial. So glad you enjoyed the video!
I started out with a supported spindle, a glass ashtray for a spinning bowl, and some fibre (combed top). The spun fibre got rolled onto empty toilet paper rolls (the cardboard middles). Worked fine. Then I got a few Turkish spindles but mostly used them to wrap the yarn I’d spun on my supported spindle onto in order to create centre pull balls for plying. A few months later I got myself the EEW Nano2 because I absolutely love to spin lace weight yarn and have back issues. Since I bought my first alpaca fleece I’ve added combs to my ‘toys’ and my birthday yielded me a niddy noddy and a ball winder. I don’t really feel the ‘need’ for more equipment but if someone asks me what I’d like for a present I would probably ask for more bobbins, hand cards or a blending board. But fibre is and will always be at the top of my list. 😊
Wow fantastic video - I love your sense of humor with that snippet at the beginning LOL! I'm going to pick up those books ASAP and thank you for explaining the basic tools to get started. I'm hoping to have some basic knowledge before the year is over and get started with a spindle... Although I'm pretty sure I'm going to want a wheel.
Thanks so much and I'm glad you found it useful. ☺ I love my wheel for what it's worth. I do spin on my spindles when I'm out and about (and want to spin instead of knit).
Nice and informative video. I would like to add a note about spinning wheel oil. You really should not use sewing machine oil. It is not thick enough for use on a wheel. Regular 30 weight motor oil is a much better option. And to add my favorite tools are my niddy noddy, hand carders and ball winder.
I think that one is the Shepherd's Woodworking spindle. I don't know the size or weight off the top of my head, but I think it's around 8"? No idea which wood as I picked it based on it being pretty. 😄
What are your favorite tools? Or, which tools do you want to try using?

Hello yes we need the million toys to get started!!
Haha! It feels like that, doesn't it?
Dealgan spindle??!!!!! 😮. Oh my! This one looks like fun! Another great video. You have a wonderful teaching style! ❤
Thank you!! I do like my dealgans. :)

There's so much yummy fiber out there!
I always learn so much from watching your videos.
Thanks so much! I'm glad you like them. ❤
Becoming a "spinner" for me took a twist of fate and a leap of faith. Best chance I ever took! Class of 2013/14 ♥ Schacht Ladybug ♥
That's awesome! I'm so glad you took that leap of faith!
Thank you so much for all the great tips and information! 🐑✨
You're so welcome! I'm glad you're finding it helpful.
You are so creative with your videos! I loved the opening. It’s so good that you teach, provide background and context as well as teach. Thank you!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you are enjoying the channel!

Thanks for the tip about the oil! And I'm a huge fan of my ball winder, too. :)
Where did you get your dealgan, maker, size, wood type, weight?? Please

I'm curious if you'd be willing to share with us what the difference is between batt, roving, and top. Thank youuuu!
While I'm happy to add that to the video queue, I do talk about it a little in my "how to spin consistent yarn" video. 😁
@@LindaOfWindyOaks Oh I will check that one out next thanks so much!
You're very welcome!
