- In this video I discuss cutting a fretwork pattern by Russ Beard on 1/4" figured walnut using #2/0 spiral blades. I typically prefer flat blades for everything, fretwork included, but this type of pattern works well with spiral blades.
Spiral Blades are Great 👍
My hegner has the same benefit for bottom feeding. The clamp and blade pop in and out readily, Making bottom feeding very rapid and easy. My problem with spirals is getting the blade to seat in the top clamp (hegner quick clamp). I have to twist the blade so that the top and bottom tips are in the same plane. If not the blade pops out as I tighten down. Very frustrating and time consuming.
Great video. Thanks for sharing.
I know what you mean about twisting the blade to get it set right. It usually works out easier after the first few clamps.
Could I contact you privately to ask you question? I do similar work with laser cutters but I think a scroll saw might be more affordable and allow me to work with thicker materials.
Sure, you can find me on Instagram under scrollsawcorner. The main issue you'll probably run into using a scroll saw vs laser is the scroll saw is much slower so I don't know if it will be a good fit if you are making things to sell.
what you use to lubricate your spiral blades and how many blades did you use-break for this project?
I don't use anything specific for blade lubrication but I do change the blades pretty frequently. I can't recall exactly how many I used on this project but I imagine it could have been 5-10.
