This is perfect for me! I've had a bandsaw for years now and made a hundred crap bandsaw boxes.. I've been wanting to practice carving sculptures with my dremel tool and this is the perfect project! You even included a basset! I can make a figure of my baby booooy.. He passed away 2 months ago and this can be therapeutic for me. Thanks!
In the shop we tend to get comfortable to a point I thought I could cheat the inevitable until my hand came too close to the blade while cutting a piece of wood, then ouch ! that hurt. I’ve learned short cuts are not worth losing a finger or a hand around power tools. Thanks for the vid.
These are adorable and will be so useful in learning band saw skills. I’ve learned it’s so much different than the scroll saw. Thank you! I’ve subscribed and look forward to more videos.
Fantastic video, my question is how do you determine where to do the first cuts. I am trying to understand how to create these impressive structures from a block of wood...thanks
Thanks! Well I guess the squirrel and the dog do have top views, since you need to cut the ears off the dog and the waist for the squirrel. For the deer thers not much you gain from cutting it from the top I think. :)
sweet nicely done. The bandsaw is my favorite tool and can do just about anything I need cut. From wood to acrylic and all in between. The only down side if you can call it that is the dam blade changes. uggggggg
I really enjoyed watching this. Your bandsaw skills are awesome. I have a very basic bandsaw with a wide blade at the moment, I'm still learning to use it mainly to cut out a rough shape and the rest I do with carving tools etc.
The templates dont appear to be on your site anymore? I just got a bandsaw for christmas and havent used one in years. Super excited to make my own little doggies like these! - Subscribed in the meantime ;)
Thanks for video, I purchased your templates, problem I'm having is that the template for the deer is larger than a conventional 2x4, the dimensions on the downloads, I believe are in millimeters, and the thickness on the drawing is 48mm, when a conventional 2x4 is only 38mm, could you please let me know if I need to print in a smaller scale? Thanks Again
I started with a different reindeer and then tried to make a fox. First one was horrible but helped me trouble shoot. I've heard start with the simplest side. Then do the more complicated one.
So, i can see that i commented on this video 2 years ago. Finaly last week i tryed to make this. I made the squarle and had not waht the video again.... So taping the sides were not in my mind and hade to frehand all and it wnt terible.... :P Got som left of oak still left so new try this weekend :D
The template does not fit correctly on an American 2x4. I had to shrink down the template to 80% for it to fit. Since you put the measurements in mm, I am assuming you are not in the States. The thickness of the 2x4 here is 1-1/2" and the template requires 1-7/8"
Not to sound like a creep, but where do you live? I have a ton of scrap 2x4 and plan to make a bunch of these, if you live in the US I can probably send you one... Or, if you live near a makerspace or workshop that offers classes, you can try to make your own! It's fun. I plan to make a bunch as practice to make one that looks like my pup who recently passed away. (In my picture) I'm sure I'll be giving away a hundred squirrels and dogs! lol
just bought a 1/8" blade for my saw and cannot wait to get started. Love the deer but all are great, thank you for the instruction

Thanks!
Was it the therapy you needed?
Looks really great. I think with some more sanding and oiling it up, you would get a really beautiful finish on those.
The deer is my favorite. I'm just learning, so your video helped me a lot.

Thank you for such a fantastic presentation. My daughter and I will be putting these templates into action!
These are adorable and will be so useful in learning band saw skills. I’ve learned it’s so much different than the scroll saw. Thank you! I’ve subscribed and look forward to more videos.
No chisels, no dremel tool, just a bandsaw. Amazingly simple and useful for other projects!
Love the deer. It's awesome. Thanks for sharing your video.
Thanks! I would like to have a copy of the patterns. How do I get them?
I remember back in the 70s watching Shopsmith demonstrations where the guy would do the same, I was always amazed.
Çvcçx
Love the Doggy. I am thinking of making one, but what do I need to feed it on? Guessing a sawdust diet.
Great video, just a scary scene watching those cuts on the table saw though...
Was thinking the same

I like how he put on the same music that Mark Rober uses a lot while making the squirrel! :)
You had me thinking it would be a classic Mark Rober Blue Wednesday track... Not familiar with the track playing and I Mark Rober all day erryday =P
Very clever Alex. I bought your animals. Just waiting for them to arrive.
awesome project, im curious to see what happens if you would add a top view to these drawings.
Thanks! Well I guess the squirrel and the dog do have top views, since you need to cut the ears off the dog and the waist for the squirrel. For the deer thers not much you gain from cutting it from the top I think. :)

can it be done with jig saw ?

2x4 is 2inches / 50,8mm) by 4icnhes / 101.6mm, so if your 2x4s measures 38mm thickness it is not really conventional ;)
@@CorporalClegg77 Elden is correct… in Canada, a conventional 2x4 is actually 1 1/2” ( 38.1 mm) x 3 1/2” ( 88.9 mm) !!!
Marv Janzen
Bonjour video très sympa peu tu me dire ou je trouve les animals pattern thank you

Great job, well-done. Is there a rule of which side to start with? and how to create a template for something new? thanks alot.

I got the templates thank you
I would NEVER be able to do this with my cheap little bandsaw. 😢 I’d really like to though. Bummer.
Haha awesome. Love the deer
