Im a newbie so only one skein of singles-25yds and with tour team have plyed a thick and thin singles & ply!! Its pretty balanced considering. Have not crafted with either yet.
Sounds like you’ve made a great start. And a skein can be a finished object in and of itself. Sometimes they go on tho become other things, other times they just want to be admired!
I'm loving the camerawork in this series, and the editing from you explaining something, to the well-framed, clear closeups of you doing it. So informative!
were you going to do any more of these? I'm just learining after over a decade with my wheel the difference between woolen and worsted, and was disappointed to see you didn't have a semi-woolen video!
Sorry to disappoint you. I’m definitely working on more of the 51 Yarns series but my time for making videos is a bit limited at the moment. The 51 Yarns... book’s definition of semi-woolen is anything other than combed top (eg. a batt, rolags etc.), spun short forward or short backward draw.
Thank you so much for helping me to know that I ve been do simi worsted I do short draw all the way tried other ways to spin but feel more comfortable with with the short draw so thanks you again
Sorry for the delay in replying but you're welcome. The Craftsy class is definitely worth a look for an easy way to transition to things just outside your comfort zone if you ever want to.
I actually got pretty good at spinning from the fold off the tip of my finger with a long draw because I got some combed cotton sliver that I just couldn’t get to spin with a short forward or backward draw. It made a really pretty bouclé.
Although I know the difference between top and roving (and have made both) sometimes prepared wool is labeled as top/roving and that's confusing. I tend to assume it's roving when labeled that way.

Wonderfully clear discussion. Thanks for all your work, as a new spinner, I’m hunting as topics come of interest, and finding so much!
Great information and demo. Glad I found your channel!

I really like the different ways, I've been wondering what would be the difference between the methods. Very useful!
