  • I recently purchased a Durston X Mid 1, an ultra lite backpacking tent. After watching several reviews of similar products I settled on this one. I must say I am very impressed so far. Light in weight- under 2 pounds, the ease of set up and the amount of space both inside and out are all major assets for me. I love that the inner tent has so much room under the tarp allowing for excellent air circulation keeping it dry. With the fly going up first you can easily keep your inner tent dry. Can't wait to get out and try it again. #backpacking #ultralighttents #Durstontents

    Hi I got a durston xmid1 as well and am loving it! It does go up very quickly. I love the various pitch options and the double vestibule layout. I am a tad bit north of 5’ 10” and it fits me well. It took me two adventures to realize I could open up the inside of the tent with the little hooks on the fly. My kids are looking forward to seeing it in action when I travel to their area to camp with their young families.

    My experience of this tent is the same as Wendy's, well made and easy to put up. Only seen light rain so far but it had no issues. It's an amazingly light tent, feels like it weighs the same as a pair of thick socks!

    I wish you showed more detail how you anchored the tent on that platform because you did a fantastic job.

    • @wendyoutdoors2230
      @wendyoutdoors2230  7 месяцев назад +2

      thank you. There were hooks placed around the outside perimeter of the tent platform. I added cordage to the loops on the tent fly and hooked them on to the hooks. I will do a better job of filming that next time. I have seen people also place sticks between the boards to tie to as well. I also extended a couple of cords off the platform to the ground and used the supplied pegs, however one bent as the ground was hard. Not a perfect solution but the tent stayed up. Really appreciate your comment as that is how I can improve my videos. happy camping!

    Wendy, thank you for the review on this tent! I have been looking for backpacking tent since last year and this review has made my choice for me! Very neat and tidy. I wonder Durston XMid is based on Sierra Designs 'High Route 1 person?' I have these neat little biner/spring/hooks that can be slipped between the slats on the tent platforms. I got them on Amazon. A little extra weight/kit.... yet to try. Thank you!

    I've been pondering this tent for quite some time - my MSR hubba hubba NX is almost 10 yrs old and has been so great - still love it but eventually I'm going to have to replace and pondering the free standing vs trekking pole tent. Have you tried pitching the Durston on rock or hard ground? I've seen one set up on a tent pad before like the one you did but wondering if you've experienced just using big rocks to to tie down if it's impossible to use tent pegs? Thanks Wendy!

    • @wendyoutdoors2230
      @wendyoutdoors2230  5 месяцев назад +1

      That I have not done yet. I have used the tent pad as you saw and the regular ground with pegs but not rocks. . I may try it later on just to see. I would need to use rocks or logs if I camped on sand at the beach too. I have done it with other tents so expect the durston would work too.

    Nice tent I have heard good things about the company.Did you seam seal the tent ?
    Single person tents have come a long way my first thru hike I used a two person tent then msr made the hubba tent and every hiker had one I still have one I use.
    There used to be a guy that made tents for thru hikers he would only sell to people that he thought would complete a hike and was rude but he made the best tents if you could get one.

      @@wendyoutdoors2230 A lot of hikers are using this tent this year so we will see how they last a thru hike is about ten years of use for most people.I would buy this tent probably the one you got sometimes you trade durability for weight.We got stuck in a bad hail storm in Oregon and out of eight tents the only two that got shredded where the eight hundred ultra lite tents.

    If you count the weight of 2 trekking poles, this tent is not light at all, because this is the necessary weight! ! ! For one person, it is too heavy.

      thanks Vivienne- Durston also makes special poles for those who don't use trekking poles. They are very light . I use poles all the time so it's not a problem for me. thanks for commenting.
